Ashton sat in tears at the Quidditch pitch, trying to calm his mind. He was having an anxiety attack and none of his grounding techniques had been working. He cleared his throat, took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and began to sing.

"Leagann an ghrian níos faide an áit a bhfuil mé.
Nuair a théann aislingí go bás agus tú ag spraoi.
Ritheann an fhírinne fiáin, cosúil le páistí ar choincréit.
Agus mé ag iarraidh m'intinn a thapú ina chaighean agus a fheicim."
(The sun sets longer where I am from.
Where dreams go to die while having fun.
The truth runs wild like kids on concrete.
Trying to sedate my mind in its cage and numb what I see.)

He paused, thinking he heard a noise. 'Probably nothing. Just the wind.' he told himself.

"Feicim linnte snámha agus seomraí suí agus eitleáin.
Cóicín, billí dollar, agus
Ní thagann ach fools duitse, ach amadán amháin.
Ní dhéanann ach amadán na rudaí a dhéanaim, gan stró.
Fág an chomharsanacht ghorm seo. Ní raibh a fhios agat go bhféadfadh grámhar an rud seo a ghortú.
Ó, spreagann sé mé, gan stró.
Mo phillín sona beag, tóg uaim é.
Triomaigh mo shúile. Cuir dath ar mo spéir."

(I see swimming pools, and living rooms, and aeroplanes.
Cocaine, dollar bills, and
Only fools fall for you, only fools.
Only fools do what I do, at ease.
Leave this blue neighborhood. Never knew loving could hurt this good.
Oh, it drives me, at ease.
My happy little pill, take me away.
Dry my eyes, bring color to my skies.)

There was the noise again. 'Maybe it was an animal rooting around for something?' He left his eyes open as he sang the next piece.

"Ní gá duit a rá gur breá liom tú a rá go bhfuil grá agam duit.
Ba mhaith liom tú, beidh dath gorm orm.
Rud ar bith a thógann sé ort fanacht.
Ní fheicim mé féin ach amháin nuair atá mé ag amharc suas ort.
Is é an rud is gá dom a bheith fiáin.
Is é an rud fiáin a theastaíonn uaim.
Fiáin, fiáin.
Táimid ag rith chomh gasta agus ní fheicimid siar riamh.
Agus is cuma cad é an easpa eolais atá agatsa.
Céard a tharlóidh má rithimid ar shiúl.
Cad a tharlódh dá bhfágfaimis inniu.
Cad a tharlódh dá ndéarfaimis slán slán sábháilte."
(You don't have to say 'I love you' to say I love you.
I want you, I'll color me blue.
Anything it takes to make you stay.
Only seeing myself when I'm looking up at you.
All I need is wild.
Wild, all I need is
wild, wild.
We are running so fast and we never look back
and whatever I lack, you make up.
What if, what if we run away?
What if, what if we left today?
What if we said goodbye to safe and sound?)

He heard the noise again, but still didn't see anything. A realisation hit him. It could be the ghosts messing with him. Not likely, genius. It was worth the thought, anyway. He left his eyes open once more as he finished the song, hoping to catch the noise maker.

"Ba mhaith liom codladh in aice leat agus sin uile is mian liom a dhéanamh anois
Póg dom ar an mbéal agus cuir saor mé
B'fhéidir nach mian liom neamh
Táimid ag déanamh dathanna corcra as dearg agus gorm
Just ag iarraidh a bheith fionnuar, ach ag iarraidh a bheith cosúil leatsa
Nuair a fhéachann tú mar sin, níor theastaigh uaim riamh a bheith chomh dona
spreagann sé mé gan stró
Mo óige, is mise mo óige, fírinne chomh hard is nach féidir leat neamhaird a dhéanamh
Mo óige, mo óige, mo óige
Níl uaim ach fiáin, fiáin
Is mise mo óige
Is fiáin, fiáin, is gá dom
Fiáin, fiáin, is mise mo óige
Fiáin, fiáin."
(I want to sleep next to you and that's all I want to do right now
Kiss me on the mouth and set me free
Maybe I don't want heaven
We've been making shades of purple out of red and blue
Just trying to be cool, just trying to be like you
Cause when you look like that, I never ever wanted to be so bad
it drives me at ease
My youth, my youth is yours, a truth so loud you can't ignore
My youth, my youth, my youth
All I need is wild, wild
My youth is yours
Wild, wild, all I need is
Wild, wild, my youth is yours
Wild, wild)

There! Just out of his line of sight, there had been a person just standing. It was weird. He could see them now, but not very clearly.

"Hello? I can see you! Please don't hide!" he called out. "I'm Ashton. What's your name?"

Jay was in the quidditch pitch hoping to get some inspiration for drawing. It was another stupid art block. They stared at their paper for ten minutes, then looked up at the empty quidditch pitch, and then looked back down. Jay tapped their pencil against the paper, just as they put the tip of their pencil on the paper to draw something they heard singing. In a different language.

Jay quickly put down their drawing supplies and listened, then they moved a little closer to the voice. Whoever was singing sure did have talent, Jay was terrible at singing. Their voice sounded like they were a duck getting strangled whenever they tried to sing as loud as this!

