A Quiet Spot To Journal PV Roxanne Durand Closed

@Roxanne Durand
The library was just-so-quietly bustling with students from all four Houses, which came as no surprise to Harmony. Every week, there was always some essay to write for History of Magic, or a new potion to concoct, or a new spell to learn. That was something that Harmony truly loved about Hogwarts, as she's the kind of person that always needs something to do.

However, Harmony didn't go to the library to study. In fact, she'd already finished her homework for the afternoon. No, her usual place to journal, the Hogwarts greenhouses, were being occupied by multiple groups of second-years working on a project. So, Harmony assumed that the library, with its quiet and inviting atmosphere, would be the next best place to go.

After spending a few minutes searching for a table, she found an empty one outfitted with two chairs. Sitting in the one closest to the wall, Harmony placed her brown, worn leather book-bag onto the wooden table, carefully removing her journal, a white, little thing of a hundred pages or so, Newt Scamander's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (a fantastic drawing reference, in Harmony's opinion) and her trusty quill, placing them all directly in front of her.

Opening her journal, Harmony began writing about whatever came to her mind, her dark curls falling down her shoulders and onto the table, almost covering everything she wrote, somewhat like a black veil determined to keep her words a secret from the library's other inhabitants.

Roxanne had spent most of her day today hiding out from one class to the other, reading her books and making notes and trying not to get noticed by anyone so she could having to talk to them. The girl was muggle born and had known for roughly a year that magic not only existed but she herself was a witch. Despite the amount of time she had known she still knew nothing. she had no access to any information until she came to Hogwarts but she was still hopelessly lost as she struggled to absorb as much information as she possibly could so she wouldn't look like a complete idiot and make the rest of her house look bad. Quidditch, Muggles, Wizarding wars, charms, hexes, ministries, histories of peoples places and things, ghosts, talking paintings and newspapers. there was so much insane things there were days she had to hide away just to have little freak outs without anyone seeing just how out of place she really was.

She closes her book on muggle studies, it was interesting how little the wizards really understood about her own culture, but she needed to be learning about them not seeing what they know about her...or rather her people. She sighs and gets to her feet and makes her way back to the Library once more. Once inside she offers the same meek wave to the librarian she always offered before returning her book. What should she read next? there were so many options, and she knew so little she didn't even really know all she didn't know. She glanced over and saw a girl writing in a journal, her dark curly hair was a stark contrast to the platinum blond straight hair Roxanne had.

Roxanne short of shuffles over to the girl, hands gripping the edges of her skirt. her blue eye and hazel eye were locked on the other girl for a few moments as she tried desperately to work up the courage to actually speak. "Excuse me..." she practically whispered. Roxanne closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. "I'm sorry...I...I don't know what i'm doing. could...would you mind. Helping me find the right books? I know I'm intruding...im sorry..." her voice cracked some at the end of her little speech and she probably looked like a slight breeze could knock her over as she stood in that moment

Almost in a bit of a trance while writing in her journal, a small, soft, feminine voice brought Harmony back to the real world.

"Excuse me..."

Looking up, Harmony almost immediately noticed a shock of bright, almost-white hair. She had never seen hair so light before! Observing further, however, she was even more surprised by the owner of the bright hair's eyes. They're...two different colors, Harmony thought to herself, truly amazed at the sight of one eye as blue as the sky and the other as hazel as the tree the color was named after. Wicked!

"I'm sorry...I...I don't know what I'm doing. Could...would you mind...helping me find the right books? I know I'm intruding...I'm sorry..."

The poor girl looked nervous, Harmony noticed. Perhaps she wasn't one to approach strangers? Extroverted by nature, it was hard for Harmony to relate to that. She'd always loved meeting new people! However, now wasn't the time to think about the difference between extroverts and introverts; this girl needed help, and Harmony was more than willing to provide whatever assistance necessary...and, maybe, befriend the shy girl.

Sitting up straight and closing her journal, Harmony flashed a bright, warm smile toward the person standing in front of her. "Oh, sure!" She said, her thick Scottish accent obvious to anyone with any bit of hearing, "What books are ye lookin' for?"

The shy girl's face turned a beet red, her voice shaking as she spoke. "I...I don't know. My family is muddl-...no that's not the word. I'm sorry I'm new to this...Muggle. My family was...is Muggle. I'm new to all this...magic."

