It was decently warm on the grounds today. Autumn colours were starting to show, and the sky was an even grey-blue.
Felix was laying on his coat at the base of a tree trunk, reading a book on dragon species, holding it above his face. It was interesting, though he was mostly just enjoying the weather and the peace and quiet. Hopefully, the peace and quiet lasted, though that couldn't be certain.
The weekends at Hogwarts were nice. Felix spent some of the time finishing homework for his classes, but a lot of it he spent just chilling. Weekends used to be pretty busy at home, so he really liked the fact that he could just lay around much of the time on Saturdays and Sundays. He was also an extreme procrastinator, so even if he technically still had stuff to do, he would lay around anyway.
Felix had a bit of a bruise across his cheekbone, due to being hit in the face with a heavy book a couple nights ago. He hadn't done anything wrong (except break curfew), but he's knocked into a girl in the corridors, Leona, and her book hit him. He hadn't liked her much. She was too nosy, in his opinion. And he didn't particularly like random people grabbing his shoulder, which is exactly what she did.

Reading on the grounds
Leona kinda just wanted to read or walk around the Grounds. She wasn't really caring about the weather as much as most of the kids most likely were. Leona would never go outside much. She wasn't very active usually only going outside to read or walk her dog. But she wanted to see if she could see that boy again. What was his name? Felix? She thinks as she eventually finds a nice tree with lots of shade.
There was a boy sitting on the other side of the tree. Leona thought she had seen him before. She ignored him for a bit until she saw a bird sitting nearby. She really wanted to scare it off. The boy looked like he was just reading a book. Maybe she could scare off the pretty yellow bird (like she did all the time). She looked left then right then stopped to think about what some of the kids would think. They might yell at her or might not like her. They might even tease her if she scared it off. Leona just ignored the bird for a little while until it flew a bit and landed right next to her and chirped.
Leona couldn't handle it any more and stood up after sitting below the tree. She started to run after the yellow bird and it flew away.

Felix heard someone running, and turned his head to look. A girl was chasing a small... siskin? He thinks it is one. Upon closer inspection, the girl was Leona Cooper, the very one that hit him in the face with a book the other evening.
He decided to ignore her, and hope that she didn't come and say hi. He didn't really like that she was chasing the bird, but as long as she didn't bother him, he didn't want to get her attention in any way. He did give a little disapproving huff, though. He did that quite a bit, whenever someone did something that he considered dumb, pointless, and/or annoying. Right now, Leona was checking almost all of those boxes. So he huffed.
Felix had just reached the part of his book about the Hebridean Black dragon. It was pretty freaking awesome. Seriously cool. He wanted to see one when he was older. He probably never would, but he could hope, and plan, and dream. He usually wasn't one to set goals, but hey, new school, new year, new people, new Felix. Who knows? Maybe he will see one. If it's in the book, then it's in Britain or Ireland, so there's always a small little bit of chance, right?
He reached up to his face and felt the sore spot on his cheek. He was still pretty ticked off about that.

Leona noticed what the boy was reading when she sat and started to read. He was reading something about dragons it looked like. Leona doesn't believe in dragons at all. Maybe she could say hello? Or she could just ignore him. She thinks about how she hit him with her book. He might still be mad, it has only been 2 days maybe.
She looks at him again and slightly stands in front of him trying to hold her breath. She didn't make a noise until she couldn't stop herself. "Hi" Leona didn't even know she was saying it until a few seconds later. "I'm Leona, do you remember me? I hit you with the book. I'm so...so sorry for that, are you alright?" Leona watched as another bird flew next to her. It didn't chirp but it looked at her. Leona looked at Felix finally remembering his name. She did notice the way he looked when she chased the last bird. This one was almost like a crow.
Leona just ignored the bird and waited for Felix to answer, guessing that he would ignore her. She thought about all the classes she has had. Leona hated most of them but she loved a few. They were mostly very boring. Leona shakes herself out of her thoughts and stared at Felix still awaiting an answer.

