Matthew thought he had known anger before he had come to this school. Life hadn't exactly been a walk in the park up until this point but the levels to which he was experiencing it now made that all look like child's play. He was angry at the world, angry at the prejudice he had to face so many times in these walls and angry that he wasn't allowed to do anything about it. Defence against the dark arts had quickly become his favourite class but every lesson he struggled with the hypocrisy of it, practicing spells on inanimate objects wasn't going to save you if you were attacked by any of the dark creatures that filled his lessons and it most definitely wasn't going to protect you if a fellow student or blood purist attacked you from behind.

One of the first topics he researched in this school was about the wizarding wars, it all seemed like fiction. Surely that couldn't possibly have happened so recently but the truth was that it had, and worse than that the real honest truth was that the very people that empowered his rise to power still existed. The education of so many of his fellow students was that his kind were not worthy and it ate at him constantly, not just out of anger but out of fear. Fear that if something didn't change, if someone couldn't help educate them then history was doomed to repeat itself.

Facing the training dummies that lined the far side of the classroom he steadied his wand and began to cast, they may still be inanimate but at least he could fill his imagination in with the blanks. He had sought desperately for an opportunity to join the duelling team but their ranks were already full and with no other options he had to make do. Frustrated, with his vision blurred, angered tears streaming down his face he threw spell after spell at the dummies the wand movements and incantations mastered from hours of practice, "Tarantallegra, Mucus Ad Nauseum, Steleus, Incendio!" Shouting while indiscriminately firing at the three targets in front of him, filling the room with an aurora of lights flashing all sorts of colours all emanating from his cherry wood wand. He had been told his wand wood was capable of lethal magic and by the state of the dummies after his barrage he was sure they were correct.

Kicking over his chair he sat upon his desk feet up on the fallen chair and stared at the dummies. This was worthless the thought filling his head. Knowledge was not what needed practiced, he could tell you the etymology of the spells incantations backwards and barely had to think about their movements but how would that train him to fight. Knowing a spells effect wasn't the same as experiencing it, if your first duelling experience came in a real fight you were sure to be dead. He had to experience it first hand no matter what, even if that meant finding a way to cast the magic upon himself he would do it. Assuming, as it was a Saturday, that he was alone he was caught off guard as he pulled his head from his hands and turned taking in the tall brunette that hung in the doorway. Matthew was sure he had seen her about the school but couldn't put a name to the face. She had warm chestnut hair that fell down her to her back and soft, pale skin that gave her a gentle energy, rather contrasting from the dishevelled mess his hair had become, it always frizzed slightly when he sweat.

Remembering to lose the anger that filled him he adjusted his tone,"Sorry, I don't know how much you saw of that. I promise I'm not some crazed lunatic... not usually anyways." Attempting to ease the tension with some light humour with his last remark, he laughed to himself and shot a kind of polite smile at the girl unable to hide the despair that lay behind his eyes.

Siobhan had been wandering with her nose in one of her textbooks again, allowing for her feet to take her across the castle. Defense Against the Dark Arts had wormed a warm hole into her heart as she had been doing spectacularly well when it came to defensive magic and she had borrowed a particularly interesting tome from the library entitled: "Jinxs for the Jinxed." Though she hadn't had the displeasure of being jinxed, hexed, or cursed, she had wanted to brush up on some new spells -if entirely to show off during her next lesson- and perhaps find a deeper understanding of why her wand seemed to only produce chaos whenever she used it.

Truthfully, she thought her wand to be a bit of a toe-rag. She could care less to use it and would rather rely on her intellect or her fists if absolutely necessary. However after learning more and more about the darkness that resided in the depths of her newfound community. She wanted to prepare herself in the events that her wandering brought her into the clutches of something truly evil.

Speaking of wandering; she desperately needed to stop reading as she walked. Siobhan was honestly beginning to wonder if deep in her subconsious she had a 'people disrupter' part of her brain with how often she kept wandering into situations and places of which there were already inhabitants.

