An hour has passed since classes ended. The sun was still high in the sky, and students were already dispersed in different areas. Saskia decided to go outside for today. The weather was decent, and she needed some freedom from being constantly cooped up in classrooms. This time around, she went running, though she chose to run near the Great Lake. It was an easy way to de-stress, and plus, it was good exercise. The only other exercise she ever had coming here was from flying classes, and she didn’t exactly count it as one. Fun as it may be, she imagined broomsticks were similar to cars, and while she has never driven one before, she figured brooms were fundamentally similar to flying cars.

She had been running for a while. In fact, she already lost count of the laps she ran, but she was certain she ran a lot. Her legs were aching, and her breath ragged, but she didn’t want to stop now. She was already halfway around the track she made up from the shore of the lake, and she’d eventually let herself rest when she reached the end of the lake. There wasn’t any real reason for this, but it was a good goalsetter, at least.

‘Just a bit more.’ She was almost out of breath, but she had to keep running. She willed her legs to push faster, and focused on the horizon ahead of her. ’Almost… There…' It was so near, and yet, it felt like time was slowing down just to spite her. But she couldn’t let that get to her. Right now, she needed to run.

It felt like ages instead of minutes when she finally reached the end of the lake. She collapsed on the ground, putting both of her hands on the grass as she attempted to steady herself. Her legs were practically numb, and she had to gasp for breath, but her previous stress ebbed away, and she felt much more alive. She stayed like this for a while, letting herself take deep breaths, and calming herself down from the adrenaline. It was only when she heard footsteps that she sat back up.

She looked over to see who was coming over, but she could only see a vague figure up ahead. They probably haven’t noticed her yet, which was good, because it might have been embarrassing to see her in her current state. But then again, they might have wanted to visit the lake for other reasons, which in that case, they probably wouldn’t care anyhow. Nevertheless, she didn’t know what they wanted, so she turned her focus away from them and lied down on the grass, looking up at the sky.

Paige had ended up wandering outside about an hour after classes had ended. It was warm out, so she took off her robes and tied them around her waist. She rolled up the sleeves of her sweater, also. Her hair was in long pigtails, but she decided to put it into a bun. She shifted the position of her book that she had in her hand. She had came out to maybe read in a shady spot by herself, but there were too many people around. She was a very shy person, so she didn't want to talk to too many people.
'Mum and dad would be upset if I didn't talk to anyone my entire first year at Hogwarts.'

She walked over to Great Lake. She saw a person laying in the grass, looking worn out. Paige stood in place and wondered whether or not she should talk to them. She didn't want to, but she decided she should and walked over to them. She saw it was another girl. Paige sat down on the grass near them, sitting quietly for a minute. She noticed the girl was clearly tired out and sweaty, but she didn't care.
"Hello?" She finally spoke up

"Hello?" A voice called out nearby.

Saskia, still lying on the grass, only vaguely heard it. She wasn't able to fully hear what they actually said. It didn't sound anything serious, but she knew she might as well have some decency to respond back. With some effort, she slightly lifted her head up to see who it was. It was a girl- she couldn't tell if her hair was a shade of red or brown, though it might have been the exhaustion catching up to her. She was still wearing her school uniform, but it seemed that she was wearing her robes around the waist instead. She also noticed a book in her hand, but from her position, she couldn't clearly see what it was.

Now she was curious- why was the girl talking to her? Then it hit her. She probably looked like a corpse from a distance away, and the girl was probably checking up on her to see if she was alive. Sure, at the moment, she felt like someone drained the life out of her, but last time she checked, she was pretty sure she was alive.

Using her remaining energy to sit up, she turned towards the girl. She immediately regretted doing it, though- her whole body still ached, and she still needed to catch her breath. But it was too late, now. She didn't want to fall back down after putting the effort to sit up straight, anyway.

"... Did you need something?" she asked the girl, grateful that she could at least speak up without feeling like her throat was about to completely clamp up.

"... Did you need something?"
Paige was surprised. She didn't really expect the girl to answer.
"No, sorry.... I was just hoping to maybe make a friend or something. I don't know. My name is Paige, what is yours"
Nervously she shifted her book, hoping she hadn't annoyed this girl. She was just trying to be nice, break herself out of her shell.

