"I don't think you're a nerd...why would you be? Well...If you want I can tell you more..." Leona noticed that the 'Kay?' Felix said it sounded like he was confused. Well I think he's not a nerd... She looks around noticing how quiet it was besides the owls making noises. It was very quiet and it kind of bothered her. I really wish there were more people here. Leona is usually freaked out by it being too cold. When it's night she always had to have her radio playing rain noises or river. Now Leona knows she can't have any of that because Muggle technology doesn't work in Hogwarts.

Alright...it's really quiet here but Felix is here...i'm not alone. Leona looks at an owl nearby. The owl was an white color. Super cute. Leona looks at the feather she had grabbed. Is this feather from that owl? She is having the urge to go up to the owl and pet it. Leona shakes herself out of that thought and turns back to Felix. Well he's being a bit nicer now...that's good. Leona had noticed how Felix before seemed annoyed around her. Well I did hit him with a book that one day...

"Sure? I guess?" Felix tilts his head, something he often does in situations like this. He's not quite sure what she wants to tell him about, but that's fine by him. It was nice to not be called a nerd, but Leona hadn't exactly been in classes with him much, or had that many casual chats either.
There's a pretty nice white owl that Leona seems to be looking at. Wonder why. Like, it's a nice owl, but why is she looking at that one in particular? It looks like it matches the feather that she also picked up. Maybe that's why. Or maybe she wants to get one like that as a pet?

He likes owls, but having one would be pretty impractical in his house. He can't have a cat because of his grandad's allergies, he doesn't really want a toad, fish or frog, his grandma doesn't like rodents, so there's not that many options for his pet. Maybe he could get a lizard? He likes lizards.

Okay.
That's too many 'maybe's right now.
It's annoying as heck. Nothing he can do to change that though.
He starts to drift off into his thoughts, not intentionally, but it happens.

"Ok...well first my grandpa started to ignore me because I had my confusing...accidental magic thing. All of my family doesn't really accept the idea of magic...so they don't really accept me...Also my parents ignore me because apparently I 'eat too much.' I don't eat too much...Oops...sorry." Leona stops to catch her breath and also to check if Felix is getting mad. He doesn't seem mad...yet. She looks at the owl for a bit longer and then turns away. I would like an owl...but that color...no...I would rather get another owl. Leona looks at Felix for a bit.

He's probably noticed the feather now. Leona thinks as she looks at the paper. Should I stop this conversation now? Or should I continue it and write another letter later. She walks a bit over to where she had written the other letters. Leona grabs some paper and a quill nearby.

Dear Grandma,
I am writing you a separate letter because you are the only one that believed me. I'm sorry Grandma but I want to get away from my other family for a bit. I hope to see you very soon. I love you so much.

Love Leona

As Leona writes she notices that this letter was a lot shorter than the others were. I really do want to see you Grandma.

Felix shrugs slightly. "Huh. Okay, so they just don't like magic?"

Leona has stopped her talking to breath. She briefly writes another letter. It seems pretty short, but that's not any of his business, so he doesn't comment. It's not like his letter was very lengthy either, and he only sent one, while Leona sent several.
He wonders a bit why Leona's family would be that against magic. It was a great thing, and it would let their family know about the wizarding world, which would usually not be allowed of Muggle families.
Surely anyone would be glad to know that magic is real, and out in the world? Like, science is good, but it follows so many rules. Magic cuts out at least a few of those rules, and includes new theories and formulas to learn, beyond those of normal, non-magic science. You can literally fly, without a engine or propeller or anything. And dragons are real. That's pretty awesome too. Felix likes science, but magic is even cooler.

Leona seems to be checking his mood, sending quick glances every once in a while. He ignores it, deciding that it doesn't matter. It's not like he doesn't do mood checks on people either.
He can't figure out anything to say, so he just waits and hopes that she will say something.

Leona looks around and doesn't want to answer Felix's question. I don't think I should say anything else... She looks at Felix for a little longer this time. She notices that it looks like Felix is really thinking. Well he must be wondering about my family. Leona turns away from Felix to skim over her letter again. She looks at her hand at where a cut had been. Well I'm very glad that it went away...and that Eugenia fixed my picture. At the beginning of the year Leona's picture had broken. Luckily for her she had the best dorm mate ever, Eugenia, who had used a spell to fix her picture.

"Well...yes...that is what my family thinks. They really don't like magic...except for my grandma..." Leona answers Felix's question finally. I really miss her... She looks at Felix again and notices something falling on his head. Is that a feather? Has Felix noticed it? Leona looks at the feather for a bit. The feather is a brown color that looks like a feather Leona has seen before. Oh...I know that feather...that's a Barred Owl feather...cool. Leona has always wanted to see a Barred Owl, ever since she heard her grandma talking about one.

A feather tickles Felix's nose and he snaps out of his thoughts, sneezing hard.
"Well, that's fine now, cause you're at Hogwarts now, where magic is like, the thing. And if they dislike magic that much, they'll let you stay here for the break. Probably." he says, deciding that he should probably drop this subject, as it seems uncomfortable for Leona, but he can't think of anything else to ask. She hasn't asked much about his family, so he should maybe stop asking about hers.

