Kaylee Reid huffed again as she brushed her blonde hair out of her eyes. She traced her fingers on the lining of the bookshelf, feeling the smooth, cool wood underneath her hands. She stopped as a thick, green book caught her eye. The Record of Ravenclaw. Kaylee pulled the book out of the shelf, and let out a groan as the book dropped on her foot. She assisted the book up to her hands with her feet and leafed through the pages. She halted as she saw the elegant, posh face of Rowena Ravenclaw. Kaylee turned to the first page of the book and picked up her stuff. She read as she walked to a vacant table and spread out her things. She kept her eyes on the book as she pulled her hair back into a loose ponytail. She thought back of when she was younger.

Kaylee reached up to the top shelf.
“Oh you want to see that one?” her mother cooed.
“Yes please!” Kaylee made a grabbing motion.
Her mother plucked the poster off of the rack in the store and unrolled it to reveal a big picture of Rowena Ravenclaw. She was holding a book in her right hand, her cloak falling over her arm. She winked at her, and Kaylee giggled. Kaylee traced Rowena’s, beautiful, long wand and looked at her mother.
“This one mommy!” Kaylee grinned.
“Okay sweetie,”, she put it into the small bag.

Kaylee smiled at the memory and flicked back to Rowena’s picture. Rowena was reading, and only looked up when a shadow fell across the book. Kaylee looked up and frowned at the face looking at her.

I was making my way to the great hall when I got a owl from my friend! Yes they had responded!! I raced to the library and found Kaylee sitting at at table. I stood in a way that my shadow was cast on her book. She looked up frowning. I smiled at her,
"Oh come on no need to be so grumpy!" Kaylee groaned.
"Okay then if you're not going to talk then I'll keep rambling until you say something!"
Kaylee looked at me and rolled her eyes, but I could see a slight smile forming on her lips.
"So today I had charms class and we worked on Lumos! I think I did pretty good."
I wiped out my wand and casted the spell
"Lumos!"
The tip of my wand lit up for a bit.
"The Gryffindor common room its really cool! And everyone is so nice! The prefect helped me with the password to get in, I forgot it a couple times thought. I got an owl from my parents saying they hwere very proud of me and asked if I had made any friends. So I told them I had met you! Oh yeah did you see the kid over at the Slytherin table that got a howler from their mom! It was so funny!"
Kaylee looked at me.

I rolled my eyes and said, “Do all Gryffindors y’all this much?” she pouted as I closed the book.
I studied her face. She looked at me and crinkled her duo colored eyes in a cheesy grin.
Her short blonde hair had fallen over her face and was indescribably frizzy. Perhaps she had run here from some other room in a rush to get here. I mean, she had a good 10 minutes as to when she could have been here, so she could have just so simply walked or dawdled in the Great Hall. Gryffindors. So.... them. I picked up my stuff to make room for her to sit down and drop my wand. She leans down and grabs my wand. Sparks go flying, slightly searing the floor and quickly stands up. She smacks her head against the table and I can hear the big “thump”.
“Are all Gryffindors this clumsy? I mean, I’d expect you to be in Hufflepuff with that innocence. Clumsy Gryffindor,”, I pat her head as she rubs her neck.
I pull out my homework and I look at her straight in the face.
“Please don’t tell me you want to copy my answers..”, because if she does, she knows I’ll have to say yes.

Lucian entered the library, her eyes burning from a severe lack of sleep, yet twinkling from the promise of finding something new to read about in the library. She needed to brush up on her research behind the Sorting Hat; discover how she possibly could have been placed in Gryffindor, when her natural place in this school had been Slytherin all along.
She decided to begin with Hogwarts, A History, hoping dearly that she could find something that would explain her dilemma to her expecting family. She had been receiving owls from them the past few mornings, demanding to hear of her exploits, whether she had made friends, what she had learned; they hadn't even thought to ask what house she was in, their assumptions entirely placed on Slytherin. After all, it couldn't be any other way.
As she began to read, Lucian found information regarding the origins of the hat; originally belonging to Godric Gryffindor, but becoming enchanted when the four heads of house began to wonder how sorting would occur after they passed. She wondered if this could have to do with her placement, a fluke in the enchantment perhaps. She wondered if there was a way that she could consult it, speak to the hat and see what had gone wrong; she had heard legend of the hat giving advice, occasionally warning of danger to come. Of course, that would mean sneaking into the Headmasters office, a task she wasn't sure she was up to completing.

I had asked Kaylee to help me with my homework because I wasn't to good with it. We talked for a bit about our lives at home and what it would be like if we didn't have magic and we were just muggles. we both laughed at that thought and agreed it would be such a boring life. I was nice talking to Kaylee. It was good to have a friend due to the fact I had no friends in Gryffindor yet. I felt really out of place in my house. I always thought I would have been in Hufflepuff due do my personality but Gryffindor will have to do. I was kinda jealous of Kaylee, her house was perfect for her and she didn't need to worry if she was worthy or not for her house. She was smart, analytical, and over all very Ravenclaw-ish. She probably was a hit in her house due to all the things she knows and because of how smart she is. Unlike me who had no friends in their house.
not yet though! I can make some friends!! I'll be sure of it!
My thought reassured me. It was only the first week and I still had time. As I looked around the library at the other students I noticed a girl in Gryffindor robes pondering over a book. She seemed puzzled and worried. I walked over to her.
“Hey? Are you okay? You look like you need help?”

