Already when the two walked inside, Scott noticed how the Great Hall was emptying. The teachers had almost all gone by now, and there were barely anyone sat at the Gryffindor table anymore. Only a few older students, reaching their long arms greedily over at the far end. Scott didn't even bother to find out if they were sixth-years, or if his brother was sat between them, because in either case he knew they wouldn't be welcome.
"This is what happens, I suppose," Scott started to Alan, as he lunged his legs over the wooden bench and took a seat. "-when you're late. But we're not in a hurry, anyway, are we? No class for a while. Besides, even if there was, breakfast is more important. At least I think so."
He smiled, and turned to the food before them. That, at least, didn't run out no matter how late you arrived. Not at Hogwarts. There was porridge, bread rolls, sausages and cheeses. Scott stuck his fork into everything he could reach and placed it in a pile on his plate. For a moment, the starving kid looked not so different from the characters at the end of the table.
He begun to stuff his mouth full, and he took another look around. Apparently, it wasn't just the teachers and the Gryffindors that had begun leaving already, but the students from the other houses as well. Both the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff tables, for those were the two closest to him and the ones which he could see the best, had only a few people scattered about them.
Scott could see, with a curious tilt of his head over his shoulder, how there at both tables sat two girls- just as secluded as the two of them. He wondered if they were in the same boat, but they must've arrived at least before them. Maybe they too had preferred staying in their dorms with two felines. That's what he and Alan had been doing.
"Those two are second years." Scott pointed out with a nod, barely bothering to swallow first. "I'm sure they are, I recognise them. They should sit over here, shouldn't they? Second-years need to stick together! Should I call on them, do you think?"
Alan looked up at him from his own plate then, and followed his gaze over to the two girls. He shrugged his shoulders in agreement and nodded, waiting for Scott to start waving furiously and invite them over. Which he did.
"Hello! Hello, yes, hi! Do you two want to sit here? 'Cause you can, if you want."

The Breakfast Club
With a free period after breakfast, there was utterly nothing to do but consume time. Sure, she could have been using her time sensibly by studying, but she simply didn't feel like going back to the common room. She had been in the Great Hall for a while now. It was best to get something to eat before lessons began, just as sleep was also an influential factor. Until then, getting something to eat was something she didn't want to miss out on, at least for today. After today, she was back to sleeping in until classes began.
The brunette had only been in the Great Hall for a few minutes after waking up just a few minutes ago, and it showed. The bags under her eyes had bags and she was on the nerve of snapping, The lack of social intercommunication wasn't exactly supporting her.
As she entered the Hall, she noticed there were not many people lingering in the room, the majority of students were still in the process of leaving the Hall. There were a few older students, but for the most part, it seemed abandoned. For a few seconds, her feet were stuck to the floorboards, but after recognizing absolutely no one that she knew she decided to simply sit at her designated table and begin munching down on breakfast. There she ate noiselessly with her head down, listening to nearby conversations. She contributed more time playing with her food than truly eating it by puncturing a hole in her sausage as well as tilting her cup from side to side, watching the liquid glide up and down its surface.
Letting out a small gasp, Emma promptly looked up to the person speaking. He was rather loud, but she didn't mind, it only put a smile on to her smile. She didn't think the Gryffindor was talking to him, but as she caught his eyes. With a small nod, she agreed and set her cup down on the table. After swinging her legs over the bench, she walked over to the Gryffindor table, a small voice in her head telling her it was illegal to do so. However, there weren't many people left in the Hall, so hopefully, the rule had been dropped.
After sitting down at the table, she looked around the room, wondering how many people remained since she had arrived. There were not many. "Hey, I'm Emma. You guys are second years too, right?" Came the assumption in the form of a question.

