Emily walked out of class feeling quite pleased with herself. Nearly full marks for her Defence Against the Dark Arts homework... she must've been a bigger fighter than she thought - God knows she hid it well apparently, according to "Auntie."

She took a walk along the courtyard for the rest of the morning before her next class was due. It was nice sunny morning, though slightly cool in the breeze, yet still warm enough to feel fresh in the open air. So far, everything was working out well today.

She reached the loch, realising she wandered a bit too far from where she had planned to go originally, but since she had time on her hands she didn't mind admiring the peaceful waters that surrounded her. It reminded her of home; the large house that sat by the marsh, watching the view from the balcony on the top floor as the tide came in, seeing a few nearby fisherman pushing their boats out to whom she'd wave to before it would get dark. Speaking of which, she ought to remember to write to "Auntie" soon. It's been a few days since she last spoke to her after all.

She then suddenly spotted two students a little further ahead of her. She immediately recognised one of them... Emmanuel! She hadn't seen too much of him since the Sorting Ceremony, so it was a lovely surprise. A girl was with him. She looked familiar too. Then it hit her.
Oh right...! She's in Hufflepuff too, she thought. She's even in the same dorm as I am. Though she felt ashamed for not knowing her name... then again, she was sure they hadn't properly met yet, though Emily had passed by her a couple times on the way between classes.

She came over to both of them, waving at them with the same friendly smile she always had with her.

"Hi! Fancy seeing you out here!"

Em heard the familiar voice behind him, and turned his body, letting his knee fall into the water to support him as he looked in the opposite direction. A smile spread across his face, as he saw Emily move towards them.

"Well hello, Emily! Meet my friend, Eirunn. Though, you may-have already since you're both in Hufflepuff!" He laughed, gesturing over to the rather damp girl. "Where are you coming from so early? Eirunn and I's first class of the day doesn't start for another half-hour! I wanted to get some slugs gathered before heading to Herbology,"he explained, looking back to the water.

Emily's presence must've been a good luck charm, because he saw a rather large slug move under a rock. He reached into the lake and over turned it, finding three slugs in total. They were a brownish-green color, and trying to move away from the sudden sunlight. Em plunged his hand in, down to the elbow. The cold water stopped bothering him as he quickly scooped them up, and added them to his collection jar. Four so far; many more to go.

Em had an appreciation for Eirunn, she was correct in not letting the water bother them. Although he doubted he would take a full plunge, getting the sleeve of his uniform wet was enough to set him free of his previous concern in remaining dry. It was more important, he realized, that he have fun and actually gather the slugs; rather than be alone and remain pristine.

Emily beamed as she came over, splitting a friendly grin between Emmanuel and Eirunn.

"Eirunn! I thought I recognised you," she said kindly. "I don't think we've properly met, have we? But my name's Emily. It's nice to finally get to know you...!"

Emily felt a little shy and awkward as if she had just interrupted a private moment between the two of them. But then she noticed the slugs in Emmanuel's hands. It must've looked strange, though the curiosity was evident in Emily's eyes as she bent down and got a quick look at the slimy little critters being gently placed in a jar that Emmanuel had with him. Unlike her parents, Emily loved getting her hands dirty and stroked the back of one of the slugs with her pinky finger.

"Oh my! Those are curious things to carry around with you, Emmanuel," she chuckled. "I just came from Defence Against the Dark Arts... I figured I could take a small break before heading to Herbology myself!"

She watched Emmanuel stick his hands back into the water of the lake and lift out three more slugs. The size of them made Emily's jaw drop in awe. She placed her hands underneath Emmanuel's as he handled them, adding them to his jar of slugs already caught, lending an extra helping hand just in case.

She noticed Emmanuel and Eirunn's uniforms getting a little bit damp. Emily rummaged through her back and laughed sheepishly.

"If I had a tissue or something to help you two dry off, I'd give you one. Sorry about that..." However her concern was quickly replaced with a sense of relief as she saw how much fun they were all having in spite of it all.
