@Warren Kirkland
It wasn't the first time he had seen the Quidditch field, but the sheer space of the outdoors still left him breathless after all this time. It was a clear windswept day. Clouds flew over the bright blue horizon and a gust ruffled the hair and robes of the students. Coach Barnaby stood in the middle of the field, supervising the group of students as they all chose groups to work with, yelling over them with a loud voice. He was still chomping his bloody cigar, and Isaac couldn't help but feel a bit miffed that he didn't realize how it was spritzing ash everywhere.

The Gryffindor had unfortunately come late, and it seemed as if most groups had already formed. There was a far off one with Ilowy, and a pale haired girl and dark-haired boy he didn't recognize. The group looked fairly full, and he decided that he didn't want to make it any fuller.

Shrugging, Isaac decided to go in and join a random group. A mass of boys were encircling around the broom, and he nudged them aside so he could see what was going on, aware of the glares he was receiving. It turned out that the biggest boy was perched on the broom, and he was having quite a bit of trouble at getting it to rise. Every time he almost lifted off, a chorus of hopeful yells rang out, but he ended up falling again. The last time was especially harsh, throwing up dirt where he landed. Ouch.

"Can I have a go?" he asked. But he was drowned out by the clamor. "HELLO?" he called out, but he was apparently ignored this time too. How irritating. Walking to another group, he finally found a worthy broom. And they were nice enough to share it. Summoning it into his fingers, he slid himself onto the broom easily, ready to fly.

But suddenly, it shot out from beneath him and rocketed into the hands of another kid. And oh, did he begin to see red. "Bloody hell!" he cursed as the blonde kid zoomed past him on the broom, flying upside down. The thief was enjoying himself while he whizzed through the air, tapping the head of the pale-haired girl and calling out over his shoulder.

"Oi, you twit!" he shouted up at the blonde boy, "Give it back or I'll take it back!"

Suddenly, all the eyes were on Finn to rise up into the air and show what he could manage on a broom. He didn't fancy himself much of an avid flyer - he did have a small dream to be a part of the Quidditch team, eventually, but currently he was much more invested in his studies. Think of it as a class, he reminded himself. He steadied himself over his broomstick, attempting to clear all distractions from his brain, as he recounted step-by-step how to maneuver the broom.

He had done it before, but it never got old - the feeling when your feet leave the group and dangle was invigorating. His mouth stretched into a wide smile as he rose to meet Warren's height. His eyes shot a daring glance at Warren. He knew he wasn't allowed to knock some sense into him, but teasing him should be alright. "You seem to have a knack for rustling everyone's jimmies!" He cried to the boy, flashing a toothy grin.

Still hovering in the air, he glanced down at Illowy for a moment, looking for approval at his confidence, before he decided simply stagnating wasn't going to do him any good. If he ever wanted to even attempt to join the Quidditch team, he was going to have to get used to flying. Taking a deep breath, he leaned forward on his broom and shot off, flying a couple meters down from the group before looping upside down and whizzing back past them, laughing as he went. As soon as he emptied his thoughts of his nerves it seemed to come as natural to him as walking itself.

Sincerely, Finn Valois

Illowy offered up the slightest of smiles as Finn rose up into the air and took off, hopefully the attempt to rattle Warren the way he was rattling everyone else. It never failed to impress her how naturally all of this was coming to her friend. Flying had certainly proven not to be her strong suit.

The Slytherin had made it a point to ever mount a broom until she didn't have a choice, and even then she never moved higher then a few feet off the ground, clinging to the shaft white-knuckled, like a cat trying not to fall. Today, as much as she wanted to think she could get over her fear of falling and flying, she could feel in her stomach that today was probably not to be the day.

Wrapping her arms around herself, pale hues followed everyone else through the skies as they zipped and glided, some even feeling cheeky enough to pull a couple stunts. Just wanting the kids fall into spins and loops was enough to make her stomach drop and her heart skip. She could just see herself doing something similar, only it would definitely not be on purpose.

No, certainly no rush. She'd sooner pass the broom along to someone else impatiently awaiting their turn before she'd risk her own neck.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Did he do... something wrong?

He knew that his social skills weren't exactly perfect and that trying to make friends wasn't as easy as adding one and two, but what had he done that was so incredibly ridiculing? Enough so that Abigail had popped off at him no less! Curious by this development, and a bit worried for his own well being, Warren flipped himself upright and hovered well above the angry head of white.

