Sereia's Calming Presence is in effect
evening after dinner on april 10th, 2024

Sereia sighed as she watched the view outside the window. Usually, this was her time to go for a run and enjoy a breath of fresh air. Instead, she had to postpone her run and supervise a kid's detention. The grip on her silver lime wood wand alternated between tight and loose as she considered the need for spells. The locking spell was probably a bit too far, and even moreso if she added the Anti-Alohomora Charm on top of that. Sereia already used that combination from when she caught Minnie trying to break into the restricted section.

The Spell-Detecting Spell, perhaps? Minnie was going to clean her crystal balls the Muggle way, meaning no magic. Would it be wise to confiscate the kid's wand beforehand? Probably. Sereia shook her head. She needed to have a little more trust that this one would be honest and carry it out without complaining.

Once Minnie arrived, Sereia would clear her throat. "I'm not getting you to do anything gruelling, promise. I would just like a hand at wiping the crystal balls clean since students like to get their fingerprints on it; it makes the crystal ball gazing harder to do if there's fingerprints on it. So, wipe them clean with this cloth."

Sereia would hand her the cloth. "Just the ones on these tables- there's ten of them. Once you're done wiping them clean, I would like you to write an apology letter for the librarian and for your Head of House. Each. Not one for both, one for each of them, reflecting on how you shouldn't be sneaking out when you shouldn't."

Surely that was a good enough set of tasks for detention, right? "The letters don't have to be long, but they need some effort and thought put into them."

With a wave of her hand, she would let Minnie get started.
Welcome to detention! You are only in IC trouble, not OOC. Sereia is not pleased.

As a little TL;DR, you are expected to:
1) write your character wiping the crystal balls. The minimum word count for the cleaning is 300 words - this can be split into multiple posts. You do not need to wait for me to post to continue posting; you can double post.

2) additionally, you will write apology letters after cleaning to the librarian and the Head of House Hufflepuff, each 150 words long. Your post where you write the letters still need to meet the minimum word count of 200 words for RPs in addition to the letter content.

3) clean without the use of magic. Sereia will periodically check for spells via the Spell-Detection Spell. If magic is used, an extra 50 words will be added to the word count requirement for each letter.

4) you cannot make or join new RP threads until detention is complete. Threads that were created before the detention thread was created can be continued as normal. OOC threads, are exempt from this. (I am aware you're also on the ball committee, so threads regarding the ball are also fine to start if this detention hasn't been finished in time.)

Once the requirements are met, I will post one final time to let you out of the classroom.

Minnie groaned inwardly as she saw the crystal balls she would have to clean. The fact that she couldn't use magic as well was so annoying, and that she would have to write letters to her head of house and the librarian! This was incredibly annoying. But it was her own fault and she didn't need to make others suffer. So she was annoyed in silence.

Minnie got to work, grabbing the cloth and starting to clean the crystal balls. It was really really boring. She needed something to take her mind off the mundane task. Hmm...what if I think about...hmm...yeah I can't think of anything. So she looked at one of the crystal balls she was polishing. Unsurprisingly, she saw nothing. But it was still annoying. Minnie felt her annoyance rising, and tried to keep it down, not wanting to inconvenience Professor Clairmont.

I need a distraction. Perhaps I can think about Astronomy! That usually cheers me up. But what about it? How about...the eclipse! That happened recently. Or...maybe the moon or the sun or...Venus? Hmm...I think I'll think about the sun. Minnie decided and then moved on to the next ball, making sure that each was clean so she wouldn't have to do them over. As she moved to the next one, she thought about it as the sun, too hot to touch and very bright. But soon she got bored with that and slipped back into just mindlessly cleaning the crystal.

This isn't working, but I guess that's what the punishment is supposed to be, annoying. But I most likely will be in detention again as this hasn't really taught me the lesson they want, just to get better at not getting caught. Soon Minnie was getting close to finishing the crystal balls, and would then only have the letters to do. What fun.

Minnie finished the crystal balls and lay against the wall for a moment, tired and ready to go to bed. But she still had more to do. Now she had to write the letters.

