Ravenclaw v Slytherin

It was drizzling, a slow steady rain all morning. The clouds had threatened rainfall since before dawn, burdened by the wait of what promised to be a heavy precipitation. Yet the skies held back and the morning wore on, the skies releasing their load in a light rain that misted the field and made the stadium seats slick and wet. The grass glistened, a deep forest green. The rings a bit hazy on the fringe of the field. It was not until the game was about to begin and the spectators were admitted that the heavens unleashed their hidden contents. A deluge of rain. Many of the spectators came with umbrellas, hats and hoods, prepared for the misery this spring weather would bring. The rain was cold and heavy, the black clouds highlighted with flashes of light followed by a pearl of thunder several seconds later.
It did not seem entirely 'safe' but Quidditch was a violent game where children rode broomsticks through the air, beaters hit bludgers at their peers with bats, crashed broomsticks into one another and ultimately sought to knock one another from their brooms all for the purpose of carrying a quaffle to the goal line or ultimately gaining possession of the golden snitch. That is what brought us to Headmaster Solomon Lear, not the 'safest' Headmaster in Hogwart's history but not the worst either. A wizarding war was fought on these very grounds under another Headmaster's charge. It would take a lot of fire for Professor Lear to beat that. Yet, letting students play Quidditch once again was probably a good start.
Solomon was not one for announcing things, not when there was someone else much better than him in the general vicinity. He simply carried a box between his hands, it was a big box so unfortunately there was no umbrella. The Headmaster donned a tan slicker that staved off a majority of the rain as it ran like small tributaries down both of his arms.
"You sure we can't just delay the game a little bit longer?" Solomon complained loud enough for nobody to hear less the man walking behind him.
"It has already been two hours, see where procrastination leaves us Mister Lear," a man replied from behind him. The stranger was holding a bright purple umbrella that matched his hair but nothing else of this man's gregarious attire. Clashing deep blues and deep burgundy reds. It was as if a color-blind parrot had helped this man pick out his outfit. Either that or he shared a closet with Elton John. "Leave this to me."
"B-but, storm... danger... kids?"
"You're letting them play Quidditch, they were going to get hurt anyways. At least now you can partially blame the weather when you explain this mess to the nurse."
Solomon frowned. He was not a fan of resuming Quidditch but it was tradition according to a number of the parents. Yes, the great and honored tradition of letting your kids nearly get killed. How silly of him that he missed that one.
With the swish of a wand, the 'well-dressed' by some foreign standard man would cast the Amplification Charm.
"Welcome my darlings to this year's first Quidditch match between Slytherin and Ravenclaw! I, your announcer Jasper Gemm" yeah, there was no way his parents named him that naturally "will introduce our teams. First for team Slytherin in no particular order: Alexx Séverin, Dan Palmer, Elena Jones, Elijah Huang, Koko Riddle, Marcia Kingsleigh, Ruby Cazares, Warren Kirkland and Geoffrey Ryan," he read the names off a small slip of parchment shaded from the rain by his umbrella. He seemed a bit confused as he read the names. "And team Ravenclaw: Amanda Sparrow, Angellica Rowley, Arc Perscivious, Cecily Quinn, Emma Hill, Hengist Warbeck, Lavinia Cloven, and River Dewlight!" He made listing a bunch of names nobody knew a lot more interesting than it actually was, it was his talent as an announcer one could say. It was then that he noticed something was off, leaning his head towards Solomon he would mutter. "These numbers are all wrong," forgetting as he did so that the amplification spell was still in use.
Jasper Gem was not the smartest announcer Hogwarts has ever known, just the one with the greatest use of glitter and a bedazzler machine. "Geoffrey is an alternate, and gave them an extra spot. Had a lotta kids that wanted to play," Solomon shrugged. He hated saying no when yes was just as viable of an option. "Let the kids have fun, it is not as if this is a sanctioned game... We are just proving that we should re-open Quidditch to the whole school." Depending on how many broken legs we have, it might not be at all Solomon silently reasoned.
Solomon would wait until the all of the players made their way onto the field. He was just window dressing, every show needed a Vana White and Solomon was Vana here.
Once the students made a full lap around the field, the crowd would cheer. Despite the in-climate weather the seats were almost entirely full. Solomon would wait for the announcer's queue.
The Seekers would find their places on the field and Jasper Gemm would star the game off. "OK, I want a good, clean, fair game. Try to avoid breaking each other too badly, Quidditch games bring the crowds." Solomon would wordlessly open the hinges of the box, and as if the contents were set upon springs the contents would shoot out and the golden snitch would buzz off, an erratic pattern that would disappear from sight with a glint.
This is the beta for Quidditch.