"Pardon my french, but don't be so bloody ridiculous," he waved a weary hand toward Abigail before drifting a few feet away from the blistering girl. She was kind, he knew this, and perhaps he'd done something wrong in hindsight, but as far as he was concerned he hadn't done anything compromising. Least, students seemed to be too busy socializing rather than actually grabbing hold of the vacant brooms. Although, one boy in particular seemed to have had his jimmies rustled, too.

In the air, Warren whizzed his head toward Finn and then toward the bigger boy experiencing his own dilemma. A small set of fingers pushed up the large lens on the crook of his nose, and Warren kicked his boot at the air with a cheeky grin stretching ear to ear. Laughing impishly, he jeered, "Tsk, tsk, tsk, Lion. Name calling? Hitting me? Taking stuff? First come first serve! Also, it's improper to toss fisticuffs in a field unregulated."

The snooty boy sighed and lifted his head back upward and settled his attention onto a boy who appeared to be less offended by his actions. An innocent grin flashed toward Finn, and Warren twirled his wand in a small circled before switching his hands and adjusting his glasses once more.

"Apparently. A bit of magic and spice is what makes the world go round, innit? Plus, this is super duper fun! My brothers made flight a lot easier for me I tell you what," he giggled something fierce, a hand hiding away his chuckles as he kicked his boots and rustled his robe. The air was springy and tipped with a slight chilly breeze; perfect for enjoying the skies as they always should be.

Blinking downward toward the rest of the gaggle that had begun to circle beneath both Finn and himself, Warren rubbed his chin and then tilted his head as he witnessed Abigail continue to lose her temper alongside the scarier Gryffindor. Whistling low, the young Slytherin sent Finn a slightly taunting smile. His smirk appeared was coy, mischievous, but a bit weary all things considered.

"I've really done it this time, haven't I? I'm a bit worried, though! To be fair I don't think it's quite all right to go smashing teeth in a courtyard. Innit that somethin'," he mused openly, his thoughts running like an endless mill. His expression lifted, however, with a childish glee as he locked his ankles and zipped forward like a tiny bumble bee. His laughter rang out as he sped up and turned back around to hover at Finn's side, and he waved down at Abigail, Illowy, and the familiar face of Isaac.

Feeling a bit daring, Warren sat up straight on his broom and balanced himself. He rose up his left hand and wiggled his fingers in the air as a taunt, his thumb pressed to his cheek and a loud raspberry being blow toward the hotheaded students below. Despite their wrath, and despite acting a right fool, Warren came off incredibly calm if not a touch unsure of his own safety.

We can't win everyone over. Sometimes that was for the best, and he considered this briefly before reaching over and patting a hand onto Finn's shoulder. His small pale fingers squeezed at the robe on the boys shoulder, and he wiggled out his legs in excitement. Bubbling with glee, Warren would say, "Say, say, say! Wanna race me? Wanna play? I dunno about you, Finn, but all this mumbo-jumbo is makin' me right hyped for a freedom flight!"

"And so he was reading the story as if it were a spell and the words of it, spoken aloud, could make magic happen.”

Finn wobbled a bit on his broomstick when the white-haired boy met him in the air. He steadied himself, extremely aware of the distance between him and the soft grass below, and cocked an eyebrow at Warren. Once again, Finn had absolutely no idea what he was saying. Still, he was able to decipher that Warren was, indeed, challenging him to a race. His eyes shot down to the professor - was it allowed? His eyes found Illowy and fixated on her, almost as if he was non-verbally asking for permission to take Warren's offer.

Finn was a bit impressed by Warren's seemingly utter lack of fear. While he remained upright, with only one hand to secure himself on his broomstick, Finn was hunched over and gripping the handle for dear life. While he knew he and the broomstick were connected when it came to flying, there was a certain sense of safety that came with the sturdiness of the wood against his hands - if he tried hard enough, he could almost trick himself into thinking it was actually a method to keep grounded.

He let his mind wander back to what he'd experienced at Hogwarts so far - overall, he'd had two successful attempts in pushing his boundaries further than he thought possible. If he were to back out of Warren's taunts now, he felt he'd be going backwards in his progression as a wizard. He let his blue eyes land on Warren and gave him a sideways smile. "Alright then. What do I get if I win?" While he didn't actually believe he was capable of winning, he'd learned that confidence was often the key to victory.