Today, her wandering had brought her to the DADA classroom where she had intended to simply read in peace- and perhaps if she had time, polish up some of her spell work. While she had all O's in the class, it never hurt to practice until she couldn't get the spells wrong. Plus with how hesitant she was to use her wand in the grand scheme of things, she felt it would be a valid reason to allow the impertinent stick to become one with her arm. An extension of sorts, was what the kooky wandmaker had explained as she tried out a million seperate wands until her ash and -ugh- troll hair had settled in her hand. She wasn't sure but if she had to wager a guess, it was due to the core of her wand sparking a gruesome ick in her mind at the thought of handling something that came from a troll.

But in her research about her wand, it seemed that it would provide her with the talent to prove herself in the midst of battle. So there was a logical explanation of wand lore to follow as she tried to bring herself into a comfortable stance to use her wand correctly and not as a hair pin.

She shook her head lightly as she entered the classroom and recieved an earful of angry furniture movement. She watched as a Slytherin boy around her age (if she had to guess) angrily sat in one of the chairs after spouting off spell after spell with a Scottish accent that truthfully reminded her of her own with how thick it was. Judging from how smoky the training dummy was she guessed that maybe he wasn't in the mood to be bothered and she elected to leave but then he spoke, apologizing for the brashness he had exuded.

She giggled lightly at his declaration that he wasn't a "crazed lunatic." Not that he would know but even if he was, it wouldn't have phazed her too much. Growing up in a rowdy and kooky family there wasn't much that would disturb her in terms of lunacy.

"Quite alright. I apologize for distrubing you from your- well from your oh-" She paused to try and remember what the English word for the moment he was having without getting frustrated herself. Despite meeting more and more people, she was still having trouble practicing her English conversations with her classmates. It was beyond difficult to express herself correctly when

"Frenzy! Your frenzy, I did not mean to interruppt." Siobhan said confidently with a soft smile. She gazed at the colors of his cloak as the whispers and comments about his house came flooding into her mind, as though her housemates where in the room with her trying to dissuade her from being in his prescence. However she firmly believed that nobody was truly mean on the first encounter and she continued to show off her smile. After all;

Everyone had bad days correct?

Calming Presence
Is In Effect
The girl had a funny disposition about her, he enjoyed hearing the many accents and dialects that Hogwarts brought in and none more so than the Irish. The sweet dulcet tones of the Irish reminding him of his stepfather. It was hilarious while utterly ridiculous the amount of times he had heard an English student claim not to be able to understand their accents despite speaking the very same language. It even comforted him to hear an accent that didn't sound like it was raised by the crown themselves. So many people in this school talked as if they were raised to look down upon others and it was nice when he could ease into the more broad accent he was raised with, not having to worry about focusing on clarity and slow his pace.

He had been relieved at the girls giggle and it allowed him time to cool more before he replied knowing that she wasn't going to give him an earful for the destruction. Still despite her confident tone there was something behind her eyes, that flickered when she noticed his robes. It was natural instinct, in fact to her defence he resented most of his house for the very same reasons he imagined worried her. Slytherin was everything it was said to be and worse, it had the best people in the world and paired it with the worst, most cruel, vindictive ones.

Standing up picking up the chair he had kicked he walked towards her, making a point of leaving his wand on the desk and reached out a hand to greet her. Laughing he said "It was rather a frenzy wasn't it, back home we call it venting or if you're really going for it a scrap. The names Matthew Campbell, and yours?" allowing her time to answer he continued "I'm afraid I'm not the best company when I'm frustrated, so if you want me to leave just say. I've had the room all day so you won't be a bother." It was a gesture born out of politeness, really he was far from done venting his frustration but he also didn't want the girl to feel uncomfortable.

Even in the heat of his rage the world around him always had a peace to it. It allowed people to see through to the real person below even when he was acting his worse, there was a calm nature to him, something that soothed those around him making them feel encouraged and safe. Flashing his signature cheeky smile toward her he began to back up to his things. He spent the majority of his time alone and so naturally he never expected her to want him to stay.

