First Day of Classes
Emmanuel followed the set of Ravenclaw students descending into the Dungeons. As a class, they had finished their first Charms lesson, and were moving straight on to potions with the other Hufflepuff students.
The air turned stiff, as the corridor grew darker. The natural sunlight that pierced the stained glass windowings of the castle didn’t travel this deep. The halls were illuminated by torches, all the way down a large spiral staircase. The door to the Potions classroom was ancient, and heavy. Carved dark wood with oxidized iron fixings. It was enchanting.
The class shuffled in together. Naturally separating into their respective houses. Before they could sit down, the Professor asked that the students pair up, one from each house.
Em moved toward the other side of the room, following a couple other Ravenclaw.
Em settled in next to a brown haired Hufflepuff girl. He gave her a quick once over, and was a bit overcome with how beautiful she was. Her pricing blue eyes were both intimidating, and welcoming.
Em pulled out his potions text book, and his pewter cauldron, and set it in from of them; looking forward to getting class started.
He cleared his throat, and straightened his tie (this had no effect on the crooked knot), and extended his hand.
“I guess we’re paired up then! I’m Em, nice to meet you,” he stated, a kind smile on his face.

First Day of Classes
Meeting @Emmanuel BourneViva was not very excited about potions. She hated slimy things, and had heard that many potions ingredients were utterly disgusting. Viva also did not exactly like the dungeon. It kind of scared her, with all the spider webs (shudder) and the eerie gloom. She had a forbidding feel as she pushed open the classroom door to reveal many students, all in blue or yellow. Oh, yeah, we have double potions with the Ravenclaws, she remembered vaguely from her schedule. Not really in the mood to talk to anyone for once, Viva walked over to an empty seat and sat down, plopping her book bag on the stone floor beside her.
She sighed, and rested her chin in her hands as she waited for the class to start. Suddenly, she realized there was a boy next to her. He had chestnut hair and brown-ish eyes that seemed to be watching her. Slightly startled, she began copying the boy and pulled out her textbook and cauldron. Viva felt a small smile cross her lips as the boy tried to fix his tie. He was smiling so nicely, Viva felt she had to return the sentiment. She reached her hand out to shake, then quickly pulled it back. "I'm Genevieve, but most people call me Viva," she said rather shyly in response to Em's introduction. "I like your name, what does it stand for?" she wondered, clenching her fists with some anxiety. Meeting new people always made her nervous.

First Day of Classes
Em shifted in his seat, not just to face the front of the class better, but to properly address his classmate.
“It’s short for Emmanuel, Emmanuel Bourne,” he shrugged casually. “How are you liking Hogwarts so far?”
The question was almost common place here at the start of term. Between the gaggle of eleven year olds, and the mix of different backgrounds; they had to land on a commonplace question they all could relate to.
Em took in the classroom beyond Viva. It was rows of potion stations, with two burners on each table. The walls were lined with bottles of varying size, some full of jewel colored glimmering liquid; others full of preserved organisms.
It was comforting to Em. It reminded him of the back stores of his family’s shop. The only thing missing was the lavender-vanilla smell his mother was famous for.
Em could feel his face showing his longing of home, missing his mother. Yet, he was eager to learn.
He pulled out a jar of leeches, still wiggling in a like green liquid. He held it up, almost like a trophy.
“I popped down to the lake and forged these myself! If you need to borrow any leech juice, I’m happy to share!” Em offered, unfazed by the gnarly jar. For him, it was common place.

First Day of Classes
Talking to @Emmanuel BourneViva smiled. "I like that name," she said. "And I'm absolutely loving Hogwarts so far! I think it's the most amazing place I've ever been. You see, I've lived in the muggle world my whole life, and didn't even know about magic until I was around eight years old. What about you? How are you liking Hogwarts so far? How's Ravenclaw?" She blushed, realizing how many questions she was asking. "Sorry about all the questions." I hope he doesn't think I'm annoying, she thought. Sometimes she was a little too curious and irritated people.
She turned back towards her partner and was filled with concern. "Are you ok?" He had a wistful expression on his face, like he was remembering something he missed. All thoughts left her head, however, when he pulled out the jar of leeches. "Ew!" Viva shrieked shrilly, flapping her hands all over the place. Her eyes were wide. The leeches looked gross, still squirming in the weird green-ish liquid. "Ew ew ew!" She jumped up from the potions station and backed away, accidentally bumping into another pair's station in her haste to get away. Viva absolutely hated slimy and disgusting things, and those leeches looked very disgusting to her.

