EmmaLee's days were getting so full. Homework, Cello practice, Dueling. It was a wonder she had time for anything else. Thankfully, most of her classes came easily to her and practicing cello was mostly about not getting rusty, practicing techniques she knew as well as walking, learning new songs, and exploring new techniques. Dueling was another thing.
Now, she liked dueling. Loved it. Really. She wished that she had been able to join the team much sooner so she could have been doing it longer. The whole experience was thrilling. She didn't like at all how fluctuating the Hufflepuff team was. People dropping it on a whim and causing the teams to shift and change once she had gotten the groove of a new team. The other house teams didn't seem to change nearly as much as Hufflepuff. What did that say for Hufflepuff loyalty?
Anywho, there was nothing to be done about it. Not by EmmaLee, at least. She just needed to go with the flow a little better. Getting a new team wasn't the end of the world or the end of dueling. The second stage had gone well for her new team, although she had wished it wasn't as evenly matched to be honest. She had lasted longer on her own this time before Emma Wynn had chosen to heal her and so she hadn't lasted longer in the over all match. She had thrown some solid spells. It had gone well, despite her misgivings about her change of team. She just needed to remember that she knew all of team Hufflepuff now and all of them would make good teammates. The were a good team. Changing around a little who exactly dueled with whom wasn't that big of a deal.
EmmaLee shook the thoughts out of her head and sighed as she pushed the dueling club door open. Practice, practice, practice. She knew from all sorts of situations that only practice was going to make her better. Better at taking a hit, better at casting, better at dodging, better at aiming. Hopefully there was someone already there to spar with, she had found those practices to be the most rewarding, but if their wasn't, casting practice would do just as well. She needed to get better at enunciation. It hadn't messed her up too much yet, but she couldn't help but feel as if one day she was going to get tongue tied and back fire again.
Walking in an looking around she saw not a soul, maybe everyone was enjoying the warming weather. Oh well. Enunciation it would be. She pulled out her long, white wand from the black and blue holster at her hip and levitated a practice dummy to the middle of the practice piste. Walking up onto it as well and taking her place, she took a calming breath and tried to focus on the dueling spells she knew.
She tired to treat it almost like cello practice. Check the tune, bow skills, finger exercises, scales, songs. Practice had a rhythm that created a perfect song at the end of hours of dedicated practice. Anything could be perfected with practice, making the movements second nature was key.
So she began. Going through each spell she knew in turn. Bullarum Immortalem, Mucus ad Nauseam, Tarantallegra, Incendio, Extinguo, Verdimillious, Flipendo, Wingardium Leviosa, Fumos, Steleus, Spongify, Rictusempra. Then again and again.

It was March 2 and Lily was heading to the duelling club. It had been a couple weeks since she was in there duelling against the crazy Gryffindor. Argahlon Vexius who tried to stab her with his wand that the dumbass broke in half. Like seriously you need your wand. Why break it in half just to attack a girl when you have magic. With all his talk about mudbloods, amd tainted blood , she felt that was definitely a muggle move. What a stuck up prick.
As of right niw she walked in to practice. She was a new duellist so she was quite excited to practice with someone. A duel that isn't to deal with a fight from earlier that day. Indeed she had told Lorcan about it and to say he was a little....lets say amused about the outcome of the duel she didn't want it to happen again. Cause next time Raizel Voltrouz won't be there.
There was no one in the room except for one pale-haired and pale-skinned girl practicing. Lily approached and watched from a distance as she performed the spells. Lily stood there for a bit before clearing her throat softly and stepping forward.

