Magical Mysteries
Eileen had confidence in herself that she would get used to the magical world without any trouble, but as soon as the paintings started talking to her, her confidence quickly vanished. She remained calm, however and pretended like she knew what she was doing. She had only studied enough to know briefly how this strange world works, but it wasn't nearly enough to act like she was normal. For some reason, Eileen felt as if anyone knew she was muggle born, no one would look at her the same. She didn't want anyone to look down upon her for growing up differently. So, when anyone asked about her past she remained quiet.
On this particular day, she wondered around the castle in search for something to do. Eileen didn't have many friends yet so she couldn't goof around with people, and she already explored most of the grounds. The only two options were to either study for her classes or explore the rest of the castle. She didn't want to explore the castle by herself, yet she didn't want to do school work. But her fear of being alone in a foreign environment led her to cave in and go to the library to get some work done. However, as soon as she walked in a new idea came to her mind; procrastinating!
She scurried to a section of the library and found a book named Study of Recent Development in Wizardry.
She opened to a random page in the book and read for about 10 seconds. "Ugh, boring," she said to herself and put the book back onto the shelf. She scurried to the other side of the library trying to find a book to read that'll entertain her. Maybe a book about dragons? Eileen rushed to the magical creature section of the library and walking faster with each step. She must've not been paying attention because she ran right into someone. "ouch!" she exclaimed. "Oh, uh, I'm sorry." she flushed red.

Every day for Roxanne began the same way. She woke up and collected her cloths before heading to the wash room. She took a very long hot shower as she scrubbed herself red then just stood in the water as it cooled and her skin regained its alabaster tone. Next she spent a long time drying and brushing her hair, moisturizing her skin, putting light eyeliner around her two toned eyes, and a light dab of lib gloss to keep her lips moist. Then she took a lint roller to every inch of her outfit, before and after putting it on, and finishing off her ritual by wiping down her want and wrapping it in a silk cloth before gingerly placing it inside her robe pocket. Content with her self he stood tall and...slunk out of the common room trying to avoid looking at anyone.
She moved quickly through the halls, keeping her face down so not to make eye contact with anyone to avoid conversation and made sure to move out of the way of others as she approached them so they wouldn't accidentally touch her or heavens forbid breath on her. Her goal today was the same as every other day. Make her way to the library and find a handful of books that look like they haven't been touched by TOO many other people then hide in the back somewhere and read until about an hour or two after meal time so she could grab something to eat without being stuck in a crowd of sloppy eating monsters.
Roxanne lets out a relieved breath as she makes it to the library and once inside offers a meek wave of her fingers to the librarian as she always did and quickly made her way to the book shelves and looking for the things she would be reading today. She spent too much time, as usual, just trying to pick out what she should read. As she was looking at a couple prospective books another student rounds a corner and crashes into her and she lets out a slight scream and and she squeezes the edges of her skirt tight and lowers her face "I'm sorry! I didn't. I don't...please...I'm sorry. Ill get out of your way. Im sorry" she talks quickly in a shaky voice as she scoots back away from the other student

"I'm sorry! I didn't. I don't...please...I'm sorry. Ill get out of your way. Im sorry" said a soft voice that belonged to the girl Eileen just collided with. The ravenclaw girl tugged on her skirt and avoided eye contact. The girl seemed on the verge on tears.
“oh! no! it’s okay, um”, she didn’t want the girl to leave like that. “It’s my fault, I was the one that bumped into you..." She stepped closer to the girl. "Look, there's nothing to be upset over! If anything, I should be the one to be upset." She kept rambling on and on, flushed over as red as a tomato. She scanned the girl up and down and saw that she had a couple of books in her hands already. She seemed to be some bookworm, which Eileen could not understand. Who sits down and willingly reads word traps? But she felt like she had to calm the girl rather than judging her hobbies.
"Um, you think you could help me? I'm um doing some research," she didn't want to reveal that she was muggle born. "for school and stuff, you know? I could use some help finding some books and you seem smart". Eileen, just shut up already she said to herself inside.
She looked at the girl and started scanning her once more.
She noticed many things she didn't notice before, like how her skin looked fair and soft and her hair looked neat and tidy. Her clothes were clean and perfect, no flaws what so ever.
Eileen, on the contrary , had messy bed hair that wasn't even attempted to be combed through and the clothes under her robes are the same clothes she wore the day before. Suddenly, Eileen was embarrassed to be seen next to such a perfect person.

