Violet laughed quietly (because of the library of course) at Emily's comment about them all being well prepared for their classes. ''They'll simply have to give us all O's in our classes!''she whispered to them while leaning forward a little bit. And I'm on the same page as you, Emily, I think it is going to be so exciting to study Magical Creatures! Though we have to wait until our third year for that of course.. but I just had to read through this book anyway, because why not, you know?''she said, her eyes lighting up they way they do whenever she set off rambling.

As River told them about her Hyperthymesia, Violet essentially had a similar reaction to it as Emily. ''That is impressive, River! I take it you don't really have to study much then. You'll definitely be getting those O's on your homeworks and classes.'' She then listened to Emily as she spoke and could only agree with her. ''I am the same, I love learning new things, even in school and even if I'm not in a class yet. Hence this.''she said shaking one of the books around her, referring to them all really.

She then turned to River again, looking over now and then at Emily to include her in her following comments towards River, as to show that she would happily have Emily's input whenever she wanted to add it. She didn't want anyone to feel left out. ''So, River, do you have to actually read every page or do you just skim over them all and it just sticks to you, or how does it work?'' Violet said as she leaned forward again, showing interest in the conversation, resting her chin on her hands, and her elbows rested on the table.

''So, River, do you have to actually read every page or do you just skim over them all and it just sticks to you, or how does it work?'' Violet asked in a quiet tone. River felt joy buble up inside her. They don't think it's weird!

"Oh, um, well usually it only really takes a glance. Since I can just properly 'read' through a page later on, as long as I have a clear image of the entire page then I can move on." She gestured to the books around her, "I can probably go through all of these in about 3 or 4 hours, since I still have to look at every page. My parents always got a bit flustered trying to supply me with enough books to fill my time. It's why I took up art alongside my piano lessons."

River allowed herself to feel a bit of pride at their admiration, "I don't really struggle with schoolwork all that much, most of the time it's just putting what I've already memorised into my own words." When she finished speaking, River felt her confidence suddenly drain away, fiddling with her ring and long black hair, glancing down at her books to avoid making direct eye contact.

"Um, I'm not trying to, um, brag or anything! I'm not trying to say other people don't try for their grades, it's just a bit easier for me..." She could feel her self-confidence collapse in on itself, afraid to have said the wrong thing this time and finally scared off these really nice girls.

Stupid, awkward idiot!

So cool...

Throughout the conversation, Emily sat with her elbows on the table like a child listening to a storybook. Emily was familiar with the term "Hyperthymesia" before, but to hear River talk about it in such detail only fuelled her amazement and curiosity over it. In a slightly bizarre sense, it kind of reminded her of herself a little bit, only Emily would spend hours, if not days, on a single book, reading and re-reading it because she enjoyed the contents of it.

"I still think it's really cool you're able to do that though, River" Emily said favourably. "I'll bet people would kill to have a keen sense like yours. Heck, you're probably like a machine, flying through books like it's nothing!"

She beamed at the thought. With how eloquent and well-read she appeared to be, Emily could definitely picture River as a walking encyclopaedia. Not that she would dare say it out loud in case it embarrassed, heaven forbid insult her.

She met Violet's eyes and she could tell she was thinking the same thing, that River was truly unique and that she should be proud of it. She leaned over and gently gave her an encouraging pat on the shoulder. Her energy radiated inspiration and intrigue.

"Auntie would say 'True beauty is owning your uniqueness,' so don't feel inferior or outcasted by it. You should be proud and inspired by your skills. I know I am!"

Violet listened to River explain it all to her with intrigue. The thought of being able to add information to your brain seemingly effortlessly was nothing other than impressive to her, she imagined it as River having her own library but mentally.

As River excused herself and explained she was not trying to brag, Violet shook her head, her wavy lengths of hair bobbing at her shoulders, but smiling still. ''Oh, don't worry, I don't take it as you bragging. Even though I personally do enjoy the process of learning things the way I do it and mulling over books and such, I still find it highly interesting.''

Violet then looked over at Emily as she was speaking. "Auntie would say 'True beauty is owning your uniqueness,' so don't feel inferior or outcasted by it. You should be proud and inspired by your skills. I know I am!" she said. Violet simply nodded , and she couldn't help but feel a sense of them all relating to this very fact.

They all seemed to love books and Violet felt that even though River was obviously unique, the three of them could relate on some things and this made her smile a bit more. She had had no problem talking and getting to know other students since she got here, but this was the first time Violet felt there seemed to be some actual substance to the bonding with other students. ''I absolutely agree with Emily and her Auntie on that. Your uniqueness is part of your identity and is part of defining you as who you are. You should definitely be proud, River.''she said, offering a kind nod towards her.