They then started go get just a little closer to the singer, they could see the person but not so clearly. Just then, the figure noticed Jay and called out to them. Perhaps I could make a new friend... After all I do need more than just one to help me rise to power... They straightened their posture and walked towards him.

“I’m Jay, Jay Victoria. I like your singing. I didn’t mean to disturb you, I was drawing but then I heard you”

"Nice ta meet you, Jay. I'm Ashton. Ashton Everly. Mos' people jus' call me Ash, though."

He blushed at being caught singing.

"I like ta sing. It always calms me down. Been at i' since I was young, only ge' better as I practice. Could always be improved, though."

He smiled at his memory of the first time he sang.

'Mum used to sing me to sleep. I wanted to surprise her with our special song, so I learned it and sang it for her.'

"Mum was so surprised and 'appy when she first 'eard me, even though I sounded like a strangled mockin'bird. She loved it."

He grinned at Jay, happy to have met her.

"You look familiar. You're in Gryffindor with me, righ'? It's a wonder we 'aven't met yet. You look like my friend back 'ome, actually. 'Er name's Jensen. She's a righ' beau'y, tha' one. So are you."

The words just flew from his mouth with no filter to stop them. He inwardly cringed at how awkward he was being.

'You are an idiot. You know that? You could've just not said that. Stop being so weird.' he mentally scolded himself.

"Sorry. That was probably really strange."

Oh thank the gods for not getting angry at me! Jay thought, every time they accidentally ‘interrupted’ someone that person would get all out angry at them.

So apparently Everly is a griffindor! Of course, it was on his school robes but Jay was too busy with the singing instead of paying attention to their surroundings. Just then he mentioned how Jay looked like a girl he used to know. And how they’re both a beauty. Jays face went red, it was a mixture of blushing and embarrassment and confusion. Are my pants too tight? Is my hair very long? They wondered, they did not want to look too girlish, having very soft skin and being in the girls dormitory was already enough for them. Jay didn’t belong in the girls section, or even the boys section. They felt best in the middle.

Umm... Thanks. It’s not strange to compliment someone, heh heh...” Jay gave him a small reassuring smile. Don’t burst, don’t burst, don’t burst! They kept saying in their mind, they had an urge to tell him that they weren’t exactly a girl but Jay has also been trying to control their anger issues. And yelling at this dude or bursting into tears was definetly not something they wanted to do.

[quote]Shannon was feeling... ecstatic today. It was too good of a day to be studying—well, it seemed like everyday was too good—that she just wanted to go outside and enjoy it. She shed her robes, threw her notes and quill on to her bed—probably will leave a stain—and whisked herself out of the Hufflepuff dorms and outside.

The breeze hit her so crisply that she at first just took a moment to enjoy it, sucking in a deep breath and let it all out, a three note tune bellowing from her lungs. She burst into laughter, squeezing her sides, and stumbled down the stairs and onto the grass.

She held her hand in one hand and now a pink scrunchie in the other, having taken her blond hair out of it's week old ponytail. It spread out like a pair of golden wings that a great bird just unfolded, glowing in the sun. Everything seemed so bright today, from the day, to the people, to Shannon.

As she walked around, not really caring where she ended up, as long as it was somewhere, she began to hear...singing. Was it near the Quidditch Field? It was really quite good but she failed to understand what they were saying. Shannon, nor her family, were interested in music beyond a source of entertainment, but she felt like even though she couldn't understand the words she could understand the feeling behind it. That was a first to her, usually she only cared about a song if it was danceable.

Wandering towards the source of the voice, Shannon found two students, they both looked mildly uncomfortable, the green-haired one more so. She actually liked the color green, and it looked good on this girl...were they a girl, actually? They had both feminine and masculine features, and considering society these days Shannon would rather be safe than sorry.

Grinning widely, like she was all too happy to be here, Shannon said, “Sorry if I'm interrupting something...but your voice is amazing, you should try out for a talent show or something!” Her eyes crinkled, genuine to the core.

Her eyes shifted towards the other person. Were the both Gryffindors? Her smiled flickered, but she was unsure why. “I just overheard you back there,” she explained, pointing her thumb behind her.

"Well I'm glad I could provide some entertainmen', Jay. You room with the rest o' the boys or do you 'ave your own dorm?"

Ashton asked the kind person in front of him. He realised that Jay could be short for something more feminine, though. This made him aware of the mistake he had possibly just made.

"I'm sorry. I'm trying to learn not to make sudden assumptions about people. Especially about gender."

He could feel his face being lit up by an oncoming blush.

"Do you room with the guys? Or-"

He didn't have time to finish his question. He sighed in relief as a girl came up and commented on his voice.

"Well, 'ello. Nice to meet you. I'm Ash." He simplified his name so as not to overwhelm anybody. "This is Jay." He gestured to the person beside him.

He then turned his attention back to Shannon.

"Do you really think I sounded good? I appreciate it, but I have to disagree. It was just a dumb song that I learned a couple of years ago. I found it on some muggle website. I've been obsessed with learning as much about muggles as I could since I was little. Sorry. I tend to ramble on a lot. What's your name?"