Libraries , as Oswald thought , always had a nice and truly wonderful charm - one that was uniquely found in them. The Hogwarts Library was a gigantic place of knowledge and information , even more majestic then all the other libraries he had encountered in the Muggle world. It was his favorite place in the whole castle ; he would dare to even say , on the whole school ground!
In fact, he loved the library so much, that people who would enter the library would encounter him several times a day, as he sits down quitely while reading a book or two. But he also liked the library for another reason, one that was linked to his life and his family. His family always keeped their magic ancestry a secret from him. They were afraid that he couldn't cope with the fact that something like magic and wizardry does exist and wanted for him, that he lives a normal life as an usual human without any potions or spells. And they were right; these whole new informations scared Oswald , he didn't know what to do with them, how to proceed after they revealed it to him. Libraries were the only things , that were the same in the Muggle and Wizard world. It soothed him , to see things he was accustomed to. No matter how you turn it, libraries - both Muggle and Wizard ones - were places filled with shelfs , which stored hundreds of books. They all looked the same, felt the same and even smelled the same. Therefor he preffered the known and certain atmosphere of the library, over the unknown dangers that could lie within this school.
It was a nice day and Oswald was sitting at his favorite desk , as he did every day since his arrival in Hogwarts. He was reading poems in a book ,which he brought with him from London and always carried around. The book was fairly small and bound in bordeaux coloured leather which feeled suprisignly smooth. One could observe the golden drawing of a man's head at the front , aswell as the title and author's name right under it. Oswald would sometimes read a couple of poems , despite that it would be for the 6th or 7th time. He was enjoying the time he spend in calm and peace , before it got interrupted by a loud noice. As he would look up, he would notice two girls who apparently ran into each other. He would be upset in the first moment: "Barbarians - can they not atleast try to act civilized and treat others , who want to read and study here with respect?" , he would think. He would change his mind and his anger would turn into compassion , as he notices the Ravenclaw girl's reaction. She felt seemingly upset and was terrified from what just happend. He also noticed how neatly she looked like; everything was looking right, from her hair , to her outfit and even the little make-up she apparently used. The other girl on the other hand had messed up hair - an indefinable havoc of strings of hair. The fact that suprised him not at all though was, that the messy girl appeared to be a Gryffindor. To Oswald, Gryffindors (some , not all) seemed like rowdys, they were agressive and only destroyed what they touched - either out of fun and adventure or just to break the rules. He would observe the two girls a bit more and would wait how the situation would turn out.

Roxanne took a few deep breaths to try and calm down as it seemed like her heart was going to explode out of her chest. The person who bumped into her look...oh gods did they just walk out a tornado? The red of her robes and the roaring lion patch just filled her with more fear, red was an aggressive color associated with heat and anger. and the lion was roaring, not only are they predators they are territorial. her instincts told her this house had to be one to avoid...but the girl began to speak and she seemed nice enough. she even seemed genuinely sorry.
"Um, you think you could help me? I'm um doing some research, for school and stuff, you know? I could use some help finding some books and you seem smart "
She looks down at the books she had so far, and chews on her lip for a moment before clearing her throat and looking back up to the girl infront of her before shifting her gaze downwards once more. "I...I don't know much of anything. My family is normal I-...oh no that's....I didn't mean...mug-...Muggle. My family is muggle. I dont think I can be much help..." as she spoke she hugged the books she held tightly to her chest, becoming very self conscious about what other wizards might think about some muggle kid coming to their fancy magic school.

She jumped slightly as the girl got more excited and started talking faster and in a higher voice. Roxanne blinked a few times as she thought rapidly of a way to remove herself from her situation. Then she realized something the girl was saying. she was also from a muggle home? From how she spoke of it, being muggle born must be a rarity as she had suspected, though it was slightly reassuring to know there was atleast one other in the school who could know what she was experiencing and might be able to help her make the transition from the mundane world to the magical one. she tried opening her mouth to say...anything really but she wasn't sure what. Then, the extended hand.
Roxanne's eyes sort of widen in horror. Didn't they know how many dirty things and places people touch? when was the last time they washed their hands? how hot was the water? did they wash under their nails? how about the backs of her hands or between her fingers? She could feel herself breathing faster and she just shook her head and took a noticeable step backwards away from the extended hand. "Roxanne. my name, I'm Roxanne. A uhm...Ravenclaw. first year"

