Soon to meet Élodie Dubois @Danielle Alden
It was another dreary night. The wind howled outside the manor as rain poured down, hitting the windows and roof with loud noises. Adrien sighed. He was in his room, standing in front of a tall mirror beside a table. He reached up, adjusting the uncomfortably tight white collar he was being forced to wear. Fidgeting, Adrien gave up and finished buttoning his olive green suit. Why must all these clothes be so uncomfortable? He blinked, observing his reflection in the mirror. Tall, dark-haired, handsome. He knew many girls already had their eyes on him, and were trying to arrange relationships already with his parents. The Beaumont family was rather old-fashioned in their way of thinking and ideology, and they still thought that arranged marriages were perhaps the best way to go. Their son couldn't marry someone other then a pure-blood, obviously. They wouldn't have any blood traitors in their family. Adrien swallowed, pawing at his collar again. It really was quite itchy. Giving a low sigh, the boy tried to flatten his chocolate coloured hair once more before abandoning the mirror and heading to the door of his room.

As the young heir walked through the hallways of the vast manor, he sighed once again. These balls were always such a bore. His parents would invite the wealthiest pure-blooded families in France, who often had the personality of cardboard. His mother would always remind him to act like a gentleman and behave in a manner deserving of his nobility. Which basically meant to smile, and nod, and kiss the ladies' hands, and grin and bare all the insufferable small talk. Adrien stepped into the entrance hall, where his mother and father were waiting to recieve the guests, along with many servants. Lady Chloe Beaumont, Adrien's mother, was wearing a luxurious deep purple gown topped with rows of lace. She had dark hair, much like her son, that was up in an elegant twist. Her eyes were blue, however, and sparkled in the light as she gave last orders to the servants before the guests arrived. Lord Sébastien Beaumont, Adrien's father, had brown hair as well. He had dark eyes, like Adrien's, and was tall and broad. Dressed in a suit of blue velvet, he looked very gentlemanly and forbidding.

"Ah, Adrien, mon cheri my dear, there you are!" Lady Beaumont beckoned to her son, and he slowly walked up to her outstretched arms. "Let me look at you." She scanned him up and down with her piercing gaze. "Stand up straight, boy!" Lord Beaumont barked as he looked at Adrien as well. "Act like a gentleman! Our guests will be here any minute!" Adrien stiffened, then nodded and tried to straighten his shoulders. "Very good, mon cheri my dear, you look wonderful." Lady Beaumont planted a kiss on his cheek, then stepped back to wait in her spot by the door. Adrien assumed a position close by. His parents always wanted him around to greet the guests.

Trying extremely hard not to fidget with his uncomfortable white collar, Adrien stood in his spot, waiting. His mother issued a few last second hasty instructions to the servants, and then straightened up regally as there was a loud knock on the grand double front doors. Adrien grimaced, making sure his mother didn't see. And so began his night of torture. A servant rushed to open the door, and the pure-blooded families began to arrive. Adrien smiled, and nodded, and kissed the ladies' hands as they cooed over how gentlemanly he was and what a fine son the Beaumonts had. He suffered through the first ten minutes. As the guests arrived, they were greeted and then shown into the large dining hall, where the feast would commence as soon as all the families were present. Adrien leaned over and tried to whisper to his mother, "Is everyone almost here?" His mother smiled. "Yes, we are waiting for one more family. The noble house of Dubois. I hear they have a daughter your age, and that she is quite lovely and refined. And she has not been engaged yet." Adrien stared at her in shock as she smiled at him. "Your duty tonight, Adrien, is to entertain the young Miss Dubois. You must talk with her, and stay with her, and perhaps something can be arranged with her parents?" She gave a light tinkle of a laugh. "Ah! And here they are now!" Lady Beaumont gestured for a servant to open the door as a loud knocking was heard. Adrien gulped as he waited for the girl his mother wanted him to court to come inside.

In between her elder brothers, Élodie followed closely behind her Mother and Father as they approached the Beaumont Manor. The only member of their family missing was the youngest daughter, Célina, as she was too young to attend any lavish ball without ruining the Dubois family's reputation. Her father knocked on the large door as they waited for a servant to get the door and allow them inside.

For the most part, Élodie despised these balls. Even though she was young, her parents constantly tried to find a suitor for her hand in an arranged marriage, which often meant that Élodie was forced to either dance with or make awkward small talk with whichever young man had been decided upon. Not only that, but the process of being prepared for a ball was strenuous, long, and often began many hours before the beginning of the actual event.

