Before Mateo went to Mahoutokoro, he would be homeschooled by his parents, which is why, when he reached the age of seven, he didn't go to the day program at the school, but also, because at the time, his parents didn't know which school he'll be going to. But, besides being homeschooled, he'd be able to go outside, and play with his friends. And, he also received owls from his childhood friend, which is how the two of them talked, but they haven't met at all in person, but maybe that'll change, soon.

Mateo heard Devon speak again, so he listened and heard her talking more about apartments and more transportation to get around in New York, and Devon also mentioned that she always imagined what it'd be like to live in a mansion. Mateo smiled at her, before saying,
"Ah, ok, that makes sense. When Tracey lived in the muggle world, she lived with her grandparents, but she also lives in a mansion in the wizarding world. Most pureblood families live in mansions, depending on what the parents want to live in. I love my mansion, but apartments sound cool too. Are you allowed to take muggle devices with you to Ilvermorny? Tracey can't take any to Hogwarts, and I don't think any muggle devices can be taken into Mahoutokoro either. Nice, we also have planes, and busses and cars as well,"

After he finished speaking, he heard Devon speaking again, so, he listened and heard her talking about how Tiger is a cute name for a kitten, which Mateo agreed with. She then added that Kaitlyn has a pet bunny named after the Greek goddess Demeter, which Mateo found interesting, and then asked to be reminded on what a Metamorphmagus is, so Mateo says,
"I agree with you. Tiger is indeed such a cute name for a kitten! I don't know much about Greek goddesses and gods, but Demeter sounds like a good name for a bunny! Sometimes, Metamorphmagus don't want to say if they are a Metamorphmagus, because they fear what others will think about them. Anyways, a Metamorphmagus has the ability to change their appearance. Like, they can change their hair color, style, length, and shape of their hair whenever they want. They can also change their eye color. As well as the shape of their face, and even possibly their whole appearance to look like someone else entirely. It's a really cool ability, and I wish I had it, but I don't, sadly,"

Mateo saw Devon smile, so he smiled back at her, then he heard her speak, talking about her visit to a mansion, and her opinion about the mansions having so many rooms, then he heard her speak about her not trying to use Muggle devices at Ilvermorny, but when he heard that she liked playing American Soccer, Mateo smiled before saying,
"Mansions can get confusing sometimes, but mine is pretty different than the other mansions in Japan. On the outside, it looks like a normal Japanese mansion, but on the inside, it's inspired by modern Japanese and Spanish, which is pretty cool. Oh that's cool. Tracey and some of my other childhood friends told me about American Soccer, and I really like it. Some of my friends are half-bloods or have family that is half-blood, and they also taught me how to play,"

Even though Mateo is a pureblood, he has half-blood friends, and other pureblood friends that could know someone that is half-blood or have family that is half-blood. Ever since he learned about American Soccer, or soccer in general, he became interested in it, like he did with Quidditch.

Mateo snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Devon speaking again, he listened to her, and then said,
"Oh, that's nice. I'm an only child, Tracey is too. Perhaps you should meet Tracey? Maybe I could introduce you to her? She's really nice, and once she gets comfortable with someone she'll probably show you her ability,"

Mateo saw Devon nod her head in agreement to what he said about confusing mansions. He then heard Devon reply stating her opinion on getting lost in mansions, then he heard her say that she's studying Spanish, and Mateo was definitely going to ask if he could teach her how to speak it fluently. He hadn't met anyone that speaks Spanish yet, and he thinks it'll be cool to speak it with someone else. He then heard Devon speak more about soccer, and once she had finished speaking, Mateo said,
"That's true. It took me a year to get used to mine. But I sometimes still get confused and lost, but not a lot. Would you like me to teach you Spanish? I speak it fluently, and I wouldn't mind teaching you. Wow, you've been playing soccer for a while. It's like how i've been playing Quidditch for a long time as well!"

From the way the conversation is going, Mateo knows that they have things in common, which is nice, since they can become friends faster, well, he hopes they can become friends, but he isn't sure if Devon also wants to become friends, and he doesn't exactly want to read her to figure that out, since he doesn't want Devon to think that he's weird.

He snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Devon speak, and he listened to her. This time she spoke about her having two older brothers and one older sister, which made Mateo interested in what it's like to have a sibling. Then when he heard her say that she'll love to meet Tracey, Mateo knew he'd have to ask Tracey first, and then he said,
"Wow, that's a lot of siblings. What's it like? As an only child, it's really chill. You pretty much get everything, and you don't have to share it with anyone. You also get a room to yourself. I'm sure Tracey would love to meet you. I'll have to ask her the next time I see her, and of course you can invite Kaitlyn and her twin. I want to meet them too,"

Mateo saw Devon nod to what he had said about getting lost in mansions. He then heard the girl speak about saying that mansions are both beautiful and scary all at once. He then heard Devon say that Mateo didn't have to help Devon with her Spanish, but he kinda wanted to, but he also didn't want to insist on helping her, if she didn't want his help. When she mentioned that she's a Broom Racer he smiled at her, before finally saying,
"Mansions aren't really scary, ok, maybe they are when you don't know where you are, or where anything is. But overtime, you get used to it. Oh, are you sure? I really don't mind teaching you. I'm teaching Tracey Spanish. Oh, that's nice. How is it so far? I'm not officially on the team yet, I'm on the waitlist, for now. Hopefully I can get on the team though,"

The young Japanese-Spanish boy is currently, sadly, on the waitlist for his teams Quidditch team, but he knows one day, he'll become a chaser or a seeker onto the team. Mateo also knew that while he's here at Hogwarts. He can meet people that are from other schools and become friends with them.

Mateo then heard Devon speak again, this time talking about what it's like to have siblings, which made Mateo interested, but he frowned slightly when he heard that they couldn't teach Devon magic, and that she was lonely last year. Then he smiled again when Devon said she can't wait and that it'll be fun, and that she'll be sure to invite Kaitlyn and Abigail. Mateo then said,
"Oh, nice. I guess older siblings would do that. Making sure nothing bad happens to you. Aw, that's sad that you couldn't learn any magic from them. Aw, last year must've been tough for you. But at least you can be with them now? Alright! I also can't wait! It'll definitely be fun,"

Mateo saw Devon nod, which showed Mateo that Devon was listening. He then heard Devon speak, so he listened to her, and when she agreed to allow him to teach her Spanish, a bright smile appeared on his face. When he heard Devon speak about flying, he smiled again before saying,
"There's no need for you to apologize. You weren't being rude. Everyone has their own opinions. I'm sorry if I made you feel like you were being rude. Great! So, how much Spanish do you know? Do you know the basics, like hello, and how are you? Oh, well, at least you are improving in flying! When I was younger, and when I first rode a broom, I also fell, but over time, I got the hang of it, and got better at flying. Flying through obstacle courses is fun. I could be a broom racer, but I prefer Quidditch. Heh, your right. Hopefully I get onto the team soon,"

While Mateo was improving his flying, his parents decided to sometimes set up some obstacle courses for him, so he could get better at flying, and soon, Mateo learned that they were seeing if he could possibly become a broom racer, but Mateo really wanted to become a Quidditch player, and they knew that, but just in case, he could also become a broom racer, which he wouldn't mind.

Mateo snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Devon speak again, continuing their conversation about family. Once she stopped speaking, Mateo said,
"That's nice! At least you get to be with them now. Well, at least you weren't always at home. Heh, we could be friends, right? If so, maybe we could also owl each other as well once we go back to our schools?"
