Interacting with @Sienna Caldwell Date - 12/09/23 WC 299/200 Color Legend - Mylo | Thoughts It was nearly halfway through the week and Mylo had decided to take a little break outside, they'd finished their classes for the day and currently didn't have any homework to do so he'd decided to treat himself to a bit of fresh air and a sit down.
It was a lovely day, the sun was out, the sky was nice and clear and it was warm enough that Mylo had decided to go out without a jumper on, but still with a long sleeved t-shirt on, even the wind was quite warm. Walking on the grass Mylo took a deep breath, enjoying the smell of the nature around them, and looked around for a nice spot to sit. Spotting a tree a few feet away with a nice bit of shade and sun he decided that that would be their seat for the time being.
Having made themselves comfortable resting against it Mylo closed his eyes, just enjoying the sounds of the birds, leaves rustling in the wind and the other students that had decided to spend their afternoon outside. The past few weeks had been amazing, Mylo loved learning about magic and the history behind it, and couldn't wait to learn more and tell their family about it.
Opening their eyes and looking directly into the sun unfortunately did bring them out of their thoughts for a bit, blinking they tried to regain their vision after being attacked by the light of lights. Deciding to play a little game he took out a pack of cards he had in their pocket and set up a game of round the clock. It was something their pa had taught them and he loved the mindlessness with which he could play it. Just letting their thoughts wander he started playing.

Sienna Caldwell was wandering around the grounds for a little while after she had finished playing some quidditch for fun. She often liked to take strolls on the grounds after practicing, mainly to breathe some air that wasn't in the castle for once. Well, she did catch some air while playing quidditch, but it wasn't the same with her feet not being on the ground.
She wasn't entirely alone in this matter though; there were many other students at Hogwarts who walked the grounds during their free time, especially during a nice day like today. Other students were walking, sitting on the ground talking, studying, or simply sleeping. Though she wasn't entirely sure why people would want to sleep on the dirty ground.
Sienna also spotted a student sitting up against a tree with what looked like a deck of cards. Well how do you play cards by yourself? As she got closer, she realized it was Mylo with the cards and a timer. They seemed really focused, almost so focused that she didn't want to interrupt, but it would've been rude not to say hello anyway.
"Mylo, hi! I didn't expect to see you here." She wasn't really sure why she said that, the grounds were an open space, anyone could just go when they wanted. "Are you playing cards all by yourself?"

Interacting with @Sienna Caldwell Date - 12/09/23 WC 366/200 Color Legend - Mylo | Thoughts Lost again! he thought, gathering the cards up once again to reset the game. Mylo had been playing for at least 15 minutes by now and had done a few matches, none of which had lead to victory. That's the one thing Mylo liked about this game, there were no strategies, no way to give yourself a better chance of winning unless you cheated, the entire thing was based around luck. And although he loved their fair share of strategy games there was just something about the fact that you could play this game mindlessly, turning the card around, placing it at the right spot and repeat. All the games so far had ended with 4 kings in the middle signaling defeat, but he wasn't quite done yet.
Shuffling the deck of cards and setting out another round of cards Mylo started thinking about some students he had seen with pets, they had been thinking about maybe getting one themselves, preferably a cat, but they'd have to see if he could leave it at school during the breaks or if there was some magic that would make it so that the cat wouldn't shed. He'd always wanted a cat, but unfortunately his dad was allergic to them and as such they had never been able to get one, but maybe with magic it would be possible.
As they had gotten about halfway through this round they heard someone call out his name. Looking up they saw Sienna approaching, they'd gotten to know each other on the train and Mylo had thought her quite nice, so he was pleased to see her again.
"Hey! Yeah, I finished my classes and I didn't have any homework so decided to sit outside for a bit and play some cards. It would surprise you how many games you can play on your own, currently I'm playing round the clock, do you know it? Do you guys actually have regular cards? I've seen some kids with these magical cards, I believe they're called exploding snap but they don't look like cards you'd want to play regular games with." He states having had a thought and just letting it ramble.

It had just occurred to Sienna why Mylo would enjoy playing cards outside. Sure she liked taking the occasional stroll, but she was only realizing now, how peaceful it was to spend time doing work or playing a card game outside was. It certainly gave one time to think and relax away from all the chaos that was the Hogwarts Castle.
Mylo responded to her question, with many questions of their own. If she hadn't known Mylo, she likely would've been overwhelmed by all of his questions. But since they met on the train, she had gotten quite used to it.
She understood how he felt, having finished classes and not wanting to spend all of their free time with a nose in the books. "I completely understand. I usually take walks out here in my free time after quidditch practice."
As they continued speaking, she looked down at the cards arranged in a circle. It dawned on her that the clock referred to in card games wasn't an actual clock, it was the shape that the cards were arranged in.
"No actually, I've never played cards. I just realized that an actual clock wasn't even required to play this game. Kind of silly to think I guess." She continued, answering his other questions. "Honestly, I'm not sure if we even have regular cards. I guess I've just never gone looking for them."
She stayed silent for a few moments before asking a question of her own. "I don't mean to sound weird or anything, but would you mind if I sat here and watched you play. I think I'd like to learn how to play, or at least attempt it."

Interacting with @Sienna Caldwell Date - 12/09/23 WC 545/200 Color Legend - Mylo | Thoughts "It's really nice out here, taking walks and such. Especially when the weathers nice." He states, apparently Sienna was also one to like taking walks around the grounds. Although it didn't really surprise them, she seemed like someone who liked the outdoors.
Sienna went on to state that she had never played cards before, which kind of shocked Mylo, he couldn't imagine never have played a single game of cards. It was somewhat of a tradition in his household that they'd play a card game together each week, it had become their highlight of the week. But as soon as she finished off the sentence it made a lot more sense.
Apparently Sienna had never seen a set of 'regular' cards, and wasn't even sure if the wizarding world had them. Although Mylo was sure they had to have regular cards somewhere, the snapping cards weren't exactly the best for regular card games.
"It's not silly to think that to be honest, if you've never seen a card game before then yeah, you could imagine it like that. Also I don't mind you watching at all! I can teach you how it works as well, it's actually one of my favourites, you can't play it with multiple people though. I'll restart the game so that I can explain it to you properly."
Picking all the cards back up into the pile and shuffling it he goes about setting up the next game al the while explaining it to Sienna.
"So first you want to shuffle the cards, then you want to start laying them out in a clock shape. Like so," he places the cards in a way that makes it look like a clock, with one card in the middle. "then you also want to have one place in the middle, this is where your kings go. That's the K by the way. Then you keep putting cards down on top of each other, following the circle and when you get to the 12 putting one down in the middle and starting back at the 1 place.
All of these cards need to be face down, don't forget that. After you have no more cards in your hand you flip over the top one in the middle."
Mylo flips over the middle one revealing a 7 of hearts.
"The shapes on the cards don't matter, but the numbers do! This is a 7, now I need to put it where the 7 on the clock goes. I put it on the bottom of the pile and turn over the top one on the same pile. And I repeat that until I win or lose. If you turn over a king it goes in the middle and if you draw 4 kings and you can see them all in the middle you lose. If you turn over all the cards in the circle and you don't have all the kings in the middle you win! I hope that makes sense."
Hoping the explanation was good enough Mylo decides finish of the round he'd dealt and show her the game in progress like she'd asked.
"I'll finish this one off, if you want you could have a go after me?"
