The Library was huge. The shelves, lined with hundreds of tomes, would usually make Alexandra shake with excitement. However, this was not a "usual" time, and she was, unfortunately, in quite the harried state. Scrolls of homework, piled in her arms, almost obscured her pinched expression, but her wide, brown eyes managed to peak over the stack, until she spotted an empty little corner near the windows. Her arms felt sore as she quietly dropped the scrolls onto the desk, and sat down, tying her frizzy hair back into a bun. It's only the first year, her brain whines, why are they giving us so much work?

After what felt like hours, Alexandra finally gave up. Her eyes hurt, and words seemed to swim in her vision. She could barely read the dates in her History of Magic book, much less memorize them, so, she deemed it officially time for a break. Her bones creaked and popped (I'm 11, how am I already so old?!!) as she stood. She decided to explore the library, in search of a book, any book that would take her mind off of history.

It was almost inevitable that she found herself in the section of Magical Creatures. She felt particularly homesick as she stared at the book titles, remembering how her father would read from these very books to get her to sleep. In her nostalgia, she picked one with a dark blue cover, about sea creatures, and made her way back to her corner. However, she startled at seeing another student there, and immediately held the book a little tighter.

"Excuse me, I'm really sorry, but I was sitting here? That's my homework..." She fiddled with the edge of her Slytherin tie, clearly nervous at the interaction.

Accidentally sitting in @Alexandra Grey's seat.
Viva felt her body relax as soon as she entered the library. She didn't know exactly why, though. Perhaps it was the wonderful musty smell of old books, perhaps it was the whispers of turning pages, or perhaps it was the rows and rows of tall bookshelves that reached to the ceiling. Her heart always gave a leap when she saw those. Ah, Viva loved books. She was often called a nerd at her old muggle school because she was never seen without a book. Here at Hogwarts, she had begun to do other things as well, but that didn't mean she didn't still love to read! She took a few steps forward, noting that there were many other students in here as well, likely working on homework.

Unfortunately, that was what Viva was here to do as well. Homework. The practical bane of her existance. Why the teachers insisted on assigning so much, she'd never know. Right now, her main priority was to write an essay for Potions class on the properties of moonstone. To Viva, that wasn't as terrible as, say, a History of Magic essay, but it was still pretty bad. An essay was an essay. Viva walked slowly among the tables, searching for an open space. She clutched her book bag to her side, which contained her textbooks, writing utensils, parchment, and whatever else she might need during the long school day.

Her bright blue eyes lit up as she saw an open table. A whole table?! How lucky. Viva hurriedly stepped forward, and sat down in one of the chairs. She placed her book bag beside her, and opened it. Unfortunately, Viva could be a little oblivious at some times, and she completely didn't notice the books and scrolls already on the table. She was very focused. She pulled out her textbook, and a piece of parchment, and a quill, and then she was ready to begin. She flipped her book open to the chapter on moonstone and began to read, engrossed in her studies.

Suddenly, the sound of a voice right next to her made Viva jump, causing the chair she was sitting in to tumble to the floor, taking Viva with it. Feeling quite embarassed, Viva's cheeks were turning as pink as a peony as she hastily tried to untangle herself from the chair on the ground. She flushed even deeper as she realised her skirt had flown up in the fall, and she shoved it back down immediately. She didn't even have a chance to look at the person who had spoken, and hadn't really heard her clearly either. Viva was feeling utterly humiliated as she continued to struggle on the floor.

Alexandra startled at the reaction, clutching her racing heart. The green tie around her neck felt almost suffocating as she watched the other girl fumbling on the floor, She'd barely expected the other girl to even hear her, much less fall out of her chair. Guilt ran rampart through her, making her fingers tremble. Her eyes snagged onto the pages of the other's open book, and managed to recognize the moonstone, although in the face of her current predicament, it didn't feel very relevant. Maybe I'll ask about it later, a little voice said, although she quickly dismissed it in favor of helping the other.

Her dark hair fell around her face in frizzy rivulets as she reached out for the chair, fumbling with her robes to lift it and help the other girl righten herself. "Are you all right?! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," she squeaked, the strong Scottish accent a terrible contrast to her soft words, "Here, I'll help you up."

Good going Grey, she thought to herself, You terrified the poor girl.

She reached out a hand, her fingertips stained with dry ink. Alexandra felt her cheeks color as she took notice of her state, and cleared her throat nervously. "I'm Alexandra. What's your name?"

Apologising to @Alexandra Grey
Sunbeams were trickling in through one of the library windows, and hitting Viva directly in the face. Temporarily blinded, Viva reached out her hand to grab the girl's, grateful for the help. She blinked at the strong Scottish accent she could hear. Still blinded by the sunlight, she couldn't really tell who was helping her. Someone she didn't recognise, that was for sure. Fumbling around as she stood up, rearranging her robes, Viva finally got a chance to look up and see who it was. Another girl, around her own age by the looks of it, with wide startled brown eyes and long curly hair. She looked small, but not as small as Viva.

"Um, hullo," Viva said awkwardly. "My name is Genevieve Delacourt, but most people just call me Viva." She tried to make eye contact and gave a small smile. This whole thing was just embarrassing. "Um, so sorry for stealing your seat," she mumbled. "I didn't even pay attention to the fact that there were already things here," Viva shifted her foot around on the library floor. She felt really bad now, and hoped she could make it up to Alexandra somehow. Viva shuffled to the side, moving out of the girl's way. She reached down and grabbed her belongings, stuffing them inside her book bag.

Alexandra's face caught fire as she watched the other girl pack her things, her hands falling back to her sides. "Goodness, it's alright! Ye can have the seat, I'll just grab another seat! The table is plenty big, I'm sure we'll both fit, yeah?" Alexandra looked around, and winced at how much more full the library had become since she'd arrived, but she kept a smile on her face, her freckles bunching up around her nose, and looked back at Genevive, "Look, I spotted an empty chair over there. I can grab it and we'll both be happy, yeah?"

She didn't wait for much of an answer before darting away, grabbing one of the heavy oak chairs and dragging it back to the table near the window. Alexandra may not have been too inclined to give up her spot, but she'd settle for a compromise!

As she settled herself beside Genevive, she began messing with her hair, trying it back into a messy ponytail on the back of her head, "So, Viva, right? What're ye studying? I was looking through Potions but I couldn't make sense of half of it! I'm a big fan, yeah, but all of this stuff about the Forgetting Potion is really makin' me dizzy!"
