Sarah Speaking

It was a long day of classes. Sarah loved her classes, but sometimes they took up to much of her free time! After dinner in the great hall, Sarah spent two whole hours in the Hufflepuff common room working on her Charms and Transfiguration homework. It was still early in the evening though, so Sarah decided to take a walk on the grounds. It was a beautiful sunset outside. There was a little chatter of other students on the grounds. They were walking around, some were studying, some were just sitting on the grounds talking.

Sarah wished she had a friend to chat with. But she didn't. Sarah walked around the grounds for a bit until something caught her eye.

What is that?

Sarah walked over to the field where there was something circular sitting on the ground. It had hexagons all over it and some spots were black. Sarah picked it up to get a better look at it. Then she remembered.

It's a baseball! Wait, no... A soccer ball!

Sarah had never seen a soccer before. She was wizard born and grew up in the wizarding world. But now that she was at Hogwarts, there were muggle born students who must have brought a soccer ball. Sarah kicked the soccer ball across the field.

I don't think I can play this by myself.

She looked around hoping that someone would come and play soccer with her.

Mia was going for a run around hogwarts when she saw a girl standing in the middle of the feild outside with a soccer ball in her hands. She was never the best a soccer but she did play when she was younger. She jogged over to the girl and stared at the ball. A thousand thoughts ran through her head as she went over. It had been a while science I played. Did I still know how? She got to the feild and stopped, still running in place her breath steady. "Do you mind if I give it a shot" she asked as she put her hair up to play. The girl handed over the ball and Mia took it with her feet and started to dribble. She gave it a few good kicks and then she noticed what was missing. She looked up and saw a few sticks that might work. She grabbed a handful, and walked to the far end of the feild. She tryed to put a stick in the ground but it snaped. She tried a few more times before she found the perfect sticks and she put them a few feet apart. She jogged back to the middle of the feild to admire her handy work. She had made her own soccer goal. She took the ball again and dribbled it around a bit then with a well aimed shot she hit it into the goal. "SCORE!" She screamed and jumped but as soon as she remembered the girl was there she stopped.

After a long day of studying, Alice has had enough. As the end of the year approaches, many of the students at Hogwarts have been spending an increasing amount of time with their noses buried in the books, and she's no exception. If she has to even think of a pixie, or an imp, or a doxy, or whatever else for the rest of her life, it'll be too soon.

In an effort to relax and calm her blossoming headache behind her eyes, she decides that perhaps a walk on the castle grounds is in order. The grass feels nice, even with her shoes providing a buffer between it and her feet, and the breeze soothes her sore head and eyes.

It's strange, but since moving to live with her dad in a muggle town, a lot of things have become normal for her when she's at home, but those same things which usually seem so normal seem strangely out of place at Hogwarts. For example, she expects to see people playing wizard's chess, but the sight of people playing mundane muggle chess is an oddity.

Today, another such strangely normal sight greets her as she sees a girl kicking a muggle football. It's not a quaffle, there's no flying to be done. It's a simple, normal muggle football. After one kick, the girl seems to hesitate, looking around the field. She's either looking for the owner of the ball, or a partner to join, Alice surmises.

She doesn't wait long as another girl approaches and sets up a makeshift goal, scoring a few shots and masterfully dribbling the ball.

Hesitating only for a few seconds, Alice can't fight the urge for long. She takes her robe off and folds it neatly, placing it softly on the grass and jogging over to the field.

"Hello," she says with a smile. "Don't suppose you've room for one more? I don't know the rules or anything, but I can kick with the best of them. I think."

She smiles with her hands clasped behind her back as she watches the girls with the football.

Mia had scored and cheered but then she stopped. She had heard a voice behind her ask a question. She whirled around to see a girl who was folding up her robes neatly and placing them on the grass. She then came over and said "Don't suppose you've room for one more? I don't know the rules or anything, but I can kick with the best of them. I think." Mia smiled, she would love to have more people to play with. It had been a while since she played but she still had it. She then looked at her own clock that was now covered with mud and grass stains. She gasped and pulled it off looking at it. How was she going to get these stains out. She sighed, shook her head, and played it on the grass nexed to the other girls robes and stood back up. She stuck out her hand and said "The name's Mia and I would be delighted if you would join us!" She shook the girls hand and went to the ball calling over her shoulder as she walked. "The rule are pretty strait forward, just don't tuck the ball with your hands unless your the goalie, and hit the ball in-between those two sicks."

They weren't sure where they were going as they wondered around the campus. The school was so big and the people all seemed... distant. It wasn't that they weren't wearing their gasses (they were), but the hugeness of it made everything seem so empty. They needed something to get their mind off it. Rather than doing homework, Sunny decided why not join the other kids doing stuff. Could be fun, right?

"Hey! Are y'all playing soccer?" Sunny shouted, yelling across the grounds towards the girls who were playing. Soccer was never their best sport. Despite it playing late nights on their television back in Brooklyn, they never seemed to get a hang of it. Neither did their mom placing them in an all-girls soccer camp when they were little. Not fun. But still, they wanted to try. With all the weirdness of this school, they wanted to go back to something normal for once- something homey.

Sunny stopped in the middle of the grass, tying up their hair in a ponytail. "Wait you guys have this here? I'm New York we call this 'soccer,' but uh here I think it's 'American football' right? Haha weird..." They rubbed their shoes in the grass a bit before saying, "Sorry, uh can I play?"

Mia looked up again from her game of soccer as another person came along. "Wait you guys have this here? I'm New York we call this 'soccer,' but uh here I think it's 'American football' right? Haha weird..." They rubbed their shoes in the grass a bit before saying, "Sorry, uh can I play?" Mia looked at them. She nodded and said "Sure you can join us, the more the merrier" She smiled and kicked her the ball. "Also I call it soccer too" She tightened her pony-tail and got ready to play. She was surprised so many people showed up to play this simple game of soccer insted of wizard chess, or gobstones or something. Sunny kicked the ball back and Mia took it with ease and kicked it around a bit and kicked it to the goal. "Hmm... I think we need some goalies. Who wants to be the goalie?" The truth was that Mia loves to pllay goailie but she didn't want it to be too hard for the others to score any points and it would be easy to block. She went over to the sticks and put her hand up to her eyes and then started spreding the two sticks wider.

"Oh cool!" Sunny cried out a bit too loud, "Where are you from? I know there's so many people from like everywhere! I've only just moved to Ireland a year ago. And now I'm here!" They kicked the ball from side to side a bit then suddenly sped off running. HAHA! They weren't so good at this game, but they wanted to show off their skills to these other girls.

"Are you guys from wizarding families? Are they really common here? Back in Brooklyn, I don't think we had any." They yelled as they were running towards the goal. "Well there was this one old guy that I thought was a wizard. He looked like Gandalf... like from Lord of the Rings with a beard and a cane and everything! That movie was my dad's favorite."

"I guess wizards aren't like that here, aren't they?" The ball went into the goal as Sunny kicked it, "¡Gol! "

They panted heavily after running so fast, looking back at their newfound companions. Sunny did a little stretch and then sat down on the grassy field. It was quite nice just to take in the surrounding. Their thoughts raced they tried to observe the other girls and worried about what they were thinking. But in the meantime, Sunny sat there in the grass, staring up at the clouds. This place was no place like home.