First Day of Classes
Em gave a chuckle at Viva's reaction to the slugs. It was surprising to him how different two people could be. Though, he figured it had to do with his Mother's insistence of teaching him to find his own potion ingredients.
"You never know what you're going to need, until you need it!", his mother's words echoed in his head, as he pulled back the leeches, and put them away in his bag (wanting his classmate to be more comfortable). He also wanted to avoid a scolding form the Professor, who was looking their way at Viva's reaction.
"Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to startle you," Em apologized, his cheeks turning rosy. "Please, sit back down, I'm so sorry!he pleaded.
Em took a moment to ensure Viva was okay, before answering her barrage of questions, a gentle smile on his face. "I grew up in the Wizarding World, so I always knew about magic. I really like Hogwarts! The library is huge, and the classes are really interesting so far. Well, except for Professor Binns' class. Ravenclaw is good, I'm finally getting used to all the stairs leading to the common room!"Em laughed, hoping the mood would settle quickly.
"Welcome to the Wizarding World! It'll probably make the muggle world seem a bit dull; though I was wondering: Do all of your pictures move and talk like ours? Or just the mover film ones?"He asked, casually.

First Day of Classes
Chatting with @Emmanuel BourneViva scowled, coming back slowly to their potions station once Em put his leeches away. "Are you laughing at me?!" She demanded, still embarassed by her outburst but trying not to show it. But she sat back down next to him anyways. "It's ok. Sorry for freaking out, I just don't like slimy things. That's why I'm a little worried about potions."
She smiled as he told her about his feelings toward the school. "It does seem pretty exciting here, but I wouldn't call the muggle world dull. We still have our fair share of excitement! And to answer your question, no, our pictures don't move, only the ones in film move. That was one of the things I had to get used to here, actual moving photographs!" She laughed.
"Do you know what you want to be after school? Like, what you want to do for a job? I kinda want to be a magizooligist, or do something with music, or maybe be an actress." She blushed. "I love theatre, it's kind of my passion. I've wanted to be on stage since I was a little kid. I know I would have to go back to the muggle world, but that's ok with me, I think." She shrugged, fiddling with her long braid.

First Day of Classes
Em smiled kindly as Viva discussed her hopes for the future. She spoke with a friendly fervor, quickly with lots of frillish inflection. It was charming, Em thought as he watched her mouth move quickly.
Her blonde hair was pulled into a braid, that she was fiddling with as she spoke. This wasn't a nervous tick in Em's opinion, but a mindless one. Viva seemed too sure of herself to be riddled with anxiety when speaking to a new person; regardless of if he had spooked her with a jar of slimy slugs.
Em secretly wished he could be as extraverted. Perhaps that was why she was in Hufflepuff, and him Ravenclaw.
Em redirected his focus to the content of her speedy words, looking back towards her eyes. Her comment about magizoology specifically caught his attention.
"My parents used to be kind of like magizoologists. They were part of a magical creature conservation effort. That's where they found and rescued our demiguise, Chica. That was awhile before I was born," Em mentioned, wishing he had a picture to show Viva (though, Chica would likely be invisible in it anyways). "Though, if she could talk, I'm sure Chica would say I'm her son." he laughed.
"I doubt you'd have to leave the magical world to be an actress though. There are many roaming theater tropes. My Great-Grandfather is particularly fond of this Irish one. They put on shows about old folk stories and fairy tails. I've seen them a million times, they've lost their intrigue with me unfortunately." Em adjusted his tools for the class, realizing the professor would start soon.
"I'd like to be a curse breaker for Gringotts, that seems exciting! Lots of action, treasure, adventure. I read stories about it all the time, though it tends to be fiction. But it's a real job, my Pa says so!" Em defended, lost in the daze of a life of adventure.