Having been prepared by her governess, Elizabeth, Élodie's hair had been pulled and yanked into an elegant half-up-half-down style, leaving a few strands to frame her face and the rest curled. Applied on her face was minimal makeup, such as a light layer of mascara that made her blue eyes pop, a tiny bit of blush to make her cheeks rosy, and red lipgloss, all to enhance her natural beauty. The dress her mother had selected for her was a stunning, flowy, black, tulle ballgown that accented her waist and possessed a bateau neckline. The barely visible silver heels she adorned only added an inch or two to her height, and to finish off her look for the night, she wore expensive, diamond jewelry and smelled of her signature jasmine scent. When she'd descended the staircase after she'd finally finished getting ready for the Ball, she received nothing more than a nod of approval from her father and a small smile from her mother.

Entering the Manor as a servant let them in, Élodie observed the room, finding that they seemed to be one of the last families to arrive. The rest of the ballroom was already filled with other French Nobility and their children of dull personalities, already chatting or dancing the night away. Approaching the Beaumonts, Élodie took a place at her mother's side before greeting the family with a respectful curtsy.

Straightening her posture and holding her head high, she took notice of the handsome boy dressed in an olive green suit who stood with them. Assuming that this was the son of Lady and Lord Beaumont, she gave him a kind smile before watching as her mother greeted Lady Beaumont happily.

Soon to meet Élodie Dubois @Danielle Alden
Lady Beaumont rushed forward, skirts swirling elegantly. "Ah! Bonjour Hello, welcome! We are graced by your presence this evening." She swooped in to kiss each of Lady Dubois' cheeks, then curtsied to Lord Dubois. Lord Beaumont bowed, then kissed Lady Dubois' hand gentlemanly. During this interaction, Adrien stood next to his parents, uncomfortably waiting for his turn to greet the guests. He clasped his hands behind him. Suddenly, he caught sight of the lovely girl standing beside her parents. That must be the eligible young lady his mother had told him about. She was very beautiful. Adrien averted his eyes.

Soon, it was his turn to greet the guests. He bowed stiffly to the family as his mother looked on approvingly. He then kissed Lady Dubois' hand. "Bonjour Hello," he said. "Ah, Adrien, allow me to introduce you to Mademoiselle Élodie Dubois!" Lady Beaumont smiled broadly as she gestured to the girl. Adrien's breath caught in his throat as he looked into her sparkling blue eyes. He bent down and brushed her dainty hand with a kiss, bowing deeply. "What a pleasure it is to make your acquaintance, Mademoiselle," Adrien said as his parents began to lead the Dubois family into the dining hall where the rest of the guests were. He noticed his mother had intentionally left him and Élodie behind, probably hoping that he would accompany her to the dining hall. He awkwardly clicked his heels together, trying to think of something to say.

"Would you allow me to accompany you to the dining hall?" he asked finally, forcing himself not to stare at her beautiful ball gown. He just hoped she wouldn't be as boring and stuck-up as daughters of nobility usually were. He didn't know if he could handle it. "This way," Adrien offered his arm to Élodie, and began to lead her into the dining hall. It was filled with people, and very noisy. He ignored the satisfied look his mother was giving him from across the room as he walked with Élodie to the grand table, looking for their place cards. He found his, and sure enough, beside his was Élodie's. Of course his mother had arranged that. "Mademoiselle," he said as he pulled out her chair for her.

Adrien Beaumont @Genevieve Delacourt
Élodie observed the interaction of Lord and Lady Beaumont with her parents, before looking over to see her elder brothers greeting the small family with a respectful bow. She found all the formal greetings quite exhausting and boring to the point where Élodie had to force herself to be attentive and not roll her eyes or zone out in boredom.

Keeping attention on the Beaumont family, she watched on with curiosity as the young boy proceeded on with his introduction, bowing to her family rather stiffly before kissing her mother's hand and saying a quick "Bonjour." Élodie's eyes then snapped towards Lady Beaumont as her name left the woman's lips, addressing her son with his name. Adrien.

Her eyes snapped back to the handsome boy, and she soon found herself locking her blue eyes with his brown. A soft smile appeared on her lips as he bowed deeply, brushing his lips against her hand before speaking to her. She once again curtsied after he stood up before speaking, her voice soft and sweet, "The pleasure is all mine, Monsieur."

