Maurice jolted from his exhaustion at the sound of rustling bags and the thump of books shoved closed. That was enough to tell him that class was finally over.

The past few months, he had been pleasantly surprised and slightly terrified by the revelation of magic in his otherwise entirely muggle life, and mornings once spent learning about math and science were now spent learning the depths of wizardry and art, and how the two intertwined in a strangely poetic manner. It was a big jump, to say the least.

He thought he had adjusted well. It no longer took him five extra minutes to break from his shock after a class period of Charms. In fact, with all the homework and studying, it became increasingly similar to his life before magic. Now, he scooped his books and papers up and stuffed them into his bag the same as any other day, already thinking about his next class. That was when something caught his eye.

The classroom had already cleared out, with only a few stragglers packing away their things, including himself. The seats beside him were empty, but laying on the desk was an abandoned charms book. After a brief glance at his own set of books, he knew immediately that the book had been left behind, likely by mistake. Part of him thought to just leave it there for a teacher to pick up, but there was a small shred of sympathy that washed over him at the thought of another first year like himself still struggling to manage themselves amongst so much change.

With that thought, he scooped the book up and hurried out the door, trying to conjure the image of the person who had sat next to him in class in his mind. He hoped that he would find them in the halls and perhaps recognize them by name, but he'd have to be quick.

KINSLEY YAWNED AS THE CLASS came to an end, she was especially tired as ahe stayed up most of the night tending to unfinished homework. The beginning of the school year was always the toughest as it seemed to always be a crazy transition. This slight exhaustion could have been the reason for unfocused and odd nature today, or maybe she was always just odd and to be honest she wasn't the smartest person on the block. [She had good grades but otherwise was oblivious and dense.] This could be the very reason why she misplaced her journal, a book with gold stamped cursive letters with her Initials, K.R.R, it was a note journal where she would scribble random thoughts and drawings and of course notes for Charm Class. She wrote in Italian as there was a smaller chance for people to read it in a French-language based school.

How could I lose it? Kinsley thought to herself dreadfully trying to retrace her steps, how could it be so hard to find? She had already gone to the front and asked if they had found a Journal of its description, but no one knew of it. There were so many books, books, and crevices in Hogwarts it would be miracle needed to find such a thing! It could possibly be anywhere, maybe even down a rabbit hole for all she knew. Turntables and goblins She quietly exclaimed to herself! It had only been a short amount of time [around 7 minutes] since she had left Charms Class, she had already gone back and checked but found nothing. She was walking back around the hallways trying to find the awful thing when she noticed her charms desk partner....

Maurice walked through the halls at a fairly quick pace, eyes darting past the various busy-bodies scurrying along to their next class. He attempted to remember key details about the person, and only came up with a few short flashes of long blonde hair and quiet doe eyes. It didn't do much for his focus, so he decided to push the images away and direct his attention on finding the girl herself.

Scanning the notebook as he walked, he caught sight of the initials scrawled out on the front. K.R.R. He went over a list of people that that could be only to find a blank list as he remembered that he hardly knew anyone in the school. A downside of his past in keeping all his thoughts crowded around his passions meant he rarely even thought about making lasting connections with his peers. He huffed out a sight of frustration, rounding a corner that led to his next class.

As he turned to the left, though, he caught a glimpse of blonde hair tumbling down a girl's shoulders, her eyes searching as she seemed to be in just as much urgency as he was. Her pale skin caught in the warm light flooding in through the stained glass windows, tinted green from the transparent colors. Maurice paused for a second, his voice caught in his throat, before he shook his head and cleared his throat.

"Are you K.R.R?" he blurted immediately, holding out the book like it hurt his fingers to touch. His face warmed a bit at the bluntness of the statement, before he quickly corrected, "I mean- sorry, are these your initials? I think you left your book in Charms."

KINSLEY WAS ON THE BRINK of trhowing in the towel as she desperately retraced her steps, the sun had begun its round of going down causing its golden glow to be refracted through the gorgeously made stained glass. Kinsley was let out a sigh before readjusting her eyes to her surroundings and that's when she noticed her charms partner, her rather cute charms partner, as he cleared his throat. She couldn't help but be enchanted on how the filtered light seemed to make his eyes look so mystical, he looked as if he was not human or at the very least a prince from a fairie-tale. Before Kinsley could say anything the boy blurted out,

"Are you K.R.R?" He without hesitation held out the book for her to look at. She was taken aback by the random gesture, it took her a moment to process what was happening and she took notice of the pink/red crawling to his face.
"I mean- sorry, are these your initials? I think you left your book in Charms."

"Oh...." It took her another moment as she looked down at the charms book... Wait. HER CHARMS BOOK! "OUI yes! Goblinos! Thank you so much! I've been looking everywhere for this!"
She could help but take the book, of course politely, from his hands and hug it close, a smile stretching across her features and her french-italian accent could clearly be heard. Once she calmed down a bit she began to speak again.
"You're very schweet sweet for taking the time to give this back to me," She said with a small grateful bow her ears beginning to tinge pink. "Thank you ummm... Monsieur Sir."

She said realizing couldn't recall his name.

"Désolé, Sorry, I can't remember your nome name...."

Maurice was immediately relieved by her confirmation, letting it fall from his arms into hers with ease. Her accent was elegant and clear, mixed with something that Maurice couldn't quite put his finger on. On her face, excitement was plain, and she clung to the book like it was her long lost child.

"Of course. I uh- thought you might need it," he replied, his ears flushing pink at her kind words. He had long forgotten about the class he needed to get to next, instead directing all his attention on the girl in front of him.

The flow of students began to slow down as classes filled and time ticked by. Though often tuned out, the rush of water from outside could be heard faintly from nearly any place in the palace, and it seemed to fill any silence with a calming grace.

Without missing a beat, he replied, "Maurice Andrieux. I'm a first year. And you are?"

Hardly knowing anyone from the large school, it was often easy to feel flushed out by the swarms of cliques and friend groups that took over the lives of other students in the school. To find circumstances so perfect for meeting new people was like winning the friendship lottery.