Irish Translations:
- Ná bí buartha: Not to worry!
- Buille Suas: Beat up

Siobhan joined her hand with his and it's action was accompanied by a polite smile showing off her pearly white teeth. Her grip was firm yet still gentle, reminiscent of what her father had taught her when he had taught her how to build professional relationships. While the young boy in front of her may have been one of her fellow students, she was polite and made sure that without a doubt, he could see the sincerity in her eyes that it truthfully was a pleasure to meet him.

"Ná bí buartha- I mean, not to worry. My name is Siobhan McCarty. But you can call me Sio, most everyone does." She said as she let go of his hand and went to place her bookbag down. It made an audible 'thunk!' as she did so and she made a mental note to clean it out whenever she returned to the Gryffindor common room. As she occupied herself with looking for her textbook, she posed a question to her newfound room partner.

"May I ask what it is that's got you in such a tiff? That dummy looks rather
buille suas"
She says as she jerks her head towards the training dummy which was still smouldering. She then quickly corrected herself and translated her statment into English, mentally chastizing herself for dropping into her Irish vocabulary.

She was entirely curious about the reason for the training dummy. As far as she was aware it was allowed to be used by students in moderation, so long as nolasting damage was done. Not that she particularly knew any spells that could create such damage, but she wanted to abide by the rules as much as possible. She hadn't planned on any practical application this afternoon but she supposed it couldn't hurt especially if Matthew accepted her offer to share the room.

"Whatever it is, that was some powerful spell work. I have't been able to produce spells at that capacity. I suspect it's because I'm muggle-born. I don't think I'm particularly gifted with spell work. Besides, I prefer the magic of the Earth." Siobhan explains as she pulls out her Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook and flipping to a page entitled "The Knockback Jinx." It was the only jinx she knew, but she knew that she needed to practice it in order to get better with her spell casting.

She pulled her wand out from the side pocket of her bag and wrinkled her nose at it. Despite it being a wand that supposedly loved its master, she felt no love lost between the two of them and was thinkin about writing to the kind kooky wandmaker asking if he would recommend a switch of wood for her. She flicked it as if to wake it up and felt it's response as a small humming feeling in her hand. Was that her or her wand? She wasn't sure.

Taking a stance before the training dummy, she tried to pull as much focus as she could into her body in order to connect with her wand in mutual agreement that they would be casting the jinx together. She swiped her wand twice and declared with as much gusto as she could, "Flipendo!" Yet the spell barely caused the training dummy to twitch and she felt herself grow defeated.

"This is why I like plant and potions magic better." she mumbled mainly to herself as she tried to think about what exactly she had done wrong in the moment that the spell had left her wand. It was rather embarrassing and she loathed the thought of the pureblood students finding out that she had no idea what she was doing when it came to magical potency.

This was what irked her the most about wand heavy spell work. It never seemed to produce more than sparks, or something that barely affected whatever it was she was targeting. She had tried to do some research on what could possibly be causing her to emit such low potency magic but all it had yielded was information about "arcane power" which she didn't fully understand despite her very expansive mind.

"Have you got any tips for spell casting? If you're not too busy to help me I would be rather appreciative." Siobhan asked Matthew with a small pleading look in her eyes. She abhorred asking people for help as it conflicted wth her extremely hardworking work ethic. Though she was mature enough so far to understand when it was appropriate to ask for help. She just jped that he wasn't planning on leaving so soon.

This was already shaping up to be a most interesting conversation, he quickly noted the use of Irish Gaelic and although she found herself apologising it actually brought a smile to his face hearing the natural tone of the language that shared so much with its Scottish counterpart. It was like they shared a community despite the languages being different.

As the girl took in the sight of the dummies he really saw them for the first time, saw the devastation he had brought about and was equal parts impressed as worried. If he could do that when he was annoyed what would he be like if he was really angry, for the first time he saw himself as dangerous. He wasn't sure what Sio made of it, she had claimed it to be powerful and he supposed it was but where was the difference, when did power become dangerous.