Élodie gazed at the boy with a small smile before she looked around the room for a brief second, discovering that her mother, father, and brothers had left with Lord and Lady Beaumont, presumably to the dining hall, and that she was alone with Adrien. She sighed as she realized that she'd probably been left with him on purpose, either by design of her parents, or his.

Looking back towards Adrien, she watched as he awkwardly clicked his heels together, trying to come up with something to say so they weren't left in complete silence. In the small moment of silence, she observed his appearance in much more detail, a small blush coming over her cheeks as she openly admitted to herself that he was indeed, quite handsome. Ridding the thoughts from her head, and hoping Adrien had not seen her cheeks go rosy, she locked eyes with him again as he asked if she would allow him to accompany him to the dining hall. "Of course." She smiled, nodding politely at him before taking his offered arm and letting him lead her toward the bustling Dining Hall.

The many overlapping voices made the noise inside the dining hall louder than she expected. Her blue eyes flicked around the table at the place cards as she followed Adrien's lead. Soon enough, they'd found their names, Élodie's card right next to Adrien's.

"Merci thank you." she said softly as he pulled out the chair for her. Taking her seat, she watched as Adrien pushed her seat in before taking his own. She straightened her posture, glancing down at the table before turning to Adrien once again.

"I suppose they're watching us. Our parents, I mean." she stated, quieting her voice so only Adrien could hear. "I'm also going to assume that we are to be with each other for the majority of the night. So how about we ignore the noble, pureblooded etiquette as we speak to another?" she suggested, wanting to make the night bearable and possibly even fun with Adrien. Élodie then continued, proceeding to invite him to address her by her name, "If you so wish, you may call me Élodie." She smiled softly. Her name was much better than being addressed to formally as mademoiselle.

Talking to Élodie Dubois @Danielle Alden
Adrien started as Élodie spoke to him in a low whisper. So she had noticed that their parents were observing them as well? How awkward... Adrien blinked at her next words. She wanted to ignore the noble etiquette? That was a first. He blinked again. She was... different from the others. He could tell. Clearing his throat nervously, and once again fidgeting with his starched white collar, he looked up into her deep blue eyes. "I see," he said, trying not to sound so stiff and unfriendly. "Élodie," he added hastily. "And, if you wish, you may call me Adrien." The dark haired boy smiled at the girl, dropping his hands to his knees. He looked down and swallowed. Why was talking to a girl this hard? It felt like his mouth had gone dry. This was a very different kind of torture than he had expected. Not boring, more humiliating. Adrien looked up again, and was immediately drawn to her delicate smile. He found himself admiring the way her soft red lips curved gracefully, and swallowed once more.

"So, will you be attending Beauxbatons this fall?" Adrien immediately regretted the foolish question. Of course she would be going to Beauxbatons, all the children of the wealthy French nobles attended there. He began to feel quite warm, and hoped his face wasn't turning red. Goodness, why was this so hard? He glanced over at where his mother was sitting, chatting merrily away with other guests. Sometimes he really did not appreciate her. "I mean, ahem, are you looking forward to it?" Adrien hastily tried to make amends. He really couldn't make normal conversation this evening. If his mother wanted him to court Élodie, he certainly wasn't doing a very good job of starting it. He swallowed, and forced himself not to reach for his collar again. Goodness, it was insufferably itchy.

She watched as he blinked in shock. Maybe suggesting to ignore the etiquette was the wrong move. She shifted her eyes to the table in front of her for a minute before turning back towards him as he cleared his throat and tugged at the collar of his shirt. A small smile came across her face as he then agreed, telling her she could address him as Adrien if she so wished. She watched as he looked down and dropped his hands to his knees. "Alright then, Adrien." She nodded to herself, locking eyes with Adrien's brown ones once more. She was glad that they knew that when not around their parents, they could relax.

The two sat in silence for a moment before he asked her if she was attending Beauxbatons come fall. A smile fell on her lips as she giggled softly at his foolish question while he tried to quickly fix the question. Her hand came up to fix one of the strands of hair that framed her face before answering, "I am quite excited. It'll be nice to not be under the eyes of my mother and father as often." she said, thinking ahead to all she could do at school that she couldn't at home. "I know I probably shouldn't, and my parents wouldn't be too happy if they knew, but I think I'll join the Quidditch team." She admitted to him, not to sure why she decided to trust him with that information. She looked down at her lap, her hands fiddling with the fabrics of her dress. Ever since her brothers had taught her to play in secret, Élodie fell in love with the sport. As long as her parents didn't find out, she was in the clear.

