Cooking up Camaraderie pv Sarah Sailor Closed

Sarah was more energetic then usual. After all, it was almost summer vacation! It seemed like only yesterday, Sarah was shopping in Diagon Alley for her school clothes and books. While Sarah did love her time here at Hogwarts, she was very excited to go home and see her sister and parents. (and her many many brothers if she has time).

There was a sense of optimism in the air. All the students seemed to be excited to go home for the break. But the year wasn't over yet. The students still had classes and final exams. Sarah had just finished History of Magic class, and then checked her watch. It was time for potions. While most students dreaded potions class, it didn't really bother Sarah. She loved all the hands on work in potions class.

As Sarah entered the classroom though, she heard a familiar voice.

Over here, Sarah!

Sarah whipped her head around and noticed her friend Emily Shephard waving at her. Sarah made her way over to where Emily was sitting and sat next to her.

Hey Emily! How are you doing? Are you excited for the end of the school year? I sure am!

Emily smiled eagerly as her Huffle-buddy entered the classroom, swiftly making her way over to her desk and sitting beside her. She shuffled about in her seat a little to let Sarah come and sit, with the desks being a little too close to each other.

[color=#1A00Eo]"Hey Emily! How are you doing? Are you excited for the end of the school year? I sure am!"[/color] Sarah said as she took her books out. Emily could count on Sarah to have the same positive energy no matter what day it was or where they were. Sarah's optimism was rubbing off on Emily as the two of them exchanged grins with each other.

"It'll be a well deserved break, that's for sure!" Emily finally answered. "Though I can't help but feel a little downcast about it. The year has flown by... It'll be hard to picture life without being at Hogwarts, even if it is just for the summer."

Emily had been enjoying her time at Hogwarts immensely that even the winter holidays felt somewhat empty when the students went home back then. She would surely miss Sarah as well as all the other friends she had come to get along so well with. She was even going to miss her teachers, which was a first. She was secretly hoping that she could at least have some of them again for her classes next year.

"We're on the home stretch now before the year ends," Emily continued. "Speaking of... How do you feel about the upcoming exams?"

Emily began to explain her feelings on her first year at Hogwarts coming to an end. She said it was going to be a "well deserved break", but she is going to miss Hogwarts at the same time. Sarah couldn't agree more. While Sarah had been working very hard here at Hogwarts on her school work, she was still going to miss it. Of course homework wasn't her favorite thing in the world, it was still fun to do at Hogwarts with Sarah's fellow peers. She decided that she was ready for her summer break, but was going to miss Hogwarts at the same time.

We're on the home stretch now before the year ends, speaking of... How do you feel about the upcoming exams?

Ah yes. The final exams at hogwarts. How could Sarah forget? Her mother and father kept sending Sarah Owls all the time reminding her to study. Like hello! Of course Sarah was studying. She didn't want to fail her final exams either!

I'm feeling pretty confident about them. I've been studying for a while. And my parents keep sending me owls reminding me to study.

Sarah let out a chuckle. She didn't realize how excited she was to spend the summer with her sister and parents. (And her brothers if she had time).

Emily smiled and nodded as Sarah talked. With exams on the horizon she was hoping Sarah was feeling confident. She was a smart girl after all so it would be worrying if she didn't feel as if she had it in the bag.

"I'm glad you're feeling good about them! We're going to do well. We probably might surprise ourselves with how well we're going to do." Emily beamed optimistically. After so much studying both inside and outside of classes throughout the year she had a good feeling about the end of year exams. As a Muggle she had more to prove but that didn't stop the fact that she was feeling ready for them.

What are you going to do over break Emily?" Sarah suddenly asked her. Emily leaned back in her chair and paused before answering. She was so preoccupied with her time at Hogwarts she felt she had nothing much to look forward to back home, aside from seeing "Auntie" of course, not with the "Muggle" world now seeming so... plain in comparison.

"I'm not too sure," she finally answered. "I suppose I never really thought about it... Maybe take some walks around the forest?" She then sighed. "It's going to feel so quiet back home... With all that's gone on this year, with the cool lessons and meeting you... I fear the summer will be pretty uneventful."

What stung Emily the most is that she couldn't tell people about where she had been all year. She couldn't even practice magic over the summer for obvious reasons. It almost as if the summer was mocking Emily for being special, knowing that she would have to keep that side of her hidden until she returned to Hogwarts the next year.

She brushed off her disappointment with a smile. "What will you do over the summer, Sarah?" she asked, hoping to move the conversation forward before Sarah caught on to her downcast demeanour.

