At one of the tables in the library sat Violet with mounds of books around her, anything ranging from herbology to charms. She was both reading up on things for her homework but also reading literature from classes she was not taking yet out of sheer curiosity. Hair tucked behind her ear, quill in hand and the other tracing the lines in a book she was taking notes from. She was deeply enveloped in the book in front of her which was a book about charm spells. The next book in line to be read was ''Fantastic beasts and where to find them'' even though the Care for Magical Creatures class wouldn't be actualized until her third year, she still wanted to read through the book as she found the creatures incredible.

From time to time she would look up from her book and speak with a fellow student passing by or that was sitting near, clearly not against a conversation here and there. She discussed something she read in one of the books with them, listened to them talking about their day or their homework, and they also helped each other out.

After a while Violet got up to put back the books she wasn't using and wouldn't need more today. She walked along the shelves placing them back in their right spots while letting her finger trace along new books, reading the name on the spines and noting them down in her mind to read another day. She had always loved literature and reading and this library housed such an incredible and varying collection she knew she could never step in here and not find something she wanted to read. This library was everything she ever wanted and would more than likely be one of the things she would miss the most about the school once she would graduate.

Slowly she walked the rows of shelves, placing books, noting names mentally of books she would return to read the following day. Eventually she returned to her spot and jotted down the names on a piece of parchment before picking up ''Fantastic beasts and where to find them'' and starting to flip through it. As she enjoyed drawing and painting she was mesmerized by the illustrations of the beasts and she would make note of the artwork in the book and would attempt to use it as a guide in her own work at a later point.

Emily felt like she was having a field day when she came back to the library at the end of the week. She had spent much of the time studying Astronomy and soon it became a leisurely activity to read books on the subject. She returned the last of what she borrowed from the library, placing them all back to where she found them before and began working down a shelf of books dedicated to Defence Against the Dark Arts.

She was slowly warming up to the subject. She was no fighter by any stretch of the means, though "Auntie" could argue with her all day about that notion. However, Emily simply loved folklore and the study of such dark and dangerous creatures. She was definitely within the category of a Non-Human Enthusiast, and while the class was important to learn how to defend herself against such beasts, she also found it a window of opportunity to learn more on the folkloristics of the Wizarding World. As a Muggle, she was bound to find exciting information on it.

After twenty minutes of intense browsing she walked down the aisles with at least seven books in her hand. To anyone else, they would think she was being excessive, maybe somewhat of a try-hard. This was barely a nibble in the cookie by Emily's standards.

The books toppled a little as she balanced them in her arms. She took her time but the inevitable happened and she bumped into a chair where someone had been sitting peacefully. Thankfully, neither the books or the student in question weren't knocked to the ground. Emily yelped a tiny bit as she regained her composure.

"Sorry!" She said shyly. She found a small space on the table where she put the books down and swallowed embarrassingly, addressing the student. She was a girl in Emily's year, adorned in a Slytherin uniform.

"Super sorry about that..." Emily repeated again, much more quietly this time.

Violet was studying the anatomy of a Kelpie from one of the illustrations in ''Fantastic beasts and where to find them'', trying to make sense of how the artist had painted it. She studied the linework, the shading and highlighting. She was just as mesmerized by all the magical creatures as she was with the art within the wizarding world - not to speak of all the moving portraits! She wrote down some notes on a piece of parchment regarding her own thoughts about the painting process for these illustrations that she theorized the artist had used and that she would attempt in her own works. Not that she housed anything near the talent of this artist, but still, practise makes perfect, as they say.

Suddenly, a chair near her got bumped into and a fellow student put down a pile of books on the table Violet was sitting at. At first when the interaction happened, before Violet realised, she had looked confused but as the student apologised to her, her face turned friendly and calm.

She looked at the pile of books for a short second before turning to the student again. ''That's okay! I see you like reading. What books are they? My name is Violet, by the way. Please, have a seat if you want!''she said as she motioned towards an empty chair.