Laughing slightly as she worried her blood-heritage was to blame he decided to wait until debunking that particular theory as he wanted to really observe her. Still he felt the pangs of annoyance creep back up on him, hoping that was her own analysis and not something she had been told. The prejudice of this school was honestly atrocious and he was so tired of watching talent be ignored because of fragile ego and pride. Watching her as she flipped her textbook to a page she was happy with and taking a stance she shot out a spell towards the dummy.

It had been such a pitiful attempt, not that he would ever tell her that, but he had noticed multiple things about her that were all wrong. For starters there was some kind of emotional severance between her and her wand like she was scared or at least disconnected from it. She spent more time flicking and fidgeting with hand positions than she did on the spell itself. Then there was the lack of confidence, not in incantation or wand movement but simply in herself. Concentration and envisioning were half of spell craft and you could tell she didn't believe in her ability.

She had asked for help though and he relished in the opportunity too, not to mention the fact he hadn't actually learned the Knockback Jinx yet and he saw it as invaluable preparation for the lesson. It was more than that though, he knew how it felt to be a muggle-born and doubt yourself for it and she had too much potential to allow that to remain. Moving his way towards her and the dummies his face bore a large grin and looking over his shoulder he drew his wand in a reverse G and incanting "Reparo" the damage he had caused instantly mended itself to perfection. Returning his gaze to lay upon Sio he said "You're in luck Sio, because I need a duelling partner and I think you're the perfect candidate! Now, lesson's in sessions please take a seat." his grin became a devilish smirk as he gestured for her to take a seat at the desk, beginning to pace himself much like Professor Lécuyer would.

Turning to Sio he smiled comfortingly and stopped at her desk pulling a chair up and sitting on the opposite side. As he spoke it was with compassion but beyond that their was a pride he was trying to project to her "Firstly Sio, you're problem has nothing to do with being muggle-born, we are just as capable as any of them if not more. You said you have a talent for potions and herbology, and those aren't affected by your blood so why would this be any different." This was the first step in bringing her confidence up, if she believed that she was never going to be able to succeed there was very little point.

"Next, I can't help but notice you seem to have some kind of aversion towards your wand, is there any reason for that. I mean you genuinely look almost repulsed by it. If I'm prying too much just tell me to shut it, but I really only mean to help." his tone changed slightly as he went on worrying he was making a prat of himself. Often when he spoke for too long his anxiety would kick in and tell him he was an annoyance to whomever he was speaking to.

Plodding on regardless he reminded himself that she had asked for his help and so returning his tone to an understanding one he asked "What is it you imagine when you're casting a spell? Did you really see that dummy get knocked back or was your focus elsewhere. I can't speak for your mind but to me it seemed as if you didn't believe you would succeed from the very first swipe of your wand." At this moment, Matthew understood just how hard it was to be a teacher, where do you find the line between making someone feel bad and helping them learn from their mistakes. He wasn't sure if he was doing well or not but if he wasn't perhaps she would still learn from the encounter. After all, he might make her so angry that she releases it on him and learns how to draw her real power. Either way the world would gain another capable muggle-born and that was a price worth anything!

In ainm Dhia: God damnit
Cad é an focal: What's the word?
Matthew 's face twisted sightly when she mentioned her muggle-born status and she quickly wondered if he was looking down on her. As she took a seat and dilligently opened her notebook like the academic she was, she watched his face contort back into a normal but energetic face. Once he explained that her status had absolutely nothing to do with the amount of magic power she produced, she relaxed slightly. She was happy, grateful even, that despite his house and their... historical prejudice he seemed to be against it. She hadn't expierenced any blood prejudice yet but she was aware of it. She'd heard the M-word thrown around but luckily and thankfully it hadn't been thrown at her. It helped a little that he defined that any of her herbology skill wasn't determined by magical power and was simply for those with a green-thumb.