The Breakfast Club
Marissa had once again slept in. Or should she say, too lazy to get up for about twenty minutes. The bed was so comfy and inviting, far better than all the lessons, homework and social worries of the school. Mari was still mourning, Claryssa always in the back of her mind. Their birthday was recently, a week ago today. She had spent her birthday mostly writing a letter home to her mother, father and brother, opening a couple presents from home and silently crying in her bed. Her dorm mates were probably used to it by now, since Marissa had spent a lot of her time in the dorm crying about something. But she wanted to get better. Needed to more like.
She made her way down to the Great Hall, tucking in her shirt into her skirt as she walked inside. Mari yawned and made sure she had no more bed hair, not wanting to embarrass herself today. The Hufflepuff awkwardly made her way to the Hufflepuff table, trying her best to stay away from all the friend groups. Luckily she sat far away enough from everyone to not being able to hold a conversion. She ate some toast with egg and beans, one of favourite late breakfasts. It always reminded her of home and her brother, James, for some reason. Which then reminded her of her lost friend James.. sniffle.
Anyways, suddenly Mari heared "Hello! Hello, yes, hi! Do you two want to sit here? 'Cause you can, if you want."
This made her head pop up for her plate, wondering where it was coming from. It was the Gryffindor boy she had met at the begging on this year, waving to some Ravenclaw girl. But then to her. Mari turned around and looked at her surroundings but realised mostly everyone else had left. It was to her. Marissa panicked and wondered if she should go over. She did. The Hufflepuff slowly made her way over, making sure her uniform was neat and tidy, no crinkles or anything. Mari sat down opposite to the boys, next to the Ravenclaw girl but leaving a bit of space.
"H-hi?" Marissa instantly mentally facepalmed as she stuttered in front of the strangers. Time will tell if these people were trust worthy.

Alan was sitting there with Scott, it was odd but for some reason they just got along in an instant. They had first met in the dorms, Alan had seen him there occasionally however he never really had any kind of conversation with the other second year. But then they paired up during Charms class while they were repeating some spells from the first year of school as well as learning another, new spell. Alan should really repeat to learn that one, since it was a rather important spell and he should really keep that one in mind. Last year he had had several reasons to use it, but couldn't and now he should keep it in mind for emergencies.
He had just arrived with Scott in the Great Hall not so long ago and Alan was just scooping amounts of food on his plate. Be it sausages, scrambled eggs or freshly baked buns. Just a lot of small snacks, because Alan liked to have a variation in his food. He reached out for a container with juice and filled his cup with pumpkin juice, while Scott suggested calling some other people over. Not seeing why not Alan nodded in agreement, as he was curious to meet new people. Well did Scott even know them or was he just outgoing? Alan would not be surprised if the blond was, because after all Scott was the one initiating their friendship. Even after they were paired up in class they met occasionally or talked and stuff like that, they were dorm mates after all. Basically they were dorm mates with every Gryffindor student who were second year and male, but that were just details.
”Sure-, he muttered after swallowing a piece of the scrambled egg with some sour cream dip, as Alan would rather not speak while having some food in his mouth. When a girl approached them, soon followed by a Hufflepuff, Alan smiled nervously. He nodded at the question directed towards Scott and himself. ”We sure are, you too? W-well I guess since you already mentioned 'too' in your question-”, he said in a slight rambling manner, looking over at Scott with an unsure look on his face. He was not doubting that they would probably be nice people, however talking with strangers was not exactly one of Alan's strengths if he could avoid it.

