Long way from home
Kyle walks out to the great lake with his hands resting in the pockets of his robes. he looks down at his red lined robes, the golden lion on his chest, the red and gold tie. His button up is half untucked with the top couple buttons undone and his tie loose instead of properly tightened and he decided against the vest.
He gets to the shore of the great lake and picks up a rock and tosses it up and down in his hand a few times before he chucks it as far as he can into the water. He didnt have anything in particular he wanted to do way out here, but it got him out of the common room and away from all the other Gryffindors. Its not that he had anything in particular against them, in fact they were more accepting of him than he was of them. But, if anything...that made it worse.
He was used to being around purebloods and listening to the rhetoric his father would spout. And while he wasn't a hateful man, it was clear he held their kind to a higher standard than half bloods or muggle born. and Kyle just assumed everyone did. Afterall, even the weakest spell should be impressive from a muggle born wizard, right? And yet here is lineage didn't matter, nobody cared. and the overly friendly and accepting nature of the house just wore on him. he needed time away from all the positivity.
he picks up another rock and chucks it. "Who gets annoyed people are nice you jerk" he mumbles to himself

Long way from home
Camille loved being a part of the Slytherin House. At first, she'd thought the Sorting Hat had made a mistake somehow. Her father was a Slytherin, her mother was a Hufflepuff, and her older sister Sierra was a Ravenclaw. Her younger sister Emma was yet to be Sorted, as she was coming to Hogwarts next year. However, all four had assured her that she had the personality of a sweet Hufflepuff. When the Hat screamed, "SLYTHERIN!" for all of Hogwarts to hear, Camille was definitely confused. Her feet stood her up and lead her to the Slytherin table while doubting thoughts entered and left her mind at their will. I'm a pureblood, is that why the Hat put me into Slytherin? What if I don't belong? Was my fate decided before I even sat down? I'm going to embarrass myself awfully. But thoughts like these quickly left when she sat down at the Slytherin table and began to make small conversation with a few of her fellow first years. Now, she was beginning to make new friends, know her way around the castle more, and learn new spells she hadn't known about before.
But being a Slytherin did have its downsides. The fact that the Common Room was in the basement nearly drove the young girl mad the first couple of weeks. No windows, which meant no sunlight, and it was a bit chilly on any given day. Fortunately, she'd discovered that a few places in Hogwarts where she could go when she needed a break from her Common Room. Such places included the Library, the Quidditch Pitch, and a uniquely large tree by the edge of the Great Lakes.
In fact, the same tree was the one she now resided underneath, cradled by its roots as she looked over the shimmering surface of the lake. Camille had decided earlier that she wanted read for a bit out of her History of Magic textbook. She was falling just a bit behind in that class and wanted to get some last minute reading done before the week's end. After a few silent moments of reading, Camille closed her eyes and inhaled. She paused a brief moment before opening her eyes and exhaling peacefully. She subconsciously reached back and touched her hair, feeling the braid underneath her fingers.
There was even a slight breeze drifting through the air. Perfect flying weather, she thought happily. Whenever Professor Jensen announced the Quidditch tryouts, Camille would be one of the first to sign up. She loved the feeling flying gave her. The rush of adrenaline she couldn't find anywhere in the Muggle world. Thoughts of Quidditch filled her mind, and the book in her lap lay forgotten. Once again, the young Slytherin's mind was wandering. That was the type of girl Camille was: a bit floaty and often thinking. Sometimes she could be a bit absentminded, but she made up for in loyalty and kindness.
She sighed quietly and looked back down at the book like she just remembered it was there, because she did just remember it was there. Her fingers had just turned the page when a sudden "plunk" interrupted her. She looked up quickly and curiously. Her eyes darted around, wondering where the sound had come from. After a few more moments, another "plunk." There! she thought, location the source of the noise. A Gryffindor boy, a few yards away, was throwing rocks into the lake. She noticed his lips move, but she was too far away to hear what he was saying. He probably hasn't noticed me yet, she noted. She decided against speaking for now; she just watched him curiously with her wide brown eyes.

