Silence in the Library
Kaylee knew it. She wasn’t satisfied with her house. Too cunning to be Hufflepuff and a bit too ambitious to be Ravenclaw, although that was likely. Definitely more laid back than a Gryffindor, but Kaylee didn’t want to make assumptions again.
“Since I’ve already presumed that you would be in Slytherin, am I correct in assuming you were intending to join Slytherin, but the Sortingn Hat put you in “the wrong house”, and now you must understand the magic behind the Hat, so you can understand why it put you into Gryffindor?”, Kaylee asked innocently, “And in that case to what extent are you willing to become knowledgeable about the topic so you can know precisely why the Hat did put you in the house you reside in?”.
Kaylee felt the rising ambition and curiosity creeping in her voice. She cleared her throat and resumed.
“Only meaning you were that interested in learning all you can to any measures,”.
Maxwell looked horrified at the thought.
Kaylee sighed. Maxwell was to... gullible? Innocent? She was just unable to bring herself to do it, seeing as her house was not one of the ones about ambition or wisdom, more as bravery, and she admitted that was not one of her strong suits. And Kaylee knew very well Lucian wouldn’t go tell on a teacher. Not because of her pride, but she just didn’t seem like the kind of person that did that, so as long as the person didn’t get in way of her plans. But, there was still some chance she could, but statistically, it was slim.

Silence in the Library
Lucian chuckled at the girl's way of speaking; such a Ravenclaw, she used large words back to back, the context of which often seemed far too formal for a simple conversation in the library. As for her asking about her house preference, she wasn't quite sure how to respond. Typically, Lucian was quite good at coming up with skillful, cunning ways to dodge questions she didn't feel quite up to answering at the moment; however, her lack of sleep the past few nights here was really starting to catch up with her, causing her typically quick comebacks to be slow and insignificant.
"Slytherin would have been my house of choice." She spoke bluntly, incredibly careful not to let her tongue slip and let loose any information she didn't quite want out yet. "However, I'm finding Gryffindor to be quite the welcoming environment, and am sure there is a reason as to why I was placed here."
She glanced around the library, her tired eyes falling fast but forcing herself to stay alert; there was no room for error right now, or ever, in her plans for perfection.
"As for wanting to know what means I will go to to get that information, I'm quite afraid that is none of anyone's business. As I said to Max, its always important to be quite careful."

Kaylee thought about what the girl said. It was important to keep things to yourself, but Kaylee wasn't giving too much away, and Lucian couldn't use anything against her.
"I beg to differ. I believe you aren't being as careful as you believe. I've learned you wanted to be in Slytherin, but are easily adaptable to Gryffindor. I can tell you are curious about the ways of the Sorting Hat. None of these are interesting, of course, but in some cases this can be beguiling and vital to know. I can tell you are hiding and avoiding many things from the way you pause in your responses, but I don't really mind. I apologize about my tangent, but I think it's okay to not be careful.I know you just met us but I'm not one for canards, so feel free to make mistakes. And although I am a Ravenclaw I am very forgetful,", Kaylee said, giving Lucian a brief smile.
Kaylee had nothing to hide. She couldn't have cared less. She was just assuring the girl that no time soon Kaylee was going to be catty or tattle-tailing.
"On the other hand, if you are one of those who has many enemies or repugnant secrets, I would encourage being careful. I am not careful when I speak, so I have nothing to hide, but if I were to hear one of your "confidential" secrets, I may repeat it purely by accident, but the chances are unlikely. Again, we just met, and I don't expect you to say anything. But I feel it is unnecessary to be so secretive, no offense to you, of course,", Kaylee saw both sides of the equation, and wanted Lucian to know that.

Lucian was quite impressed with Kaylee's retaliation and felt inclined to tell her as such. Despite her family's warnings to never tell people when they had impressed you, Lucian found it to be quite helpful when not only attempting to make allies, but also to comfort those who may be wary of her intent.
"I must be frank, your honesty has quite impressed me. I'm sensing quite a great amount of intuition from you, something I find to be intriguing. It seems that we have been brought up in two quite different worlds, and I would like to know more about yours." She paused, keeping her intent to seem purely curiosity based. "All in due time, of course. I'm not one to jump into such conversation willy nilly."
Kaylee's mention of forgetfulness was something Lucian would remember and make note of; she, unlike the girl, did not suffer from forgetfulness, but quite the opposite. She was a collector of character, and had developed quite the knack for making mental notes, and recalling them when it was most important; a skill her father Blackwell and her brother Salem had taught her, in their respective ways. While her father had taught her this quite purposefully, testing her and honing her skills to the point of obsession, Salem did it quite naturally, teaching Lucian through his action, rather than through rigorous coursing.

