New Books, New Friends
Brynlee was more than ecstatic to begin her classes at Hogwarts. So far, she has perfect attendance, has never been late on an assignment, and spends nearly all of her free time roaming and reading in the library. She has a plan to read at least half of the books in the library before she graduates, and she wants to get started immediately. She's read five books so far, the next one even more interesting to her than the last.
Since she just finished her fifth book, she's back in the library in search for her sixth. After she returned the book to the librarian, she began to once again roam the numerous bookshelves, reading title after title looking for the perfect book. She read a title about mermaids, one about faeries and pixies, and nearly all of the magical creatures of the Wizarding world. She sighed and walked out of that section. She didn't want to read anything on creatures until she started Care of Magical Creatures, hopefully, next year.
She walked into another section of the library and began reading the titles the way she did in the last section. As she slowly moved along, the titles got more and more interesting. Finally, she came across a book with the one word Brynlee was secretly hoping for; Aurors. Smiling, she took the book off of the shelf and walked over to an empty seat, curling up and tucking her legs underneath her. She eagerly opened the book and began to read the first page.

New Books, New Friends
Lisa didn't particularly like books, not unless they were for something specific, like when she was reading screenplays and studying on dance history. But she could never get onto the ‘reading for fun’ train, there were just too many other things she could do.
Like study for her worst class, Potions. She hated that class. To be good at making them there were so many rules and it required being so ‘patient’ and ‘diligent’, and the Professor was equally as daunting as the subject. Lisa would trade Flying Class, or even History of Magic, for Potions. Fortunately Lisa always did excellent in Potions, so at least she had nothing to worry about concerning her grade.
But reading was such a bore. Libraries were so...lame! She felt claustrophobic, surrounded by hundreds of shelves and the sound of flipping pages, quills scratching, and light murmuring. It was just too quiet.
Not quite far from her was a girl who was reading a book. She seemed so intent and comfortable, Lisa just couldn't understand how. Hopefully it was something interesting, and not something like Arithmancy or something about History, which was Lisa's second least favorite subject.
Since she had been studying for quite some time, and because they were really the only two in this area of the library, Lisa cleared her throat loudly. Glancing at this girl, she said, “Hullo. Er, is that a—a good read?” She felt dumb for stuttering, but isn't that what bookworms said? She had no idea, Lisa was just trying to make conversation, though she felt like she failed miserable. Still, it was better than another hour of complete silence.

New Books, New Friends
Being someone who loves to read, Brynlee was already on the third chapter. She was absolutely loving the details the book went into, talking about all of the spells she would have to learn, all of the missions she might be able to go on, everything. At first, she didn’t hear the girl talking to her, but she did see someone out of the corner of her eye. She put down the book and smiled when her brain finally had processed what the girl said to her.
“Oh, it’s amazing! The details are incredible, the spells look so... intricate, the missions seem so fun!” She smiled wider and closed the book, sitting up straighter. “My twin siblings are both aurors, and they come home telling us, I mean me and my parents, the most wonderful things about their job. Ever since they both became one, I’ve wanted to be one as well. I might be small, but I want to be the best Auror Britain has ever seen!” She giggled softly and sighed, still smiling.
Looking back at the girl, her cheeks turned a light shade of pink as she realized she was ranting. “I’m sorry, my name is Brynlee Avalon Sage, Slytherin first year, and future Auror!” She grinned and held out her hand for the girl.

She was a little taken aback. Most of the bookworms she's seen were shy and mumblers, not vivid and expressive like this girl. She was glad, maybe they could talk about things, and maybe do something fun! She seemed fun enough, though she did kind of overdo it with stating her entire name. No worries, though, Lisa was still grateful for conversation.
“That sounds interesting! My great uncle was an auror for decades, and he used to tell me amazing stories too. But he said it's some crazy stuff, with all of the danger. That's why my grandmother doesn't want any of us to become one.” Lisa was glad she didn't have any interest in being an Auror, she didn't want to upset her grandmother.
She thought it was funny that Brynlee said ‘future auror’. She sounded just like Lisa when she was telling everyone how she was going to be a ‘future performer’; some people probably didn't believe in her but she believed in herself.
“I actually want to become a great performer,” she declared, smiling back. “That's why I'm studying acting, singing, and dancing, so I can be the best. My grandmother says you have to start at a young age...” Lisa missed her grandmother. Although she at least had her sister here at Hogwarts, who was a fourth year, her grandmother was someone she loved very, very much, and she always felt at her strongest with her by her side. Alone, she felt sometimes helpless, which she hoped wasn't that terrible since she was a Gryffindor after all. Weren't they supposed to be incredibly brave?
“I'm Lisa Loxley, Gryffindor.” So a Slytherin and a Gryffindor, one studying in boredom and the other reading for entertainment, what a nice pair. Nodding at the closed book, she asked, “So what exactly do you need to start doing, since you want to be an auror? Don't you have to do well in Defense Against the Dark Arts?” She was actually really curious.

"It's the crazy stuff that makes me want to do it." She laughed and shook her head, smiling to herself. She was very happy that this girl was talking to her. She could see them becoming the best of friends in the future. Her mind drifted off course as she imagined the two of them staying up late in the library, studying for their O.W.L.S, and maybe even staying friends after Hogwarts.
When the girl started talking again, Brynlee blinked her eyes and snapped out of her daze. “Really?! That’s so cool! I can definitely see you staring in some movies,” She laughed again. It was true, the girl definitely had a face fit for the screen, even if it wasn’t at its full potential yet.
The girl introduced herself, and Brynlee smiled even wider. “Well, Lisa Loxley, Gryffindor, I can tell we’re going to be very good friends.” Her cheeks were starting to hurt after all of this smiling, but Brynlee wasn’t complaining. Lisa pointed to her book and asked, “So what exactly do you need to start doing, since you want to be an auror? Don't you have to do well in Defense Against the Dark Arts?”
“Well,” Brynlee started, her eyes lighting up once again, “Yes, Defense Against the Dark Arts is the major one, but, in my opinion, you have to do well in all of the courses. It’ll look better on your application if you excelled in all of your classes, not just DADA. I’m not worried though, I’ve been preparing for these 7 years all of my life.” She sighed, then looked back at Lisa. “What about you? What do you have to do to become a performer?”
