Masquerade Preparations
@Reginald Drake | April 12th
It was weird how used Theo was to being in England at this point. The thought crossed his mind as he entered the Great Hall and found an empty seat between some Hogwarts students, some with familiar but a lot more unfamiliar faces, a few sheets of paper and some scissors in his hands. Until he had started his first year at Ilvermorny, the young Thunderbird had never even really gotten out of Alaska, not to mention left the continent.
It was the curiosity of his siblings every summer that served as a bit of a reminder of how much of a change it was and how much he should be cherishing it. Spending most of the year with kids who had more financial means and had seen more of the world in their lives, it was easy to forget sometimes.
He had to write Anabelle an owl to keep her updated this time, or he was sure she would actually strangle him when he came home in summer.
But his time at Hogwarts just tended to be so eventful that it simply slipped his mind! Whether there was a big Quidditch game against another school, or a ball, or a camp, or whatever occasion the schools had found to come together, they tended to be way more exciting than anyone anticipated. That applied to the balls specifically, that seemed to literally go up in flames a lot. Not that this stopped him from going anyway, on the contrary, after he made a nice new friend last year, he would not miss out for sure!
... Fine, things had become a little awkward with this new friend, but that didn't have to be the case with every person he met, right?
If anything, it would become awkward for different reasons. Theo had noticed that he was one of the few, if not the only one to recycle his outfits. Somehow these kids seemed to have money to buy the most fantastic outfits twice a year, while he still showed up in his old shirt- that still looked fine, but was for sure not half as expensive as what the others wore. Now this year he had a bit of a problem- Theo didn't own a mask. He hadn't thought of bringing one and he didn't feel like running to Hogsmeade to quickly find something last minute.
Instead he was here, in the Great Hall, with a stack of paper and some scissors and began to cut out something that at least resembled a mask. He wasn't sure yet what he was going for, but maybe he could manage to make a papermask look at least somewhat cool and then just hope that it wouldn't rain that night.

Masquerade Preparations
@Opeila WintersReginald Drake walked the halls of Hogwarts aimlessly these days. He had heard tall tales about the ball and what transpired the last few times an event like this had taken place, and in all honesty, the stories he heard were brilliant!
There was apparently fighting, magical creatures, and outdoor activities, and it just seemed so unlike the boring old routine he had gotten abhorrently used to in this castle. Dueling was fun, but he had such few chances to experience the thrill of a battle when he was on that damned waitlist! He had to find volunteers to sling spells with and that was a task in and of itself.
So, Reginald had decided that he would attend this ball and potentially get into interesting situations he'd be proud to tell people of once he graduated. That's why he's here, after all. To make potentially life-threatening memories that will live on far past him on the tongues of wide-eyed first years like he is today.
Now, of course, no one had told him that there was a certain dress code and more importantly, masks necessary for the event. He found this out after finally entering the great hall and laying eyes on a peculiar-looking student who was hunched over and cutting up pieces of paper with some scissors.
"Hey, sorry for the intrusion, but what are you doing over there?" Reginald said as he slid into the seat opposite the older boy, his sky-blue eyes shifting from scissor to person with a questioning gleam that promised retribution on all evil doers who failed to answer his questions.
"I mean, it looks cool, but what are you making exactly?" Reginald lied. The paper pigeons the boy was making did not look cool or well-made, but he has learned over his long life that telling people their work sucks up-front is a sure-fire way to destroy all chances of a friendship forming, and that's all he needs in life right now. Friends. And maybe enemies he has no qualms about setting on fire.
"Oh, my name is Reggie, by the way. Nice to meet you!" He said with a small smile as he slid his hand across the table and stole a paper from the batch that was being worked on, scrunching it up in elaborate ways as he looked at the other, expecting some kind of response while making a paper airplane that would soar across Hogwarts castle for eons to come!
Or so he thought.Word count: Something above 200.

Masquerade Preparations

@Reginald Drake
Theo wouldn't stay alone for long- sitting somewhere in public, doing something that didn't appear like a normal thing to do seemed to inevitably land a person with wanted or unwanted company eventually in this place. Theo lifted the "mask", which was barely more than a square sheet of paper with one hole in it in front of his face, looking at the young boy in front of him with one eye. "I am preparing for the ball. It's a masquerade, no?"
Theo winked and lowered the "mask" again. "I hope", he started, while continuing to cut another hole into it, "to be able to use this as a mask without looking like an idiot tomorrow. Which I probably will anyway." He shrugged, entirely unbothered by the thought and sent the younger boy a smirk. "They better appreciate the effort anyway, this is gonna be a one of a kind mask after all!"
The child reached across the table and took a sheet of paper off the pile next to him. When he started folding a paper plane out of it, Theo had to hold back a smile, reminded of the paperplane contests and debates about different models he had with his little brothers. This boy couldn't be much younger than them. "I'm Theo, I'm here with the Ilvermorny kids." He smiled back and slid another sheet of paper along with a pair of scissors across the table. "Here, maybe we can give each other a bit of inspiration. I'd say paper masks will attract way more attention than store bought ones!"
