Dear My Loving Family

A few days later, two letters, along with a small package, found their way to hogwarts. Giselle was extremely excited to read them. Taking the lot back to the common room through her hurrying footsteps, Giselle opened the envelope to her first letter. It was from her mother and father. Giselle read:

Dearest,

It’s fine here at home. Hope you a good term in hogwarts!

Me and your father were indeed in badger bungalow, love. We really enjoyed our time there, and the dorm was fantastic, we loved the silk beds!

Hope you, Brookline and Audrey have a great time there! Don’t get yourself in detention, though. We sure don’t want our darling to get that right?

PS. We can arrange a meeting in diagonal alley at Christmas with Audrey’s parents, ask her if she can!

Mum

Underneath the letter, there was another piece of parchment, this time written by dad.

Darling,

I missed you soooo much! Hope you get back home soon. Your mother father wants you and Evanna back more than ever. It’s your father that’s crying Now my darling, don’t listen to what was written with a slash, it’s some useless stuff, trust me. You know, you should not break a rule every here and there with them, you feel better when ya know ya doing something ya shan’t while having a trusting friend with ya. I highly recommend sneaking out at night, I always do that. (Your mother father is getting insane here without you! We miss you! We will put a banner to show out love

Dungbombs, exploding bonbons, homing snowballs and Everbashing boomerangs are there in the package with ya, darling girl

Giselle smiled. It looked pretty funny to see that her father and mother were arguing with the quill, trying to write her father’s owl to her. Ripping another envelope, which was from her sister, Giselle read:

Hiya! Don’t worry, I’m saving the hoaxes for midnight pranking. You’re so lucky to get Hogsmeade visits at hogwarts! There’s none of these in Beauxbatons! But I think Beauxbatons is very pretty with so many decorations, like hogwarts! To say the truth, either is fine:)

Got many friends here too! They all seem to like midnight pranking!

Ripping the wrapper of the package, a ghastly smell filled the room. It was the dungbombs. Therefore, Giselle quickly put them, along with other hoaxes, away after examining them, looking fascinated.

It had been a while since Giselle wrote to her family. Therefore, as after she met Tori, on October 3rd, Giselle decided to tell her parents about that incident. Walking up to the owlery, Giselle took a piece of parchment, sat on a bench and wrote:

Mama and Papa,

I had great fun at hogwarts. I met a new friend, Tori, at Hogsmeade yesterday! I found out that she was a troublemaker, like me! So we sneaked out at night, buying tons of jokes and hoaxes from Zonko’s Joke Shop, and managed to prank the professors with them. It was great fun!

We started at the top of the tower, going in the Caretaker’s office, then into the Astronomy professors office, and then we went to the divination office, through the trapdoor! After that, we went to the transfiguration professor’s office, and finally through the charms professor’s office! Bad news, though. We got caught from throwing Ever-Bashing boomerangs in the fireplace, it generated a lot of noise!

We ended up receiving detention, which took place earlier today, issued by the charms professor the groundskeeper, who lives in the charms office as well. We had too clear the quidditch stadium of weeds, all of them! Me and Tori! Though I personally thought that it was worth the fun!

She, who was also feeling tired after the detention, took another piece of parchment, this time for Evanna:

Evanna,

Made a new friend yesterday. She was called Tori and was very nice! Also, I went to Hogsmeade and met her in Zonko’s! We then sneaked out at night, it was extremely fun! Though the bad news is that we got detention today, had to free the quidditch stadium from weeds! But I thought that it was still great fun!

PS. Ask mum and dad for more details, I’m getting tired so I can’t write more.

There she gave the letters to a nearby owl, who cooed happily. Pleased with herself, Giselle waved to the owl, who soared beneath the clouds, and out of sight, still holding the two letters. There she walked out of the owlery, hopeful for a good night’s sleep.

Oh no. As a fluttering owl came by and dropped her letter on her lap, she felt as though fear had overcame her. A blood red envelope was put on top of her lap, which Giselle recognised at once as a howler. Her parents had probably sent it because she forgot the tips her parents gave her to avoid detention. You’ll have to open it anyway, she told herself firmly. With shaking hands, and ripped open the package.

Giselle Alexandra Lam, what did you get detention for? Didn’t I gave you suggestions on how to avoid detention? Huh? Now, I am absolutely not scolding you for that, everyone makes mistakes sometimes, but I am telling you to not to be so forgetful. However, I am - you mean we’re! Fine. We’re not criticising you for breaking school rules, we actually approve of it, but JUST BE CAREFUL next time, ok darling?

As the howler howled, Giselle noticed that the voice level grew quieter, and boy she was pleased. She was definitely not wanting to get her ears blocked by the deafening noise of the dreaded howler. Towards the end, Giselle just nodded.

Sighing, Giselle watched as the letter turned itself into ash and disappeared. Now to think of it, she should have been smarter. She should’ve known what to do. Feeling a little ashamed, she bit her lip, but her eyes lit up when she saw her sister’s letter.

Aww… it’s fine. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, I feel bad for you. Good thing, as you mentioned, it wasn’t too bad. Hope you don’t get caught next time!