''Oh, don't worry, I don't take it as you bragging. Even though I personally do enjoy the process of learning things the way I do it and mulling over books and such, I still find it highly interesting.'' Violet whispered, smiling at River.

"I still think it's really cool you're able to do that though, River" Emily said kindly when River turned to face her. "I'll bet people would kill to have a keen sense like yours. Heck, you're probably like a machine, flying through books like it's nothing!" River felt her blush deepen at the high praise. "Auntie would say 'True beauty is owning your uniqueness,' so don't feel inferior or outcasted by it. You should be proud and inspired by your skills. I know I am!" The Hufflepuff exclaimed quietly, and Violet nodded in agreement. ''I absolutely agree with Emily and her Auntie on that. Your uniqueness is part of your identity and is part of defining you as who you are. You should definitely be proud, River.'' she said, sending a kind nod River's way.

"Thank you," she said in a barely audible whisper. Had they been anywhere else besides the library, her words would have been lost to the din of the crowds of students. "I know a lot of people think it's a cool ability, and it is but..." Her grey-blue eyes held a deep sadness as she paused in her words, "It's not always as amazing as one would think. I don't forget anything, but that means I don't forget anything, no matter how much I would like to sometimes. Remembering the good things is great, amazing even, but the bad things? They will quite literally haunt me forever." She gave a small sign before lifting her head that had fallen to stare at the book in front of her. "I can say that I've been lucky though. My parent kept me quite sheltered before I came to Hogwarts, so there weren't many opportunities for something bad to happen, but I have had to witness and remember every death among our creatures, ones who were my friends and were practically my family."

"One of the worst was a snake I had grown incredibly close to, Sylvie. It would have been better if she had simply died of natural causes, but instead, we were playing together near the boomslangs when it happened. One of the boomslangs had just finished nesting and must have still felt extremely territorial, so when Sylvie got too close, the new mother struck out in an attempt to protect her eggs. The venom killed Sylvie in mere minutes. I was 7. I've had weekly meetings with my mind healer since then up until the 1st to make sure that the memory wouldn't cripple me in my grief."

"But it's fine now," River shook herself out of her darkening thoughts, sending a small smile to the other girls, hoping that she hadn't ruined the happy, peaceful atmosphere that had been around the small group of three. "The others have kept me company, and I know that not everything lives forever. I can keep Sylvie and all of the others alive in my mind and my heart, so I still cherish my memory and all that comes with it."

Emily was stunned at River's story, so much so that it took her several minutes to even process what she was saying. The longer she took, the more her smile faded and she felt a wave of shame for speaking so freely like that before. The whole tone of the conversation took on a macabre feel to it and Emily couldn't help but feel responsible for it.

"Oh... I see... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to stir up such a sad memory like that..." As if that was enough to apologise for making such assumptions about River's memory skills.

Of course, there's always a twist in the tale no matter what it is...

"B-But at least you're not alone in spite of what's happened! And if you think about it, you'll be able to remember all your happy memories too...!" Emily felt for sure she was sprouting nonsense, her speech was in an embarrassed squeak and talking much faster as if she was trying to cover it up.

Her worries alleviated somewhat when River brought back a hopeful smile but Emily still couldn't help but feel bad all the same. Losing someone, no matter who they were, must've been hard for her. And to remember it constantly like she does must hurt as well depending on the moment. The whole idea reminded Emily of a character from a comic she read with a friend once back home, one who had an impressive healing ability and lived on for over one hundred years before finally being able to rest in peace.

Oh... Forever really does feel like a sad concept...

At the same time however, River did have a point; "Not everything lives forever,"she said, and Emily nodded in agreement.

"Yeah... and in that case, we ought to cherish this moment between us as best as we can. I know I will...!" She flashed one more optimistic smile, hoping to keep up the good vibes they'd been sharing so far.

"Yeah... and in that case, we ought to cherish this moment between us as best as we can. I know I will...!" Emily flashed a small hesitant smile, her words warming River's heart.

"Yes, that is true, and no matter how many bad memories I keep, I have hundreds of good ones as well. Such as this one, meeting the two of you is definitely one I will forever cherish." Her smile was that much brighter, her eyes lighting up like melting snow in spring. "I apologise for bringing down the mood, but I've never quite interacted with peers the same age as me. I hope that we can be friends after this."

River didn't know what friendship with another person was like, having only been friends with magical creatures until she first arrived at Hogwarts, but if it was anything like this, this warm content feeling she got from these two kind girls? Then she hoped she could make as many friends as she could, could bottle this feeling and keep it forever in her chest.

She didn't like having a cold, indifferent mask on all the time. She wanted to smile and laugh and spend her days learning and drawing and being with friends, especially if they were like Emily and Violet.

I'm glad I won't ever forget this day.