"What about you? Are you excited?" she asked, looking back up and into his brown eyes.

Eating next to Élodie Dubois @Danielle Alden
Adrien felt his face turn even redder as he heard Élodie giggle. He watched as she reached up to touch her hair, as if she needed to fix it. It still looked perfectly lovely to Adrien. He tilted his head. "I understand that feeling," he said softly. "I feel I am constantly being controlled by my parents, and being watched and looked over all the time." He looked away, as if ashamed to admit it. Adrien had been taught from a young age never to talk bad about his parents. He glanced up, surprised, as she mentioned quidditch. This dignified young lady racing around on a broomstick? Adrien simply couldn't see it. He tilted his head again. "Really?" he asked, smiling in amusement. His chocolate coloured eyes began to twinkle. "Yes I am excited, but not about the quidditch, more about the academics and the independance." He felt troubled as Élodie looked down. "Don't be ashamed, you should never be ashamed of your dreams," Adrien reached forward without thinking and gently raised her chin up with his right hand. Her chin was soft. After a second, he jerked his hand away, startled by his own daring.

"Right, right, well-" he began to stutter. Suddenly all the chattering around the dining hall ceased as Lord Beaumont, Adrien's father, stood up in front of the table and cleared his throat. He made a little speech about how grateful he was to everyone for coming, and how he hoped they all had a wonderful evening. After the speech and the blessing, he announced joyfully: "Now let us enjoy this marvelous food!" Lord Beaumont clapped his hands twice, and instantly servants came in through both sides of the hall, carrying platters upon platters of delicious steaming food. They set them all carefully on the table, then bowed and made their exit. There were so many different dishes, rows of dressed meats, all kinds, and baskets upon baskets of bread and rolls. There were many different sides as well.

Grateful for the distraction, Adrien hastily filled his bowl with boeuf bourguignon. He properly placed his napkin in his lap, then lifted his spoon and began taking delicate sips. He could taste carrots, onions, garlic, and more in the delicious steaming beef stew. He politely took a slice of hot buttered bread, and began tearing off chunks to dip in his bowl of stew. Adrien was savouring his meal, even though he was trying to eat very politely and gentlemanly. He looked over to see what Élodie had filled her plate with, curious to learn what a young lady like her might eat.

Adrien Beaumont @Genevieve Delacourt
Even though it felt a bit wrong to speak about their parents in that way, Élodie nodded in agreement with what Adrien had said. It was nice to finally speak her true feelings to someone who felt the same. Sure it was nice, to live a comfortable and lavish life surrounded by luxury, but that life had its downfalls, and having little to no freedom was one of them.

She watched as he glanced away, probably feeling the same way she did before he looked at her again, a surprised expression on his handsome face as she mentioned wanting to join Quidditch. As she locked eyes with him after looking away, she saw the twinkle in his eyes as he talked about how he was excited about the independence and academic aspect of attending Beauxbatons. "Yes, well, I suppose that will be nice too." she spoke softly. She was excited for the independence and the academics as well, though she wasn't too thrilled with the homework aspect of said academics.

Glancing down again, Élodie was surprised when she felt Adrien's hand raising her chin as he spoke about how she shouldn't be ashamed of her dreams. A rosy blush spread across her cheeks at his actions, too stunned to do anything except gaze into his eyes. The two were like that for a brief second before Adrien snapped out of whatever he'd been overcome by, stuttering over his words. Élodie's own eyes snapped away at the same time as she coughed lightly, hoping to clear her flustered state, her eyes flicking back to Adrien every few seconds.

Just as she was about to speak, she was immediately silenced by Lord Beaumont clearing his throat, about to make a speech. Élodie's etiquette kicked in imminently, her posture straightening, her hands going to fold themselves in her lap, and respectfully giving all her attention to Lord Beaumont as he spoke.

Once Lord Beaumont had finished his speech and clapped his hands twice, Élodie finally diverted her eyes away from the head of the table as servants walked in with all types of different French delicacies. Elodie waited for all the food to be placed on the table, nodding her thanks to the closest servants. Only once all the food had been put on the table did she finally take her napkin and place it on her lap.

Surveying all the different options of food, she finally decided on a small portion of bouillabaisse, the popular fish soup originating from Marseille, where she resided. She also ended up with some bread on her plate as well as a small bit of steak tartare, keeping in mind to not take too much food, yet enough. Taking the correct utensils in her hands, she began to take small bites of her food, occasionally glancing over to Adrien to see what he had selected for his meal that night.