Her parents are Muggles? Fascinating! Now, admittedly, Harmony had very little experience with Muggles. She'd grown up surrounded by magic, so the concept of living in a home without it was very strange to her, almost foreign.

However, Harmony needed to ignore that for the time being. She'd offered this girl her help, and she was going to give it! But, since this girl seemed to know very little about magic, Harmony knew she'd have to find something that would be a good introduction to it...something so comprehensive and easy to read that even a giant could understand it. She furrowed her brow, thinking of what could possibly be the best thing to recommend to the nervous girl.

"Hmm, well...ah! A've got just the thing. Follow me!" Harmony practically leaped out of her seat, motioning for the girl with the interesting eyes to follow her. Leaving her journal and other items at the table (thank goodness her sister charmed them before she left for Hogwarts, just so that anyone that tried to steal them would be in for a nasty surprise), Harmony led the girl across the library, chatting along the way. "Well, you know we've got A History of Magic, that's always a good resource, but..." she stopped in front of a shelf, grabbing a large, red book, "Muggles and Magic by, um...George Beahm, was it? Aye, it's him. I read this when I was a wee lass. It's a great introduction to magic. You'd like it!" Harmony grinned, holding the book toward the bright-haired girl for her to take it.

The dark haired girl was so energetic and understanding. she didn't act off put or on guard around her even though Roxanne had to be giving of serious anti social vibes. she was sure she looked like a crazy person if she was being honest. How casual the other girl was gave Roxanne a level of ease, as if things really weren't a big deal so she don't have to stress out. Though she stayed restrained and on edge a weak smile did tug at the corner of her mouth as she slowly shuffled after Harmony as she led her through the library.

"Muggles and Magic by, um...George Beahm, was it? Aye, it's him. I read this when I was a wee lass. It's a great introduction to magic. You'd like it!"

The other girl said in her excited tone and held the book out to her. He went to reach for it, but fear gripped her throat as she looked at Harmony's hands. she had no way of knowing how clean they were or when the last time she washed her hands was. She didn't want to be rude, especially with as nice and helpful the girl was being but she couldn't help in. Then she rememebed the silk cloth in her pocket. She kept her want wrapped in it, but figured this would be a better situation for it currently. She reaches into his pocket and pulls it free and uses that to grab the book from the girl to look it over.

"You are too nice...I mean...not like that's bad but...I'm sorry. what I mean is, why are you so helpful? aren't muggles...like...outsiders?"

Harmony watched as the girl removed a small, white silk cloth from her pocket before covering her hand with it, then using the covered hand to grab the book. Hmm...that's not a bad idea, actually, Harmony thought, considering just how dusty some of Hogwarts' books were...no surprise there, since some were probably hundreds, if not thousands of years old. Using a bit of fabric to grab hold of a book would surely keep your hands dust-free, right?

"You are too nice...I mean...not like that's bad but...I'm sorry. what I mean is, why are you so helpful? aren't muggles...like...outsiders?"

Although very flattered, the bright-haired girl's comment surprised Harmony. Outsiders? Why would she think that? Granted, Harmony'd had very few interactions with muggles over the years, but, as far as she was aware, they looked just like wizards, sounded just like wizards...they just didn't have magic to help them, instead needing to rely on very interesting inventions in lieu of it, like airplanes instead of brooms, and pills instead of potions. Besides, the girl was a witch, regardless of her background, so why would Harmony see her as anything other than what she was?

Then, Harmony remembered some of the stories her father had told her. How, during his time at Hogwarts, there were some people that really didn't like people with muggle parents. People that used their power to arrest those witches and wizards, and wanted them dead. That was years ago, and even though that wasn't as much of an issue now as it was then (as far as Harmony was aware, at least), she'd assumed that there was a chance that the girl had heard those stories and thought that they were still relevant...

Flashing a soft smile, Harmony reassured the girl, "No, I don't think so. I heard stories about everything that happened in the 90's...but, most witches and wizards don't care where yer from, so long as yer a good person with a good heart! Aye, that's what's most important..." Maybe it was because she was a Hufflepuff, but Harmony knew that the vast majority of those in her house didn't care where you were from...they'd still help you no matter what. Either way, hopefully the girl could now see that she had absolutely nothing to worry about. "Oh, by the way...what's yer name? I'm Harmony"
