Fear of Falling
Illowy prided herself on many thing. She was studious, she was quick to pick up on learning new charms and potions, there wasn't a single thing she felt she was afraid of. Until the day she heard they were going to be actually flying. Let it not be misunderstood, the young witch was not afraid of heights. What a silly thing to be afraid of. No, she was afraid of falling. It didn't matter to her how high it was, she even refused to fall when she tripped and it wasn't like that was a terribly great distance. Learning to fly was perfectly fine with her until now. She got her broom up with little trouble once she understood the inflection, mounting was a breeze... but now, they might as well have asked her to go to war.
With her reluctance standing strong, the girl looked at the other student sent try to coax her to at least try to get her feet off the air, "Your off it if you think I'm letting this twig carry me into the air." she barked, arms crossed tight over her chest as she glared down at the broom, resting in the grass, "I've seen the Quidditch player fall before, and personally, I'd like to remain three dimensional. I don't even eat pancakes, so I certainly don't want to be one." she insisted. This might be the only class she might actually fail.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Fear of Falling
It was Friday, the school week was almost over. Dawn had excelled in every class that week, why shouldn't flying be any different? It wouldn't have been any different, except for the tiny little fact that Dawn was afraid of heights, but more importantly, afraid of falling. Dawn had easily got her broom up and mounted it as easy as anything. Now flying, it was something entirely different. When Dawn was just learning to ride a bike, she didn't have one of her own to use, so she used her older cousin's bike. It turned out that it was a little big for her, while she could reach the pedals, it was still too far up off the ground. She had fallen of the bike and had been afraid if heights and falling ever since.
Looking around, Dawn noticed a Slytherin girl about her age looked nervous too. Smiling, Dawn said, "HI, I'm Dawn Riley - Hufflepuff. You look as nervous as I feel, is there anything I can do to help you feel more comfortable? If yes, that'd be great. I love helping people." Dawn, why are you talking to her so much, you don't even know her. If she's nervous, a stranger talking to her won't help her feel any better.

Could you please start the next post with either a thought about Dawn or a response to her statement?

Fear of Falling
You got it!
Illowy looked over at the Hufflepuff, nervous, cold eyes practically looking through the friendly girl. In the bright sunlight, against the fairness of her skin, made only paler by her dark hair, they nearly seemed to glow.
For the love of all that is decent, does every Puffball think they need to come to people's rescue? she thought to herself for a moment.
"If you like helping so much, join a charity." she responded cynically, "And I'm not nervous. I'm cautious." an obvious lie. Despite how hard she tried, she couldn't hide or swallow her nervous expression, "I'd like to live through my years at this school, if you don't mind." not breaking her gaze at the girl, she hovered her hand over the broom.
"Up."
Her command was strong, but lacked the harshness from before. She learned quickly watching the others that speaking too harshly to the brooms only resulted with a broomstick to the face. As to why she felt the need to do so in front of the other girl, perhaps she was trying to demonstrate she was capable of helping herself. Perhaps trying to assert some sort of dominance over her ability to command her broom... she couldn't even be sure why she did it. Illowy already knew there was no way in heaven or hell she'd be letting her feet off the ground for even a moment.

Fear of Falling
Dawn was shocked, but not exactly surprised, the girl was a Slytherin after all, they're not exactly known for their kindness. "You don't have to be so rude you know." Dawn, you're stupid and a total hypocrite, you just rudely told her to be kinder. Dawn was really good at guessing other people's emotions, you might even call it magical. It was one of the many reasons why she was sorted into Hufflepuff. Using this skill, Dawn was able to tell that when the girl said, "And I'm not nervous. I'm cautious.", it was a complete and total lie.
"Sorry for my rude remark a few minutes ago. I hope that you don't hold it against me. I'm Dawn Riley, by the way." Dawn, stupid, you already said that "I can tell that when you said that you weren't nevous it was a lie. I can read your feelings pretty well, you're nervous."
Why did you word it that way, Dawn? "I can read your feelings..." That might've scared her. People had been rude to Dawn before this, but never this straightforward and in-your-face. She was used to people making fun of her. She was smart after all. "Oh, by the way, I'm already part of a charity."

Thanks for a great post. It wasn't that hard for me to build this post off of.

Fear of Falling
The Slytherin simply narrowed her eyes at the other brunette as she was called out on her true feelings about the situation. It didn't irritate her because the girl was out of line by any means, it was simply because the girl hadn't been afraid to talk back to her, and with so much confidence. Illowy almost entirely depended on the ability to scare or intimidate people until they left her alone.
"You're reading my feelings?" she questioned, certainly not the oddest thing she'd ever heard. Legilimency was something she'd heard her family discussing before. Illowy couldn't prove that that was what the other girl was doing, however. She very well could just be correctly guessing what was written all over her face, "I don't need my feelings read. I know how I feel and I feel like this is stupid." she grumbled, gaze going to the broom gripped tightly in her hand that she had no plan of climbing aboard.
Tucking her hair behind her ear as Dawn added on, "I really didn't ask." she groaned, looking away from the girl, trying to figure out how she was going to either get around this fear, or get out of the requirement altogether.

and Dawn is just the sweetest and I'm sorry about how Illowy's behaving

Fear of Falling
It's totally fine. Dawn gets it IC, and I get it OOC.
Dawn had said, "I can tell that when you said that you weren't nevous it was a lie. I can read your feelings pretty well, you're nervous." This comment had scared Dawn and she hoped that it wouldn't scare the other girl too. "You're reading my feelings?" the other girl questioned, sounding like she had heard stuff like this before.
As Dawn continued, the girl seemed to be listening, "Oh, by the way, I'm already part of a charity." The other girl didn't seem to care, "I really didn't ask." Oh well, if she doesn't care, she doesn't care.
Dawn realised that she hadn't gotten a chance to lokk over the girl's appearance. She was really bad at placing a name on a face, and the longer that she looked at the face, the easier it was. Silently looking the girl over, Dawn saw the girl's wavy, dark brown hair with a slight red tint to it, her fair skin with a few light freckles, her bright blue eyes, and her slender build. We may look similar, but our personalities are almost opposites. I'm sure our personalities aren't that different, she has to have a kind side somewhere. Doesn't she?
"I've told you my name, now, I'd like to know yours. You're obviously Slytherin, but that doesn't do me any good, I know many Slytherins" Lie. You only know one Slytherin other than her, that's Camille.
