A Hufflepuff cloak, her bag, and a green dress with long sleeves and blue leggings. Her hair is unbrushed and down and she has tiny blue earrings.

Minnie sat in class, holding back tears. She had woken up looking at the picture of her family and friends, all waving at her and smiling. She had immediately burst into tears. She had been feeling homesick for awhile now, but today was even more strong than usual. She missed Perry, and having a best friend. That realization made her feel even more alone than normal. So she sat in class, her face in a frown and looking at her desk. Transfiguration class wasn't a class she enjoyed anyways, but today was even worse. All she could do was frown and try to stop the tears from flowing.

When class finished, Minnie dashed out the door, running to the bathroom. She locked herself in a stall and started to cry. The tears that she had been holding back started to flow out harder and harder. Her breath came out with sobs that hurt her throat, and she felt sadness envelop her. She needed her best friend. She needed a best friend. I wish Perry was here. I wish my family was here. And just when she was reaching the climax of her tears, a quiet knock came on her stall. Someone was outside.

It was ordinary day for Linda and as soon as class finished she found herself headed to the bathroom. There was no special reason for her to go there now and neither she needed to use it. However, something was making her go in that direction.

She could pass by it now, but this was a moment she noticed a younger girl running to it. While it could be explained by different reasons, it caught Linda's attention and she went straight to the bathroom.

Coming inside, she thought she could hear sobs as if someone was crying. And this was a reason for Linda to knock at the door. Whoever that was inside there, she definitely needed some help. Hey, are you alright there? Do you want a hug? I can be here for you if you need.

She spoke in the kindest and supporting way ever possible. Whatever was causing those sobs, it seemed to hurt the girl more and Linda wished nothing more at that moment, than to somehow help the girl feel better.

She waited a bit to see if there would be any response. If the door would open, she would hug the girl and give her time till she would be ready to speak. If the door would stay closed, she would stand close to it, letting the girl feel that there was someone ready to listen. Ready to be there for her.

Minnie with a large effort, stopped her tears for the moment. A girl was outside, not being mean or rude or anything like that. She was actually asking if she needed a hug. Knowing how babyish that was, she was about to say no. But...a hug did sound really good right now. And Minnie was beyond embarrassment at this point. So she opened the stall door a little. Not much, just enough to show that she would take the hug, and the comforting voice that went with it.

"I'd like a hug, thank you." She said quietly. Then she looked at the girl who was kind enough to hug her when she could she she was sad. The girl had a kind face, and looked rather pretty as well. She was wearing a white dress and some nice clothes, and she looked generally much better than Minnie at the moment. The girl also looked older than herself, somehow, even if not by much. She just had that look about her, and Minnie was quite sure she wasn't in any of her classes.

"You're being incredibly kind, I...just thank you again." It was true that she hadn't found many friends that she could really talk to at Hogwarts, or many friends at all. It wasn't really her style. And that was why all the sadness inside of her couldn't get out by talking and just got bigger and bigger until...this happened. Pondering her life choices a little, Minnie kept taking calming breaths and trying to get rid of the ache inside of her. But perhaps this girl could help her. She could at least let her try.

Linda looked at the girl when the door between them opened and came closer to hug. She hoped her eyes could show that she was there to support, to listen, not to judge.

We all need it sometimes. Don't worry, I am here for you for as long as you need it. Linda smiled warmly and spoke in a gentle understanding voice. As her personal preference was, she knew she'd desperately need someone to be there for her when she was crying. So, she assumed this girl might also feel a little bit better if there would be someone there for her. Linda didn't want to ask if the girl had someone here in Hogwarts who could now be close to her. Li knew she could be that person at this moment. Later maybe, the girl could say what made her cry.

My name is Linda Ramirez. You can call me Li or any other nickname beside my name if you want. What's your name? She stopped hugging, so she could see the girl's face while talking. However, Linda stayed close and put her hand in a way, so the younger girl could hold it if she wanted to. What's your hobby?

"H-hi Linda. I'm M-Minnie Duke. I guess my hobby is....drawing? Or perhaps it's magic? We are in a school for it after all." Minnie hiccuped. "Thank you for being so kind." Willing the stream of tears to stop, she let go of the hug and looked at Linda. "This is really nice of you. What year are you in? I'm a first year if you couldn't tell." She let out a small laugh at that.

Wow...she's really nice. I mean...she could have just ignored me but she's being really nice. Encouraged by Linda's kindness Minnie stood up and wiped her tears off, feeling better by the second.

"I'm sorry you have to see me like this. I don't cry usually, I really don't. I've just been feeling really homesick and missing my family. I hope this doesn't make you think too bad of me." She blushed a little at admiring why she was crying. I'm sure she's gotten homesick. We all have. Just not as publicly as me. Wiping off more tears, Minnie looked at Linda, waiting for the girl to answer.

She looked at the stall, realizing how pristine it was compared to the broken one she had cried in at the beginning of the year. Perhaps she would make a friend here too in this bathroom. At least, if all goes well, she could have a mentor. But hopefully this would end with happiness and friendship and no crying and homesickness.