Emily breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that the girl wasn't mad. She gave another apologetic bow before she grabbed a chair at the end of the table and sat down. She rubbed her arms a little bit after setting the books down, feeling both a little stiff but also quite jittery from the tension of carrying all those books. Both her arms felt drained of energy and weak from the weight of what she carried from the shelves.

She scooted her chair in quietly while the girl she bumped into glanced between her and her own book. Emily still felt weak but managed to remain silent as to let her read her book quietly. It was the very least that Emily could do after bumping into her and disturbing her in the first place.

Finally settled, Emily acknowledged her with a sweet, albeit shy smile. "I'm Emily. Nice to meet you. I know I'm kind of acting like a broken record now, but I'm sorry again for earlier. That's a good book you're reading too, hehe..."

They both exchanged friendly glances before they got back to their books. Emily breathed another sigh of relief now that the awkwardness she felt from before had passed.

River walked slightly unsteadily through the library. She held in her arms a stack of books that would put even the Ravenclaws to shame, at least 15 different books all ranging between her core classes as well as a few on magical and muggle creatures that weren't already in her family's library.

She peeked around her books and vaguely spotted an empty seat that had two other girls sitting there. They both seemed about the same age as River, and she internally cringed at having to interact with other people. No matter how long she'd already been at Hogwarts, it was still difficult getting used to being around so many people at once. She settled her burdens on the opposite side of the table, nodding respectfully at the girls despite the cold mask she hid behind, "I hope you don't mind, may I take this seat?"

With anxiety coursing through her veins she couldn't contain her next words, "You can just ignore me if you want, I won't bother you." Her mind raced with thoughts of rejection and braced herself. Her posture, while still perfectly straight as she had been taught, took on a distinct air of unease as her grey-blue eyes darted from one girl to the next.

Emily looked up to see another Slytherin student approach the table, her jaw almost hitting the floor when she saw the number of books she had in her arms. It was very impressive even for Emily's standards.

She smiled when she requested to take a seat with them. While Emily knew that Violet had the table first, she also couldn't deny when someone was asking so politely. The more the merrier is what they always said, and Emily loved that notion.

She moved in her chair a little to make more space for the girl looking to sit down. She even got up to help the girl set her books down at the table alongside her own pile. Emily exchanged a glance with Violet, making sure it was still okay to have her join them. Emily was thrilled with the idea, and it seemed Violet didn't have a problem with it either.

"It's not a problem for us! Take a seat...!"

Emily retook her place at her chair while the girl sat down at the end of the table. With everyone settled Emily delivered a welcoming grin to their new member.

"I'm Emily by the way," she whispered to the new girl. She gave her a friendly handshake before picking out a book from her pile and started reading it, giving darting glances to both girls to let them know she was still willing to have a conversation.

River blinked a few times, dumbfounded when the Hufflepuff girl stood up and took a few of her books to place them on the table. She hadn't been expecting that at all. "It's no problem for us! Take a seat...!" The girl smiled at River excitedly, motioning towards the seat in front of where the pureblood girl stood. River gracefully took a seat, having to restrain herself from slumping in her seat as her anxiety faded a small amount at the warm welcome.

"I'm Emily by the way," the girl whispered. River quickly found herself returning Emily's handshake, her mask slipping slightly as a small, polite smile spread over her lips. "River Luxley, Heiress to the Noble and Ancient House of Luxley." The formal greeting felt a little too cold in the face of Emily's kind introduction, but it had practically been an instinctual response.

Well after 7 years of pureblood etiquette lessons, that shouldn't be all that surprising.

Emily returns to her own pile of reading material, eyeing River and the other girl every few moments as she read, clearly still interested in speaking with them. River looks over to the still unidentified Slytherin girl, noticing the book in front of her.

"Oh, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them', I love that one! We have a First Edition copy in my family's library, aisle 9, bookcase 13, shelf 3, 3rd from the right," River rattled off before realising that remembering things in such detail like that wasn't normal for most people. It was hard trying not to seem too abnormal with her hypermesia. Sure, having a perfect memory was nice and all for schoolwork since she doesn't really need to do additional research or look for specific books to use for citations, but she knew she could be a little creepy with how detailed she described things sometimes. It was one of the biggest reasons for why she'd been feeling so homesick lately, her parents and tutors were already used to her quirks and going from being almost completely isolated to going to school with about 1000 strangers was still taking some getting used to.