EmmaLee was startled out of her concentration, again, by a student's throat clearing. Was it a good or maybe a bad thing that she was always so in her own head lately that she was completely unaware of her surroundings. The focus was probably a good thing for her practice and grades, maybe not so good for things like, knowing how much time had passed and avoiding getting surprised by other students. It seemed like everyone was catching her off guard when she was alone.
Not that she minded other students interrupting. In fact, she probably welcomed anyone's intrusion upon her time more than most. She'd spent a lot more of her first year alone than she had ever wanted and was glad that she had managed to make a few more real connections this year. It helped push back the intrusive thoughts that she really belonged at Ilvermorny, where making friends wasn't so hard.
She turned from the practice dummy and towards the door where stood a familiar, red-haired, Gryffindor. "Ah. 'Ello, Lily." She said, her look of confusion turning into her bright, friendly smile. Lily was one of the girls she had dueled in her first match and she also knew Lily from their second year classes together. As far as EmmaLee knew, she was a nice girl, but they hadn't interacted too much outside of duelist and same-year acquaintanceship.
"Are you 'ere to practice as well?" She asked with a nod towards the practice dummy.

Lily smiled at the French girl and gave her a slight inclination of her head. "Yes I did come here to practice but if I am interrupting anything I will go." Lily said softly as she looked at the pale haired girl. She knew her from the Hufflepuff duelling team; the two had competed against one another. EmmaLee's team had won she believed. That had been one of Lily's first duels and she had not at all been paying attention. Which caused her to be kicked off the team. At least she was back on now. She really needed to practice to get better at it. After all she couldn't afford getting kicked off again. Not now and not ever again. She needed to get everything mentally, emotionally, and physically ready for her up coming stage. After all she wanted to win this time especially since her Gryffindor team kept looking at consecutive looses.
Lily looked at the dummy and back at EmmaLee. "Why don't we practice together by duelling against each other? It might be better practice." Lily suggested. She waited for EmmaLee's answer and looked around the room. No one was there. Just her and the second year Hufflepuff.

EmmaLee nodded at Lilly's suggestion and levitated the dummy back to its position with the others. "I agree. A duel would be a much better way to practice." She said with a smile. She headed over to one side of the piste to begin.
Especially since she practiced every day, most by herself, EmmaLee always enjoyed when others came in and wanted to practice with her. As useful as it was to practice casting, it was always a lot more of an effective practice to do it with another person who could dodge and aim spells at her. She always liked it for the chance to practice a range of spells and how they would work in an actual duel without the consequence of losing an official match.
Something EmmaLee really loved about dueling was the strategy of it. Broom Racing seemed to be a lot of quick decisions, which she wouldn't have minded, but it wasn't as calculating as dueling. In dueling, she could analyze her opponent: their house, their personality, their previous matches, to glean a pretty good understanding of what spells they would cast. There were patterns to people's decisions that she could use in making her own decisions.
That was the thrill of dueling. When she read and guessed a person rightly and made a decision that made their own move their downfall, or just made her move a better one because she knew what they would do and was ready against it.
Players have agreed to a practice duel where each spells hit or miss will be determined via Discord. A miss will be rolled as a spell fail or a miss.
No abilities will be used. Damage will be calculated normally until players reach under 10%.Round 1:

Lily smiled at EmmaLee and nodded, getting her wand out and stepping up across feom her on the piste. She remembered the last time she had been on here, dueling against psychotic and crazy Gryffindor, Argahlon Vexius. Lily raised her wand and cast Incendio. EmmaLee had cast Rictumsempra, to which Lily dodged with a small smirk.
However, EmmaLee had also dodged her incendio amd Lily gritted her teeth before raising her wand to cast another spell.
This was turning out terribly already. Both miss, both dodge. Lily's duel with Argahlon had been like this and it was not good. Even though she had won. But only because he had snapped his damn wand in half and tried to kill her. That would probably always be in her memory for the rest of her life. He was still at school but it was goimg around the school that he woyld be leaving. Good. Good riddance to that idiot. No one will miss him...except his girlfriend of course.
Lily smiled at the blonde haired girl and raised her wand getting ready to cast another spell that she hoped to god will hit its actual target, instead of the wall or a random piece of furniture.

