The spiders crept closer and closer over the sand, like an army of black spots, and in that moment, Isaac found that it didn't matter whether or not it was an illusion. Normal spiders were amazing, but magical or venomous spiders were an absolute nightmare.

Hearing River's words, he stilled himself, sitting down and not moving a single muscle. It took all of his self control to watch the insects clambering over the sand, painfully slowly, eyes glowing like beads in the harsh desert sun. The light beat over his head, and before long, a trickle of sweat dripped down his temple. His uniform felt stiflingly hot.

What happens if they aren't an illusion? he thought. Being bitten was not one of his top ten ways to go, especially not in a strange maze. This was only the first challenge; who knew what lay ahead of them? His mind conjured up images of sprawling vistas, cliffs tall enough to break necks, underwater chasms. Normally, it was soothing to him to imagine impressive landscapes, but now, it made sickness churn in his stomach instead.

"How long do we have to lie here to get out?" he asked River, who seemed to be strangely calm.

You continue to sink, nothing in your possession would help you get out and you would remain stuck in the sand. The spiders would near and very soon, they would be crawling up your arms and torso. You would not feel the tickle of their tiny legs across your skin but rather a cooling sensation like alcohol rubbing into your skin. They were in fact illusions.

Isaac didn’t have to ask twice. Like sand in an hourglass, the ground would open to a hole, three holes actually, one below River one below Isaac and other below Vince. The sand would spiral downwards and swallow them with it.

Vince would land first, onto a slimy and mushy surface. The first thing that would hit her was the stench, a very strong familiar smell... the smell of pumpkin. It was completely dark and Vince would barely be able to stand before the ceiling, the same slimy and mushy surface, would hit her head. If she were to feel around, the walls would have the same texture and this area, wherever it was extremely small. Was it possible that she was inside a gigantic pumpkin? A couple of second later, something hard would fall on her, ouch, Isaac followed by River. There was barely much space in this small dark interior. Should they feel around all they would feel would be the wet flesh of pumpkin and there would be no exit of any sorts. They were trap.

"How long do we have to lie here to get out?", Isaac had asked River, as they sat there in the sand. He seemed quite a bit nervous, if not even scared. I mean, it’s not strange to be scared in a situation like this...
«Well, it can take some time, but eventually, our legs SHOULD start slowly rising...», She stopped talking, and turned to look down at her legs, barely visible over the sand. They had started sinking even faster, it wasn’t even like sinking anymore, it was almost like they were being dragged down.

River’s heart started pounding a bit harder now. She was so sure this wouldn’t happen, she’d read so much about these situations. But then of course... this is Hogwarts... magic probably has a hand in this.
She looked stressed over at Isaac and Vince, they too, were sinking faster, deeper and deeper into the sand. River turned to look for anything to hold on to, but there was nothing within arms reach. She turned back, Where in the world did Vince go? She’d simply dissapeared.

Did she sink through? She looked to Isaac, which confirmed her theory, he had disapeared too, they were all sinking through the sand. All the way, under the sand. «Issac, Vince?!», she called, wondering how far down they went.

Thud! Ouch..., She’d just hit the ground, and something else, «Vince, Isaac! Sorry for using you as pillows..., she said quietly. River took a look around, though, she couldn’t see much, it was dark «Where are we? And what even is that smell?», she asked, and made a face of disgust.

Sorry if I wasn’t supposed to post yet, Vince has been gone for a while though, so I didn’t know whether to continue or not

The swirling sands suddenly began to suck them downwards, and Isaac could feel his heart stopping as the sand rose up his sides, reaching his neck, before swallowing him under. The last glimpses he saw were a flash of River's fiery hair and Vince's widened dark eyes. For a couple of heartbeats, he couldn't breathe and he couldn't see, only feeling the grainy particles of sand between his thrashing fingers. And then, there was nothing. It was as if his body were suspended in a space. They're trying to kill us, he concluded, thoughts feeling far away as panic seized him. His breathing grew shallow.

But it stopped. He fell with a heavy thump, his fall cushioned by something soft. Limbs tangled, he suddenly realized that it was someone he fell on, not something. His heartbeat sped up and his eyes adjusted to the darkness. Looking down, he suddenly recognized Vince, awkwardly crushed beneath him. Embarrassment colored his face, and he tried to move off of her, but a second later, the breath was knocked out of him again as River landed on him. Unfortunately, it smashed him against Vince. Ouch!

"Sorry," he muttered, voice muffled, trying to get free of the pile. Gasping, he finally rolled out from under River, just to note that the air was absolutely gross. It smelled like pie left out overnight, and the ground was slimy. Where were they?

