Our Own Little Ball
Finn's eyes sparkled in amazement as the violin lifted into the air, the bow gliding along the strings as beautifully as if Markus had been the one guiding it himself, though he knew it was the ghost of Markus. Finn's eyes found the other brown ones as he was approached, his best friend's hand gingerly extended toward him. Swallowing a tightness in his throat, Finn delicately placed his own hand in Markus's and took one calculated step toward him before allowing the shorter male to position Finn's hands properly. Finn had begun to feel a bit chilled by the weather, though as soon as the space between them grew smaller the warmth between their bodies soothed him.
Finn's first steps were slightly awkward - he found himself ridiculing every wrong movement he set forth, and instead resigned to following Markus. As they began to dance and Finn's mind eased, he felt what he'd been searching for - the golden light of the song was enveloping them, drawing them closer, and tickling every inch of Finn. If it weren't for the steady rhythmic steps of their feet, he'd have sworn they'd floated into the air alongside the violin.
Finn caught Markus's gaze as he sheepishly looked up at him - there was something behind those brown eyes of his, something Finn couldn't quite place. He didn't have time to think much of it, however, before the other averted his eyes and spoke softly.
"You're right," He agreed. His voice came out airy and wistful, almost unrecognizable to himself. He had grown so used to shuffling in intimidation and joking off his emotions that the rawness of the moment was catching him by surprise.
Without much thought, Finn leaned forward and rested his cheek against the top of Markus's head. There was no method to his madness, it simply felt right in that moment, and so far the entire night had seemed to be about doing what felt right. No second-guessing, no questioning yourself, just happiness and light and music.
Before he knew it, the music had stopped. The violin ended with one last note before settling back down to earth. Finn didn't move for a moment. He didn't want to.

Our Own Little Ball
Markus nearly froze as soon as he felt the sudden and unexpected physical contact from the taller male. Before he knew it, his heart beat paced faster and his cheeks were adorned with an obvious red blush. He didn't know why he was reacting like this, it was just Finn being physically affectionate, surprisingly. He was the one usually inititating and giving any sort of affection. Perhaps..perhaps he wasn't just used to seeing this side of Finn. Did he dislike the affection? No, not at all. In fact the longer they stayed in that position, the more airy and light Markus was starting to feel. The smaller boy closed his eyes, making sure to cherish the moment, trying to make it last.
But the boy knew they couldn't stay like that forever, no matter how comfortable the position they were in. After a few more seconds, he gave him a brief but heartfelt hug before unlatching himself from Finn. He gave him a small smile, his heartbeat had calmed down and so did the blush on his cheeks.
"Thanks for making this the best ball that i've ever attended to Finn. But hey, any experience with you is always the best when i'm with you, oddly enough--"
He admitted, before hearing his own stomach growl, effectively making the situation funnier. He grinned, his stomach may be hungry but his heart was definitely full.
"I think that's the sign we should go back, the pizzas are nowhere to be found-- the animals probably ate them..including the plate-..?"

"Muggle culture is so fascinating!"

Our Own Little Ball
Finn smirked at his best friend, the happiness and dizziness of the music and moonlight still buzzing through him and making the entire world feel light and distant. Hearing Markus's praise at the event, and Finn's presence in general, only caused to stretch his smile further until his eyes crinkled.
"Guess we'll have to go together to the next one then, eh?" He joked, though in his heart he knew he was being mostly serious. He couldn't imagine having a better time with anybody else besides the boy directly in front of him. Knowing he'd have Markus by his side for the next six years of his life made him feel warm and excited. He took a moment to daydream about all the adventures that would bring - new spells, new stories, experiencing Hogsmeade together... He could hardly wait.
Finn's stomach growled in agreement at Markus's suggestion to flee. "Yeah, man, you're probably right." His eyes drifted over to where the pizzas had laid just moments before - how had they let the delicious cheesy slices slip through their fingers? Such was the power of good music, Finn supposed.
With a full heart and empty bellies, Finn and Markus finished their first ever ball. Hopefully, this wouldn't be the last.
