takes place in early december 2023
Rolling over in her bed, wrapping herself tighter against her fuzzy blue blanket, Charlie sighed in her sleep. Floating through the space of her busy mind, Charlie's mind unconsciously went down a path. Awake, Charlie would never ever even think about choosing to fall down that rabbit hole, but lately she had been having the same dream over, and over again. It was almost a sign, but she was more stubborn than most and refused to accept that. What was the dream, her father. And his family.

The dream started off as it had in real life Charlie entering the big heavy, creaking double doors at the front of the house, suitcase in hand, then her father immediately circling her and asking the dumbest questions ever, barely leaving room for Charlie to even breathe. Her father's family would slowly join him, interrogating her like she was a mass muderer captured by the local police. The faces would fill the dark, dreamy portions of her mind. But this night something was off. Something was lighter, more illuminated. The faces of the familiar nightmare continued to come closer and closer into her beloved personal space, but then, a flash of a furry feline jumped out and attacked her father. A mental smile jumped on to Charlie's face as Zara scared away her father and leaped on to her shoulder, nuzzling Charlies face.

When Charlie awoke in the morning Zara was curled in to a small gap between Charlie's leg and the wall, softly purring. As the nights went on, she never had the dream as a nightmare, but as an overcoming of a small milestone.