The Breakfast Club
Alexx had risen at the crack of dawn, and per usual, managed to look neat and tidy. She was entirely uniform, even in the way that she walked. Her ponytail swung confidently behind her, and her gold hoop earrings that hung down almost to her shoulders bounced around slightly, though her robes stopped too much movement. Her blue eyes scanned the vicinity, eyebrows cinched just above. Though she was a Prefect, she wasn't required to do any patrolling through the Great Hall during breakfast, for which she was grateful. Instead, she was cursed with trying to find a place to sit, for which she was less grateful. Typically, she would sit with the other Prefects, or perhaps with a Slytherin that she was at least friendly with, though this morning it looked as though her seat had been taken by some first year hoping to score a spot on the team when one of them left. Part of her couldn't blame them. It was like campaigning. Getting in good with the current Prefects, hoping they'd put in a good word to Professor Jensen. Though Alexx wouldn't be caught slipping any kind words to her Head of House. She didn't care that much.
It was at this point that Alexx had almost given up that she spotted Alan. He was a friendly face; someone she liked being around well enough to go and approach him. However, Alan was with other people... People she was less familiar with. She knew Marissa from Claryssa's funeral, and only remembered her because of that. Then there was Scott Alexander. He was a Prefect for a time, and Alexx recalled that, though the two weren't familiar with each other. And Emma was here. Alexx knew Emma quite well, and she liked her well enough too. Okay, so they weren't entirely unfamiliar. This seemed like a good time to squeeze her way in, too, because they looked to all be just getting there. She smiled, preparing herself, and started making her way over to the table.
Reaching them, she brightened her smile politely, tilting her head at the group. "Bonjour," she started, tilting her head at the group. Alexx was developing this charm to her, one that she had been working on perfecting recently. She wasn't one for crowds before, but recently, she was becoming quite the people pleaser. It was less, now, that she wanted friends and more that she liked being the one that everyone else liked. It came with a certain gratification that nothing else could equal. So, with a bit of research and consulting of her female peers who were more fortunate than she to be blessed with the gift of charisma naturally, she started learning the ways of all the girls who could win the hearts of others. It was a talent that she was going to be grateful to have completed once she had learned the ways.
Starting up again, she nodded to an open spot. "Has anyone taken this?" She asked, raising her eyebrows. She hoped not, because she would be rather embarrassed if they rejected her. Alexx had a lot of pride, and that pride was very, very fragile. It was easily damaged. But hopefully, they would find some sort of irresistible charm in the blonde girl that would make them want to keep her around.
Typically, Alexx was booming with company, and she wasn't trying to find her own. However, she wasn't the one asking around for people to take her in. This was outside of her comfort zone. However, she was slowly realizing that the people she was around mostly... Well, they lacked a certain spark in their relationship with her. There were a few people that she connected with instantly. There was Ami and Reid and Bloom... All people who just lit up her world. But when she was just chatting with people... When it was nothing... That was it. It was just nothing. There wasn't something there that promised a close relationship for the rest of their days. She wished there was. She really wanted for a forever friendship, but she searched in all the wrong places. Perhaps this group was pre-established, and she was about the be the uncomfortable third wheel. Merlin, she hoped not. Alexx couldn't take being that friend. The third friend who walked behind the others on a sidewalk. The one that sat on the empty side of the booth. The one that lacked charisma in a conversation. It was typically her that ended up there, and it upset her immensely. Perhaps her pride was worth a little destroying if they turned her down, because they would be saving her from the horrid emotions that she would feel being thrown into that position all over again. They were nice enough people if they did that.

The Breakfast Club
To his great satisfaction, both of the girls that Scott had invited to the Gryffindor table had come over to sit down. It delighted him, even, to know that it was possible. Because of course, it hadn't even occurred to him that things could've gone disappointingly, until they didn't- as was so often the case. It's quite the Gryffindor thing, when you think about it... probably one of the most Gryffindor things about him.
First, as the brunette was early to rise, came the Ravenclaw, Emma- to whom Alan had started mumbling something gracelessly, all the while shooting his friend some uncertain looks. But as usual, Scott didn't see nor sense these. He'd taken his time to turn to the Hufflepuff girl that had followed closely behind the other, and who'd taken the next seat.
"Hello!"
He contrasted her stammered greeting warmly. Only now did he actually realise he recognised her, as something other than another second-year. They'd shared the carriage ride this some months ago, from Hogsmeade Station to the castle. When he came to think of it, which he almost didn't, she'd been acting quite strangely then- both she and Aurelia had... Maybe she'd just been sick on the train.
No matter.
Scott happily impaled another sausage with his fork in celebration of the new company, and held it up next to his head as he was going to continue speaking- hadn't another guest suddenly appeared.
"Nope! We've practically got the whole bench to ourselves. Please, sit down. The more the merrier! Actually, this is good: now we've got all the houses represented. As well as all the food groups! Speaking of, Alan, would you pass me the berries? Berries are a food group, aren't they...? No matter."
Scott had pointed quickly to all of their house emblems as he spoke, and next to the Slytherin's, he noticed, was the green Prefect badge. He made a silly toast towards it with his fork before finally resuming his gorbing by biting off a piece.
"I'm Scott," He introduced himself, once having swallowed. "And this is Alan. We're having breakfast."

Bonjour? Scott's head flung back to the side for it to meet a new girl coming from the great doors, his pointy nose brushing against the sausage he'd raised as he did so. Rubbing the soot off it with a laugh, he shook his head as the girl asked if the seat next to the others' was taken."Bonjour."

