Ok how to do I do this...

Confusion was the first thing that hit Sarah as she stared at the Owlery room, tightly latching on to the soft carepackage meant for home. She'd mailed things before, usually to her grandmother (who lived a deal away in the countryside), but this was unbridled territory.

Since coming to hogwarts she'd gotten quite a cultural shock when seeing the usage of owls as postmen. Owls? What? Were they like carrier pigeons? A few months ago, she would have thought only a thing could exist in dreams. Well, now they were reality. The question was, she had no idea how to navigate that reality.

So, does she just drop it off?..Will the owl know where she lives? She blinks, looking back over the care-package. It was filled with a few things, some sweets for her mum, a few soft toys for the babe , Leah, and some pictures. She'd just gotten a new camera, trying to get into some photogrophy. I mean, how can you not appreciate the scenes of this place? It's massive! She make sure to get some extra extra good shots.

Then the thought of them not getting the package hit her. Her smile faltered a bit. Hm. Welp, time to ask for help! She saw another girl in the room, about the same age as her, with long wavy brown hair and bright blue eyes. Sarah noted the dark blue that was peppered throughout her uniform. So... a ravenclaw right?..Huh, she seemed friendly enough, Why not give it a go?

"Heya!" She called to the girl in a friendly tone, vibrant grin on her face.

"Uh-hi! Wow, I like your robe colour, well, it's the same as all the other Ravenclaws but it's still a cool colour! Uh- heyyy- you wouldn't know how to work..this?...Er- I kinda need to send something?".

Sarah would hold up the package, a sheepish grin on her face, as she looked towards the Ravenclaw girl

Charlie was in the owlery for already quite some time. She was trying to reach Terry's owl whom he landed to her to send her letters home since they both lived in Oxford but this one did not seem to want to cooperate.

"Come oooon, I need you please, it is for mama and papa! Terry said you'd help me!"

The owl totally ignored her.

"Well..."

She was then interrompted by a girl with freckles and hmmmm a yellow robe? Oh! A Hufflepuff!

"Hiii! Thank you I like yours too!" Charlie laughed awkwardly. Talking to strangers was not the easiest thing for her but the girl seemed nice and also in some kind of struggle and Charlie could not not help people.

"Oh yeah of course! Don't worry I'll help you. This owl don't want to listen to me for the moment so I've time... It's my friend's one since he's older he gets to have his own and he lets me send packages home too but she's a little stubborn. Sorry I'm talking way too much!"

Charlie always talked too much when she was anxious but she also liked talking very much. Few people liked it though...

"Come here I will show you. You only need to get the attention of one of the school owls and then you send your package! They always know where to go but sometimes it can take longer with some owls..."

Charlie gave a look at Terry's one and then smiled at the girl next to her.

"So, you're muggleborn then?"

"Yeah! Born and raised," Sarah replied, following the girl around. "All of this is just so new, ya'know? You seem to know what you're doing so uh..couldn't hurt to ask. Are you..uh...wizard-born? Is that the right word for it? Sorry,"

"He's a cute little guy," She snickered, gesturing to the Terry's owl. " So they just send your package?...Really? Are the owls trained for it or something? Or...it is some sort of magic-thingy?".

Sarah would look over at the girl with a curious gaze. She studied the package the girl was attempting to send. She overheard the other girl mention it was too her parents. Aw...that's sweet. It made Sarah smile a bit, thinking of her own home-life. She thought of the baby sister she had back home, who only a few months ago took her first steps. Her mother promised to get better and things were seeming to look up. Sarah could only hope it stayed that way.

"Whatcha sending anyhow? I've been trying to send a care package for my family at home. You know, the whole lot. Sweets, a few stuffed toys for mah little sister, oh, and some pictures. I've been taking some photos of this place to try to send back home. Hogwarts is really nothing like what I'm used to, heh. I'm from Stoke. It's in the midlands," She spoke, "Where you from?" Sarah asked, tone bubbly. She was excited to finally talk with someone else. And a Ravenclaw! Not to say the Hufflepuffs weren't as lovely as ever, it's just nice to meet someone from a different house.

"Yes I'm wizardborn. Well, my mom is muggleborn but my dad is in a family of wizards for generations. We live in Oxford as well as Terry! Also wizardborn. But even if his owl is cute well... She's so stubborn and won't listen to me at the moment"

She laughed and looked all around her.

"Yeah they just send our packages, well it is like it is I must say. It is kind of an obvious thing for them to find the homes we are sending them to but also they are kind of trained? For examples the ones delivering the newspaper you must give them enough money or they'll bite! Or Terry's owl... You must give her a treat or she'll just fly around and ignore you. But I won't say anything bad about her. I love her. It's thanks to her that I got to stay in touch with Terry and Candice while I was still a child and couldn't come to Hogwarts..."

