Ruby was sitting in the Library. This was one of the places that she visited pretty much every day – whether to get more books and return those that she had read the previous day, to get some peace and quiet, to observe people, to write, or various other activities. A stack of books lay perfectly positioned on the table in front of the girl, who sat straight-backed and was clearly attentive. A notebook was open beside the stack so that she could efficiently take notes in order to have the information stored somewhere other than in her memory when she was finished with the books. She didn't really need it, as she was pretty good at remembering things, but she liked to have it available for her whenever she wanted to flip through and remind herself of what she had recently learned.

One of the books was open to a page close to the end, and her eyes darted across the words on the paper. Words. They were things that could make or break someone, things that could heal or hurt, things that could create magic both metaphorically and of the literal kind, things that could inform, things that could persuade… there really wasn't a limit to the power they had and all the happiness or destruction that they could bring. Ruby read mainly to entertain herself and to gain knowledge. She was on a quest, of sorts – one that entailed learning all that she could without straining or overworking herself. Surprisingly, she was quite successful so far.

Before long, she had finished the book and her notes on it, so she carefully closed it and set it aside. She took a moment to look at her surroundings once more and make sure that nothing had changed and that no one else had arrived. She was quite observant and analytical by nature, and she enjoyed people-watching to learn more about them and just for the sake of it, especially so that she had more information on the way people worked. Psychology was something that was very interesting to her. It was relevant to everyday life and anything that she learned in that field could be immediately applied. Currently, her gaze swept over the nearby students. She looked back to her books while she processed it and analyzed what she had just seen. She didn't need to be caught "staring", after all.

No one in particular had caught her eye yet, which was a shame. She was looking for something/someone interesting… anything. Perhaps she was searching for a possible friend or ally. People who could later become true friends of hers later on seemed to be few and far between, though, which was possibly unfortunate for her. It didn't really bother her… it never had. She was independent and didn't particularly need anyone else. She didn't share the deep sense of companionship with a select few that many seemed to have. Nevertheless, three of her cousins were very close to her, close enough to act as her older brothers and best friends. In addition to that, she had been surprised when she had recently started to find several people at this school that she rather enjoyed the company of – people that were more than just tolerable. Maybe she could find some more before the end of the year, but that would be determined later.

The young Slytherin desired some action or something different. Someone or something that stood out and was not merely boring and ordinary. She did not mind reading at all, and was quite content to continue that, but a small part of her wished that someone else would bring the adventure to her, rather than having to be the one who was different herself. If she found someone interesting, then she could certainly bring them a change, too. A change for a change? Something other than normalcy on the behalf of one party in exchange for the other party acting differently to the norm as well?
