The anarchic whispers that filled the room just as a group project was assigned couldn't be farther from Margaret's current state of mind. Not only were group projects hell on earth for her, as she usually found herself doing most the work and sharing the credit, the only person remaining would have been her last choice, if a choice there was.

'Victoria Lena Jones, we meet again I see' she hissed contemptuously at the red-haired girl as she walked towards her. The subject of the parchment they were to turn it was the Gargoyle Strike of 1911, a relatively interesting subject in her eyes, although history in itself was interesting enough to her. The deception of working with the Ravenclaw girl seemed to be eased by the prospect of soon-to-be acquired knowledge. 'We'll combine our work on Thursday, so we can turn it in on Friday. I think that us both sitting at a table to work in vain is a waste of time. I'll take care of the political aspect, you can take care of the consequences of it on the modern world I guess.' she added, a blank look on her face.
In a swift movement, she gathered her belongings in her bag, waiting for the final minutes of class to pass. The students around her didn't seem all too happy with the assignment either, but most of them found a friend to pair up with. In the back of her mind, she wondered what the girl's and hers relationship could have been like if they had gotten off to a right start. Perhaps a friendship was a little far-fetched, but the dialog could have been a lot less spiky.

Tori was always open to new things and new people, but the idea of doing a project with a girl who had thrown her book into the cauldron just didn't seem open to her. When she saw the students go to their group friends, she went to Margaret even though she didn't want to. When she hears what Margaret said, she objects.
"Isn't it more political? That's not a very fair way to divide. I think we should both investigate, otherwise I don't want you to go to the professor later and say Victoria didn't do anything. And I don't want you to sabotage this assignment like you did before. You may not care about getting a bad grade on your homework, but I do. That's why we will stay in the classroom together after class and do this homework."
She said coldly. Tori normally didn't like to act cold, but this girl's behavior was getting on her nerves. But it was a bit contrary to her warm-blooded self. She sat at her desk without saying anything else. She put her belongings in her bag because she thought it was almost time for the class to end.
When the lesson is over, she goes to Margaret. Maybe if things were different, they could have been good friends

The girls had stayed for a bit to better divide the work ahead, but Margaret couldn't help but think that it would all just be better if she handled things. Coming back to the common that night, piles of books surrounded her as her quill scribbled relentlessly to the dim light of the candle. A scroll couldn't possibly be enough, but the girls had settled on a scroll for two. The subject matter was complex and layered, it demanded rigorous analysis, something she knew she could trust herself to do.

Truthfully, she had no idea if Victoria was competent enough or if she lacked the meticulous attention to detail that Margaret deemed necessary, but it was a risk she wasn't prepared to take. They had agreed to share the workload, but as she delved deeper into the topic, she felt the urge to take control, to make things perfect in her eyes. It was't that she doubted the girl's abilities entirely, but her lack of trust in her made it difficult to rely on her for half of the grade. She wanted her name to be associated with excellence.
As her fingers flew across the parchment, the eloquent arguments and nuanced points staining the parchment in ink. She was aware that her decision to do most of the work would not sit well with Victoria, but her strive for perfection was too strong to ignore. Plus, she couldn't care less about annoying the girl.
A few hours passed and most of the students had gone up to the dormitories, leaving her alone with her thoughts, occasionally interrupted by the opening of the door or the crackling of the fire. Her mind raced with ideas, each one more compelling than the last.
Margaret paused for a moment. Was it fair to Victoria? No. But was fairness really on the table between the two, not really. This would definitely stain their relationship even deeper, making it impossible to imagine it going any differently, but the ends justified the means. She would handle the girl's disappointment later, for now, she was engrossed in the pursuit of academic brilliance.
The next morning, they met up in front of the empty classroom, Margaret handing the red-haired girl the neatly presented scroll. She knew that leaving Victoria so very little space to write was low, but the satisfaction she'd get from seeing the girl's reaction had to be worth something.
'There you go, you can turn it in tomorrow. Don't forget to add you name' she said, a slight smirk on her face.

After the girls stayed there a little longer and made a more 'fair' division of labor, they both left. From there, Tori went to the library, got the necessary books, and then went to the Common Room.
History of Magic seemed boring to him, but he didn't want to get another bad grade. She started to do her part meticulously, thinking that maybe this would make things a little better between her and Margaret.
After much careful research and a tiring night, her mouse Vick became a very good friend by staying with her while she did this homework, and she had finally finished her part.
The next day, he showed up in front of the History of Magic class, thinking Margaret would like it. When the girl gave her the homework he had written, she started to examine it. frowned.
"Wait a minute, didn't we decide yesterday where we should write? You almost didn't even leave me a place to write. There is very little space. This is supposed to be a group assignment. It's ridiculous that only you should do it. Do you know what group work means?"
She spoke in a confused and trying to understand manner.