She remembered those days and then thought of the girl next to her. What must it have been for her to discover all of sudden you were a wizard? And her family? How did they react?

"That is so sweet! How old is your sister? I'm just sending a letter and some pictures Candice took of me in secret haha. I want to learn how to photograph so much... It's such a beautiful art. Would you show me some pictures of yours one day?"

Charlie looked with admiration at the girl. She said pretty much everything about her package except about this one particular picture... The picture of Alice's portrait. She knew it would make her mom happy

She looked towards the girl, nodding along, generations huh?...Wow....she can't imagine having centuries of people doing magic...and right under the regular world's nose! It felt like the more time she spent here, the more flipped over her world felt.

"Generations huh? Wow! Betcha know a lot 'bout this place then? Did your parents go here? Oh my goodness, that must be awesome! Were they Ravenclaws too? What do they do? My mum works as a corner shop manager," Sarah commented, bubbly grin on her face.

"Woah! So you just give 'em a little bit of a reward and they do what you want? That's amazing, it's a win-win for me and the birdie, heh," She spoke, looking over at the owls with bright eyes. They were certainly intelligent little creatures, with a knack for their jobs. She watched as birds flew in and out of the room, with an air of gracefulness. Yet, those talons still displayed a bit of fierceness in the animals, like a hidden blade, only threatening if it needs to come out.

"I've never worked with owls before...well...I thought the only place you could see them this trained was...well- a zoo or something," She muttered, watching them, even gently petting one with her hand, then she heard the question surrounding her sister. Her face brightens.

"Oh! Leah! Yeh, she's just turned a year old! I can't believe it, I remember when she was a little tiny pink worm, now she's gotten so big. She's walking now.. but it's on shaky legs, heh. She's like a baby deer, you know how they walk? Yeah, she's so cute! Here I've got a pic of her. She's a cute tot, a bit wiggly, but still!," Sarah would ramble, taking out a photo from her pocket. It was taken on a bit of an older camera, the edges of it a little fuzzy, but the image of a tiny toddler with a lavender dummy popped in her mouth were clear as day. She had a tuff of light brown hair on her head, with bright blue eyes that stared straight at the camera. The babe also had a fluffy little purple onesie on that just completed the look of cuteness.

"She's a tiny little explorer! She gets into everywhere- mainly the larder or the pantry or the loo or my bedroom, heh, she used to crawl but now she walks. I hope she starts saying words soon!" Sarah exclaims, obviously passionate about her sister.

"Oh! my photos-er- I'm a bit of an amateur, but- alright-er- lemme see what I've got-" Sarah would fumble with her belongings, mainly an old tattered messenger bag. She would dig through the clutter, which was a disorganized mess of notes, drawings, crafts. It was quite a colourful display of debris.

"Here-lemme just-" She would huff out, digging a bit more, before finally, a small little pouch full of pictures emerged. She held it up like it was a prized trophy of sorts.

"Lookie!" She pointed at the photos, a spirited grin on her face. The photos were...well, not professional by any means, but they were some nice scenes of the grounds. They were a little shaky, but it was clear she had tried.

Charlie was quickly overwhelmed by all the questions and the talking so she tried to taken a couple deep breaths. When the girl showed her the pictures she took a few minutes to look at them.

"They are good! Maybe we could go around Hogwarts some day and take pictures together?"

She remembered the girl talking about her sister and her heart warmed.

"You seem to love your sister a lot and I must agree she is really cute. I wish I had a sibling too. Maybe next time she will say words when you'll be home!"

Terry's owl finally approached her and Charlie gave her her package.

"And yes, both my parents used to go here. Walk these grounds. Both of them were Ravenclaws, that's basically how they met. I love to hear about their love story. They used to be best friends and then poof they fell in love."

While talking about her parents she thought about her own story here. She could not wait to write her own, live her own story at Hogwarts. Make friends, maybe fall in love like the characters in the books she read and mostly learn a lot about magic!

"Do you want me to help you with one of the school owl?"

"Aw yeah! I'd love that! You ever been near the lake? It's real pretty! I almost fell in it when I was crossing in the boats, ya'know!" Sarah rambled, wide smile on her face. The idea of exploring Hogwarts with a new friend was amazing to her! And a Ravenclaw girl at that. Wow, she could ask her a bunch of stuff and she'd probably know it, cause, well, Ravenclaws are super intelligent!

