"Yeah, I guess if it was trained and small like baby-sized!" Rosie shrugged, giggling a fit after she imagined herself petting a minute dragon. Then she realized what she was doing. "I'm sorry, I promise I'm not laughing what you had said, I'm laughing about what I had just imagined if I petted a small dragon."

"Maybe," Rosie said, giggling too. "Also, if that doesn't happen, I think I'll like to write a book about books being portals, perhaps you like to help me write or illustrate the book?" Rosie continuing, smiling as she loved books and writing together.

Rosie giggled after listening what Kaitlyn had to say about homework. "That's so true! People get moping about and bored. Unless its math, I'll go crazy for homework about magic!"

"Me neither, I don't why that spell was even created," Rosie said, looking to the floor, she couldn't imagine life without any of her siblings.

Rosie listened to Kaitlyn's comment as she looked intently at a portrait as if she wanted to speak to it, but she didn't, instead she whispered to Kaitlyn, "Your welcome," She smiled quietly at first, "ok, then, we don't wanna wake her up, she knows me and yeah, lets just say, she doesn't appreciate me much after waking her up, coming from the library," Rosie continued, whispering and tip-toed past the portrait. She stopped when she was in shadows and waited for Kaitlyn to tip-toe past.

Kaitlyn giggled at Rosie’s mention of a baby dragon. “That sounds like it could be cute …. Just, how does a dragon look like as a baby?” She smiled politely at Rosie’s attempt to cover face to her intentions. “Hey, I never said that I thought you were making fun of me. Thank you for the clarification. And, I don’t mind if you do laugh at me,” she replied.

“Ooh, that sounds interesting. I’d love to be a part of it in whatever you think I’d be best at,” Kaitlyn smiled brightly. As much as she enjoyed drawing, she also knew how to write. Sadly, she didn’t think they were that good, but that was her opinion.

“Aw, really? I like math though. When I was in school, I jumped at the opportunity of math homework,” she replied, seriously. “But, I totally agree with you on magical homework!”

Kaitlyn nodded. “As first-years, I hope we don’t have to worry about that,” she frowned.

Hearing Rosie, and seeing her tip-toe past the painting, Kaitlyn didn’t question it. She followed Rosie’s lead and tip-toed past the portrait. Once she was successfully across, and in the shadows, she looked at Rosie. “How can anyone not appreciate you? A person or a portrait. I think you’re cool,” she whispered.

Rosie shrugged. "I don't know, 'bout the size of an ostrich egg, or something like that, I never seen a dragon before," Rosie thought of a dragon egg she had seen in books. "Ok, I thought I had insulted you or whatever, dang, I guess this want happens when your a half blood and loves books," Rosie continued, giggling about what she had said.

"I bet you're great at both, Kaitlyn!" Rosie smiled as she replied to Kaitlyn.

"Oop, well, I just don't like it because its hard. Isn't that a stupid way to not like math? Kelly thinks it is, but she always been smart. In second grade she was already mastering 7th grade math! Although, she shouldn't be leaving Hogwarts next year, she's really supposed to be in 6th year but they moved her up!" Rosie explained. 'And she keeps bragging about it,' Rosie thought to herself.

"Me neither, that just sounds horrific if a first year knew that spell," Rosie nodded, agreeing with Kaitlyn.

After hearing Kaitlyn, Rosie put up a finger to her mouth, gestured to the stairs quickly and raced quietly to the stairs. Once she reached the first step she made sure it wasn't the trick step and she whispered, "I woke her up and I kinda did the next day and the day after that, so er, she kinda hates me now, even after I apologized at least five times so I don't know actually," Rosie shrugged her shoulders and gestured to Kaitlyn as she walked up the stairs.

“Oh, that sounds awesome! Still scary, however. I hope to not see one, either,” Kaitlyn giggled. ‘Although, the nerd part of me would love to see one … and I’d love to get a chance to draw one, too. But, also, like, I don’t know … don’t dragons breathe fire? I’d have to make sure that I would not get injured … and probably stay far, far away,’ she thought.

Kaitlyn gently shook her head. “I promise you, you have not hurt my feelings. You’ll have to try harder if you wish to hurt my feelings,” she giggled. ‘Or make fun of me for being a muggle-born,’ she thought.

A light flush enveloped her cheeks as Kaitlyn giggled. “Aw, thank you! I’ll help you with it,” she smiled brightly.

Kaitlyn giggled at Rosie’s thoughts about math. “I mean, there is no such thing as a stupid reason unless you think it’s stupid. So, if you hate math, you hate math. And I think you’re smart, even if you don’t like math,” she smiled sincerely at Rosie.

Hearing Rosie’s comment about the killing curse, Kaitlyn nodded. “Yeah, that would be scary,” she agreed.

Kaitlyn nodded and raced quietly to the stairs with Rosie. While she had no idea what was going on, she trusted Rosie. “Aw, I’m sorry. You’re so sweet, though; I don’t see why she’d hate you still,” she smiled. She followed Rosie up the stairs.

Rosie nodded, agreeing with Kaitlyn. "They sound scary, even as a baby," Rosie giggled. 'Real scary,' Rosie thought as she remembered a picture from a book, that was photographed by a wizard. "I sure hope not! I don't like hurting people's feelings," Rosie said with a honest smile, she thought about her siblings, was she hurting them when she annoys them? Nah, they do it to her. She relaxed again.

"Your welcome! Next time we're in the library, we can do it, but I bet we're gonna get detention if we stay here longer!" Rosie said with a giggle.

