Magical Masquerade: The entrance
All of Valentin’s years of devotion and arduous training for observational power ended up meaning very little when looking for the key amongst the daffodils. It just so happened that, at this moment in time, even a boy born to spot shiny metal objects could be overcome with such powerful distraction as to render him functionally on another planet. It was not every day that Val got to ride in on the shoulders of the great bear called Romeo, and as Valentin’s heart raced, so did his mind. As if trying to take in and permanently absorb every detail of the moment, Valentin fell into a state of hyperstimulation that further drove him to silence. It was one of the risks of being a highly sensitive person who experienced the universe intensely, as if chugging sensation and emotion as pure moonshine on the daily. All things considered, Durmstrang’s champion maintained excellent coping mechanisms, but every once in a while the raw lightning in his veins could overload his mental circuitry when meeting the right catalyst. If Romeo Marchonné could be called the greatest source of Valentin’s strength, so could he be called Valya’s greatest weakness.
With a pleasant hum, Romeo turned his face up towards Val’s with a smile that nearly melted the pale seeker right off his perch. It was prudent indeed for the Italian to keep hold of Valentin’s ankles, as the seeker swayed more punch-drunk now than he ever had on a broom, even after being clubbed nearly to death by zealous beaters. Grasping the tops of Romeo’s coat epaulettes tenderly, not fraying even a single coil, Valentin held on more for Piérre’s sake than his own. He wanted the warm cluster of feathers in his hair to have a comfortable and safe haven there, and so it would be.
Valentin had no capacity to harbor a grudge against Piérre even after the Amortentia incident, having wholeheartedly forgiven the jester by the end of the twins’ violent confrontation without a second thought. Even if the Turk hadn’t already considered Piérre close enough to be family already, it simply wasn’t in Valya’s nature to hold onto ill will. Similarly, regardless of Figaro being a cat (which Valentin already adored by default), Val had already forgiven the Bengal within a split second of understanding why he’d mangled Romeo’s ear. Thus, pains of the past had no bearing on Valya’s concern for Piérre now, and it was only with his most open heart that he could sense the other’s pain now. Reuniting with the smaller twin made it immediately clear that times had not been kind to him at Hogwarts. There was a palpable despair and a whiff of rot to Piérre now, but from below these still emerged a beautiful candor to Piérre’s self-expression that could only be called total humility. It was such qualities about the emerald-eyed boy that Valentin loved most, but it was not yet time to discuss such issues. For now Valya hoped to warm the little bird that clung to him, deeply burrowed with heavy torpor into pure white hair. Just now, all Valentin could do was give him a sense of peace and security, treating him with nothing but love until the right moment emerged for reaching towards Piérre’s inner poison.
Fluttering his white eyelashes as he leaned forward, Valentin found his balance again on Romeo’s shoulders. Even as Rome's Mediterranean blue eyes turned away, that smile was still burned into Valentin’s mind. He doubted he would ever forget it, just as he'd committed so many years of Romeo’s life to memory frames. A memory extraction expert could spend days trying to fill a Pensieve massive enough to hold all of Valentin’s cherished moments. The sheer quantity of details the seeker retained was not just the product of a sharp intellect, but also of a powerful love for each one. From the sound made by the Italian longsword clinking as Romeo walked to the precise shade of his sash, and from Piérre’s sweet hummingbird tswee! to the fluttering tickle across his ear, such minutiae added like grains of sand into the sprawling dune sea of Valya’s mind.
A brief raise of Romeo’s brow at the daffodils’ aggressive honking drew Valentin’s notice, and the captain recalled how his co-captain tended to collect scars when visiting Hogwarts balls. Wondering momentarily if Romeo got any new markings last time when trying to save students from drowners, Valentin winced. He’d successfully put the Great Lake and its water spirits out of his mind for a few happy moments before the memories rushed back in like the bursting of a crudely repaired dam. Grindylows, dangerous and self-interested just like the seductive lake monsters Sergei kept lecturing him about… Valentin’s once-pink cheeks paled at this thought that kept him up at night in sick spirals. What was that “boy” that had drawn Mikael into the dark waters but “mysteriously vanished” before Valentin could see him, which surely would have killed him had Valentin not found him? Was it the same creature as what Sergei accused Valentin of falling victim to? What would have happened if Romeo hadn’t come to the bottom of the lake during the last ball, finding Valentin wasting away at the bottom like a starving ascetic? That lake, that cursed lake, was not far from here. Was Mikael drowning in it now? How dare Valentin be here, smiling and casually reveling in the company of others when his ring brother could be finding the watery grave he’d nearly succumbed to before? It’s just too selfish of me, to have come here with Romeo without ensuring Mishka never left my sight. Where are you, Misha? Are you alive? Don’t follow your mother’s path… Have I failed you, just as I… No, stop. I have to stop this… With an increasing sense of panic, Valentin’s eyes darted across the crowd, but it would not be Mikael he found.
"NIIIFFFYYYYYY!" came a cry as Greta Fransson, darling of Durmstrang and the Valkyrie terror of the skies, came rushing into view. If there was anyone to alleviate a modicum of Val’s existential dread at being separated from Mikael now, it was surely the burning ball of sunshine named Greta. Dressed in an ethereal, diaphanous gown, the girl soon arrived at the base of the towering mountain of Durmstrangs looking more beautiful than ever. Blinking with pleasant shock, Valentin realized the young woman was indeed coming into her own with this beautiful new style, although he would always love the fervor of her quidditch-time war paint and her effervescent cuteness.