He never thought he would be here, nor did he ever even want to be here. However, Hengist is a man of his word and he lost the bet. Still, he is not a big fan of being the center of attention, so his blood was running ice cold. Once he was forced to join the team, this was the moment he was most dreading. Well, to be honest, he was dreading the whole game but the introductions was the worst of it in his mind. His name announced for pretty much all the school to hear, then flying out on his broom for all the school to see. Not something he likes. Still, the moment is here and he'll man up for the situation. As his other teammates were announced, they got on their brooms and took to the pitch. As Hengist heard his name announced, he took a deep breath and followed suit.

The wind was howling and the rain made it hard for her to see, and yet she felt alive. She held her broom in one hand, her fingers tightly wrapped around the broomstick. In her other hand, she held her bat, which she swung ever so often, to test its weight. It was weeks, months even, since she had practiced. The last time ended in a rather unpleasent surprise. She could still use her left arm to give any bludger a good smack, but she would have to see how well she could held herself with her right on the broom. This game wouldn't only be a test for the school, but for her as well.
With her broom ready, she inhaled deeply and flew up into the sky.

It was raining, Lavinia was hoping for better conditions but she and her amazing team mates were suck with it. They had practiced in the storm before but nothing like this. She always had a competitive vibe when playing quidditch and this time was no different except for the fact that it was the first game of the season and the whole school was watching. But it made no difference for her she was just happy to be here since months ago she was attending muggle school.
As they new announcer Jasper Gemm said the members of the Slytherin team Lavinia felt herself getting nervous. Soon enough he announced the Ravenclaw team and she felt herself heading to mid court as her mind raced What if I drop the quaffle and everyone laughs and my dad would be ashamed and what if I miss or what if I fall off my broom As she barely got herself together the sinch was released and the game was on.

It was the first match of the season. Shouldn't Koko have been excited? The answer was yes. Yes, she should have. Was she? Not in the slightest. The first year Beater was honestly nervous as hell, and not only that but she was also terrified of the bludger. Probably not a good thing...
The announcer was there. He was going to call their names. Jitters were running all along Koko's arms, her stomach, everywhere, but she wouldn't let them get the best of her.
She mounted her broom and kicked off into the air, testing out her bat once she got up there. She could try to knock the other team's Seeker off of their broom, but she was unsure if she would have the strength to do so.
However, her view on things soon changed as the Snitch was released. It was only for fun... Besides, she mostly had to count on the Seeker to catch the Snitch quickly, and then everything would be fine. Koko swerved into position, holding her bat in her right hand. She didn't have a preference to which hand, but because she felt stronger with her left hand on the broom, she held it in her right. The nervousness was slowly subsiding, and she felt ready to whack the Bludger at anyone.

Today was finally the day where Ravenclaw would play against Slytherin in a, hopefully, great game of quidditch. Was River excited? Sure! But not only excited, she was a mixture of many different feelings towards the event about to happen.
It was a mixture of excited, anxious, nervous, happy and simply, terrified. It kind of reminded her of the first ever time she flew on a broom. It was the first flying class, and she remembered her first thought being, I am not getting on that death trap! Once she actually decided to do it anyway, it was this unexpected feeling of freedom, and exhilaration, even though they weren’t flying too much that time. And her mind went from No way, to actually wanting to do it more, so quidditch sounded like a great plan... right?
River had decided to go against her anxieties of being center of attention, in front of an audience, and simply stepped out on the field, as her name was called out. It was like the world went quiet. Even though she knew there were lots of sounds from everywhere, it felt like she was being wrapped in some sort of noise cancelling material. She was focused.
Of course the weather decided to stride against us today... River thought, and looked up at the cloudy sky, feeling rain drops hit her face as they fell. She carefully mounted her broom, and took steadily off from the ground.