Soon after her arrival, the Hufflepuff also came to sit down and she was more than happy to know that she wasn't the only girl. After listening to Scott speak, she focused her attention on to Alan, who was introduced by his friend. Although he seemed timid, there was obviously a different side to him. At least she hoped so. It was kinda hard to talk to someone that wouldn't talk.
After sitting down, she was sure to say hello to the three students. Each house seemed to be represented in the Gryffindor table except for Slytherin. That is until Alexx came. She naturally looked up to see the familiar blonde prefect and a smile formed on her face. Although she couldn't fully understand the language, she was used to her speaking it. So everyone in the Great Hall wasn't a total stranger, that didn't mean she wasn't keen on meeting new people. With consideration, she greeted her with a short wave and a loud exclamation. "Alexx!"
At the mention of different food groups, Emma looked at the fancy glass of milk in front of her. If it weren't for it being half drunken, she would have gladly taken a sip from it but she didn't want to catch a cold. Plus, it was simply disgusting.
"Same," she chuckled. "Well, not anymore I guess." Emma pointed down at the plate underneath her that obviously wasn't her and then to the many plates at the Ravenclaw table. There were too many to tell which one was hers, however. Probably the one with the impaled sausage. Almost tempted to return back to her house's table to retrieve her plate, she shifted over in her seat to make space for Alexx. Girls on one side, and the guys on the other. "Do you guys have classes next? Well, probably, but still."

The Breakfast Club
Marissa resisted the urge to smash her head on the table. Why did she try to be sociable when she knew she would mess up. The Hufflepuff stared longingly for a moment at the table she was once at because flinching when a "Bonjour!" came out of nowhere. Mari instantly recognised the girl and paled. Alexx, the slytherin prefect and someone who went to Claryssa's funeral. They had never spoken but Mari never had the courage to, not after what Alexx knows and seen about Marissa. Something far too personal that no one else really knew about, and something Mari did not want public. She doubted everyone knew Claryssa died or even that she existed.
The Hufflepuff instantly looked away from Alexx and to the food in front of her. She pushed down the emotions quickly stuffed some toast into her mouth, hopefully putting the attention to someone else as she collected her thoughts. No mental break downs today! Marissa listened into their conversation, answering some of what they said in her head but never out loud. She made mental notes about everyone. Scott was extremely chatting, but only covering the fact that he was nervous. Alan was quiet and shy, probably either not wanting anyone there or just not good at social interactions. Emma was simply confident, knowing what to say and how to interact with everyone. And finally Alexx, she seemed interested in them for some reason. Confident like Emma but with some authority, obviously because she is prefect.
And now Marissa. Regretting waking up and coming down for breakfast. There were lessons later on but they all had time to sit around and chat. Whilst all of them chatted, Mari poured herself a cup of milk and silently sipped on it as she watched the others. She probably did not realise if it was creepy or not, but she had no input for the conversation.