So suddenly, Maxwell had stood up from Kaylee’s table and gone to talk to another girl.
How does she do that? Kaylee frowned. She had tried so hard to make friends, but her snarky demeanor pushed others away from her. Yesterday she helped a girl in class, but she thought she said it a bit like a know it all so the girl mumbled her thanks and scooted away. I mean, it was a simple question after all, how did she not know? Maxwell sat next to the girl and they chatted for a while and Kaylee glared at the back of her head. How DARE she sit with her. Kaylee took in a sharp breath. What is wrong with me? Kaylee put her head back down and quietly seethed at everything. Stupid girl. Stupid Maxwell. Stupid me. Stupid books.. okay not books... Kaylee bit her tongue and picked up her things. She shuffled over to the girls’ table. She put her things down on the opposite side of the table.
“Hi..” Kaylee mumbled.
Maxwell beamed at her and Kaylee glared at Maxwell. She waited for someone to say something. They all just stared at each other, then she buried her nose back in Records of Ravenclaw.

Lucian frowned as the girls walked over, rolling her eyes to herself and hoping that they would leave soon. She'd come to the library today to specifically research the Sorting Hat, not to make friends.
However, perhaps these people could be of use to her in her future plan to speak to the hat itself. She needed to find out more about them, without giving anything away herself.
"What would make me look as if I need help? I'm just brushing up on my history." She gave a complacent smile, rubbing a finger over the page she was on. "The Sorting Hat is a most interesting topic, don't you think? How a simple enchanted hat could understand our deepest selves, even better than we understand ourselves."
She looked over the girls. The one who had approached her first, Gryffindor, seemed kind enough, desperate for friends, seeming to be the type of preson who didn't enjoy to be alone. The Ravenclaw, however, seemed to be quite upset with her appearance over here, glaring at the Gryffindor rather unsubtly. Lucian snickered to herself, finding the pair to be extremely amusing, albeit possibly useful. She needed to know the two a little better before she could decide their true use, but that would come with more conversation.

”The Sorting Hat is a most interesting topic, don't you think? How a simple enchanted hat could understand our deepest selves, even better than we understand ourselves."
The girl said to us. I wanted to respond, but I didn’t have clue what to say. For as long as I could remember I thought of the sorting hat as an amazing thing that would put you in the house where you would do the best. Though now hearing those words from the girl, it made me rethink it. I had lived my whole life thinking I would be in Hufflepuff. I was loyal and nice, but when the hat shouted out Gryffindor I was really confused. So maybe it is weird that an old hat would sit on your head and place you in a house. All the other kids in my house seemed to belong there. Then why did I feel like I didn’t? Could it have been possible that the hat made a mistake when I was sorted? I did have my doubts about where I was placed, but I had trust in that hat. That hat had been the thing that sorted all Hogwarts students since the beginning of the school. I had faith that I was in the right house. Soon I would find my place. I looked at the girl and spoke.
“Well, I do see where you’re coming from but if the hat didn’t sort us what would?”

Lucian nodded at the girl, watching her carefully. She seemed young, naive, as if she hadn't experienced most of the world, a trait Lucian would typically find a turn off to her intrigue, but not when it came to usefulness. Compliance was alway a good trait to find when looking for chess pieces, and this girl may be no exception.
"Why, I'm not quite sure what else. I'm not saying the system is faulty, just quite interesting is all. The concept of placing a hat on your head and being told where you will reside and belong for the next seven years quite holds my curiosity."
She observed the girl a few moments longer, the kind, smiling face, still holding some of its baby fat in the cheeks. The girl's stance, her movements, all screamed ultimate kindness, nearly to a fault. "You don't feel as if you belong in our house, do you?" She contested, looking the girl purposefully up and down, raising an eyebrow. "The kind, even keel, good mannered, sweet natured. You wished for Hufflepuff."
She sat back in her chair just then, fairly certain and proud of her assumption, and analyzing the girls face next, watching to catch any hints that she may be correct.

Kaylee coughed and looked at the girl.
“Good posture. Slight natural sneer. Perfectly manicured nails. You obviously think you are better then the rest. It’s like you were vying to be a Slytherin. And from the way your lip has a faint scar, I can tell you’re a pure blood. Knowing you from so far that I’ve analyzed, that scar was no accident. You’re too intellectual and careful to make a mistake like that. So, it must have been on purpose, perhaps by a friend or family member. The only way to explain this is for someone who is mentally unstable because of exposure to dark magic, or someone who wants the best in their child or friend, both implying pure blood. The reason you’re in the library is to figure out why you weren’t in Slytherin rather then Gryffindor. I respect you for the skill of Ravenclaws for figuring out my friend is indeed wishing to be a Hufflepuff. I rest my case,”, Kaylee leaned back in her chair, smirking.
While the girls were having their exchange, Kaylee had sketched out the girl, making her biggest giveaways as prominent as possible. The sketch was a bit sloppy, since it was rushed, but the features of the girl were correct and beautifully made. Kaylee closed it in her book.
“I don’t think we’ve introduced yet.”, Kaylee sniffed and raised her eyebrows at the girl.