As he continued to explain, Siobhan nodded along with what Matthew was saying albeit a little embarrassed when he mentioned her aversion to her wand. This was why she didn't use her wand in front of people. Anyone with half a magical brain would automatically connect the though that she detested her wand. First off despite her taller stature, she had drawn a literal short stick with her wand only extending an extra inch or two past where she was supposed to grip it. Secondly, the core of her wand absolutely disgusted her. It was made from tail hair plucked from what she believed to be the nastiest and dumbest of bipedal magical creatures; a troll. Having been curious on what the creature looked like she had done her research (obviously) and been absolutely taken aback in shock and disgust by the images she saw. Her older brothers cackled when she had told her family about it and had taken to calling her "Troll-bhan."

She shook her head to try and bring her focus back to what Matthew was saying. She recentered her focus back in on "very first swipe of your wand" and tried to piece together whatever it is he was talking about. When the rest of his words processed through her head she frowned. HAd she been picturing anything? Or was she just swishing her wand around like the insolent ridiculous troll whose hair resided in her wand? She crossed her arms and pushed air out her mouth as she mumbled something in Irish to herself.

"In ainm Dhia... I'm supposed to be visulizing something? I thought it was just- just finding the feeling? And like whap bam boom! Magic! But now I feel- feel... cad é an focal! Ridoclus? Is that it?" She asked as she moved her arms from a crossed position to her hips. She looked at Matthew with a braced apologetic smile.

"Sorry- I can't help the Irish... English isn't my first language. Ma parents, family and I speak Gaelic at home..." She apologized as she smirked down at the ground. She could hear a distinct Scottish dialect from Matthew but while their languages might share a name, they couldn't be any different. She knew that some of her classmates grew frustrated with her as she struggled to find the right words to finish or explain her sentences. Some people quickly finished her sentences and/or just corrected her without letting her try. That was perhaps the most annoying... When they just assumed she couldn't do something...

Deep down that was probably why she needed to find a way to connect her magic power to her determination. Because she wanted to prove she could.

"Your advice so far is just imagine right? Is that what I'm understanding?" Siobhan asked as she scratched his advice into her Defense Against the Dark Arts notebook, somehow despite the lack of an abundance of ink, managed to smear it up and down her sleeve.

"In ainm DHIA!" She cursed once again.

Matthew couldn't help but feel bad for the girl, she was clearly struggling with more than she was letting on but he wasn't about to push the issue hard at least not yet. He understood her issues with language to a degree though in an entirely different way. While he did know Scottish Gaelic at least to a rudimentary level English was his main language but in this school language wasn't the only barrier.

How many times had he began speaking when a student claimed they couldn't understand due to his broad accent, as if they weren't speaking the same language. With a slight twinge of annoyance in his voice he said "Don't feel the need to apologise. It's them who should apologise, they don't even try to understand us. Rather that we change ourselves to be like them than accept who we are. Tha mi Duilich" Adding some of his own Gaelic at the end he translated knowing that while some things in their languages shared a commonality not all did, "That means I'm sorry, in Scottish Gaelic. I tend to let my anger get the better of me when discussing certain types of Hogwarts students, you may remember from when you walked in how exactly I would like to give them a piece of my mind."

His smile faded slightly, however, that after everything he said she had decided to take one aspect and make it seem like nothing, perhaps that was the real route of her problem though. The girl didn't seem to really accept magic, by ignoring the comment on her wand she had confirmed to him that it was clearly an important factor. More than that though she seemed to him to be almost insecure about her magic but he wasn't about to tell her that.

Looking sympathetically towards her as she spilt the ink over herself he laughed slightly before apologising "Sorry for laughing, it's just usually I'm the one that happens to, I have to brew bruise paste every few days as I can't seem to not walk into every surface I see." Allowing himself to let a warm smile overcome him he looked her straight in the eyes and said "That is certainly one part of it, if you can't see the magic in your mind how is it to know your intention. However, I think your problem may be more in the psychological. What is it about earth magic you like so much, maybe if we find the connection to magic you love then we can work it into your spell work."