He looks down at the marker on his thumb, wondering when it would come off. Soon probably, though he didn't really care about it. Felix had other things to think about. Like whether he'd be allowed to stay for the break, or what pet he might get. And how much begging and moping would be needed to convince his dad to let him get that pet. A pet lizard sounds the best to him. Mostly. As much as he would like an owl or a cat, a lizard is the most practical and good. he is not getting a fish. Fish are cool, but not his kind of pet. Definitely not. No matter how good they apparently are. Felix is drifting into his thoughts again.

"Yeah...I guess. They should let me stay here for the winter break. So...what is your family like?" Leona looks at Felix. She's trying to hold in her laughter from Felix's sneeze. Well...I shouldn't laugh. She looks around and then lets out a little giggle. Leona looks to see if Felix noticed her giggle. He doesn't look like he saw. Ok...just don't laugh anymore. She watches the owls near her for a few minutes. That one there is an...barred owl...so cute.

Leona walks over to the owl sitting nearby. She looks at it and then turns to see if Felix was looking. Is he looking...please tell me he's not. Leona turns back to the owl and starts to be submerged in her thoughts. Well...I really want Felix to be my friend but he doesn't seem that he wants the same. He probably has friends that he wants to keep...I'll leave him alone until he's ready. Which may never happen. Leona starts to walk towards the way out. "Well you don't need to answer me...it's fine. Bye...I guess." She stops at the stairs to see if Felix was ok with her leaving.

Well...I do want to go. Leona starts to walk down the stairs.

"They're...fine. Uh- you're leaving?" he isn't sure whether to be disappointed or relieved. Why do thoughts and emotions always have to be so confusing, honestly. He's got enough confusing things on his plate already, he doesn't need more.

Leona seems to be going. Well, not 'seems to'. She is leaving. He's kind of sad about that. Even though it hadn't been a very interesting convo, and he didn't particularly want to talk about his family, it had been something.

She didn't seem that bad after all. Maybe. Who knows? Not him, that's for sure.
Felix had learned a long time ago that his first impressions were often incorrect, or at least, flawed.

He wasn't exactly a people person, but he had figured out that he needed to give people a bit more time than he might originally think he should. He didn't often re-assess his idea of people, even after giving them more time, because he had a hard time dropping his first thoughts about them, especially if they were rude or did something that bothered him a lot.

Of course, he still tried to make decent first impressions, knowing that some people really did care about first impressions, and would definitely not re-assess. He usually failed at making the impression good.

"Yes...I'm gonna go now. I want to get back before my dorm mate kills me...joking" Leona answers as she starts to look down the stairs. "Why...do you want me to...stay? Well if you do I really am sorry." She says hoping that it didn't sound rude. Please, I don't want him to hate me. Leona starts to slowly walk down the stairs wondering if Felix wanted her to stay. Why would he want me to stay...He doesn't seem to like me at all.

Leona gets half way down the stairs when she stops to see if Felix was mad. I can't see him...It might be alright for me to go back now. She keeps walking when she remembers she 'had to write one more letter'. She turns around and starts to walk back up the stairs. Leona actually didn't need to write another letter, she just wanted to stay with Felix. She gets back to the top of the stairs and looks at Felix. Should I go back down...or not.

"Sorry...I just remembered I had to write...one more letter..." Leona says with a tone of happiness in her voice. Well I hope he will continue to talk to me. She looks around wanting to know how Felix feels about this.

"Sure. I might write another one too. Not about the break, just to say hi. Just have to figure out how to write about school without mentioning magic or whatever. Also kind of hard to contact my friends back home. Can't really send it through regular post, for a lot of reasons, and telling my family to pass it on is difficult. They can pass on to other family members though. Also, they would be confused why I'm sending them a letter rather than texting or something." Felix shrugs, and pulls a pen out from where it was tucked behind his ear.
He never properly sent something by post, Muggle or otherwise. Where he lived, you put it in the mailbox, addressed to somewhere else, and the mailwoman would post it for you. Thus, he never learned how to post stuff from the post office. he doesn't have a phone, and wifi doesn't really work at Hogwarts apparently, so texting was way of the list.

He uses the back of a textbook to write on, hesitating and thinking over what to write for a moment, before starting.

Dear Uncle Chris,
Hi! How are you doing? I haven't seen you in forever. Tell Auntie Lisa and Stevie that I said hello, it's just easier to address a letter to one person, and obviously Stevie can't read.
School's good. The classwork's okay, and the people are also kinda okay. I've met a ton of new people already, and have minimized the amount of crashing into walls that I've been doing.
I guess that's good as well.
Missing home a little, but definitely not missing my old school. This is still school, but it's a bit better. Different people, and different teachers. Some real odd people, but odd in a good way. Also lots of random pets. Snakes and cats and frogs and these weird puffy things that I dunno what they're called. Kind of makes it seem like some sort of witch school, right? Completely whacky!

See ya,
Felix

He scribbled a few random drawings in the paper's margin, then carried on with sending it.