He would notice how the Gryffindor girl would scan the room , probably to look for any witnesses and escape routes. When both of their eyes met she would form a word by moving her mouth , although he could not understand what it was, he supposed that she sweared to herself for seeing that someone noticed her wild behaviour.
She would turn back to the other girl. Oswald did not understand what she said but from the looks it seemed rather......friendly? She did not act like he first thought; she seemed nice to her even apologetic. After a bit time she began to talk loud enough for him to hear and understand it ä: "I'm a muggle too! Wait , no I'm Muggle-born , not a muggle...." Well that was rather unsuspecting to say the least. He did not know how common it was but he thought that it would be quite a rarity that Muggle-borns become wizards. His mind would snap back to reality when the Gryffindor girl would reach her hand to the Ravenclaw girl. "A Gryffindor with manners? Quite an unsual sight...." , he would say relatively silent. The Ravenclaw girl would stare at the hand and takes a step back, continuing to talk. This seemed a bit rude, but she probably had her own reasons not to do so.
Oswald would stand up and walk over to both of them but would stop a meter before and turn to a bookshelf. He would act like he was looking for a book , in order to understand what they are saying. He would place the small red-ish book at the desk infront of him while one of his fingers would slowly glide over the books, occasionaly taking out one or two books to look up a random page and read few lines , so he could stay there longer.

"Roxanne. My name, I'm Roxanne. A uhm... Ravenclaw. First year." Responded the scared girl. Instead of shaking Eileen's hand, she tightened her grip on her books and backed away from the extended hand. Eileen took the hint and put her hand back to her side, embarrassed once again. Of course she doesn't want to touch you. Shes too pretty. If she shook your hand, you might mess up her neatness Eileen had thought. She tried to shake away the negativity from her mind and continued to smile at the girl. She didn't want to make an enemy.
Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she saw the red-haired boy stand up and move closer. Eileen expected him to come over and lecture her for being loud but instead, he went to a shelf looking for a book. She started to feel worse about herself. Did he hear that she was muggle born? Is he laughing at her, secretly? Eileen decided tried to best to shrug the thought off.
She obviously did not belong here, in the library. Maybe she didn't even belong at Hogwarts.
"Hey, I know I sort of made a bad impression by running into you, but you are the only other muggle born witch I know that goes here. Do you think we could, like, stick together or somethin'? I honestly don't know what I'm doing here," she glanced at the redhead to make sure he wasn't listening. "I'm new to this whole magic thing, you know? We could be like study buddies!" She realized she was talking too much again. "Oh, erm, if you'd like too that is. You don't have to..." My god, just shut up already.
Eileen looked at her feet like a puppy who had just been scolded. Ugh, libraries are the worst

Roxanne fidgeted with her books as the other girl talked to her. She could tell she felt just as lost and confused as she did. She was trying to make a connection to another person so she could feel safer in this strange magical place. These are things Roxanne wanted to. Why couldn't she be normal and just say that! She berated herself for being self sabotaging and stupid and scared of everything. her brow furrowing some as she swallowed hard. The she noticed another student moving closer. Normally she never had anyone come near her and now she was practically in a crowd. Maybe she could just run away and things would just be forgotten...no she couldn't. not without brushing past the girl infront of her and who knows where they had been, she needed to wait until she had a natural opening to leave.
She closed her eyes and whispered harshly to herself "Shut up." Roxanne takes a deep breath and looks towards the girl talking to her, holding her gaze as long as she could, though it was still only a handful of seconds longer than before. "I Didn't know magic was real until recently. I don't know anything about this world" she trails off as if she wants to say more, and stands there for a few moments looking like she is in conflict with herself, opening and shutting her mouth a few times before she finally lets out a slight sigh. "maybe...it could be easier to belong with fr-...uhm...just...with someone who can relate..."

Oswald would do his best , to look like he would just search for some book , while standing near them. He would listen to their conversation. He was confused and also a little bit surprised, for the girls' words perfectly described how he felt since his family revealed it to him. Even though he thought it would be cool to learn how to do magic and everything that would come with it , he would be deeply shocked and disturbed. And .... if he would be honest with himself , he would sometimes wish that he could trade this new abilities and possibilities for a bit normality - a normal life without scary magic and creatures. He would be ofcourse too afraid to mention it outright, atleast to people he would not know.
Oswald would take a step towards them and would try to act as normal as possible. "W-well , may I give you two some advice?" He would pick up his book and hold it with both hands, despite of it's small size. "Maybe you should do a bit research on spells and magic creatures? Or maybe begin with the history of Hogwarts...there is a book about it , which basically lists everything.....well ummm, sorry for listening to your conversation. Ughh ...Have a nice day!" He would grab his book and walk out fast of the library.