'' ...I can keep Sylvie and all of the others alive in my mind and my heart, so I still cherish my memory and all that comes with it." As River said this Violet's gaze dropped to a serious one as she could resonate with this as well. There was this one part of her life that she was so used to at this point that she sometimes forgot it had ever happened. Seeing as she felt comfortable with these girls and the fact that they both have opened up about themselves Violet felt okay with doing the same in order to show River she understood what she meant. Maybe not in the same, exact way, but somewhat - in Violet's own way.

''I understand what you mean by that. I had an older brother, his name was Isaac, but he passed away before I was even born. And don't worry, I'm completely fine even though it is a sad thing, it was so long ago now. My parents always showed me pictures of him and told me stories of their memories. He was three when he passed but I feel like I know him and I feel like their memories are my own too.'' Violet offered a gentle smile to them both to show that she was really okay and there was no need to feel bad for her or anything of the sort.

What I am trying to say is that, for me who never got to meet him, even the grief and the sorrow is kind of a good thing. Since the grief is there, it is a direct result of his prior existence. Does that makes sense? It's like proof he was real because otherwise there would not have been grief for us. So, River, even with bad memories, at least to the extent that you can, accept them for what they are even if it hurts because anything you feel, good or bad, is proof of what and who you had in your life!'' Violet said. From her words it was apparent she had struggled with the loss of her brother a lot before she came to terms with it. Now she rather imagined him following her through the corridors at Hogwarts. A long time ago Violet decided to make the most out of everything she did in life - because Isaac did not get the chance to. She wasn't only living and doing things for herself, she did them for him too.

Later on in the conversation when the girls spoke about cherishing this moment and the hopes of becoming friends, Violet's extroverted side became once again apparent. She excitedly nodded towards both the girls. I will definitely think of you two as friends of mine after this moment. I've met and spoken to a bunch of students so far, but this was the first time since I ame here that I felt an actual bonding with other students that could lead to an actual friendship even outside of school.she said with a wide smile.

River felt a small frown grace her face before covering it with a hesitant smile as Violet talked about her brother. River could somewhat understand. Her mother had gone through 3 miscarriages before River was born, so she missed out on having an older sibling as well. River would never know what it would be like to have her two older brothers tease her for being a bookworm, or have her sister braid her hair in the morning before starting the day. The young Heiress placed her small, delicate hand on top of Violet's, a silent comfort to their similar experiences.

She retrieves her hand and fiddles with her ring, twisting it back and forth thoughtlessly.

"I will definitely think of you two as friends of mine after this moment. I've met and spoken to a bunch of students so far, but this was the first time since I came here that I felt an actual bonding with other students that could lead to an actual friendship even outside of school." Violet smiled widely when she responded to Emily's earlier words.

"My experience is similar," River said softly, "My parents don't really like me leaving the estate very often, so all of my childhood friends are the creatures at home. I'm not well versed in how to interact with people my age, but I've enjoyed meeting you both immensely."

River felt happy that she had met such kind strangers, who did not judge her abnormalities or her awkward tendencies or her formal way of speaking. She knew that, hopefully with time, she would feel comfortable among these girls, her new friends.

Listening to River and Violet's stories was an eye opener for Emily. She had never experienced loss like they did, or at least as deep as from what they have described. It was something Emily couldn't help provide much comfort for, at least perhaps not the kind they deserved, but Emily couldn't help but relate to them all the same, even if only a little. She gave a brave smile to both River and Violet, feeling grateful to have met them and even more so to bond with them so quickly.

"You guys have been through so much... I'm sorry for both of your losses," she said quietly. She suddenly decided in that moment that she would tell them her story. Not just because it was fair that they were trusting each other with such personal stories but it gave Emily the chance to vent her loneliness from back home.

"I've never experienced loss in the family before, but I do kind of understand the feeling of having something missing in your life. For me, I'm pretty much the only person at home. My parents are... well off, for a lack of a better explanation... and because of their work, I don't see them all that often. If at all..."

She took a breath to let that bit sink in before continuing. She laughed a little sheepishly, knowing that this next bit might surprise them for better or for worse.

"Now, this will sound pretentious... and you've every right to think so... but my mother is a fashion designer. She travels a lot for her work and she's only home once a week. As for my father, he's a businessman. And he only visits twice a year if you can believe it."

Emily paused again, internally cringing at what she was saying. She diverted her eyes from their gazes, pretty much expecting them to roll their eyes or laugh mockingly or... something.

Ridiculous... It was all Emily could repeat in her head, because it was ridiculous. She never wanted rich parents. She never cared for money or standards like they did.

"So at home, it's just the maid and me. But I call her "Auntie" because... well... it's a much fitting description. Heck... she could be my mother if I didn't have one already."

She felt confident enough to look back at the two girls again, anxiously awaiting what they would say next.
