A young Griffindor girl, easily mistaken for a boy from the back because of her short hair, stood in the middle of the Owlery, looking around with mild fascination. After getting sorted and unpacking her things in the dormitory, the very first thing she did was rush to observe the owls.

Imogen Caird had always loved animals, big or small, since she was young. Growing up with two cats, she grew a fondness for all sorts of creatures, often taking injured animals she found on walks home and begging her parents to heal them with magic before releasing them back into the wild.

She observed as the birds fluttered in and out of the room, noticing the scattered feathers and droppings on the stone floor.

Imogen didn’t have an owl herself yet, but she hoped to soon. Pulling a letter out of her pocket, she coaxed one of the school’s owls over and gave it to him. She had promised to write her parents when she got to school safely. After giving the letter to the owl, she watched it fly away through one of the open windows, a small smile curling at her lips.

“You’re magnificent, aren’t you?” She cooed as another owl fluttered over, landing on her outstretched arm. Its sleek feathers were a beautiful oaky brown, and its big eyes peered at the girl curiously. After a minute or two, it flew back up to its perch, and Imogen let her arm drop back down to her side.

Giselle was walking to the owlery. She wanted to write a letter to her family about her first week at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, the best wizarding school there is.

Slowly, she stepped into the owlery. She did not have an owl yet. She longed for having one, but there just wasn’t enough money to afford it. Looking at all the different owls on cages, owls on wood benches, owls on stools… she selected a school barn owl, who cooed as it was lifted from its bench

She took a crumpled piece of parchment from her pocket. She wrote ‘Dear Family’ and paused. Then, she wrote about her hogwarts life, a great start of the Wizarding life ahead of her. Finally, she reread her letter.
Dear family, how are you? Hogwarts is very lovely. I am sorted into Hufflepuff, just like you! The hufflepuff common room was filled with smells of sumptuous foods, like pumpkin pasties, cauldron cakes, and many more! I have made many friends, they were kind and thoughtful!

Your darling,
Giselle
The barn owl waited patiently. When she had reread the letter and successfully tied it to the owl’s leg, Giselle watched it soar into the sky, high above the clouds, over the mountains and out of sight.

Elizabeth slowly walked up the owlery stairs, in a way scared of what could be up there. When she opened the door, she smiled. Why had she been scared of friendly owls?

Seeing nobody there, she assumed that her schoolmates had either already been there or were going to be there soon. Then she opened her letter to read it one more time before sending it off with a school owl.

Dear Mama and Papa, You must be proud to hear that I am in Ravenclaw. Not in Hufflepuff like Mama or in Gryffindor like Papa but in Ravenclaw. Everyone here is so fun and full of laughter from my point of view. Even so, I wish that you could be here with me to see everything going on. I love you so much. Yours, Elizabeth

Smiling to herself, she reclosed her letter and coaxed an owl to her. Attaching the letter to its leg, she sent it off with a gentle shove. Then she quickly exited the owlery and dashed down the stairs, eager to get back to her schoolwork.

In a few minutes, she bounded into the common room, up into the girls dormitory, snatched up her schoolwork, bounded back into the common room, and sat down at a table, ready for work.