Emma put her hand up to block the gust of wind from blowing into her face. She didn't really mind the rain as much, but the wind began to put concern in her head. To her relief, the opposing team was announced first. At least then she had been granted time to process the thoughts whirling around in her head. To her surprise, the time given wasn't nearly enough. Swinging the bat gently to get a feel for it again, she listened for her name and took a deep breath once it was announced.
Letting her instincts do most of the work, her feet carried her until she found herself mounting her broom and flying around the Pitch. Holding her bat in her left hand, she steered with her right. Her hair was already soaked with rain even though the match hadn't begun. Guess in a way, it was Mother Nature's disapproval of the sport. Why did the downpour of rain have to happen right before the match? She didn't want to spend much time thinking about it. However, if she was going to play in it, it was probably a good idea to get used to it now.
Down below, the brunette watched, with her heart pounding against her chest, as the snitch was released and she swung the bat until she wanted for the signal to begin. If a simple race was enough to satisfy her, the game was going to be astonishing.

Rain is a beautiful thing. The pitter patter of fat droplets hitting the glossy frames of his goggles sent a surge of reality into the tiny Slythern's bones. His broom twirled between his hands as he stood amidst his team as if he were a runt in a pack of wolves. Each name called out acted as a means of summoning those from either house almost like an incantation of sorts.
Warren placed his left hand firmly on the base of his broom. There was a Cheshire smile spread along his rain beaten lips, and his eyes seemed to glaze over the teeming crowds of cheering students. Out in the stands he could easily spot the familiar heads of his obnoxious brothers; each one screaming their own words of encouragements in... their special ways. You know how brothers tend to be.
Sighing, the young Slythern rolled his shoulders before swinging up onto his broom. Each member of his team had begun to fly up in the air and assume their positions one by one. To be frank, Warren wasn't worried for his team and their would be success. They were a well organized group albeit most of them were far more quiet than he was.
The problem was him. An unusually little and thin... beater?
Once on his broom, Warren took off like a bee. He zipped upward and sat upright with his hands settled in his lap rather than holding the shaft of his broom. No one had started, as they were merely taking positions, and the young snake tapped his gloves and arm pads to check them one last time. Should be fine, he thought confidently.
"Mindful of others? My, Headmaster, this is Quidditch, not baseball," he mused quietly to himself, a small giggle erupted as he snapped his broom forward and eyed the case being unlocked on the ground. A golden brow rose up, and then a buzzing little snitch went out.

After practice, fear, and finding her mother's broom hiding in a bank vault, Elena Jones was finally here. Every single part of the girl screamed to be more than just a student, trying to be special she supposed. As if the only way to make sure she could stay at this school was by making sure she stood out, the best grades, the best everything.
Right now though, that didn't matter. As the wind whipped at Elena she put her hair up in a bun and mounted the broom, her hand running over the initials near the top. Elena ascended and felt the storm's rain and electricity flowing around her. Elena smiled, her ice blue eyes scanned the field as she decided her next move.

Elijah couldn't help but feel a deep sense of pride as he walked onto the Quidditch pitch. How could he not, when his sister was the great Celestine Huang? Ex-girlfriend of the now-semi-famous Silas Jones? Quidditch, and all sports, to be honest, ran in his blood. Not that he believed in destiny, but something just felt right about being out here, on the Quidditch field with his teammates and the opposing team. It sent waves of nostalgia through the boy, reminders of what he had left behind in his Muggle school with the football team. Whatever. He had a new sport to obsess over now.
Although he hadn't landed his sister's position as Chaser, all his time and practice playing Keeper against her back in Belgravia would soon pay off- armed with his old and slightly-too-small Keeper's gloves, he mounted his broom with all of the others on the pitch, kicking off into the air. The wind rushed through his hair, and he sorely regretted not grabbing a scarf before coming out here. Regardless, there was nowhere else he'd rather be in this moment.
It was with a wide, genuine grin on his face that he flew to his position by the hoops, flying in and around the tall goals before stopping out in front of the middle hoop, scanning the field with a sharp eye as he watched the other players take their places. His only priority now was to prevent the Quaffle from making it through the hoops behind him, which was simple enough. What made it tricky, however, was the gloomy weather and steady downpour bearing down on all of them. Was it too much to ask for the weather to clear up, just for today?
He tried to look out for the Chasers, but he was honestly pretty terrified of the Bludgers. He had never played with Bludgers at home, and now that they were out here in the field... well, he'd just have to hope that his team's Beaters would keep him, and their other teammates, safe. Shaking all thoughts from his head, Elijah forced himself to focus, to search for and watch the Quaffle, should it come anywhere near him.