The Breakfast Club
♫
Alan kept mostly quiet as soon as other students started approaching the table right after Scott called him over. Alan was kind of impressed and wondered if it would have to do with Scott's outgoing personality. He was kind of sure of that because Scott seemed to be a people magnet and he was friendly at the same time; Alan has not seen him curse or lose his temper ever and even if, he probably would not be able to hurt a fly or something. When Alan heard a familiar voice, one with a melodic French accent, his gaze rose and he spotted Alexx Helm on her way to the table.
A soft smile grazed his lips, as he proceeded to mumble a small hello, or whatever greeting he would have come up with, when no other than Scott took the lead and introduced himself to those he apparently did not know. From those close around them, Alan only knew Alexx so the two other girls he was completely unfamiliar with, making him retreat in his shell as his hand clamped around the fork he was holding to eat what he had filled onto his plate. ”Hey Alexx”, he mumbled meekly, offering her a smile. He remembered her from both occasions where they had met in the corridors and firstly and ironically in the Great Hall.
Apparently the great Hall must be a great place to meet new people, especially from different houses as all students would meet and mix up three times a day to get some food into their stomachs and share what they experienced during classes and their free time. He wondered who the other two girls were, he can not remember ever talking to any of the two, which is what made him nervous, at least a bit. He could not be too timid around people, is what he remembered or he would not be able to become friends with them. Or it would at least not be as easy, however he hoped that maybe while discussing or just talking they could find a topic or hobby all of them liked, which made talking with other people so much easier in Alan's head.
For now he jut started to eat quietly, while casting curious glances at the other kids, wondering whether the two girls he had never talked with would be in the same year, he assumed so. Maybe Scott even knew them, after all he invited them to sit with them, then again that was Scott, someone who had no problem to talk with Alan, when they were paired up during Charms Class. So even after Scott was kind enough to introduce both of them, even though Alan assumed he did it without any second thoughts and more because he wanted to fasten the pace of the introduction, none of the girls that he did not already know before, introduced themselves back to them, making Alan wonder why. Isn't that usually one of the first things you would do after starting a conversation? Making the other people know who you are? At least that was what he had learned during all his past conversation. It also could save you from a lot of awkwardness if you just introduce yourself before the other person had to ask for your name.
Alan would just ignore it, he could keep them apart by the color of their hair and their house so he would not face any problems anyway. Happy with that thought he just took another bite of the scrambled eggs on his plate and with his left hand reached for his cup to take a sip of pumpkin juice. After placing the cup back down on the wooden table he just brushed the back off his hand over his mouth for a moment. Hearing the Ravenclaw girl ask them a question, Alan just nodded before he dared to say something. ”Well yeah... History, which I don't look forward to...”, he muttered quietly, re arranging the food on his plate, as he absentmindedly let the fork scratch over the plate, causing it to make a rather faint screeching noise.
Alan let his fork drop and cringed at the sound. ”S-sorry...”

The Breakfast Club
Smiling brightly at the group, Alexx took her seat next to Emma. She nodded at everyone, a form of greeting them each. She was hesitant to speak because some of the group seemed less cheerful than Scott and Emma. She didn't know exactly how to react to the lot- it was definitely a strange mix of individuals. Certainly there was some connection, otherwise, they wouldn't all be here. Like herself, for example. She and Emma were close, which was how she got here. Even though that was all, it was still enough to have dragged her over to this side of the hall.
Grabbing some berries, she tossed a few down onto her plate, picking at them slightly. She wasn't necessarily starving, but she needed something to occupy herself with, lest she looked awkward. "I'm off to potions next." She said softly, smiling. She rather liked potions. Professor Nagal was an interesting character, and the lessons were certainly intriguing. It was enough to occupy her for a class period, keeping her involved. An E average satisfied her, too, because she knew she was getting in what she was putting out. At the end of the day, she couldn't be mad with the results.
Looking over to Alan, she tilted her head. "Why's that?" She asked, popping another berry into her mouth. She was merely curious, was all. History of Magic was a fun subject to her. She didn't mind it at all, as a matter of fact. Though, she didn't always score her highest in that class. Nevertheless, it was interesting. There was a lot to learn, and she enjoyed absorbing what was offered. Next year, for example. She was excited about her new electives. Ancient Runes sounded rather interesting! There were many things that Alexx was excited about when it came to learning. Hearing that someone wasn't excited about something spooked her. Of course, not everyone was her, and she knew that.
Tightening her ponytail, she glanced back around the table. Scott was right; all of the houses were represented. Though they had mismatched personalities, for sure. Emma was lively, Marissa was... sad? Scott was outgoing and carefree (she noted that she would very much like to spend time with Scott one day). Alan was... also possibly sad? Or perhaps just shy? And then there was Alexx, who was a sort of neutral attitude if there was such a thing. Deep down, she was anxious. Her stomach was fluttering. But on the outside, she was confident. So maybe she was the liar of this group. The true snake. Deception was her key feature, and she had it on display this morning. Perhaps her personality fell in line with her house entirely. Hers and Scotts. That was only if they were speaking in terms of stereotypes, however. And no one was speaking of it, it was just something she picked up.
She pushed some berries around, letting her gaze fall to her plate. She still felt a little misplaced in this crowd, which was no one's fault. Alexx just had a very low social battery, so to speak. A part of her hoped none of them noticed, because she didn't feel like explaining it to anyone. This was what her mom called puberty or something like that- when your hormones get all out of whack and your moods change in a split second. Alexx hated her newfound teenage angst with a burning passion.