"I wonder how much spin energy you can get out of it," remarked Romeo, bringing a faint smile back to Valentin’s face. Oh yes, Val wanted to see her give that big billowing tulle cloud a whirl. "What do you think, Val? Is the Valkyrie just as killing in formal as she is on the pitch?"
A bit dazzled by the seemingly effortless grace, Valentin blinked once, slowly. It didn’t matter that Val wasn’t into girls, as this kind of beauty transcended such things. His lips parted as if to speak, but only a contented sigh escaped them. As he gazed into the colors swirling through the gown, Valentin’s right hand passed affectionately through a swath of Romeo’s reddish hair, his face glowing with serenity, until his fingertips came to rest at the base of the boy’s collar and he realized what he had inadvertently done. In a flash, Valentin’s face flooded with red hot blushing and alarm. Oops.
Valik, you can’t do that! he chided himself. What on Earth are you doing!? How many times have we… you can’t have him. It can never be. Stop this; you must stop. You know he won’t allow himself. Don’t hurt him any more than you have already. The seeker’s lavender eyes fluttered with a bashful flurry of white eyelashes.
“A-ah-mm, yes. She is so radiant it’s dangerous. She could break many hearts, and someone could walk right off a cliff while distracted by such a lovely countenance.” Smiling back at Greta with a watercolor mixture of embarrassment and adoration, it would still be obvious to anyone that the captain truly adored their little Valkyrie. Like Romeo, Valentin would fight to the bitter end if anyone dared cross her again, as a foolish Koldovstoretz once did. Greta went on to ask about the gates being closed, and Romeo answered sufficiently for the both of them. Breathing out, Valentin rubbed the sand from his eyes to collect himself. Then, as the seeker looked back down, the adorable pouting of the girl struck him precisely in the heart. Oh yes, her accuracy was not limited only to her wielding of the quaffle.
"Niffy, that's really not fair. You two are already too tall as it is. Come down? Please?"
Turning his face to the side with a shy grin, Valentin couldn’t say no to such overpowered charm from a dear one. Surely taking one leg away from his triple self-reassurance strategy couldn’t backfire when the joyous company of his friends could compensate.
"... Well, what do you think, Val? Should I let you down or do we want to add her to the Tower of Romeo instead? Maybe we can reach three meters by the end of the night. Is the air fresher up there?"
“Yes, yes, and yes.” With an amused chirp, Valentin flicked his eyes to the golden ribbons that were clearly a special accent to Greta’s ensemble. Then, using the gentle touch he'd trained with such precision as to not make even the most fussy snidget uncomfortable, Valentin’s seeker hand excavated the jewel-like hummingbird from his mane of white hair. Shielding the tiny bird with his long overarching fingers and backed by his fist, Valentin made sure no harm could come to Piérre as the seeker leapt from their high nest and flew at Greta with a ballistic hug attack. Squeezing the girl with a nuzzle and a purr, Valentin then stepped back once and looked her over. Spotting the securest possible fold of Greta’s hair, Valentin opened his palm to reveal the gorgeous gem of a hummingbird that was Piérre. “Uccellino, could you please hold onto Greta at the new top of our totem pole? I’ll hold her up, and it will be safer for you up there.” Extending his hand to raise the glittery bauble bird up towards the girl’s long blonde locks, Valentin grinned. “Also, I know just what else would complete your outfit.”
Extracting his wand, Valentin waved a key-shaped movement through the air and sighed out with crystal clear enunciation, “Orchideous.” If the spell succeeded, Val would manifest a handful of sweet-smelling Tatarian honeysuckle and pure white arbutus flowers. As a Russian, Valentin would only create odd-numbered assortments, knowing better than to give an even-numbered flower arrangement to the living. Once Piérre was firmly secured, Valentin then laced the ribbons of each side of Greta’s mask with a trailing sprig of the honeysuckle [in the color of Greta’s IC choosing]. “These are from my homeland, to complement your sweet disposition.” Placing a third sprig of the vibrant flowers into Greta’s hands, Valentin’s smile softened with gentle warmth. “You can decide about where you want this one, mm?” Looking over to where Piérre had ended up, Valentin’s eyes narrowed with an amused smirk. “Be good, but feel free to enjoy the nectar snack.
Then (still assuming the spell succeeds), Valentin turned back to Romeo to admire his two-tone rose boutonniere before tucking three blossoms of arbutus into the arrangement. The five petals of each flower seemed to be exploding outward in the form of pure white stars. Glancing up at the tall boy, Valentin’s eyes glimmered with only a subtle teary sheen. He looked almost as if he were wishing for something, but only a legilimens could know precisely what the boy was thinking at the moment. Still, a luminous happiness seemed to glow from within the cracked ceramic effect of his “mask.” Inside the darker, broken-off shard of his face, if one looked closely enough, one could see what looked like a shooting star among the starry tendrils of nebula. Turning away, Valentin returned to Greta’s side and kneeled, as if he were a knight in the service of their queen.
“M’lady, if you would please take a seat on my shoulders, I’d wager that Romeo could pick all three of us up at the same time. Wouldn’t that be a sight to see?”
If Greta climbed on, Valentin would then stand and turn back towards Romeo with one of those challenging grins he wore during their spiciest days of quidditch training. Holding onto Greta’s calves tightly, Valentin was not about to let go, but he wanted the world to see the flex of just how strong Romeo had come to be.