Linda smiled and looked at Minnie. Drawing? I like it too. Magic? I guess it's fascinating, but I'm sorry, I can't really tell as I got used to be around it. Though I should agree, it's amazing to learn spells and brew potions on lessons.

I'm second year. Linda replied. As Minnie admitted the reason of her tears, Li smiled warmly with understanding in her eyes. This happens sometimes. Especially first year. You don't need to apologize for the way you feel or look, I've had this feeling before. I still do sometimes. Especially in busy days when she doesn't have time to talk with her friends.

Try to spend more time with friends and hobby while not preparing for lessons. It should help you to distract and feel happy. At least it helps me and I found nice hobbies for myself. Linda smiled enthusiastically. Now finally her hobbies were more organized than it used to be. Her bestie was making time fly fast and they always seemed to have something to talk about.

It'll get better after some time. What do you like to draw? And what do you use for painting? Linda asked curiously. She had more than one sketchbook and they were for certain painting material. She drew animals, places, Hogwarts. She just started to draw people not long ago and it seemed to be not bad too.

Minnie wiped some of the tears and snot off her nose, and looked at Linda. "Um...well I just paint brushes for painting, I like the thinner brushes though. I don't use watercolor because it spreads too far....uh....I like to use pencils for drawing...just a normal number two one is fine. I do use other things like charcoal sometimes."

The moment of sadness was lessening, and instead, Minnie felt the hope of a new friend come in. Perhaps all would be alright. "Do you want to get out of the stall? It's probably getting a bit cramped." She let out a weak grin.

As she carefully stepped out of the stall, she felt the sadness inside of her growing fainter and fainter. She should probably go to her next class, but her face still shone with tears and she didn't feel like getting embarrassed on top of everything.

"Thank you...And I think it will get better." Her parents would still be accessible by owl, and she would come see them over break. Almost unconsciously, she touched the satchel at her waist, rubbing her hands on the smooth leather. It had a way of calming her down slightly, and although Linda was doing an amazing job, more calm couldn't hurt. Minnie itched to take out her sketchbook, or a blank canvas, and paint her new friend. "I have some art supplies if you want to draw together later."

Linda listened carefully and nodded. It can spread quite wide sometimes, but you know, in some cases it adds its own beauty to the painting. Maybe you could try. As she silently stepped out of the stall, she felt more relieved. Maybe she should have done it earlier? But it didn't matter now.

It's actually a great idea. I'd absolutely love it, so let's do it. She smiled, thinking how nice it could be. Linda wasn't sure she ever tried it a lot of times, perhaps once or twice only. So this could be a great opportunity to spend time nicely with potentially new friend.

She thought about her next lesson and knew that it was time to go if she didn't want to be late. Glancing at Minnie once more, Linda stopped for a second. It's time for the next class so we should probably go now. If you don't want others to see that you were crying, use some water to wash your face and breath. It shouldn't take much time for it to be less obvious and then you could go to the next lesson if you feel better now. What she didn't add and would never say, that if Minnie still didn't feel good enough and didn't want others to see that she was crying, maybe it would be good for her to skip next lesson, perhaps still letting Professor know about the reason though.

"I think I'm good now. Thanks for the tip. We can totally art together later...maybe I can owl you? But yeah. We should definitely get going. I do not want to make you late." Minnie turned on the sink and splashed her face with water. Then she sat there and breathed slowly for a few minutes. It worked a little, and she knew that her next class was soon to start. The professor would not take excuses for her being late.

So she slipped out of the broken down bathroom, took another deep breath, and continued to her potions class. She thought about all that her new friend, Linda, had said. Everyone feels sad. Focus on your hobbies and friends. You don't need to apologize. Linda had calmed her down, and was so kind while doing it.

"You can do this." She whispered to herself. She sat down in the potions class, prepared to take on life's challenges in full force. A few kids looked at her face and snickered, but it didn't matter, because Minnie didn't care about those stupid kids anymore. Linda was kind enough to fix that. I wonder if I'll ever see her again. Something inside of her told her that she would. This isn't the end. This is only the beginning.

Linda nodded in agreement. You can send me an owl or find me during eating whenever you would like to do it. She turned away, giving Minnie the moment to calm down and after the girl went, Linda was glad she didn't ignore it.

It was quite natural for a lot of students to feel this way, especially in the beginning. It all usually was becoming better later, though still some could feel homesick sometimes. As some more time went, she went out and started to walk to the next lesson.

Linda wondered if or when they will meet again and hoped that Minnie can find happiness even in this place. She remembered how excited she was in the beginning, although sometimes feeling missing her family. Did it feel different for those who were from non-magical world? She guessed it was. For her at least magic wasn't something entirely new. She grew up surrounded by it.

As Linda continued walking, she thought about drawing together with Minnie. It would be nice if they did it, but Li wasn't sure whether it will happen or not. After all Hogwarts is a big place and friends were constantly changing. Except for a small group of friends that didn't change yet and Linda hoped they wouldn't.
