Something Wrong and Positively Weird Finished

Mikael blinked haphazardly as he stared at his ceiling came into view. The old worn wood stared mockingly back at him. Creaking quietly from the wind that turned and twisted outside. His brows furrowed slightly as he tried to push himself up out of bed. His body throbbed with a tiredness that seemed to run through him. His head felt thick and stuffy, and it took him far too long to realize he felt horrid. Tiredly, he eased his body back down onto his bed. His gaze turned towards the window a frown stuck upon his lips. The light from outside seemed to still be dim. Not much time must have passed since he went to the shed. Though, the boy's brows furrowed further, how did he end up back here? Thinking back he could not distinguish anything after he had found that gown. A sour taste filled his mouth as he remembered the moments that had taken place. It was then that he heard his door start to turn.

Quickly, the boy turned his gaze back towards the door. In the dimly lit room, the shadows seemed to jump and leap with an eerie energy. Tendrils seemed to reach out from underneath the wooden door. Mikael moved desperately to allow himself up into a sitting position. The boy managed to move himself up into a halfway-seated position. His eyes widened slightly as a tall man made his way into his room. The darkness seemed to reach out from the man. His eyes were wide with fear as the world seemed to distort as if reality itself was twisting itself around him. The walls of his room rippled like water. The man was clad in white a cross hanging across his neck.

A smile..... Mikael swallowed thickly eyes widening ever so slightly. A smile that was far too large to be normal. Everything around him seemed to fuzz out around him, and yet that smile remained crystal clear. Mikael wanted to open his mouth and scream, and yet he found that he couldn't move. "Do not be afraid brother." The candle that sat near his bedside flickered quickly, and the boy could not help but fear that the candle would be snuffed out. Colors bled together, like running paint, mocking all sense of logic and reasoning. "It is as if my vision has been renewed." The candle flickered out and the world was plunged into darkness, and yet he was still aware.

Mikael blinked slowly his vision readjusting to see his father looking at him from across the table. His hair was neatly pulled back, and his suit was recently cleaned. A pointed look sat upon his face spelling out that he had done something to upset his Father.

"Mikael if you can't be respectful to our guests-" his Father started.

"No worries Øistein."

"You just have a lot that goes on in your head. Don't you, Mikael?"

The silence stretches far too long before he nods awkwardly his gaze dropping down to his lap.

"Well anyways, I wanted to offer you both an opportunity." The man spoke his face still stretched thin but the grin he wore. However, any chance of explaining seemed to go out the window as his Mother ran into the dining room. Despite her neat clothes, her hair was all a mess, running in chaotic riblets down her back, and her face was red with anger.

"Get out!" She snapped as she moved towards the table. Hands wrapping around him like a vice. A white snake that tightened its hold around him. Suffocating. Pulling him in close in a tight embrace. An arm wrapped around his chest and the other rested across his collarbone. The smell of her perfume permeated the air. Her hair spilled across his shoulders. It had always been so long. When he had been younger he had wished he had been born with her lovely blond hair The boy's eyes widened as he felt himself almost get ripped backwards.

"Get out of my house"

"Out!"

"I said get out!"

The world seemed to collapse around him throwing him back into the darkness. Mikael blinked slowly his brows throwing as his gaze met with a strange man looking over him. Dusty brown hair and dark honey eyes that held a surprised look. Mikael sat up quickly, only to make it not even halfway before he collapsed back down. His brows furrowed in concern as he looked up at the older man. "Ah please take it easy. You have a fever." The man quickly spoke his sad eyes staring at him with concern. Mikael slowly relaxed back down on the bed staring up at the man with a fixed confusion. The brown-haired man pulled out a metal-looking device placing it against his chest. "I'm a traveling physician." The man spoke plainly.

Mikael blinked at the man with a guarded look the silence between them hung like a shroud. The doctor gave him a stern look that seemed to try and stare through past his eyes and into his head. As if the other could crack him open like a book. The man's steely eyes softened as he looked at him with confusion. "Why were you out there Mikael?" The doctor repeated. Mikael turned away slightly looking outside towards the fog-stained glass. "It's too cold to be out there that long. You're lucky your father found you when he did..." The older man continued.

The boy gripped onto his bed sheets his brows turning and twisting as he tried to find his words. It still seemed so surreal. What he had uncovered, and yet it was almost like a dream. Did he really see what lay within the old shed? Or had it all been a fever dream induced by the harsh climate of his home? The boy swallowed thickly before turning back towards the doctor. "Did he say anything?" he asked blankly. His brows were drawn in an ever-pained expression.

The man's brows furrowed ever so slightly. Something almost missed, if he had blinked he would have missed it. His steely eyes stared down at him as if trying to peel back the layers of his mind slowly. If only he knew he wasn't the first to try. Mikael stared up with a blank but vaguely determined look. "He wanted me to evaluate you." the man finally spoke after a moment. Lips pursed together as he turned to grab something from the ground. The answer left no answers, and only questions were left to brew silently in the boy's mind.

Mikael blinked his gaze flicking down from the man's face to a bottle in his hand. "Here drink this." The man spoke as he uncorked the bottle and held it up to him. His mouth felt dry as he stared at the man with a confused look. "What is it?" he asked slowly. Concern spilled into his limbs as adrenaline made his bones ache forward. "It will help you rest." the man spoke bluntly. "You seemed to be having nightmares earlier." he added upon the continued apprehension in the boy's eyes.

Nightmares. When had he slept with none to haunt his every dream? Since his Mother had died? Since the being? His mind drifted to the foggy memories. Hidden behind shrouds of cloth and linen. Wrapping around and suffocating the life that clung to him. His mouth agape as he screamed for help. He could not remember peace. For maybe there never was peace. Even when his Mother had been alive, had her face not bared the guilt of an unknown force? Mikael swallowed thickly as he took the vial from the doctor looking back toward him. "Will you be here when I wake?" he asked slowly. His voice was timid and weak like a child who had come to find out there were greater monsters out there than the ones under his bed. "No, but I will let you're Father know he should check on you periodically." he said. His tone was neither warm nor cold.

Mikael would down the potion, the bitter medicinal taste making his lips turn in slightly. Leaning back onto his pillow he would stare at the doctor as he watched the man collect his things. A frown rested upon his face as he looked toward the ceiling. His eyes fluttered as the ocean whisked him away. For all waves were to be reclaimed. Mikael would sigh out the tension falling from his face as he fell into a slumber. Memories of his Mother's golden hair would flicker in and out. The smell of ocean spray in his nose, the warmth of the sun on his skin, and a white picnic blanket beneath his feet. And without his knowledge, the boy would smile.