Magical Masquerade: The entrance
Interacting with Phelan Emile, open
none Mentioning
Matilde was very excited about the magical masquerade. Friends, costumes and of course dancing, what could be more fun? She wasn’t technically going to the ball ‘with’ anyone, but she didn’t care in the slightest. Though she didn’t mind her friends giggling about those they thought cute, and hoping someone asked them to the ball, she personally wasn’t very interested. She planned to spend as much time as possible with her friend Phelan before he had to go back to school, anyway.
Wanting to have plenty of time to get ready, Matilde headed up to her dorm mid afternoon. There was already a flurry of activity as the girls of Plant Palace dressed and chatted. She carefully opened the box she had set on her bed earlier. It had arrived last week from home. She carefully removed the lid, and gently folded back the tissue paper. She again admired the green tulle. She had gotten to pick out the fabric for her dress over the break, and then handed it off to her mother to sew it for her. They had made the mask together. Matilde smiled fondly at the memory. She had decided to wear her favorite pair of tall, green boots, rather than getting fancy with footwear, as they matched her dress well. To complete her outfit, she pulled out the green cape her mother had made her as a surprise. It appeared light and thin, but it was enchanted keep the wearer warm. She loved it very much.
Next was her hair. Matilde didn’t have much experience with balls, so at first she wasn’t sure what to do with it. She ended up putting it into an simple but elegant braid and an abundance of pins. She didn’t have any hairspray, but she knew well from Irish dance that some pins can go a long way. The only thing left to do was makeup. Matilde felt giddy at the thought. Along with the dress, Matilde’s mother had sent a small tin of eyeshadow, pale green and shimmery, and some mascara. Matilde had been pleasantly surprised, to tell the truth. Her mother didn’t let her wear makeup, and though Matilde hadn’t expressed much interest yet, it was still exciting. Looking in the mirror beside her bed, she smiled happily at her reflection. She was forgetting something. Rummaging in her trunk, she pulled out the little green purse she had been planning on bringing with her. It had been her grandmother’s, and it was perfect for the occasion. She dropped a few things inside that she might need. Now she was ready.
Matilde trotted down stairs and then through the door to the common room, stopping at the stairs to the Great Hall, where she had agreed to meet her friend. He was already waiting for her, she watched him gaze into the hourglasses, apparently lost in thought. Suddenly he looked up, directly at her, as if somehow sensing her there. She grinned, and skipped down to meet him. “Hi! You look nice,” she said, admiring his dapper outfit.
“So do you,” he returned, “like a fairie.”
Matilde did a little twirl in place. “Thanks! Ready to head down then?” Phelan nodded, though a bit unenthusiastically, she noticed. “Oh come on, it’ll be fun,” she said, and grabbing his wrist, dragged him good naturedly out to the quidditch pitch.
It seemed they were a little late. No matter, Matilde was sure there was plenty more searching fun to be had.
“You’re the flower expert. We’ve got to look in the roses, right?” Matilde asked Phelan, as she heard the second clue. As she looked around to see who else was here so far, Matilde waited for him to answer.

