Flying Lessons
It had seemed like a half decent idea at the time; and yet, the only thing she had managed so far was a bruised tail bone and a major hit to her ego. Classes had concluded for the week and with plans to attend to over the weekend, this Friday afternoon had seemed like the only viable option for practicing her flying skills. There was a definite chill in the air despite it being the end of March, but the days were getting longer and Finley had never been one to stay cooped up for long. Plus her mark wasn't exactly up to par with how she expected her academics to be. Hovering somewhere between a dreadful and troll was embarrassing! Especially since she had previously seen herself as at least a little athletic. Nevertheless, Finley had decided on giving it one more try before she called it quits for the day. After all, there was other coursework that she had to keep up with as well.
Finley held the broom firmly with both hands and threw a leg over it. Even with her feet firmly on the ground, she could feel her heart start to beat a little bit faster. Almost as if she could feel how completely unnatural flying really was. But it was a class, and one she had to take at that, and she determined to at least try her best. Even if that meant heading into a weekend with bruises and sore muscles. After a few deep breaths and a quiet pep talk to herself, she kicked off from the ground and let herself hover a few feet in the air. Against her better judgement, she closed her eyes trying to will the nauseous feeling in her stomach away. The broom started to roll and not having the strength to hold on while upside down, she let go and her back hit the grass as the broom fell beside her. Finley let her head fall back as she decided she was done for the day.