Minnie grabbed some parchment and set to work. She would write to her head of house first. Having decided that, she hovered her quill over the paper, not sure what she would say. She didn't really know how to apologize for waking someone up. She hadn't really been the one to wake him up, Professor Clairmont had. But she didn't feel like getting in more trouble, so she started the letter.
Dear Professor Browne, head of Hufflepuff house,
I am very sorry that I woke you up at night. And that I broke all those rules. I shouldn't have been out of the common room and dormitory, and I regret it. I don't know what I was thinking, and I will make sure it doesn't happen again. I know how much sleep is important, especially to a teacher. I am very sorry and I hope you can forgive me.
Sincere regrets,
Minnie Duke
A little over the top, but fine. She did regret it, just because she had gotten caught. Now, on to the next letter, which she didn't really want to write, as she liked the librarian and loved books. So she was going to be actually sincere writing this one. Minnie grabbed another piece of parchment and got ready to write it, still unsure what to write. Most likely about how she wouldn't try to break into the restricted section again. So she lifted her quill to the parchment and began to write.
Dear Professor Sáez,
I'm very sorry I tried to break into the restricted section at night. It was very wrong of me, and I don't plan to do it again. I really enjoy going to the library, and I just wanted to know more knowledge. I know that's not an excuse, and I am very sorry. I really regret going there, and I really hope that you can forgive me, although I don't blame you if you don't. Just know I'm sorry.
Sincerest regrets,
Minnie Duke
Minnie finished and smiled slightly, relieved it was over. Now she could go back to her dormitory and sleep, tonight was definitely not a night to explore Hogwarts. "Professor Claimont? Can I please go now? I finished the crystal balls and the letters."

Sereia's Calming Presence is in effect
evening after dinner on april 10th, 2024

The silence was eerie, to say the least. Sereia never liked working in complete silence. Back in the Muggle world, she would be playing her Spotify playlist or the newest album from her favourite artist on repeat. Unfortunately, she couldn't have that luxury in the wizarding world because magic interfered with electricity and technology. Not even those old bricks of an iPod would work! A tragedy. Surely the wizarding world had an alternative to the iPod that would work in Hogwarts. A magical radio, perhaps?

As Minnie cleaned, Sereia pretended to occupy herself with her lesson notes. What day was it tomorrow? A Wednesday? It was probably just going to be a revision session for the senior years all day as they prepared for exams. She scribbled down some notes on cartomancy for tomorrow's revision. There was always an extensive section on cartomancy from past exams she had seen.

At the sound of her name, Sereia got up and walked around the place. The crystal balls were looking much better than they originally had been, so that was a start. It would be incredibly cruel of her to point out the most arbitrary excuses that they weren't as polished as Minnie believed. So, she hummed and nodded. "Thank you, they look much better now."

Sereia walked over the see Minnie's letters. The content was bare, at best, but then again the professor never specified how she expected Minnie to structure them. "I would like them a bit longer and more extensive. I know you might feel as if you've said everything, so maybe talk about why you think those rules are in place. Why do you think we place curfews? Why do you think the restricted section stays restricted to younger years until you pass the O.W.Ls?"

Sereia gave Minnie a boxy smile. "Just write a bit more and then you can go. Again, some thought and effort, please."
Please post one final time writing to make your letters longer; the requirement for each letter is 150 words making the letters word count total 300 words. Each letter is currently 86 words for a total of 172 words.

You are free to god-mod Sereia letting you go out once the word count for the letters has been met.

Minnie nearly let a groan slip out as Professor Clairmont told her to make the letters longer. She also had no idea why the rules were in place. They seemed rather stupid to her. But she couldn't say that in the letter. So she had to think harder. Maybe for...safety? Well, that's what she was going to go with anyways. So she took out her quill and once again began to write, adding to her letter.
I know that the rules for being inside your dormitory are there for a reason, and that they are there to keep us safe. It was incredibly stupid of me to go out, where anything could have been hiding. I know that dark magic exists, and staying in my bed at night is really the only way to guarantee safety. So I am exremely and utterly sorry about my terrible behavior of going out of the Hufflepuff common room after dark.
Sincere regrets,
Minnie Duke
Minnie thought that was satisfactory. And it was much longer too, so now that was fine. Now on to the next one. She had no clue why they had rules against that. Maybe...it was dangerous to read and was too gruesome for their minds? Yes, that's what she would do.
I know that going into the restricted section unapproved is probably dangerous, as some of the books are most likely dangerous to read, and have dangerous content. It's most likely too gruesome for my young self to read, so I shouldn't read it. I'm so glad that Professor Clairmont stopped, me I was being incredibly stupid. I do hope that this doesn't damage our relationship.
Sincerest regrets,
Minnie Duke
Minnie finished that, also happy with how it looked. She gave it to Professor Clairmont, who looked it over and gave it a nod, it would do. "Alright, you may go." She said. Minnie smiled gratefully and ran out the door, happy to go her dormitory room and sleep, not having to look at crystal balls for a long long time.