However, it didn't last long when she looked back at him. Linda noticed the way he looked at her, seemingly lost in h3r eyes just like she got some seconds ago. Well, at least she wasn't the only one, maybe he wouldn't notice?
She listened to him introducing himself and found that she already was starting to understand a little bit from French. Just a tiny bit, since it wasn't hard to figure out what "sorry" meant. She knew he pronounced her name differently, but there was something about it that made her like it even more. Nice to meet you, Quentin.
She felt intrigued by the mask that even though she could probably laugh or feel awkward at the way he said that her dress is red before correcting himself, she didn't react. Wrestling? Did you do it yourself? She blushed a little hearing his compliment. Thank you. She smiled happily with her eyes shining.
She found herself even more happy when she heard he would join her. But why did it make her so excited like if he would say no, she'd feel so sad? That was confusing, but Linda decided to not think about it for now. I'm in second year, Gryffindor. What year are you in? She knew he was most likely a little bit older than her. But it was still interesting to know about it from him.

Open to interactions from others River has interacted with IC, please owl me if you wish to interact with her but have not done so before"A dove," was Lin's answer. River thought of it for a few moments, deciding the animal did indeed suit the Gryffindor girl. Freedom and peace, such wonderful things that the blond had brought with her, shared with River from that singular chance meeting in the rehearsal room. River heard the notes of Yesterday play in the back of her head as she looked over at her grinning friend.
She could see the appeal of being able to fly, abandoning your worries and responsibilities to the earth below and simply soaring through the air with only the wind at your fingertips, or wingtips I suppose.
River could already imagine flying above the treetops alongside Jörmungandr and the other occamies. Well, now that she thought of it, she had actually done that before, with one of the older occamies, although it was rather more on top of the larger-sized serpent than along with him. Nearly gave her mother a heart attack with that stunt, especially since she had only been 8 at the time. thinking of that day, she remembered how the wind blew her normally neat hair into disarray, how she giggled delightedly as they had gone higher and higher. She could hear her mother's frantic shouting from meters below and felt how tight her hug had been once the girl had been back on solid ground.
She did the same thing a week later.
Past escapades aside, River returned back to the moment at hand and smiled at her friend, "Yes, that would suit you quite well I believe."