Matthew had said he wouldn't pry and even as the words left his mouth he couldn't stop the thought from running through his head this is a bad idea repeating over and over again but if she really wanted to get better she had to be honest with him. Steadying his voice he said, "If you want my honest opinion, and like it or not you're getting it. I think you confirmed the problem by not even acknowledging my question. Both herbology and potion use very minimal wand work. Whatever your issue is, it lies there and until you just tell me that's all the advice I can give!" he had altered his tone to be as mature and lecturing as possible to try and reason with her logically. Truthfully he couldn't understand how someone could hate their wand, his was basically a part of his hand it rested in it so often by now.

Something in him told him, if he can just get her to open up then he could help her. That was her choice though and he couldn't force her to any more than she could him.

Siobhan smiled at Matthew and decided that she absolutely liked his vibes and demeanor. She appreciated his blunt honesty and she knew he was right. Until she said something, what was the point of getting frustrated. Besides- who was he to judge? She barely knew him and even if he did judge her, what was stopping her from walking back out of the classroom and marching her happy behind out to the greenhouses to cool down. She ran an inky hand through her hair and picked up her wand, observing it with a neutral expression.

"You're right- Sorry, I don't typically get worked up about this. I wish you hadn't seen that... Fhírinne a insint -er- truthfully, I just find the act of brandishing a stick to be quite, hows the phrase go? Baboonish. Despite being muggle-born, I have family values and practices in Earth Magic and using a wand counteracts every natural instinct I have... Does that make sense?" She asked with a hopeful glance. She felt weird speaking in such a long drawn out sentence. But she understood where Matthew was coming from. Keeping her emotions and feeling about things bottled up never truly worked. Despite how Irish she claimed to be, emotional turmoil under the surface was never the answer.

While her family believed in magic, it wasn't in any shape or form of the magic that she had experienced at Hogwarts. It was more magic that revolved around crystals, and reading the Earth and weather. She was keenly aware of reading tarot cards, she could pretty accurately interpret her own dreams, and she knew her fair share of Nordic runes (courtesy of her Nana and Papa.) She knew Earth Magic and had she not been gifted with this new form of it, she would have always considered herself and her family to be practicioners of Green magik. But now she had to come to terms with the fact that she was the only "truly" magical person in her family and... it was hard. Her mother still read runes, her father and brothers still set up their Celtic holiday rituals in their backyard for the family. But this wand really only solidified the fact that she was her own seperate catagory of magic.

She shook her head lightly and gripped her wand properly, looking to Matthew with a determined but still gentle look on her face.

"I apologize for hearing but not listening. If you would be willing to help me I would appreciate it." She said somewhat sheepishly. Nevermind the fact that she was wallowing in her own feelings; she had invaded this poor boy's space, complained about her wand, and then not listened to a word he'd said regarding how to handle her magic and correctly cast a spell. Afterall, he was a Slytherin and while she wasn't assuming- she had to wager a plausible guess that he was a pure-blood. His knowledge of the magical world far far exceed her -she calculated the timeline in her head- 10 or so months that she'd been a part of the Wizarding community. If he was offering advice she would be quite naive not to take it.

Speaking of his advice, she went back to what he had said. What was she imagining when she casted spells? Was it the effect? Or was it the movement? She truthfully wasn't sure.

"You know... I'm not exactly sure what I see. I... just kind of thought it would work on its own? Like a conduit." Siobhan stated as she looked at her wand with confusion. She was determined to figure out how to cast a stronger spell wether she really felt that she could do it or not.

Pondering over what Siobhan had said he could understand her struggle, it was wonderful to learn the little snippets about her life and Matthew hoped one day to know more about her. In the meantime, however, they had to deal with the issue at hand. It occurred to him that Siobhan seemed to be believing the magic came from the wand rather than herself, she had said in her own words it was a conduit and yet she wasn't hearing herself.