Violet looked up from her book as she was being spoken to. She smiled at the girl that had presented herself as River as she recognised the books and showed an impressive attention to detail as to remembering where a copy had been placed in her family's library. ''I love it too, the creatures are so mesmerizing I just can't stop reading about them. I can't wait until we get to take Care for Magical Creatures class!'' Violet said in a hushed voice.

Violet then put her quill down on her parchment, the piece at the top of her pile would show a quick sketch of a diricawl. She followed Emily's lead and reached her hand over to River. ''I'm Violet Moon, it's nice to meet you. Both of you.''she said, giving both the girls a nod. She then looked over at River's pile of books which was rather impressive, just like Emily's. She felt joy at seeming to have made two acquaintances that she had something so majorly in common with. She nooded towards their books and her own. ''I reckon we will have snagged all the popular books at this point.'' she said jokingly, flashing a smile towards Emily & River.

''I love it too, the creatures are so mesmerizing I just can't stop reading about them. I can't wait until we get to take Care for Magical Creatures class!'' The other Slytherin girl whispered as she set down her quill upon a rather impressive drawing of a diricawl, reminding River of the dozens of hand-drawn sketches she had up on the wall of her dorm. Perhaps we could draw together sometime, she thought with a small hint of excitement.

River accepted the hand offered to her as the girl introduced herself, ''I'm Violet Moon, it's nice to meet you. Both of you.'' Violet then glanced at Emily and River's rather large stack of books, nearly covering the entire library table with the sheer number of them. ''I reckon we will have snagged all the popular books at this point.'' Violet joked with them in a calm voice, flashing a gentle smile. River had barely suppressed a rather undignified snort, although her polite smile softened into a smaller but no less real smile.

She gazed over her collection of reading materials, "It should be fine with my books, I'll just be giving these a quick look over before returning them to their places," she gave the two girls a somewhat sheepish look, a slight red tint spreading over her pale cheeks, "Since I can remember things with perfect detail I can just memorise the book and 'read' it in my head later. I have Hyperthymesia, so it is quite literally impossible for me to forget things."

Oh, Merlin, you shouldn't have said that, River! Now they'll be creeped out by you! Stop telling them how weird you are!

Emily kept glancing between everyone's stash of books while River and Violet were talking. She spotted a few books she had read before, some she had used as references for other classes and some she had never seen before. She was brimming with excitement. With the banter across the three of them it felt like she stumbled upon a laid-back and comfortable book club.

Emily laughed quietly at Violet's comment over snagging all the popular books. "No doubt we'll be well prepped for classes then," she added. She also smiled when River returned her handshake, though Emily's formal social instincts kicked in at her introduction. It was a force of habit to become straight and proper when interacting with other folks from high esteemed backgrounds... Something which "Auntie" was slowly but surely teaching Emily to relax with.

She took a peek at Violet's copy of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." Being in First Year, Emily still had a bit of waiting to do before she could take classes in "The Care of Magical Creatures," but she nevertheless joined in the excitement as the other girls discussed the topic.

"I'm not sure about you two, but I think studying Magical Creatures at Hogwarts will actually be pretty exciting...!"

She kept the statement short and sweet, knowing how infamous she was for tangents any time she was given the chance to talk about anything. However, she couldn't help but feel in awe when River brought up her impressive memory.

"I think that's really cool!" Emily said, keeping her excitement to a quiet tone. She had to remember she was still in the library after all. "I feel I can relate a little to that. I know I'm one of very few people who might admit this or perhaps the only one to be like this, but I love reading simply to accrue knowledge. Every little fact or story can be both useful and interesting."

She held her tongue a little bit to allow herself to breathe. Even when she knew to be mindful of rambling, she still nearly went on a tangent.