Paige really didn't know how to talk to people.... correctly. She had always been very nervous, and was told she had social anxiety at 10. She was quiet, shy, and she always tries to stay away from people, afraid she might annoy someone or not know how to talk to them. She hoped this girl was nice, she couldn't really tell from the small exchange of words.

Paige opened up her book, mindlessly flipping through the pages, a nervous habit of hers. She honestly wondered if this girl was okay. This girl was clearly out of breath and energy. It looked as though she had just run a marathon. She wished she had brought water that she could offer to this girl. Or would that be weird? Paige didn't know.
'Did I start the conversation right? I hope I didn't interrupt her or anything'

"No, sorry.... I was just hoping to maybe make a friend or something. I don't know. My name is Paige, what is yours?"

She didn't know whether to be surprised or not. Out of all the people she could have tried to make friends with, she chose the one person who was close to passing out? She didn't want to judge the girl for her odd choice in friendship, but it was still very odd to her. There were many other people out here, and they were probably more open to conversation than she was. Not that she didn't mind- she still welcomed the opportunity to meet new friendly people.

"Hey," she started, taking a deep breath before she continued, "Don't be sorry. I can be your friend, if you want," she offered, giving Paige a smile. At least her throat was starting to clear up, which meant she could probably have a proper conversation with the girl.

"I'm Saskia. It's nice to meet you."

She looked at the girl again, who was currently flipping through the pages of her book. It didn't look like she was reading it, especially with how fast she was flipping them. Was something wrong? She wanted to help her, but she didn't know what was bothering her. She hoped that if she distracted her enough, she could maybe make the girl less stressed about whatever it was.

"What book is that?" she asked, pointing at the book that Paige was holding. It didn't look like a textbook, but it could be about anything, at this point. She was curious to know what it was, and if Paige was willing to answer, this question would make an effective icebreaker to diffuse the awkwardness.

"What book is that?" The girl, Sasika, asked.
"It's a uh... muggle book... It's called Lily and Dunkin" Paige smiled. She continued flipping through the pages, but stopped suddenly, realizing she probably looked odd.

People normally thought she was odd for reading muggle books when she's a pureblood. Paige just enjoyed not everything being centered around magic.

"It's about this transgender girl... Lily.... and this boy she meets, Dunkin.... The girl's father doesn't like her being transgender and Dunkin is bipolar." She said, explaining the book. She thought about how odd she must seem. Reading books about transgender people. She didn't even know this girl very well. She just expected her to ask what the book was about, so she just explained it.

Leaning back on her hands, she looked up at the sky, watching the clouds. She probably looked bored, she hoped that wasn't the look she was giving off. Paige just enjoyed watching the clouds. Digging her toe in the ground a little bit, she made a small hole. She has always been an odd girl, making small holes in the ground with her toe, talking to people who were nearly passed out to avoid big crowds, just an odd person in general.

Saskia raised her eyebrows. That was quite the plot. It wasn't everyday she's seen someone who read those kinds of books. Not just muggle books, but those books that adults or older people usually read. She wasn't judging the girl for her interests, but she wondered how she got that interest to begin with. Personally, Saskia wasn't an avid reader, though she does read on certain occasions. It was just a matter of whether the book was interesting enough for her to read. From her experience, most of the books she read were about magic. It was an intriguing topic, especially given the circumstances, but they weren't exactly the kinds of things kids should be reading. She couldn't even read past some books because of how complicated they quickly became.

"Do you like to read muggle books specifically? Or do you just prefer books with a similar plot to that book?" she asked.

She noticed the girl laying down to look at the sky. She couldn't blame her. The sky did look nice today, or at least that's what she assume when she herself briefly lied down on the grass. There were some clouds with weird shapes, and it was fun to guess which ones were which. She remembered one of them looking either like a sheep or a rabbit, though she may have been wrong, considering the angle from where she looked. Still, she didn't feel like lying down again. It was better for her to sit up, just in case she needed to get up.