"Did you know in certain magical cultures in the world they don't use wands. You said it yourself, the wand is just a stick, a conduit for your magic. You need to connect with the spell itself, don't think of it as drawing power from the wand it will be where you eventually direct it but the real magic comes from you. In earth magic you nurture the soil its physical, spellwork is mental the real conduit is you, the wand just assists your casting."

Leading Siobhan to her feet he pointed her towards the dummy once more making sure to wear an encouraging smile as he went. Then pointing towards her hand he said "Leave the wand for now. Look at this training dummy, reach inside and feel the magic that burns in every fibre of your being." His face began to redden slightly cringing at the description but he had no other way of explaining it. It was like he could feel it dancing gently under his skin at all times, he supposed it always had but until he knew he was a wizard it just seemed like another thing that prevented him from fitting in, the constant outcast.

Continuing despite the nerves he said "The Knockback Jinx is powerful enough to jolt this dummy to the ground, because you are powerful enough to do it. I want you to imagine the magic releasing from you and direct it all towards the target. Really see the impact hit, envision how it would look, how you would feel. Intention is key. Then when you're ready grab your wand and place all that built energy into it, it channels you not the other way around," patiently watching he hoped that she didn't find him as awkward as he found himself.

Helping a fellow muggleborn was enlightening, it made him feel proud of his heritage a feeling that many in this school wanted him to hide. He wanted them to be seen, to learn to stand up for themselves. Channelling his anger into helping someone was far more productive than he could've imagined but if he failed he had no idea how that would feel. It sometimes felt like this school wasn't designed for non wizard kids to thrive, classes assumed they knew things that were second nature to wixen and they had to put in twice as much work to get half the praise. It infuriated him more than anything.

Whatever happened he was sure of one thing, they weren't leaving this room until that dummy was flying towards the ground. Failure was not an option.

She was grateful that Matthew was taking the time to teach her. While she had made plenty of friends across the three houses, she had to wonder where these negative stereotypes about Slytherins was coming from. There wasn't any reason she could see that they were supposedly a standoffish and as her History textbook denoted; "ambitious." Though she did have a slight wonder about wether or not this was to be used for his own personal gain but she wanted to pretend that this was just out of the goodness of his heart.

Not that it would insult her. In fact she'd probably congratulate him for using this teaching method as a means to an end. Smart- Savvy even. But something about the way he continued to encourage her and not remove himself from the entire situation entirely, it made her more appreciative that House traits were just guidelines and not defining moments in a persons life. She had met plenty of Slytherins at this point and it seemed to her that nearly every one of them had some other defining trait that seemed to leave her surprised and content that muggleborn or not, the people she had met had all managed to be extremely pleasant towards her.

She listened to how he described feeling the magic within her- "with every fiber of your being" to accurately quote the boy as he forced her to remove her wand from hand. She stood flat in front of the dummy as she listened to what Matthew was explaining to her. Although it sounded kind of goofy, she supposed he had to be right. Magic was internal, it didn't come from the wand but rather through it. She wondered if it worked the way a slip and slide worked during the summer, when you ran up through the yard and then threw yourself like you were a greased up sponge across the dishes.

Truthfully this was a much better thought to imagine as she could feel the magic knitting itself between her nerves and through her membranes as she imagined what exactly needed to be manifested in order to summon enough magic to knock the dummy over. She wondered if perhaps envisioning it as a person rather than just a practice target would help. Shortly before she had left for Hogwarts, one of her brothers had been a particular git and had made a terrible joke about her belonging to a family of trolls because of her wands core and had she been able to hex him then she would have most certainly used this particular jinx. She would have send his laughing arse not only to the floor but potentially through it in an attempt to show off just how much he shouldn't under estimate her.

She suddenly felt quite the crackling sensation running up along her arm and before she knew it her hand moved to cast the spell as the incantation flew out of her mouth-

"Flipendo!" she spat and the dummy hit the floor with a 'thwacK!' sound, just like how she hoped her brother would in this made up scenario.

"Máthair na hÉireann... Did I do it?" She asked looking at the dummy with her hands up on her face still completely shocked at what she had just done.