Emily went on to explain to Sarah how her summer was going to be boring at home in the muggle world. Sarah always knew the muggle world was more boring in comparison to the muggle world. There was no magic, or adventure, or QUIDDITCH! So Sarah could imagine how it would be difficult for Emily to adjust when she went back home.

What will you do over the summer, Sarah?

Sarah considered this for a moment. She didn't really have an big plans over the summer. Obviously she had a TON of homework to do over the summer that she would probably do on the first few days of summer. But what else...?

I think I'm going to just hang around the house. I'll study, hang out with my brothers, spend time with my sister, play Quidditch, maybe wizard chess, play more quidditch, you know. The usual.

Sarah thought some more. Now that she was a chaser on the Quidditch team instead of the seeker like she expected, she really should start practicing more as a chaser instead of a seeker.

Hey! You should come over! You said it yourself, your going to miss the wizarding world, so why don't you come and stay with my family for a bit?

Talking Summer Plans with @Sarah Sailor

From the sounds of it, Sarah's summer wasn't going to be that much different than Emily's plans. The only difference was that Sarah had actual family she could do things with instead of being on her own like Emily would be. Emily knew not to complain though since she was thrilled to be able to see "Auntie" again - they had nearly ten months worth of catching up to do.

Emily then suddenly remembered the reading list that she ought to work through during the summer as well now that Sarah brought it up. Then again Emily had a feeling she would be reading through next year's textbooks before she would even be on the train ride back home from Hogwarts. Well, there's no harm in re-reading a few books anyway.

Then Sarah said something that caught Emily by complete surprise.

"Hey! You should come over! You said it yourself, your going to miss the wizarding world, so why don't you come and stay with my family for a bit?"

"Fw-wha?! Me?" Emily was flattered - if not enthusiastic - with the proposal but a whole string of questions came to mind; would her family like her? Would she really be welcome? What would they even say if their daughter brought home a Muggle-born daughter, who to her knowledge had no clue how far back her magical heritage went back?

"I-I'd love to but... your folks... would they really be okay with... someone like me?"

Sarah laughed. Her parents were nothing but supportive of muggle-borns. They did not have any negative opinions of them. Sarah was just raised to treat muggle-borns the same way she would treat anyone else!

Oh my gosh of course! My parents are super chill with muggle-borns. My mom always says that we don't judge people based on where they come from or what they look like, but we judge them based on their character. And since you are so nice and kind, my parents will totally be supportive of you coming over!

This could be such a good idea! Sarah's room was very decorated with posters from the chudley cannons, art work, and musical theatre posters. Imagine what it would be like if Emily shared her room! Of course Sarah would have to clean her room a bit before Emily came over, since it was always a bit messy. Sarah already shared her room with her older sister Anna, but Emily could totally fit right in!

Feeling More Optimistic Thanks to @Sarah Sailor

Sarah's excitement over the whole idea immensely rubbed off on Emily who was getting more enthusiastic over the proposal by the second. The idea of staying longer in the Wizarding World with a good friend and a family that sounded much more exciting than her own parents was tempting, if not more so as Sarah talked with energy.

Emily was nodding along to her every word, seeming as if she was already making her decision right there on the spot. She always wanted to know just a little bit more about Sarah's family given how much more expansive it sounded when she would talk about her personal life.

"You could stay in my room! I actually share it with my sister Anna, since we are the only girls in the family. We share the whole attic floor as our room. It's the perk of being the two girls in a house full of crazy brothers. Does that sound fun?"

"I think... I'd really like that! As long as your folks would be okay with it, I'm more than happy to come over sometime! And so long as you're fine with me borrowing your room for that time being...!" Emily laughed, now totally on board with the whole plan.

If all went according to plan this would be the first sleepover Emily would've ever had in her life. Despite her wealthy background, it wasn't that she was too pretentious or far above everyone else back home to allow stay over or to have others stay at her house - in fact, one would never describe Emily in such a way with how humble she actually was - but rather it was the fact that so much of her parent's work impacted Emily at home; businessmen coming in for "quick" talks, her mother bringing home a crew of people just to watch her pack a bag of fresh clothes before galivanting off into another country for more fashion-related business. Essentially the house was like a broom closet for her parents' businesses and she was not about to subject her friends to such tedious and quite frankly rude interruptions as such.

With all that in mind, Emily confidently said, "I can definitely see us having some fun together over the summer!"