Sincerely, Finn Valois

Part of her wasn't surprised that the pale blonde Slytherin would be foolish enough to want to race. That was possibly one trait that most Slytherins really did have; the need to be better. They were known for their ambition after all. What better way to know you needed to shut your mouth and work on yourself then getting your hiney handed to you by a Hufflepuff?

As Finn passed her a look of question, her own eyes flickered back and forth between the two boys, as though sizing up if Finn stood a chance. Wither it was against the rules right now or not, she didn't know, but if it were, she was sure the two wouldn't be in that much trouble for one little race. Icy hues returning to her friend, she passed him a little crooked smile before giving a slight nod of her head, as though signally for him to kick the other wizard's butt.

The girl crossed her arms over her chest, ready to watch the boys from the safety of the ground. Illowy had confidence in the boy. She believed he was stronger then he might let himself believe, and the girl couldn't help but try to foster that confidence. Even if he did fail, at least he'd given it a shot.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

@Finn Valois
That idiot.. he thought furiously, glaring at the figure of Warren in the air. He was apparently challenging Finn to some sort of race from the looks of it, and he couldn't help but feel a bit of pity for the Hufflepuff. The boy was clinging onto his broom like a cat stuck in a tree, fingers tightly wound around the top. His voice was confident, but Isaac couldn't help but feel that he would end up falling off his broom sooner or later, either by a rogue wind or a shove from his competitor.

Meanwhile, Warren sat on his broom as if he didn't have a single care in the world, balanced effortlessly despite the currents of air. His spectacles flashed in the sunlight, outlining his platinum blonde hair and superior expression. Isaac was dying to wipe that irritating smirk off his rat-like face. Who did that git think he was?
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, Lion. Name calling? Hitting me? Taking stuff? First come first serve! Also, it's improper to toss fisticuffs in a field unregulated."
He ignored Warren's taunts, knowing that getting more angry would be useless. It wasn't as if he could knock him off his broom from the ground, considering he didn't know magic to do that, and he couldn't throw something to hit him. Instead, Isaac peered up at the Hufflepuff on the broom. Waving his arms, he shouted to Finn, "Kick his rear end, would you! Send him straight to hell! You can do this!"

Lucian strolled into the after hours flying practice, glad to have the sun on her skin, although it was quite bright for her liking. The grounds had many students standing outside, while the professor walked out and began to lecture them on what they would be doing that afternoon. She zoned out, letting herself be brought back to her time flying over Knockturn Alley with Oberron, appreciating the misty air and the peaceful dark. Her brother had taught her how to fly at a young age, first on a training broom, then letting her steal his on occasion. A broomstick had always reminded Lucian of these adventures with her brother, one of the few times she felt totally and completely free; on a broom, her cold exterior had opportunity to melt away a bit.
As the professor finished his speech, Lucian watched as the students around her began to form groups, sharing brooms and fraternizing over tedious topics. She wasn't quite sure where to go, or who to speak to, or whether or not she even wanted to speak to anyone. She'd always found making friends to be a pointless and tedious task; that it was much more efficient to make allies, and leave it at that. She continued to search the grounds however, knowing that part of the instructions were to join a group; she just needed to find the one that would give her the least trouble.

The backlash of his actions were a tiny bit confusing to the silver tongued child, but he held true to his word and kicked his boots in the air as a light taunt to those less fortunate on the ground. Shifting his focus from Finn to the collective complains blaring beneath the soles of his boots, Warren stuck out his tongue and blew a fat raspberry at the scraggly crew.

"Stolen is the wrong term. I'd say I've borrowed what was placed for everyone to use! Plainly put; first come first serve, silly," he chortled and slapped his hand at the brooms stick while kicking his feet at the air. He was a bit like a gremlin. The cheeky smile only grew further, however, as Abigail's anger continued to snap at him in the form of a quizzical inquire. Pursing his lips, he tapped at his finger and leaned his broom downward, the nose pointing a bit toward Abigail as he eyed her behind a the tint of his glasses.

"I'm not a nut, but I'd consider myself more a... Gosh, what's the word," he paused and looked toward Finn before picking up with a loud laugh, "I'm definitely a winner!"