Rosie smiled, she was glad and somehow amazed how Kaitlyn could stay so calm and not so offended. "Ok, well I think its a stupid way to hate math, because, its... Well... Stupid," Rosie giggled at her words.

"Very, I was surprised Coral even knew it," Rosie agreed with Kaitlyn again.

"Its fine, portraits are aren't even really people, I don't even know how they make speaking portraits," She giggled quietly as she remembered the time she was with the portrait. "Thanks, I'm not sure either," Rosie said, shrugging her shoulders. "Ok, follow me and be quiet or you'll wake the portraits up and then the whole school be up before you can say, uh, 'Portrait?'" Rosie giggled quietly and turned to the second flight of stairs.

Kaitlyn nodded in agreement to Rosie. “So, so scary,” she agreed. Her curiosity was getting the best of her, but she had to remind herself that dragons were dangerous creatures. There was a reason for why one did not see them at Hogwarts. She smiled brightly at Rosie. “You haven’t, don’t worry. I think you’d know if you did,” she giggled.

“Awesome, I’d look forward to it. That’d be a weird reason to get detention. But, something tells me serving a detention with you would still be fun, anyway,” Kaitlyn giggled. “But, yes, we shouldn’t risk it.”

Hearing Rosie’s words about math, Kaitlyn shrugged and giggled. “I mean, that is your opinion. Arguing won’t change how you feel,” she smiled. And besides, if Rosie thought it was a bad reason, who was Kaitlyn to change her mind?

Kaitlyn nodded to Rosie’s words about Coral and the killing curse. “I guess it can’t be helped if that information is out there,” she mused, feeling uneasy that it was so easy to find.

“They seem so life-like, however. I was very flabbergasted when I first saw them. I never saw portraits move at home,” she giggled. She flushed lightly at Rosie’s instructions and nodded. “Ok, Rosie, I’m sorry, I’ll stay quiet,” she replied, as she hurried after the Ravenclaw.

Rosie nodded, "Very," She imagined a dragon from her muggle books she would get from her father, they would be way different from the wizards books. Rosie nodded and smiled brightly at Kaitlyn's words.

"Yes, detention sounds fun, but I don't wanna break any, okay, a few rules, Cade and Coral have broken so many," Rosie giggled muffled as she was covering her mouth so she wouldn't giggle that loud.

"People have opinions, its what I've learned with me and my siblings," Rosie said softly, snickered afterwards and smiled bright as she remembered those fun times.

Listening to Kaitlyn, she nodded and said, "The curse just gives the shivers."

Hearing Kaitlyn's comment about magical portraits she said, giggling, "When I was little, Kelly would show me pictures of her wizard friends, and they would be moving, I squeaked, scared as I was never seen that before, Kelly thought it was funny for weeks!" Rosie remembered the first time she could remember but that was when she was used to the elastic moving portraits.

"Your good, just watch out for this step," She mumbled as the two headed up the second floor. Rosie squeaked when they got to the top, she had tripped and almost fell first if she hadn't clamped a hand on the banister. "I'm good," She muttered to Kaitlyn, her giggling muffled as she clamped a different hand to her face, picking herself back up as she gestured to Kaitlyn again and raced to the third flight of stairs, her giggling still muffled.

Kaitlyn giggled quietly at Rosie’s thoughts about detention. “I’m not against having one … especially if I deserve it. I feel like my best chance at getting one is when I’m helping a friend,” she whispered with a shrug. “Did your siblings tell you what type of detentions they give here?” She asked, curious.

“Oh, I bet,” Kaitlyn smiled at Rosie. “But, I don’t believe in judging based on siblings. If I even knew your siblings, I wouldn’t pre-judge you,” she replied.

Kaitlyn nodded to Rosie’s comment about the Killing Curse. “Me, too. It’s scary to think about … I don’t understand the hatred that must be evident to even justify using it.”

Hearing Rosie’s story, Kaitlyn giggled quietly. “I get that, as I had similar thoughts when I first came here. I wasn’t scared, however. I was heavily confused. I refused to talk to the portraits for a month. Even after I started … I was still very embarrassed. I’m still freaked out by them,” she whispered, glancing warily at a nearby sleeping portrait.

Listening to Rosie, Kaitlyn adjusted her movements to be careful on the indicated stair. When Rosie fell, she placed her hand on Rosie’s back in support, but the girl got back up pretty quickly. “I’m glad,” she whispered back. Giving Rosie a smile, she continued to follow her up.

Kaitlyn continued to walk up the stairs. ‘I find the castle so magical …. oooooh, what’s this?’ She trained her eyes on the staircase, having never noticed a carving of runes on the banister. She looked up and down the banister, noticing the runes completely covering it. ‘Aah, and I, of course, do not have my sketchpad,’ she thought. Slowing down considerably, she grazed the runes with her fingertips. ‘Oh my, I’d love to know what these mean, they look so cool!’

While her mind was elsewhere, Kaitlyn missed a false step and fell on the stairs. “OOf!” She exclaimed, bruising her arm, from its contact with the staircase. She immediately jumped up and shook her head. ‘I’m not supposed to be up … what am I doing here? Ah, but I need my sketchpad the next time I’m in this stairwell. But, for now, I should just go back to my Common Room. And maybe sleep soon, I am tired.’

Turning around, Kaitlyn began the long trek back down to the Slytherin Common Room. The entire time, she watched her feet to keep from tripping again. Her movements were slow, and not as graceful. The effects of just falling on the stairwell. And also because she didn’t wish to be caught outside of her dorm at night. ‘Although … I guess that isn’t a bad reason to get detention.’ She eventually returned to her common room, slipping inside for the night.