Where in the world had they landed? The fall wasn’t far, and the landing was soft. Not only because River landed on top of both Isaac and Vince, but because the ground was quite mushy. River sat up slowly, making a grimace as her shoulder popped back into its socket. Before she had managed to stand up fully, her head hit the roof. Ugh, I hate small spaces... Actaully, River had been claustophobic her entire life, but hopefully she’d be okay.
The place stunk, it was a familiar smell, like pumpkin? «Ugh, I can’t see a thing in here», she exclaimed, and pulled her wand out of her pocket. She pointed it out into the pitch black darkness and said, «Lumos!», attempting to shine some light on this dark, stinky situation.

not letting this die

While River did handiwork with her wand, Isaac busied himself with exploring exactly where they were. The ceiling was stooped, and breathing in the foul air, he realized that it didn't just smell like pie - it smelled like the most rotten pumpkin pie in existence, or maybe just like a disgusting pumpkin.

Crawling about, he started to test if there were any weak points in the wall, jabbing at it with his hand. His hand came back slimy, covered with tiny hard beads that he chose to believe were seeds. The wall felt more solid than it seemed, and despite the mushy texture, didn't crumple when he applied force. Okay then, the next measure.

Taking his wand out, he stabbed it into the wall of the pumpkin like a pin, twisting it deeper and deeper in. There was so much resistance that he eventually found himself pushing at it with all of his might, desperately trying to puncture the squelchy wall. It wasn't as if he had any useful magic to use.

This is gross. he couldn't help but think as the odor assaulted his nose even more strongly. What kind of torture was this? A part of him would rather being with the spiders again than being trapped in a stupid pumpkin, only armed with a flimsy piece of wood to get the group out with.

Perhaps the impact of two falling on her was too much for the eleven year old to handle. Vince would remain lying motionless under the two.

River would pull Ou her wand and attempt lumos (D20+8=13) her wand but it would only flicker slightly with white light before dimming, leaving them in the dark again.

Isaac on the other hand would attempt to peice the walls of pumpkin with his wand. However, he would find that the wand would be stuck, refusing to come out of the disgusting pumpkin flesh.

Exhaling, Isaac finally stopped forcing the wand into the fleshy wall. With a sigh, he shook off his grimy hands, before trying to yank his wand out.

It's useless. If only there was a spell to break things open.

Applying pressure around the handle, he tried to pull it out. But troublingly enough, he couldn't. Isaac blinked at the wall in shock before realization dawned on his face.

It's stuck.

Gritting his teeth, he tried to pull at it even harder, but to no avail. The stubborn maple-wood handle remained wedged in the pumpkin flesh, leaving him wandless and fuming. What kind of fun maze was this? It was stupid of him to think that using his wand like that was a good idea in the first place; especially considering that it was a 'magic' world where normal rules didn't apply.

In disappointment, he checked to see if River had any luck. A brief glow shone around her wand before it sputtered out, leaving the two in pure darkness. And unfortunately, Vince was still lying there, concussed from their fall.

Isaac was no quitter. But even he could feel frustration raging inside of him. How could this happen? They were wizards for goodness sake! There had to be a way out of this. Sitting down and leaning his back against the wall, he struggled to think.

" Okay, so we're in a giant pumpkin. The walls are all around us. You can't break the walls with a wand. Lumos isn't working..."

In impatience, he got to his feet just to feel his head slam painfully on the wall. With his hands, he felt the upper wall, pushing up on it. Magic was absolute garbage, so he had to try something. Maybe if he put enough pressure on the top, it would work?

This was not what I expected when I signed up for this, River thought to herself. A pumpkin, Seriously? And no way to get out either, as far as her eyes could see.
She watched closely as her wand lit up slightly, but abruptly went dark, even before she had time to have a good look at their situation. River sighed, and turned to look at Vince, she was laying there, on the gross slimy, stinky floor, apparently made out of pumpkin flesh.
I hope she’s alright...

A confused expression made it to River’s face, as she heard, what sounded like, something stabbing the walls of the room. What is Isaac doing?
" Okay, so we're in a giant pumpkin. The walls are all around us. You can't break the walls with a wand. Lumos isn't working...", she heard him say, from the darkness surrounding them.

«Right.... I mean, what are we supposed to do then? Nothing seems to be of any help», she answered him, feeling quite lost.
«Perhaps we should just set the whole thing on fire then?», she asked, with a quite sarcastic undertone in her voice.
River walked over to the wall, and kicked it, not too hard, in a thoughtful manner.
«I don’t think the knockback jinx is a good bet either. It could be dangerous in such an enclosed area...», she said slowly, continuing to kick the stupid wall of pumpkin.

Isaac would punch the wall (D20+4=10). Instead of creating a hole, the pumpkin bits and pieces would splatter on him, River and Vince. River on the other hand, would kick at the pumpkin, (D20+2=5) it would not do much but dirty her shoes with pumpkin. They were stuck.
