Emily felt better after Emmanuel reassured her in that moment. Emily was never alone back home, but she was never the one to bring friends together. She was always the one that had to rely on others to welcome her just so that could be a part of a group. It was clear as day now to her that it wasn't the case with Emmanuel, and she couldn't be any more grateful for that. Now that she thought about it, she was grateful to Emmanuel for a lot of things. The list just kept growing...!

Emily held on to the treasured ribbon thoughtfully. "I owe not just you, but Miss Chica my thanks for this ribbon." She tied it neatly around the cuff of her sleeve, safely under her robes. She saw the colour in Emmanuel's cheeks turn darker and couldn't help but giggle quietly at the sight. He had nothing to feel embarrassed for after all.

"It's flattering to hear you say that by the way...about me" she chuckled shyly. All of a sudden, Emily felt a little flustered as well.

"Though I never expected Ravenclaw to sound so uptight as you've described." Emily was quite surprised at the revelation. She would sometimes see Emmanuel in passing chatting with a few of his associates from Ravenclaw, overhearing tidbits of banter and conversations as they passed each other in the corridor. Perhaps Emily simply misread it as nothing more than casual small talk? She knew all about the feeling with how she'd been interacting with the other Hufflepuffs in her year.

She could see the hint of regret in Emmanuel's expression about how little time they've been spending together. Emily couldn't blame him. They were in two different Houses in mostly different classes and were thus at different places in different times. Emily gave an optimistic smirk as she shuffled closer to him in her seat.

"Don't apologise. I'm very much in the same boat. I also figured that you seemed to be getting along well with everyone else I assumed that you... didn't really need to spend time with me." Emily had no good reason for that last part and laughed it off nervously. Then again, with how sociable Emmanuel is, it would make sense that maybe he better spent his time with people who were more... appropriate. Not Muggle-born, for example, she thought.

Emily was happy for Emmanuel all the same though. "So long as we're happy, it can't be so bad," She finished optimistically.

Em noticed right away that Emily moved a bit closer to him. His chest tightened, and he moved a bit closer to her in return; sitting on the edge of his seat. He looked at Emily as she spoke, grateful that she was understanding of his reclusiveness.

It struck him as odd that her perspective was that he was so social. He gave an astonished smile, thinking it was nice that he kept up appearances despite feeling that all he did was keep his nose in his textbooks.

The truth was that he had indeed made a few friends. Though, he wondered if they felt a bit ignored since he had been far more focused on school work. Maybe it was time that he shifted his priorities.

As he thought, the wind’s rasp clashed against the windows. The one with the broken latch rattled noisily in the background. He let out a little sigh, deciding that focusing on studying would be distinctly against how he was currently feeling. He turned towards his bag, and shoved the textbook he was carrying into it. He would use it for later. While in his bag, he pulled out a little folded picture he had kept in his bag since he packed it at home.

The picture was of him, young and chubby cheeked. About a year and an half old. His hazel eyes looked more green, and he was wearing a baggy red shirt, only over his nappy. His hand was being held by an ape looking creature. She had big blue eyes, and was covered in long silver and white hair. Her pink ears poked out of either side of her head, round and frankly cute. She was helping baby Emmanuel walk down a hallway, the picture depicting only a few steps, Em laughing, and the maternal behavior Chica was famous for since he was born.

Em handed the photo to Emily, a small smile on his face. “I haven’t really shown anyone this before, but this is Chica. I think she’d really like you,” he complimented. “She’s my oldest friend, and she was always around. I never needed to work to connect with her. I think maybe that’s why I’m bad at reaching out, but look comfortable when around people I don’t really know.”

He let out a bit of a nervous laugh. Most of the people he talked with he either maintained only transactional relationships with, exchanging notes and studying. None of them, at least so far, were as profound as his friendship with Emily.

Emily watched as Emmanuel went into his bag and lifted out a carefully packed photo. He placed it under her gaze where she could look at it closely. It was a nice photo; a little toddler with the happiest look ever in the world alongside an adorable-looking creature with long silver hair and big black eyes. It was almost like a mix between a sloth and an ape. Emily couldn't help but stare in awe. It was a very heart-warming photo.

"Aww... She's lovely. And you look so cute there too...!" The photo really was the literal definition of "picture perfect." With all the similarities that Emmanuel and Emily shared, this photo seemed to only add to that list of coincidences.

"Chica sounds a lot like Auntie. She's certainly got the same kind of patient and caring nature as Auntie does, going by this picture alone." Emily carefully handed the picture back to Emmanuel. "Auntie always taught me that sometimes, all it takes to win someone over is to just give a friendly smile. And sometimes, it takes a bit of time before people realise just how amazing you are. You just have to be patient. Good things always comes to those who wait, after all."

She gave him a playful nudge on the shoulder. "I mean, look at us... All it took for us was a laugh or two together and now we're good friends!"

She hoped that was enough to convince Emmanuel of how brilliant he truly was. He and her were a lot alike, relying on books for company and waiting for friends to magically appear. After learning to reach out and embrace the unknown, Emily was hoping that Emmanuel could learn not to worry about keeping walls up. No matter what, however, Emily would be at his side.