Silence in the Library
Kaylee and Lucian where talking. For a long time. Like that long amount of time that makes you feel like you are being ignored. Thoughst raced through my head.
What if Kaylee won’t need me because she has Lucian.
What if Lucian doesn't like me and I just annoy her.
What if Kaylee doesn’t actually want to be my friend!
What if all Lucian is going to do is use us just to get what she wants!
whoa whoa whoa. Chill out Maxwell. They're not going to abandon you. Your not useless.
I thought about what me dad told me.
If your friends care about you, they won’t leave you.
That made me feel better. I know Kaylee wants to be my friend because she always talks to me. So I don’t think she will abandon me. And Lucian just met me so she needs to get to know me and everything will be okay. I will be able to stay friends with them. I gathered my breath and looked at the girls. I looked them over and classified them as drinks. Kaylee I feel would be lime sparkling water. Sometimes hard on the taste buds, but sometimes, just sometimes, someone comes around with the right taste buds and likes it. Lucian would be, well I don't really know yet, I don't know enough about her yet. I cleared my through. They looked at me.
"Uh, Hey guys. I'm still here!"

Silence in the Library
Lucian looked Maxwell over, making her observations; outwardly the girl seemed confident, outgoing, friendly, but on the inside, Lucian could nearly bet she was insecure and a chronic overthinker. No one that was fully confident in their relationships with others and confident in themselves would feel the need to announce that they were there, unless they were incredibly self-centered, which Lucian could tell Maxwell wasn't. She seemed quite sweet and down to earth, although perhaps a little immature for her liking. It was difficult for Lucian to find people in her year that she related to; after all, she was incredibly mature for her young age.
"Don't worry, we're aware." She snickered to herself, standing up from her chair and turning around the face the bookshelves, running a long finger over the spines of various books. "You can jump in whenever you have anything to add, standard rules of conversation." She said in a polite, informational tone. Although her words seemed harsh, they really weren't spoken that way at all; due to Lucian's eloquent way of speaking, she could say the cruelest words and someone would still believe she was just saying it to help them and make them better. However, she could spit poison if she wanted; Lucian had the talent of being incredibly cruel without conscience if she desired.

Of course Max wanted attention. Kaylee bit the inside of her cheek, which was a frequent habit, and exhaled out of her nose, smiling slightly in annoyance. She just came here to read. She didn't want this. Either way, she would have had to talk to someone anyways.
"Exactly. Your presence is welcome if you have something to enhance the conversation. Just- don't be..", Kaylee hesitated.
She didn't want her to be a geek. Yes, she too enjoyed fun conversations about Star Wars or Marvel. But not right now. She was trying to have an intelligent conversation, and Maxwell's lack of intelligent words made it hard to draw her in the discussion.
"Off-topic,", Kaylee cleared her throat and, dodging Lucian's eye, shot Maxwell a look.
"OF course, you can change the subject or add on with another topic, but derailing from the present, and in this case, interesting discussion can create frustration in myself, and since I don't know Lucian quite well yet, I'll say slightly amused and or annoyed. But...", Kaylee trailed off.
She was talking to much again. Kaylee tapped her foot to release some tension from her body. She hated sounding like a know-it-all. Kaylee retracted herself from the table and pretended to dig in her satchel.

Silence in the Library
Lucian looked between the two girls, attempting to stifle a snicker as she watched Kaylee's face begin to contort slightly, something one wouldn't notice had they not spent so many years studying human expression. She knew quite well the feeling Kaylee was describing, that of which originated from what could be taken as the ignorance of others. However, a part of her pitied Maxwell; after all, it was quite obvious that Kaylee and herself were far more mature than the other Gryffindor, who was just trying to fit in and make friends with whoever she could find. Lucian would never admit it, but she admired that; it was incredibly brave, to be able to go up to complete strangers and engage in conversation, seemingly with-holding nothing. Perhaps this girl was more apt to be in Gryffindor than she seemed to think.
"My apologies, Maxwell." Lucian bowed her head slightly, soaking her words in complete sincerity. "I believe Kaylee and I just became slightly overly interested in our conversation, is all. I didn't mean to exclude you, as I'm sure she didn't either." Lucian looked over at Kaylee slowly, giving her a look that said,
Control yourself.
She smiled complacently at the pair then, gesturing thoughtfully around the library. "There is far more here than just the enticements of the Restricted Section. What else do you girls enjoy reading about?" She smirked, sitting as far bak in her chair as she could. This was what Lucian liked to call, "collecting inventory". Noting what acquaintances found interesting, what they found pointless, etc. It helped her to dig deeper into them, although only through baseline, superficial questions, in order to keep guards down.
