Why is it Blue?
Rowan peered curiously into her cauldron, dropping the mistletoe berries in one at a time, grinning at the plunk each one made. She moved to look at her book, her forearm making contact with the cauldron as she did so. She jumped back and cursed under her breath, clutching her arm. "Ow." But her pain was soon forgotten as she watched her concoction gradually develop into a vibrant orange.
"I've done it!" Rowan was giddy with excitement. She began to tidy up, noting the time, scooping her ingredients into her arms and walking slowly towards the shelf, careful not to drop anything. She knows she could have taken two trips over to the shelf, but what fun is that? Rowan became lost in her head as she reshelved the ingredients, proud of herself for brewing the forgetfulness potion.
Rowan turned around to fetch an ingredient she had accidentally shoved into her schoolbag when she came face-to-face with another student. "Oh, sorry, didn't see you there," Rowan said, trying to move past her. The two began mirroring each other, each trying to get around the other, sharing awkward glances in between. Eventually, Rowan gave up and stuck out her hand. "I'm Rowan Sallow." She recognized the girl-- a Hufflepuff, also a first year. Rowan glanced at the ingredients in the girl's hands. "Whatchya working on?"

It was time for the potions class, and Giselle headed slowly to the classroom. Something told her that the following lesson was going to be fun, as it always was. Giselle had only attended potions class one time before, and in her opinion, it was terrific. Therefore, she sped to the classroom, eager to see what potions would she learn that day.
As she entered the potions classroom, she chose a seat in the middle of the class, and sat down. As she began to brew a potion, she noticed that something didn’t seem right. It was when she looked inside one of the textbooks had she thought so. When she should have been brewing an antidote to common and uncommon poisons, she found out that the color of her potion was blue, when it should have been green. Giselle, who never thought that the two potions that she should have been brewing would be blue, peered closer to the textbook. However, it said that the color was green, as it should be.
It couldn’t be…how? Giselle thought. The potion looked mysterious to her.
Just then, a girl, as she thought would be a first year, came up to her.
I’m Rowan Sallow, she seemed to say. Then she heard the same voice again. Whatcha working on?
Hmmmm… well, Rowan does seem pretty nice, and I’ll tell her my troubles.
I know that I’m supposed to be working on an antidote to common and uncommon poisons, but I can’t seem to make it.
She laughed, pointing at her strange-looking potion. Hmm… she thought, frowning.
Actually, I think that this would be a great chance to experience something mysterious, she said. Her eyes glinted mischievously, as it always did, and always will. That was the look that she always wore when she was just about to break rules.
Well, what could it be? Oh, and by the way, I’m Giselle. Giselle Lam. Sorry haven’t told ya earlier. She laughed yet again.

Why is it Blue?
“Antidotes to common and uncommon poisons? That’s not what those should look like, not even close.” Her tone wasn’t rude, it was rather very matter-of-fact; Rowan said what she thought, and didn’t change the words from when they were in her mind to when they came out of her mouth. This did get her in trouble sometimes, whether that was with her peers or adults, but the mannerism was natural to her, and she couldn’t change it. “That one”- Rowan pointed to the cauldron on the left which she assumed was supposed to be the antidote to common poisons- “is meant to be teal, closer to green than blue, and that one-“ she pointed to the other potion- “should be simply green.” Rowan paused, pulling her hand back to brush a lock of hair behind her ear. This particular strand had been quite annoying that day, deciding to fall in front of Rowan’s face every other minute no matter how many times she pushed it back. “Definitely not blue.” The potions’ color resembled that of a clear summer sky. The simile rang a bell deep in Rowan’s mind, but she couldn’t quite place a finger on where it was coming from. “I know a potion of that color,” she said with a frown, fidgeting with her cloak in between her fingers. “But i can’t remember which one.” Rowan unconciously reached one of her hands up and tapped her head a few times, struggling to dig through the archives of all that she’s read on Potions. Rowan opened her mouth, then closed it again, thinking that she has spoken too much. The two sat in silence for many moments, watching the slow-bubbling potions rest within their cauldrons. They were very similar shades of blue, if not the same one. Rowan suddenly straightened her posture and met Giselle’s eyes with a small smile and a nod. This was, indeed, a chance to discover something mysterious, and if anyone asked any questions about it, the two could remark that they were just confused and made a mistake somewhere along the lines. Were the two draughts headed towards becoming an upper-year potion? The idea sent a thrill through Rowan, and the young girl clumsily grabbed her potions book from within her book bag and began flipping through the pages. “Pleasure to meet you, Giselle,” Rowan added without looking up, nearly forgetting her manners.

Why is it Blue?
Pleasure to meet you too, Rowan. She smiled, offering a hand.
Once again, she stared at her potion. She didn’t feel like reading something at the moment, for her eyes were quite tired.
Dunno what to add… maybe some gillyweed will do.
It was the only material she had at her trunk, it had been odd that she decided to spend her start of term pocket money on gillyweed. Being a troublemaker, there was no doubt that she wanted to use it for swimming int he Great Lake, a wondrous moment it would be.
Quickly, not wanting the professor to notice that she got the potion completely wrong, Giselle took a gillyweed from her jar and tipped it into the cauldron.
Hope this works, she said to Rowan. Normally Giselle knew a thing or two about potions, but this time, as she messed it up…
Seriously, she thought, thinking what in the world was wrong with her that morning.
The potion began to bubble, and when Giselle thought that it had at last worked, the potion started to explode. Well, sort of. It quickly turned a mouldy shade of mud, and it looked horrible. But there was something that Giselle thought, and it was that Rowan was exceedingly great at potions. If not, how else would she have found out that her potion was incorrect? She then thought that she might as well ask Rowan for advice.
Can you help me with this?