As the others began to crowd beneath the two of them, Warren positioned himself back at Finn's side and gripped at the broom with both hands. Fingers strummed at the wood as he steadied himself into a pleasent hover, and for the smallest of moments he took in a deep breath and relished in the springy air that graced the courtyard. The afternoon was splendid and truly was perfect for an adventurous string of flight. Whether or not the Professor approved of their silly little race, Warren adjust his glasses and turned to smile at Finn who appeared more bold than he let on.

... Had the grip on his broom been anything go by he'd say otherwise, but those eyes spelled challenge.

Warren opened his mouth to respond to the remark of what the other boy would get for winning such a race, but he was swiftly interrupted by the shout of that same Gryffindor who had yelled at him a few minutes earlier. Puffing his cheeks, Warren eyed the boy who was trying to promote violence with a stern glare. Aiming to throw me off this stick midair, is he, he thought bitterly.

Annoyed by the shouts of kicks and hits, Warren snapped his head forward and let out a small sigh. "It's never okay to hit people," he says quietly to himself.

Looking outward toward the heads of students below, Warren looked around before finally returning his attention back onto Finn. Things were starting to get out of hand, and that simply won't do. Bringing another smile up on his face, Warren wiggled his fingers on his broomstick and began to do a giddy giggle as he nodded toward the sky. Humming, he wiggles his eyebrows and then smirks.

"Before we were rudely interrupted; to answer your inquire, Finn, if you win then I'll do whatever you say for one whole hour! If I win then I'd like you to be my friend," he added that last part with an almost child like cheeriness. His grin grew tenfold, and he kicked his boots out and leaned down on his broom. Eager to start, Warren shot Finn one last look before he nodded.

"On the count of three," he started, his hands gripping firmly to the pole of his broom. Glasses shifted on his nose, but he paid them no mind as he readied himself and locked his ankles beneath him.

"Three," he pauses and eyes the students below and their eyes on Finn. Clearly, the lot had a winner in mind...

"Two." What would become of him if he lost? Surely, he'd be mocked and laughed at. That was fine.

"ONE! GO!"

With a jump, Warren whisked forward through the air like a green little wasp. To him it wasb't about winning or losing or getting his teeth kicked in my angry kids, but he wanted to make friends! He was a bit strange, yes, but he figured it was part of his charm?

Maybe?

"And so he was reading the story as if it were a spell and the words of it, spoken aloud, could make magic happen.”

Flying had been one of those experiences that Angellica both anticipated and dreaded. New things were exciting, there was no doubt, and yet the unknown was something she still had trouble to cope with. She had read about it, watched games, even gone through the Quidditch Through the Ages book her father had in his study. He was an avid fan of Puddlemere United, and a secret fan of Falmouth Falcons, and thus she had taken a liking to them. Of course she knew she couldn't just grab a broom and join the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, she hoped she could, if only to add something to her background, to prove her ability to organize her time, to show diversity, but mostly to gain that coveted acknowledgement from the one person that refused to give it.

Broom in hand she made her way towards the lot on the grounds, arriving just in time to hear the professor's words on the matter. She recognized a few faces, Abi for one. They had ridden the train together, which had been nice to say the least. With a soft smile she gave a wave, but made no movement to interrupt the ongoing discussion. There were a few other students that seemed on the quieter edges, and she offered soft smiles all around, leaving herself quietly open to anyone that might light to join.

Settling the broom on the ground she stood beside it, her feet the width of her hips, a hand carefully placed over the handle of her chosen flight contraption. It was borrowed from the school, until she could one day buy her own, or convince her father to send her one. Until then, she planned to make due with what she had. "Up!" she exclaimed firmly, watching the item give a good wobble."Up!" she called again, the broom coming off the ground a bit more fervently, but not yet in hand. "UP!" With the third try the wooden length shot up into her hand. She felt a warmth in her palm, breath shaking as it left her lips in quiet excitement. First things first, she was already succeeding. Now the truth would come as to whether or not her feet could leave the ground and how she would do with the immensity ahead and the freedom it had to offer. As a child she'd played with those toy brooms that let her feet graze the grass. Her best friend had shared his broom with her when their parents weren't looking, or perhaps they had been. Either way, she knew this would be quite different from that.
