Binky and Banx had been inseparable from the very beginning- even before they could open their little beady eyes. They were together as kits back when Martyr and her family found them abandoned outside of the Magical Menagerie nearly three years ago, after they had fallen off of another ferret that had been purchased by a different family (or so Marty had come to believe, as it was the only plausible explanation as to why two very young ferrets were outside of the shop unsupervised). They were together when she brought them home- all pink, and shivering from the cold (she always thought they looked more like weird little fingers then, than ferrets, although their fur had eventually grown in with time) - and hand-fed them, nursing them to health with the tiniest of bottles.

They slept in the same nest, played with the same toys, ate from the same dishes and drank together from the same bowl of water. Wherever one went, the other could be found never far behind (often slinking after the first in a frenzied chase). There was never one without the other; they were a nail and a magnet- two peas in a fuzzy, wriggling, peapod. That was how it started and that was how it would be.

For a good three years at least.

On September 1st, 2024, they would experience a disturbance in their status quo. Times were changing and they were changing fast. Fast for a pair of ferrets anyway- their tiny walnut-sized heads could only comprehend so much (which was never a lot to begin with). What was once normal to them, was soon to become a rarity once Martyr was ushered to taker her first unenthusiastic step onto the Hogwarts express. Three became two (and two, one) as the future Gryffindor loaded one ferret into a carrier and lugged her along with her belongings onto the awaiting train.

Binky had been the lucky ferret (or maybe unlucky depending on the perspective) selected to become Martyr's familiar throughout her schooling at Hogwarts. Had she the option, the girl would have taken both pets, as it was only fair to both of the critters. But alas, Banx was a biter and Binky... was also a biter but to a far smaller degree. She left less room for accidents and potential lawsuits which neither of Martyr's parents wanted to entertain the idea of.

But, despite the unanticipated separation from her twin, Binky was happy. She had an adventure to go on, and when she came back home she'd have Banx to tell all about it... If she ever got out of this damn carrier.