First Day of Classes
Speech: #4169E1Listening to @Emmanuel BourneViva tilted her head, listening to Em speak about his parents. "That's so cool!" She said, eyes wide. "I would love to visit wherever it is they work someday, and I would absolutely LOVE to meet Chica!" Her voice was filled with excitement. "A real, live, demiguise?! That sounds amazing!" She laughed, then listened to Em's next statement. "Hmm." She seemed pensive. "I suppose you're right! I wouldn't have to leave the Wizarding World, would I?" Cheered up by this prospect, Viva pulled her textbook in front of her, readying herself for class to start. "A curse breaker?" Viva asked, not quite sure what that was. "What's that?"
Having grown up in the muggle world, Viva didn't know all that much about the Wizarding World yet. She was learning, ever so slowly. Suddenly, her eyes darted to the front of the classroom as the professor began the first ever lesson of Potions class. Viva immediately shushed Em, and sat up straighter in her chair as she listened carefully to the instructions. Sometimes, Viva could be called a know-it-all. Or a nerd. Or a teacher's pet. She just wanted to do well in her classes, was that so bad? She got out a notebook as the professor advised them to take notes. Scribbling down the information the professor was shooting at them, Viva glanced over to see what Em was doing.

First Day of Classes
As the class started, their conversation came to an abrupt stand still. Em opened his notebook, and dipped his quill in the midnight black ink he purchased in Diagon Ally. His quill was fresh, and held the ink readily. Em was filled with anticipation for their first lesson in Potions. He knew it would come rather easily to him, at least for the first few years. His mother would show him pretty much every potion recipe in their shop's arsenal; although, omitting some of the more interesting or difficult to brew. Em felt he had a bit of an edge, especially for a first year. Even so, he hanged on every word that came out of Professor Regan's mouth.
After the lecture, they were turned over as teams to attempt brewing a cure for boils; a standard first year potion. Em and Viva were partners. They used her Cauldron, and his ingredients; as he already had quite the stock of basic potion supplies. Once instruction was over, and they were turned to their classwork; Em decided it was safe to resume their earlier conversation.
As Em worked to muddle snake fangs in his mortar and pestle, he looked up at Viva; operating almost on instinct for this particular brew.
"I'm sure Chica would appreciate the visitor, though she might be a bit apprehensive," he laughed, adding a few more fangs to his mortar. "I used to read stories about Gringotts Curse Breakers, there's even a popular graphic novel you can get at Florish and Blotts! The Adventures of Mary Ann Smith: Curse Breaker!," he announced, goofily. Flexing his arms, and doing his best super hero pose, stopping before the Professor saw him goofing around. "I've read them all, it's quite fascinating. They go into old ruins, and tombs to get long lost treasure. Quite adventurous!"
Em added his powdered fangs to his brass scales, removing only a small amount to get them to balance correctly.
"What do your parents do in the Muggle world? How did they react when you got your letter?" he asked casually, beginning to count porcupine quills.

First Day of Classes
Speech: #4169E1Trying to make a potion with @Emmanuel BourneViva listened intently to the instructions, then turned to Em once the professor set them loose to try and make the potion. "We'll use my cauldron," she announced bossily as she made sure it was ready to go and on the stand. She watched as he began to work, then reached for a few fangs to help him crush them. She giggled as she listened to Em, then watched as he made a silly pose. "That does sound quite exciting," she admitted. Viva thought that could be quite a fun job. Except for the risk of danger, of course.
"Well, I'm a half-blood," she began in answer to his question. "So my mum's a muggle but my dad's a wizard. He gave up living in the magical world when he married my mum, however, so I've lived in the muggle world my whole life." Once the fangs were ready, Viva dumped four measures of them into her cauldron and turned the heat on. "My dad doesn't have a job right now," she admitted quietly. "He was fired from the ministry by his boss when he married a muggle. His boss was a pure-blood, and very prejudiced." She perked up a little. "My mum is the only one supporting the family right now, she is a nurse at a local hospital." She shifted uneasily. Talking about her family and home situation always made her uncomfortable.