"Yeah, I remember you. I'm fine. Just a bit bruised, though you can probably see that already." Felix looks up at her, putting his book down so that he doesn't drop it on his face. He's done that before when he was startled, and it sucked.
He adds "And why are you here? How 'bout you find your own place to read. The grounds are enormous.". They are pretty enormous, especially if you aren't playing a game. And even more so if you're an eleven-year-old.
He adjusts his t-shirt, which had somehow gotten twisted up in the short time that he had been laying here, and fixed his hair, which had fallen in his face again.
He didn't get cold much, and right now wasn't an exception to that. So he was sitting on top of his coat instead of wearing it, and sort of enjoying the slight chill in the air.
He tries to go back to reading, but he really can't focus with Leona standing right in front of him, watching. So he puts down his book and stares back at her, lifting his eyebrows slightly. Felix is great at staring contests. And also awesome at staring back at people until they get uncomfortable. He really, really hopes that it works this time, and she goes away. She hasn't said anything that could turn into any sort of interesting conversation, and he sure isn't starting the conversation, so yeah. Hopefully this works.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" Leona looks at Felix who looks like he is again thinking she's annoying. She looks at the book he was reading. "What are you reading?" She forgot about what he had asked and said. The book looked interesting. She wanted to start a conversation and maybe become friends with Felix. He looks like he doesn't have many friends.
Leona loses his gaze and stares at the bird that continued to stare at both of them now. She wants to yell at the bird 'Shoo bird' but she saw the way Felix looked before so she stopped herself. Leona is good at ignoring gazes trying to get her to be freaked out. Felix might be trying to do that, Leona thinks. She wonders if he does have friends. Most of the other kids around are sitting with their possibly friends. He isn't sitting with anybody.
Felix was staring at Leona which made her a little annoyed but not mad. She has already been stared at weirdly at this school. Felix seems nicer (excluding the last time they saw each other) that most of the other kids at Hogwarts. He might be mostly a jerk but he's kinda cool.

Felix eventually gives up on just staring at Lorena, and answers "It's Dragon Species of Great Britain and Ireland".
He'd much rather be chatting with Matthew right now, but he's busy.
One more nice thing about Hogwarts is that the teachers don't check on you if you're sitting by yourself during free time. A lot of other kids are sitting with their friends, but he's sitting by himself. He doesn't really mind. He'd rather be sitting by himself because his friend is busy, than be sitting by himself because he has no one who tolerates him in the entire school.
Felix remembers looking around the school yard back home and not being able to find anyone else by themselves. He'd always felt sort of isolated, and though he didn't care much at all, it had hurt a bit.
He wondered why circumstances kept causing him and any friends he made to be separated. His original best friend had been put in a different class for a couple of years, and then had a new friend group that he was never brave enough to approach. His newer friend moved near the end of the year, and a bunch of his other friends were either younger or older than him. So he ended up by himself at school, talking random people that he knew in the yard, bothering them for entertainment, and/or reading his book.

"Oh cool..." Leona didn't know what to say other than that so she didn't say anything else for a little while. "So how are your...Classes?" She stumbled at saying some of the words. She hated not being able to talk a lot. Leona usually doesn't tell anyone but she has a severe case of social anxiety. That makes it very hard for her to speak to new people she barely knows. But with Felix she feels more confident around him for some reason.
Leona looks at the tree that Felix is sitting under. It looks like a Norway Spruce tree. She loves trees so much. "Do you like trees?" She asks Felix without thinking. Should she walk away now or stay and wait for him to say something? "Or birds?" Felix seems like a bird person Leona thinks. By now the annoying crow-like bird had flown away. Leona sighs at seeing the bird being gone, she really wanted to scare it.
She remembers what she wanted to ask Felix before but thought it was stupid now. She wanted to know if he was... now she can't remember. Well that's common with Leona, she can't remember most things. Leona looks again at Felix and wants to start a conversation.

"My classes are fine. And I like birds a bit." Felix is speaking in a pretty monotone voice. Honestly, his horrible sleep schedule catches up to him on the weekends, and conversations are slightly draining when he's trying to recharge from the week. His grades are decent, not amazing, but good. A few Acceptable, a lot of Exceeds Expectations, plus a couple Outstandings.
He noticed that the rook that had been hanging around had left now. Leona hadn't chased it, but she looked like she'd wanted to.
Also, his face is still very sore. He was still ticked off at her for that.
Felix decides to make this convo less one-sided. And decides to get straight to the point. "Why do you keep talking to me? What's the point?" he asks. He's never had any sort of tact. Unless he takes the time to think it over and plan, which, right now, is not happening. If he does plan, he can usually avoid offending anyone. But he sure isn't wasting time to plan any interaction with this person.
Right now, his impression of her wasn't very good at all. He'd been knocked into and had a book tossed in his face. Also, now she was kind of bugging him while he was trying to read a book.

"Well, I want to get to know you better. Do you want me to leave?" Leona says really feeling like she wants to run away now. She wanted to start a conversation originally but now she wanted to leave and maybe forget about Felix if possible. Leona really wanted to know him better (like with a capital R) but now he was a real jerk and was very rude.
Leona wanted it to be a school day so she could forget about Felix and let him just be him. Why did she have to talk to him or even hit him with a book in the first place. What will Felix say? Will Leona be able to finally leave and go back to reading her book? Or will Felix want her to stay and talk? Probably not the last one, he seems to not like her. Leona really wants to know him but if Felix doesn't want that then she'll leave. Why hasn't Felix forgiven her yet, will he ever forgive her?
The wind fiercely blows and almost knocks Leona over but she catches her feet and stumbles over a root from a big tree. Leona falls over and hits her head on a sharp rock. "Ow!"