EmmaLee shot her spell and quickly rolled out of the way as Lily's blast of fire came at her. By now she should have guessed that the Gryffindor girl would start off with incendio. Not all of those in the same house were the same, obviously, so it was important to know some things about each individual you were up against but each house tended to attract certain people with certain personalities that made certain moves more likely than others. People tended to follow patterns and with enough observation, it was possible to read those patterns like a map.
The French girl stood up from the roll and pushed her white braid over shoulder as she turned back towards Lily. Smiling widely at the girl as she readied her wand again.
"Good shot, but I'm a bit quicker than that." She said with a wink and a chuckle. What EmmaLee knew of Lily was that she was a typical Gryffindor: brave, energetic, irreverent, and never one to back down from anything placed before her, but she was also intelligent with a mind to think ahead for the most part, reckless at times, and talented. This was looking to be a fun match.

Lily raised an eyebrow as EmmaLee said she was faster with a wink. That was...probably true. Lily quickly cast Obscuro and smioed as it hit.
EmmaLee cast Rictumsempra and Lily was unfortunate enough to get hit. She was in a round of giggles, how great. Not. Lily struggled to control her laughter as she stood up chuckling. Damn it this Hufflepuff is good. The Gryffindor took deep breaths to try and get her breath back the laughing had taking. Lily steadyed herself, still giggling, and raised her wand to cast her next spell. The one she was about to use was not comfortable but this was a duel and no being nice in a game. No matter how much you like your opponent, or if your opponent and you are friends. It's a competition and not a game you let your friends win out of some sort of chivalry. As much as Lily loved her friends she would not let them win. She woukd fight till the end even if there was no way in hell she would win. Lily steadied herself again from laughing so hard and got ready to cast her next spell. Lily gave EmmaLee an apologetic smile.

EmmaLee brandished her wand and called "Rictusempra!" once more, this time hitting Lily square in the chest and sending her down into a fit of giggles.
She really was fond of rictusempra. Rictusempra packed a good punch and had the added bonus of getting to watch her opponent struggle with laughter for a few rounds. She liked it much more than the dancing curse even. It was tempting not to make it a signature move, but again, that would mess with strategy. Don't be predictable. Don't be any kind of typical anything: Hufflepuff, second year, girl.
As her own spell left her wand and hit Lily, EmmaLee was also hit with Lily's spell. Her vision went dark and her hair shifted as a blindfold appeared over her eyes. A half second of panic washed over her until she remembered that obscuro was a spell as well. Incidentally, this spell was one that she didn't even have to waste a spell on. She just had to take the thing off.
Reaching behind with one hand and keeping her wand firm in the other, she tried to pull at the knot tied the blindfold to her face... with no luck. She supposed that a conjured blindfold would obviously not be that easy to remove.
She took a deep breath and stood still for a moment. Lily's next spell would come soon and she needed to at least try and dodge it if she was blindfolded. She could work on the knot in between. EmmaLee had explored more than a few dark caves in her youth in France to know how to navigate blind, though it was always harder than seeing. She tried to use her other senses to detect Lily across the pitch: the sound of shuffling feet, the shift in the air as another being moved around the room, the rustle of cloth as Lily raised her wand arm. She raised her own wand in the direction she thought Lily to be and readied her next spell.

Lily allowed herself to smirk as her blindfolding spell hit its mark and EmmaLee no longer had any vision. Lily watched as EmmaLee tried to get the blindfold off, but with no luck. The Hufflepuff cast Flipendo at Lily. Lily stepped to the side the spell barely hitting her. Lily was still in a fit of giggles unfortunately but the spell was wearing off. Lily went through her repertoire of duelling spells as she got ready to cast her current one. "Mucus ad Nauseam!" Lily muttered under her breath so EmmaLee didn't hear. Lily's spell work worked for her as the girl was hit with the Curse of the Bogies. Lily adjusted her stance a little as she picked her next spell. This one would hurt, as it had been cast on Lily once before and she knew how much it hurt. Lily had hated that spell but it was quite useful at times like these. This was actually her first time using it to be completely honest. So hopefully she was a natural and was able to cast this spell. Lily raised her wand and got ready to cast the spell, looking at EmmaLee apologetically even if she couldn't see it.