The half-smile that had begun to trace Margaret's face soon disappeared when the girl's voice was stained in confusion. No, this wasn't supposed to happen. Her corrupted joy in seeing the face in front of her contort in anger had not come to life. The girl's confusion seemed to be contagious, spreading to her mind as she tried to understand the girl's sudden composure. In her shoes, she would have been furious, bitter. But there she was, agile words like daggers, a cold fire, no explosion. This wasn't like her, this wasn't the girl she had met in potion's class.

'I do know what a group assignment is, thanks. There's actually some space left, look closer, I'm sure you can manage to make your handwriting small enough to actually fit some of your ideas on there. You could at least be grateful I made most of the work for you, I don't think a "thank you" would have burnt your mouth off' she declared, her voice trembling in anger.
Back home, the other students would be content, if not thrilled when most of the work was offered on a silver platter. But this girl was confused? Margaret had done the work, and very well, she was sure of that. Yes, credit would mostly go to her. But at least it was a job well done. There was a hint of embarrassment in this situation, being caught red-handed doing something very wrong, and having to deny it. She hadn't put much thought into how the girl might react, but the anger mixed with the shame made her cheeks burn and her lip tremble.
'You know what, fine.' she exclaimed as she took the scroll off of the table before tearing it in two in front of the girl's eyes. 'You do it then, if you're just better than this. Do half of it, and leave the rest to me. You better wish we get a good grade, or -' she cut her sentence short, fearing to go too far. 'Have it done by tomorrow, the deadline is getting close.'

Tori listened with her mouth open to what the girl said. She couldn't believe that he actually thought she could be friends with this girl.
"I can't believe I actually thought I could be friends with you, and believe me, if you despise someone who works late into the night and doesn't care about what they do, that person won't thank you or be grateful."
Anger rose inside Tori as Margaret screamed and tore the scroll she had made. She was seriously starting to think that anger was contagious. She said angrily before throwing his own parchment on the ground. She thought her hair was a darker red.
"Stop thinking about it in your own mind. But you know what, okay, I'll do it, of course, if she doesn't think she's superior and doesn't care about what I do and doesn't try to sabotage me by doing it his way, I can easily do half of it."
She threw her parchment on the ground and left in anger. She would do in one day what she had been working on for days.
When she entered the Common Room, she opened the books that were still on the table. She opened it so loudly that Vick, who was lying on the table, woke up. Ignoring this, she took the blank parchment and started writing again.
Tori investigated further. She was tired of writing about the same subject twice, but now it was a matter of pride. When he came back to the History of Magic class, she threw the scroll to Margaret.20 April

The scroll rolled towards her as Victoria stood before her. Evidently, this had backfired but at least the assignment would be done in time.
'Of course I've done my part, I intend of getting an O. You would be in the way of this, not me.' she added condescendingly.
Slowly, she unrolled the piece of paper, her eyes reading over the words written from the girl's quill. There was no denying it was good, the both of them stood their chance into getting a decent grade.
'It's... fine. I'll add my part now.' she said, staring blankly at the girl.
She couldn't quite determine the source of her childish actions or why she seemed to hate the girl. After all, they had both acted foolishly in potion's class. But she was in too deep now, apologizing would be acting too vulnerable. Was Victoria serious when she said she expected them to be friends? Although Margaret's face didn't change at all, it saddened her to have someone roaming the halls with a bad idea of her, an idea that simply didn't match who she truly was.
She cleared her throat, her trembling voice betraying her. 'Why would I ever want to be friends with you?'

"At least we both have something in common, and believe me, when you research an assignment twice and complete another assignment in just one day, you have memorized that subject. I advise you not to succumb to your pride and self-conceit."
She said these calmly. Her attempt to be friends with this girl was starting to fade away, but she and Margaret had a fight for a very ridiculous reason and they both acted like children. She didn't want to make an enemy.
"That would be nice."
Based on what Margaret had said, she remembered talking about how they could be friends yesterday. While she thought about staying silent about this, her mouth betrayed her.
"Look, we both acted childish and we are like that for a stupid reason. So I thought we could try a second chance. I don't want to make enemies and maybe we can both at least respect each other."
Her words came out without thinking, as always. She spoke the thoughts on her mind. She had this trait since she was little. She extended his hand to Margaret. Margaret had only thrown her book into the cauldron, after all, and the book was something that could be taken after all.