He wasn't exactly sure how long he stood on the shore, but enough time passed that he used all the little rocks that lay around him. he wipes his hands off on his pants and and lets out a deep breath and just slips his hands back into his pockets and just looks out into the still water of the lake. He would stand there for a few minutes, just taking solace in the silence and the peace of the area. And while it was different than the smell of rain, there was something calming about he smell of the lake. He would probably have to come back here often, it was pretty nice.
He shrugs to himself and turns to go leave and his eyes cross a tree and the girl sitting under it. wait. And the girl...sitting under the tree. Really close by. Looking at him.
Oh man how long had she been there? did she hear him talk to himself? And to top it all off, she was a slytherin. The house he thought he belonged in. The house that was the Rival house to his own. Wonderful.
He clears his throat and takes a few steps forward towards her, his hand coming up and scratching the back of his head. "Uh. Hey...don't uh...don't pay any mind to me. Just letting off steam...you know?" he shrugs and puts his hands back into his pockets

Camille blinked shyly when he turned around and saw her. Yes, Gryffindor. Definitely. She could now see his robes and tie were maroon and gold, and his midnight black robes had the crest of a roaring golden lion. He's a Gryffindor, and I'm a Slytherin... She hoped he wouldn't think she was like most of the Slytherins from past years. The chances were unlikely, but she could at least hope, right? Anyway, it wouldn't be the first time she'd have to explain herself.
He walked towards her a bit and spoke to her: "Uh. Hey... don't uh... don't pay any mind to me. Just letting off steam... you know?" He hesitated a lot, she noticed, and his body language clearly - raising his hand to scratch the back of his head - gave away how uncomfortable he was.
She cleared her throat slowly and replied in a gentle tone. "No, it's alright. I understand. Nature has its ways of calming us down." She motioned to the lake with a small smile. "It's a good... detox from the stress of classes, don't you think?" She hoped that he would respond and not just leave. She didn't have many friends from other Houses, specifically Gryffindor. Maybe that could change.

Kyle arched an eyebrow. If he was being completely with himself, He almost expected or wanted them to be condescending. to come at him with an attitude or a challenge. Cause then he could put them in their place. Maybe force a duel and let some magic fly. After all, whats better than a good scrap when you need to let off some steam. And yet...
She offered him a soft smile. "It's a good... detox from the stress of classes, don't you think?" she said, motioning to the lake.
his Shoulders would sag slightly and he nodded a few times before looking out towards the lake following her motion. "Yeah. Detox is a good word. So many people, always talking and carrying on. Gets tired quick"
he looks back towards the girl, eyeing her curiously as he tried to size her up. Maybe she was playing at something and he just didn't realize it yet. He took a few more steps closer and turned his body towards the lake so his side was aimed towards her. He turns his head slightly in her direction "DeRook by the way. From Ireland if you couldn't tell. Aren't all redheads, shocking I know" he lets out a short half laugh at his own joke before turning his attention fully back to the lake

Camille noted the arched eyebrow at her kindness. She wished Slytherins didn't have such a wicked reputation just because the Dark Lord had been in their House. Alright, and a few of his Deatheaters too. But wasn't Peter Pettigrew a Deatheater and a Gryffindor? She shrugged off the thought to pay attention to what he was saying. "Yeah. Detox is a good word. So many people, always talking and carrying on. Gets tired quick."
"Definitely," she agreed in a quiet tone. So quiet that she didn't think he heard. He looked over at her - maybe he did hear her. He came just a bit closer still and turned so that he faced the lake instead of her. His head turned a bit so he could still look at her, though.
"DeRook by the way," he said. It took her a minute for her to realize he was telling her his name. "From Ireland if you couldn't tell. Aren't all redheads, shocking I know."
"Not all redheads are from Ireland. The majority are, yes, but there are other places where..." She realized she was rambling and sounding a bit like a Ravenclaw at this point. "Oh... sorry... I'm Camille. You can call me Camie if you want to, though."