Rowan shook Giselle's hand quickly, hoping her own wasn't sweaty. She barely had time to react as Giselle tipped the jar of gillyweed over her cauldron, and the leaves of the plant fell and vanished beneath the bubbling blue liquid. "Gillyweed?", Rowan asked, surprised, immediately recognizing the plant. "I've never heard of that used in potions before. Well, besides a gillyweed potion, that is, which is very unusual, nothing like we'd be learning." She laughed a little bit as the potion exploded into a muddy color. "And it's definitely not that color." Rowan stood, studying the potion and thinking hard, for another minute or so. "Yes, I'll help you," the young vipress agreed, proud to be recognized for her superior potion-making skills. Rowan walked the few steps to the ingredients shelves and rumaged through them until her hand landed on a familiar shaped bottle. "Aha." She pulled it out of the shelves, revealing a counter-ingredient. "Before you added the... gillyweed- for whatever reason- the potion's shade of blue was well on the way to that of a Cure for Boils potion!" She grinned widely, proud of herself for identifying such. "I hope that this counter-ingredient works its wonders." Rowan poured a few droplets of the liquid into the mixture, which was slugglishly swirling around. Almost instantly, the muddy brown color which made Giselle's cauldron an eyesore faded away into that beautiful shade of blue it was before-- slightly more washed out, however. Rowan lifted her chin and bottled the counter-ingredient once again, pleased with her resourcefulness. "Now, if I remember correctly..." She continued, putting the bottle back on the shelf and reaching for her own book of potions a table or two over. "We need to crush the snake fangs and put... four measures, perhaps?" She checked the book, and she was indeed right. "Wow, I've really got it today," Rowan remarked with a joking tone, surprised with herself.

- Sorry for the late response!
I'm not sure of the exact counter-ingredient for gillyweed, so I generalized it!

[quote] Wow, you’re really good at this. And… cute for books? Seems interesting. she remarked again, gazing at her muddy potion. She had to admit that she wasn’t good at this stuff. As she tried to fix her portion, adding bits and bits of random portion ingredients, she sighed. It wasn’t that she wanted to ask help for Rowan again in the same day, but it seemed like there wasn’t an option. Hesitantly, she opened her mouth and started to speak.
Uhm… how do I make it less muddy?
Lost on her thoughts, she absent-mindedly put a few potato peelings into the cauldron, giving it a particularly nasty colour. But she didn’t really care. There in the spot, she dumped some green stuff in it (she didn’t reconize them) and smirked jokingly. She wasn’t all that surprised when the potion turned into an ugly black colour and was bubbling up swiftly. However sudden it was, Giselle remembered one thing - this was school. She might even get caught in detention for that.
Nahhhrrrr, it won’t.
Wiping that thought of her head, Giselle focused on the potion which bubbled and frothed before her. Laughing, she realised that she wasn’t really taking things seriously. Not that it matters for a troublemaker, though, she remarked with a joking tone.
Just as she was about to add some blue stuff on the potion to make it look more like the cure for boils option, as she always had a dislike for rules and guidelines. Grinning, she added some mysterious blue mixture on the option, making the option look really strange. But Giselle didn’t really seem to notice the fact about it though, as she immediately glanced at the cauldron before her which looked as though it was just about to explode. For some reason it other, she did think that it was pretty hilarious.

Rowan turned back to her own cauldron, where she had successfully brewed a forgetfulness potion. She was very proud of herself, having come such a long way in potions since the beginning of the year, when the young muggleborn witch had no idea that such concoctions existed. Rowan was glad that she was able to help Giselle, but she wasn't sure that the other girl's potion would be successful as well. Out of the corner of her eye, Rowan saw Giselle absentmindedly adding random ingredients into her cauldron. It hurt Rowan to watch the potion in front of the Hufflepuff froth and swirl into a horridly disgusting color (and smell). It took all of the self-control Rowan had to not run over there, push Giselle out of the way, and start attempting to fix the potion: which is why she was quite relieved when she heard the other young witch speak. "Uhm, how do I make it less muddy?" Before Giselle had even finished her sentence, Rowan had appeared at her side, staring down into the muddy mixture, her nose wrinkled in disgust from the smell. "Oh querido, Oh dear" Rowan uttered in Spanish."Honestly, at this point, I'm not sure any counter-ingredient can salvage this." Once again, speaking before thinking. Rowan hoped that Giselle wouldn't ponder too much on her blatant, possibly rude honesty. This is why I don't have any friends, Rowan thought with a small sigh, frustrated with herself. Whilst she was lost in thought, the other witch was adding a strange blue mixture to her potion. "Wait- no!" But it was too late. With no warning, the cauldron exploded, and the potion went everywhere, generously spattering Rowan and Giselle. "Ow, ow, ow!" Rowan yelled with tears in her eyes as the boiling liquid hit her.