Basil looked around and saw a beautiful girl with the most amazing eyes ever.
"Devon!" He said happily. Basil stood so he could have balance.
"Feel free to topple into my arms now!" he said, giggling. Out of the courner of his eye he saw a girl pick up a box that was obviously part of the search.
"Hey look! Maybe she has the key!" Basil said, pointing at the girl. Basil grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the girl as she started seaching the bushes. Basil looked at the note and read, sadly, another clue. Basil squeezed Devon's hand.
"I think it is a hunt of some sort." Basil said, turning to her. The next clue was about blood or something. Blood of a goddess,
Turned its petals red.
Tears made her a mess,
Her lover now dead. Does that mean the myth with Aphrodite? And her lover? I remember reading about it in a book. Basil thought his hopes to finding a clue soaring. Basil turned to his lovely date.
"Hey Devon, how about we search in the rose bushes. Feel free to fall into my arms now though." Basil giggled then realized he was still holding her hand. He didn't drop it. Basil looked at Devon again.
"You look really... nice." was all Basil could think to say. Her purple dress made him sigh with happiness and her hair... It looked nice in pigtails. They were different from the usual space buns but Basil thought they looked really cute on her. Of course, Basil would think Devon to be cute if she had just spent a week in the wilderness with no shower and lots of smelly dirt and mud. Basil smiled lovingly at Devon. I am so lucky to have her! I hope she thinks she is lucky to have me as well. Basil thought.

Devon giggled, pretending to gently fall into his arms. “I love that joke by the way. I think it was cute we met involving falling,” she giggled.
Hearing Basil mention the key, which she completely forgot about due to the distracting boy next to her; Devon’s green eyes grew wide. “Cool!” She replied. Her cheeks flushed lightly, when Basil took her hand. She didn’t say anything and made no attempt to retract her hand. ‘I’ve wanted hand-holding, too. Nice,’ she thought.
Devon stayed silent, letting the new clue turn over in her brain a few times. Goddess. Red. Tears. Lover turning up dead. It sounded like Aphrodite from a book she read previously, which meant another type of flower to search: roses.
Hearing Basil come to the same conclusion, Devon giggled and nodded. “I completely agree.” She giggled again at Basil’s comment about falling into his arms. “I’d love to do it properly. Maybe later … when we don’t have so many other students around us? I can … casually trip,” she giggled.
Still feeling his hand in hers, Devon’s green eyes rested on their hands for a second. She took the opportunity to interlace their fingers, happy to hold his hand. She looked back up and flushed at his compliment. “Thank you,” she smiled brightly. “You look really nice, too. I like your outfit,” she complimented him.
Giggling nervously, Devon looked around briefly. She noticed a very familiar figure searching the honking daffodils. Clearing her throat gently, she quickly addressed her best friend. “Hi Alice!” She smiled brightly. “Would you like to help us look for the second key?” She asked, as she slowly walked over to the rose bush. Not wanting to let go of Basil’s hand, she searched the rose bush with her free hand. 'I like being with Basil like this ... I hope we get more opportunities like this in the future. I think he's cool to be around.'Reducio

As Zach raised his wand and began uttering the incantation for his spell, a sudden crack of red light illuminated the ball like lightning, causing Zach's wand to fly from his hand and land in the dirt. His assailant, Raizel, had effortlessly disarmed him with a graceful flick of her wand.
Simultaneously, another student, Alyssa Brown, cast the Take Root spell, uttering "Anathema Daphnis." Zach immediately felt the ends of his feet beginning to transfigure, as if sinking into the ground, his skin turning as hard as bark and rooting him in place like a plant.

In the midst of the red roses, Mahlioz Evethisawe discovered a small ornate box, strikingly similar to the first. Upon opening it, an enchanted parchment flew out, hovering in the air. It was a Howler, its voice booming with the next clue so everyone could hear.
The serene white of these plants
Are used to adorn the garden spread

Around a lady's neck
The box contains the same sweets as the first box, including Fainting Fancies, crafted by Fred and George and sold in their shop. These candies induce fainting if bitten on one side but revive you if chewed on the other. Nosebleed Nougats are also present, causing nosebleeds on one side and restoring your nose on the other. Lastly, there are Puking Pastilles, which induce vomiting on one end but offer relief on the other. Additionally, there are Exploding Bonbons that, when popped into your mouth, explode harmlessly, leaving you annoyed at being tricked.
-
Valentin's wand emitted a small puff of smoke followed by a pathetic whimper. For several seconds, there was silence, until suddenly a handful of sweet-smelling Tatarian honeysuckle and pure white arbutus flowers sprouted from the tip of his wand as intended. For a moment, they were beautiful and mesmerizing. Then, without warning, the honeysuckle emitted a wheeze as if alive, and thick pollen blew out of its bulbs, enveloping Piérre and Greta in a dense miasma.
The surprise from the conjured Arbutus was even worse. From within the bouquet's leaves emanated a buzzing sound, growing louder with every passing moment until four or five bees broke free into the air. Immediately agitated, they darted for Romeo in attack mode.