Kyle watched the water of the lake, the wind blowing his shaggy hair around infront of his face. The slytherin girl spoke pretty soft. he wasnt sure if it was because she was uneasy around him or just a quiet speaker in general. He cocks an eyebrow and looks over towards her once again as she finish her little ramble and offers a slight shrug "Camie is too long. Think Ill call you Cam. And DeRook is my last name, First name is Kyle. Most friends just call me Rook but ill answer to anything really."
He lets out a deep breath as he takes a few steps closer to the lake, just short of where the water met the shore "I should have been a slytherin by the way, you know that? Both my folks bleed silver and green. Not sure how I wound up shacking up with the fat lady. Place is crawling with mud bloods and muggle born. Not that...there's anything wrong with that." he scoffs some and shrugs. "Or is there? I dunno."
He couldn't hide the venom in his voice, but he felt self conscious about it. He knew he shouldn't look down on other wizards, but why have a term like Pure blood and mud blood unless they meant something? He huffs and kicks something into the water

"Camie is too long. Think I'll call you Cam." She blinked curiously. Cam. It was new, and she didn't mind. "And DeRook is my last name. First name is Kyle. Most friends just call me Rook but I'll answer to anything really." Kyle DeRook, she thought, combining the names.
"I should have been a Slytherin by the way, you know that? Both my folks bleed silver and green. Not sure how I wound up shacking up with the fat lady." Camie tilted her head curiously and narrowed her eyes a bit, trying to understand his meaning. He was making being a Gryffindor sound like it was a bad thing. "Place is crawling with mud bloods and muggle born," he continued. "Not that... there's anything wrong with that." Her eyes narrowed a bit more as he scoffed shrugged. "Or is there? I dunno."
"Well I don't think that there is," she stated firmly. "Just because I'm a pureblood doesn't mean I look down on.. mudbloods." She said the word very quickly and shook her head after. "And I don't think anyone should use that word. It's too... vulgar."
There. Her mind had been spoken. Now, all she could do was wait and hope he didn't cast a some kind of a spell on her.

He frowned a bit and looked down at his shoes as she spoke harshly against his use of the word mud blood. And this was coming from a Slytherin, and an admittedly pure blood one at that. So either she was soft, or his parents were overly critical? Who knows...
He would let out a sigh and scratch the back of his head before turning to face the Slytherin girl. She seemed nice enough and he’d hate things to go sour, he already went out of his way to bother people and get on their nerves. He couldn’t alienate everyone. Right?
”don’t get me wrong Cam, I don’t really hold things like that against people too harshly...my best friend back home is a Squib. I Just...” he shrugs and kicks slightly at the dirt ”parents got expectations you know? Both of them were Slytherin and went on the be Aurors. They pushed me to be better than them from day one. Hell, I got Slytherin decorations in my room back home.”
He finally sits and then lays down on the grass and stares up at the sky. He was frustrated and wanted to just go find someone to punch, but he knew it wouldn’t change anything. ”Dumping out my purse like a hufflepuff...just an off day. Don’t mind me...”

My apologies for the late replies. Finals are awful.
"Don’t get me wrong Cam," he began again after she'd so passionately finished. "I don’t really hold things like that against people too harshly... my best friend back home is a Squib. I just-” He paused to kick at the dirt here. "Parents got expectations you know? Both of them were Slytherin and went on the be Aurors. They pushed me to be better than them from day one. Hell, I got Slytherin decorations in my room back home.”
Wow, she thought. My parents expected me to be a Hufflepuff, but never suggested that there was anything wrong with the other houses. They never pressured me into a choice. She felt a bit sorry for him that he had his life all planned out like that. She wanted to be a mediwizard at Hogwarts, sure, but she wasn't one to have strict guidelines. Half the time she studied she was daydreaming!
He was speaking again before she realized it. "Dumping out my purse like a Hufflepuff... just an off day. Don’t mind me...”
Camille bit her lip. He was a rather stereotypical boy. But she was willing to change that. Definitely. "There's nothing wrong with Hufflepuffs... I thought I was going to be one..."
