“One, two, three… one, two, three!” Lithaen was dancing all day now, all around the castle. She thought of herself as a good dancer, though she wasn’t sure everyone would agree. She had, however, always enjoyed dancing, since she was a little girl. The only problem was her clumsiness. She could be very clumsy from time to time and this resulted in tripping over her own feet all the time. This was, especially when she was dancing, a big problem!

Though today she would be fine. She was very sure of it. Today she would dance with her best friend of all times, Aedion Sorrengail. The sweetest little Slytherin she met just a while ago. She really enjoyed spending her time with him. In fact, she was finally happy again. After her twin brother died she sure thought she’d never be happy again, but here she was! Aedion really was the best thing that happened to her in a while.

This week, on Saturday, they would attend the dance together. Lithaen had never been to a dance, but she couldn’t wait to wear her most beautiful dress! Her mother had proudly sent her one. She was probably happy to see her daughter was in a better place now. And her first dance was pretty big!

With a big smile on her face, Lithaen danced to the rehearsal room, where she would meet Aedion. They’d practise their dancing together and Lithaen hoped he would be able to keep her standing! She knew, however, how her parents danced when they danced together, so the most logical thing to her was to copy whatever it was what they always did. She kept dancing all around the rehearsal room while waiting for her friend.

Dancing. He'd be dancing on Saturday and he'd been nervous ever since he knew it would happen. His best friend, Lithaen Galathynius, had been extremely excited about it all. She loved to dance, is what she told him, and she really wanted to attend the ball. So Aedion, as stupid as he was, agreed to the deal. And now he found himself slightly regretting his decision. He had two left feet and although he was quite rhythmic, he was no dancer.

When he announced the plan to his parents, both of them seemed to be quite excited about it. They send him a letter along with a box of goodies. Inside he'd found a smoking they'd bought him and the most painful shoes he'd ever worn. His mom wrote he had to 'break them in' before attending the ball, so he had worn the shining black shoes as much as his feet would allow him ever since receiving the parcel. And it hadn't been fun at all. His poor toes and feet were burning in absolute pain and he had to put bandages all over his feet for him to be able to walk normally.

Today he took out the bloody painful shoes one more time, but this time it was because Lithaen and himself had planned to use the rehearsal room for some dancing practice. He knew a boy was supposed to guide the lady, but today he would get rid of that rule and let Lithaen teach him what he had to do. He was sure she knew all about it!

He approached the rehearsal room and already could feel his feet protesting. He pushed the thought out of his head and stepped into the rehearsal room where he saw his best friend. The Gryffindor girl with the flaming red hair who always seemed to be happy and excited about anything!
"Lithaen!" he exclaimed as he made his way towards her. "Look at the shoes my mom got me!" He lifted up a leg and wiggled his shoes at her. "They're bloody painful, they are. I've been trying to... Break them in all week without much luck. I feel like my feet are about to fall off, but they go with my smoking and..." A dramatic sigh left his mouth. "You'd have to guide me today, otherwise I'm afraid we'll look like complete fools at the ball on Saturday..."

When she was a little girl, Lithaen had always dreamt about going to a ball like this. In her dreams, she was a bit older and she had the most handsome prince on her side, but it still felt perfect. Aedion could be a prince and she could be a princess. They were just friends, but this was mainly because Lithaen didn't think about boys romantically. She was only eleven years old!

For now, they were just friends, though she started to love Aedion. Every day again she looked forward to seeing him and spending time with him. Luckily this was always possible because they lived in the same castle! And this meant, to her, there was no one else she could have asked to join the ball with her.

Her mother, however, was still acting weird about Aedion and her. Still asking her daughter whether he was cute or handsome. Still asked her daughter a million very annoying questions. Lithaen always sighed while answering the letters to her mother. Her mother could be a pain in the ass, she thought. She even wrote this to her, hoping she wouldn't be mad and just stop acting weird.

With a smile, Lithaen looked at Aedion as he walked into the rehearsal room. "Aedion!" she said, with a loud voice. "I am happy to see you!" She hugged him and then looked at his brand-new shoes. "Wow," she smiled. "Those are very, very, very adult..ish. No wonder they hurt. They are very nice, though! I can't wait to see your smoking!" She giggled. "What colour is your smoking? I hope it fits with my dress!" She didn't tell him much about her dress yet. This had to be a surprise! She giggled again. "Of course, I will guide you. I am a very good dancer, you know. Okay, at first you have to put your hand on my waist and with your other hand you will hold mine. Like this!" She stepped into her most beautiful ballroom position.