Finishing the bite of food in her mouth and taking a small sip of her beverage, water, she spoke as she tore a small piece of bread off, buttering it. "You mentioned being excited about the academics at Beauxbatons. What class do you think you're the most excited for?" Once she'd finished speaking, she dipped the bread in her bouillabaisse, eating it.

Continuing to eat with Élodie Dubois @Danielle Alden
Holding back a barking laugh, Adrien observed as Élodie completely changed when his father began to talk. Her head jerked towards him as if on a string, and her back went ramrod straight. He tried not snort a laugh, instead trying to focus on his father as well. It was hard. Lord Beaumont rambled on for quite some time, uselessly, in Adrien's opinion. It was hot in the dining hall, and stuffy, and everyone just wanted to eat their food already. At least, he did. He couldn't speak for all the people in the room. Inadvertantly, his eyes darted to Élodie.

Adrien watched, impressed, as Élodie choose bouillabaisse. She had good taste. He took another sip of his stew, observing her out of the corner of his eye. No, she certainly wasn't like all the rest, that was for sure. Unbidden, a smile sprang to his lips. He cleared his throat. "Oh, I haven't really thought that far ahead," he admitted sheepishly in response to her question. "My parents have just repeatedly told me that Beauxbatons has top notch education, and I guess I like learning. Depending on my mood. It will be nice to actually learn with other students, and not just with boring old private tutors." Adrien shifted in his seat, a grin barely visible on his features. He looked around slyly. "Nod to old Miss Fournier over there," he nodded towards an older lady with a pinched mouth and a high collared black dress. Her hair was pulled up tight in a bun. She looked thoroughly uphappy with the world. "She was one of my first tutors, and she's been here the longest. Can't stand the woman," Adrien gave a mock shudder for Élodie's benefit.

The rest of the meal passed by quickly, with Élodie maintaining her lovely manners and Adrien eating everything he could get his hands on. Soon, Lord Beaumont rose from his seat once again and made another announcement. The feast would be ending soon, and then all the guests would be transitioning into the ballroom, where the dancing would start! He smiled and bowed, then sat down once more. Adrien groaned. Dancing with all the young ladies was always his least favourite part of the evening. He could dance quite wonderfully, though, having been taught since he was two years old.

Adrien Beaumont @Genevieve Delacourt
Élodie ate another small spoonful of her bouillabaisse as Adrien responded to her question, admitting he hadn't thought that far ahead. However, she did nod in agreement with what he said about Beauxbatons and their high level of education and learning with other people. "I can agree with that. It'll be nice to not be privately taught." she said with a small laugh. "However, regarding subjects, I think I'll quite enjoy charms and astronomy."

Élodie then glanced in the direction that Adrien had nodded in to point out his private tutor. A woman on the more elderly side, she looked quite unpleasant and uptight, almost a complete foil to her tutor. She laughed as Adrien shuddered for emphasis on how much he disliked Miss Fornier. "My tutor, Elizabeth, is nearly the opposite! She's taught me since I was young and she's honestly one of the sweetest ever!" She smiled softly, thinking of Elizabeth and her kindness. Besides her brothers and now Adrien, Elizabeth was one of the only people who knew of her passion for quidditch.

Élodie continued eating her meal, finishing up her bouillabaisse and starting on her small bit of steak tartare. She kept up her immaculate table manners, her blue eyes occasionally flicking over in Adrien's direction. As the meal progressed, she found herself becoming more relaxed in the environment. Adrien wasn't like the other stuck-up, haughty, prideful, pureblooded boys she'd been forced to spend evenings with at other balls and it showed.

Élodie finished off her last bits of steak tartare, glancing down the table to the head where Lord Beaumont once again stood up to speak. She set down her utensils, once again transitioning all her attention over to Lord Beaumont, a smile appearing on her lips at the mention of transitioning to the ballroom for dancing.

Élodie quite enjoyed dancing, even if it was ballroom dancing. She'd been learning how to ballroom dance for as long as she could remember, so not only did she have incredible skill, but as she'd grown up, she'd found she enjoyed dance a lot more than she thought she did. She glanced over at Adrien, seeing quite an opposite reaction from him as he groaned. "Don't enjoy dancing?" she asked in a teasing tone, a smile still on her face as she nudged him with her arm.