Magical Masquerade: The entrance

She wasn’t going to attend. Costanza didn’t want to be anywhere near the festivities of the night. As far as she was concerned, these biannual balls were just Hogwarts’ way of trying to rope her in. The egocentric entity within her theorized that this year’s balls were made especially fancy for no one but her. Some staff had heard she took zero pleasures from being trapped in school, so they were ready to put on a show. Ready to tell her why she should let go of her silly problems and embrace being a witch. As if. She would never give her birthers the satisfaction of seeing her happy.
So why was Costanza on her way to the broom sport training pitch then? If you asked her, she would tell you that she just wanted to take a walk. It wasn’t her fault that her damn feet refused to stop walking in the direction of the pitch. She wanted to take a walk around the school entrance, actually. But it was obviously the demons present in the school that possessed her, moving her body towards the pitch. The shadows that called night home wanted to see Costanza suffer. Yes, that had to be it.
She walked into the pitch, forcing herself to stay un-mesmerized by the beauty of the trees that formed the pathway to what she assumed was a locked door. A pang in her chest told her that she would have loved this sort of thing two years ago. But there was a constant war within her head, neurons fighting to remind her of the reason why she was a different person now. Costanza would take no pleasure from this farce.
Then she got closer and was greeted by the image of girls in their pretty dresses and boys in their suits, all on their hands and knees, digging around rose bushes. She brought her palm to her mouth, stifling a laugh. It was hilarious seeing them work so hard to enter the ball. Walking a little further onto the path, she noticed the clues left by the organizers and panned back to the eager crowd of students who hunted diligently for the key. Even if she was in a big dress, donned in excitement to attend the ball, no one could even pay her to hunt for clues like this.
Being fashionably late was in Costanza's favor as a loud voice suddenly erupted, spewing four lines that was undoubtedly another clue. She craned her neck to the source and spotted a letter speaking. Was that a Howler? She'd heard the term but never seen one in action. And she surely didn't think they could be used to spout clues for a scavenger hunt. But the witch listened closely, understanding that the last two lines referred to pearls.
As far as she could see, there were four different types of white flowers along the pathway, two of which were arranged in a spherical formation that could resemble pearls. How were the students supposed to know which one was the right one? Perhaps one of the flower species had 'pearl' in its name? She wasn't an expert at gardens or flowers to know the common names for all these plants, so she sidled to the edge of the pathway where some others were watching on and joined them in standing around.
Thus, the honey badger had found her entertainment for the night. Costanza didn’t know how long this absurdity would last, but she was quite keen to see where things went. She imagined a world where no one was able to find the key and the night had to be cancelled. Oh, that would be hysterical scene. She couldn't miss that.

Are used to adorn the garden spread
Like an oysters treasure, strung into a necklace
Around a lady's neck"
After pondering the clue given by the suddenly appearing howler, River turned to her friend, "It's a pearlbush I believe, pearls are found in oysters and are typically made into jewelry such as necklaces. Let's search over there." She ignored the spells that had been thrown around, rather going to search for the next clue. She admired the pearl-like blossoms as she kneeled carefully near the bush she had chosen. She turned to her friend who had shuffled over to her, "How many more clues do you think there will be before we are allowed to enter the ball? I hope it won't be much longer, I am starting to feel rather peckish at the moment."
She had been so excited to prepare for the ball after parting ways from Malin at the rehearsal room, that she had completely skipped out on having lunch. She was starting to very much regret that decision.
I hope this can end within an hour at the very least, it would rather embarrassing if my stomach started roaring louder than a dragon on a warpath.
River hid her hunger behind her usual cold and indifferent mask, although it was a much warmer version, as she did not want to make Lin think that she was bored or uninterested in continuing to converse with the blonde girl.