"Thanks! And oh- you're an only child? Oh, that's neat! Must have been hard on your parents went you left for Hogwarts, huh?" Sarah asks, her voice low with curiosity. She listened to the girl's story of her parents love. Both in the same house, and both growing close over the years. Wow! To remain together for so long? That's impressive!

"Awww! That's so sweet! Bet they get along well don't they? What're they like?" Sarah questioned, a bright look on her face. She'd always been fascinated by the idea of love stories. Hopefully, one day, she'd meet a person that's just right for her. She pictured how maybe one day she could have a nice family of her own, in a nice little cottage, where those kids won't need to worry about things like their mum being drunk or their father leaving the family-

She was pulled out of her thoughts by the Ravenclaw girl's question. Sarah gave the girl an awkward grin.

"Oh yeah, forgot about my package, heh, yeah...though, you think the birdies can carry it? I don't wanna strain em'," She'd mutter. Her package was a bit bigger, with it being a semi-large box. She didn't want to burden the animals with it, I mean, they've got tiny little talons, how are they gonna carry it?

Charlie took a bit of time to answer to Sarah's questions. Slowly processing everything she firstly gave a little nod to the girl and approached one of the school's owl.

"Don't worry it's okay. They can carry brooms so I'm sure it will be ok for your package."

She smiled at Sarah inviting her to come closer to the owl.

"And to answer your questions, yes I've been close to it and almost fell too" she laughed. "Looks like we are both a little clumsy. Oh and I was so scared of the calmar... My friends told me stories about him and named him Geoffrey. Don't ask why. I don't know myself."

Her smile grew even bigger when she began to think of her parents.

"I am an only child yes and I am sure it must be hard for them without me. I bet they miss me a lot" she laughed. "Well, I'm really close to them. They are awesome. I could not have dream of better parents even if they are a bit strict sometimes. But I guess it's all parents right? They are really kind and gentle even though they lived hard things in the past. But let's not talk about it! What about yours?"

Charlie was now looking at Sarah with eyes full of curiosity and questions. Where did this girl come from? What was her life like before Hogwarts?

Sarah listened to the other girl's words of comfort about the owls, before her mouth went wide open.

"THEY CAN CARRY BROOMS?" She exclaimed, face awestruck. Those were some powerful little birdies!

Sarah shuffled closer to the owl, eyes wide, and her mouth slowly formed into a big grin. Oh wow!

"You almost fell too? Really? Heh, wonder if it's a common experience," Sarah chuckled, "Clumsy? Oh yeah I am! Sometimes I think I have two left feet. I've been falling for years-". Sarah paused as she thought about the words of the another girl. Wait.

"..Calmar....Er-...what's a Calmar?" She muttered, looking at the other girl with an inquisitive gaze....It sounded like something was...FISHY. Ha! Good one, "And Geoffrey's a nice name for...uh...him?...".

At hearing of the girl's parents, she gave the girl a comforting look. The other girl seemed nice...it's probably hard for them to let her go.

"Aw, well, they can see you during breaks and the summer, so..hopefully, they aren't too sad?" Sarah offered, trying to be sensitive. "...Oh...Oh my parents? Uh...welp...It's just me, my mum, and Leah...I don't have a dad..or...really...I have one....He just...oh...uh....". Sarah twiddled with her thumbs, nervously. "He's uh...just..you know...not wanting to be a parent?...So...he up and left a while ago when I was....a few old months old?...Yeah....My mum...she's- Alright! She's got her flaws...but...She's trying to get better!...Uh...yeah".

Sarah gave the girl an optimistic grin. Her mum was..an interesting lady. She was a wild type, always loving to party and go out to the pub. However, in the last few years, she's start to mellow out and spend some time with her...She was being more affectionate recently...and..she's getting better. Still not what Sarah was hoping for- But hey! At-least she knew her mum cared.

Charlie chuckled at the girl surprise about owls carrying brooms. When she thought more deeply about it she realised how surprising it could be and so yes she understood well the other girl and began to wonder herself what other things could these owls carry. "I hope it's not too heavy for them... or it would injure them and that wouldn't be nice... They are animals, not slaves..." She thought to herself.

"Hey I didn't mean to intrude if you didn't want to talk about your family. And you know, Hogwarts is your home too and people there can become family! Just like Geoffrey the Calmar is part of the family too..." And Lily laughed. "I should bring you to see it one day"

Charlie looked around the room while thinking of her family back home.

"Yes I will still be able to see them during the holidays but if you want to survive homesickness here I think it's best to make friends who feel like family... Maybe that is part of why the house where created, To create a sense, a feeling, of belonging to a whole, to a family... Because spending so much time away from your real family, it can make ourselves feel sick sometimes, at least it's the case for me..."
