It was spring. The temperature was already warm. The flowers were in bloom. Some animals were already engaging in their usual activities after a long hibernation. A lad was seen under a tree at the Great Lake with an open cage clinging to a branch of a shorter tree. He took out his owl from its cage and let it fly. "Don't fly too far. I'll wait here as always," he said to the owl. Then it flew away.
Zach decided to sit under the same tree. He took his satchel and rummaged, looking for something, his typewriter, Tyty. The cyan typewriter was a gift from his mother for his graduation to the second year. He put the typewriter on his lap and prepared a paper on that writing device. However, he didn't start writing yet. His hands were restless.
"Is it okay to not go home?" Zach mumbled. It was his first time making this decision. He usually went home during the holidays. But this Easter Holiday, Zach decided to stay at school. Zach didn't know why he decided to do that. He just felt he didn't want to go home. However, he felt bad for not going home. His mind was full of thoughts about how his mother would feel if she read the letter.
Stressing over it, Zach put Tyty beside him. He looked at the lake and let his mind wander wherever it would wander.

Date : March 22nd, 2024 Color code : Written|Thought|Said I have to train myself more. That's what Sere has had in her mind since becoming one of the dueling rosters. The last Winter Games is enough to validate that she is indeed an ambitious-bookish type who's also weak and boring. "How could you unconsious after went through only half of the game! So weak!" Sere grumbled while trying to breathe in and out regularly so that she isn't out of breath. Yeah, she's just trying... because in reality, this girl is now already out of breath.
When she decided that she would train herself more, it doesn't only do on her dueling ability, but also on her stamina, and Sere once read that one of the best ways to increase stamina is by jogging. But it is not an easy matter for a beginner who was never exercised. "Oh my! Hhh... Gimme a break..." She said it because her heartbeat is intended to break through her chest at this moment.
Sere stopped her exercise and bent down while holding her knees. Sweat soaked the black t-shirt and gray training she was wearing. She looked up and talking to herself once more, "Whoa... At least I got a beautiful view."
Sere wiped her sweat while looking at the Great Lake which reflected the gleam of sunlight in the late afternoon. Spring has come. Sere could see the grasses and leaves starting to turn green, the lake water has completely melted, and... Oh! There's an owl flying!
Sere realized that the owl flew away from someone she recognized. The boy who was sitting and -what is he doing actually?- under one of the tree. The girl took steps closer the boy and greetings, "Zach! Hi!" Sere waved her hand, "How've you been? Doing good?" She looked at the cyan typewriter on Zach's lap, "Writing, huh?"

Lost in thought, Zach didn't realise that there was someone beside him. He looked at that person. "Uh..." He paused for some moments to recognize the person that greeted him since his mind was still hazy with mixed thoughts. "Hi!" He greeted back in surprise. It was Sere Nade, a first-year from Gryffindor. He positioned himself. "I'm good," he smiled at the lioness softly. He looked at the outfit of the lass and wondered if she was running. "Yeah, I want to write a letter but still have no idea what to write," he answered.
"How are you doing? Judging from your outfit, are you running?" he asked. It made him remember his grandpa at Swanton Morley. He told him that he was weak and needed more exercise. Zach immediately pushed that memory far from his mind. "You can sit here for some moments if you want. The scenery was good at this moment." The lad pointed his hand at the lake and its waves.
"You're part of Gryffindor's duelling team now. How was your first official duel experience?" He asked. Zach actually didn't expect her to join the duelling team since she didn't show any interest in duelling. Well, it was just in his thoughts since Zach didn't meet her every day. He still knew a little about this Sere girl.

Date : March 22nd, 2024 Color code : Written|Thought|Said "Letter to your parents? I see." Sere nodded in understanding. The girl cleverly hid her bitterness when she heard the parents-thingy. Sere didn't write anything to her parents back then when she first came here, and now this girl decided not to write anything to her parents for a while. She is sure of the reply she will receive if she started writing: another order to stop fooling around and leave Hogwarts as soon as possible.
"Yeah, I feel like my stamina is kinda dropping lately..." Sere sat down next to Zach and take a full gaze of the Great Lake in the late afternoon, "So I decided to go for a run. I intended to jog actually, but I eventually run." This girl straightened her legs, "You're right. With this beautiful scenery, another season has come."
Sere turned towards the Ravenclaw boy, "You know that?" Sere brought her face closer and whispered, "How much do you know about me in the duelling team? Do you know that I only managed to complete half of the match and passed out bec--" In a second, Sere realized that she was exposing herself. She cleared her throat and looked away, "Nothing. Forget it."
She thinks for a moment, "I don't know how it exactly feels right now. It just feels... right?... I think." Sere folded her arms, "Actually, I joined duelling because... umm... an ambition that suddenly popped from inside myself, and this is beyond my ambition for academic things..." Sere returned her gaze back towards the lake, "Protecting another life." The girl immediately shrugged her shoulders, "It sounds so abstract. I haven't thought about the details at the moment either."
Sere replied to Zach's question, "I know you are in the duelling too. Tell me, do you enjoy it?" Sere saw the same owl still flying in front of her, "That owl flies so freely. What kind of owl do you think it is? It wouldn't possibly come here in a sudden... Would it?"

Zach listened. Sere was talking about her stamina. The memory of his grandfather saying that he was weak once again comes up. It was a very annoying memory. Who in this world likes to be called weak? Zach still held a grudge towards his grandpa's comment about him. But again, he pushed that negativity away. He nodded, agreeing with Sere's saying that the scenery was beautiful.
He once again nodded. Zach indeed knew about Sere becoming an official duelist from Gryffindor. She talked about how she passed out in the half of the match before she stopped in the middle of her talk. Zach cleared his throat and said, "Of course, I know that. I've seen your name in the match lists," and chuckled. "I think it's normal for duellist to become unconscious. My first two matches left me unconscious," the lad giggled. He rested his head towards the tree behind him.
Zach still listened to Sere and her reason for joining duelling. Her reason was far better than him. It was selfless. Zach felt a little bit ashamed of his reason join duelling. "I see," he responded. "That's cool how you can think about it. I mean, the protecting part and the ambition. No wonder the Sorting Hat sorted you to Gryffindor," Zach said.
"Do I enjoy duelling? Of course! It's the most magical thing to do. Though, my reason to join it is just... uh... so I can maximize my magical experience here." Zach sat straight again after he felt something on his back. At first, it didn't bother him too much. He thought it was just a branch or small leaves. "He's Zephyr. My owl. It's a barred owl. I let him fly to look for his natural food," he smiled at Sere softly. "He will come back when he's full and happy."
Then he felt that the thing on his back started to crawl. Zach started to panic. "Is there anything on my back? Can you help me remove anything that crawls on my back, please?" He asked.

Date : March 22nd, 2024 Color code : Written|Thought|Said "Oh-uh... So you experienced that too." Sere massaged the back of her neck, "I don't know, for me what happened that day was quite embarrassing." Sere followed Zach, leaned her back against the tree behind them. "I think it will get better once I get used to it." Sere held back her words for a moment before murmuring, "Huh? Used to being unconsious? Ah, I mean used to be a duellist, not the unconsious one."
She was debating with her own thoughts until she only heard vaguely what Zach said about Gryffindor and her ambition. "Thank you, I guess?" Sere raised her eyebrows. "About maximizing magical experience... It is clearly so close to the obligation to keep learning, especially in a world that is so new for me--for us." Sere nodded in satisfaction. She likes someone who's willing to learn.
"Ah, that's your owl? Zephyr? What a unique name." Sere's eyes, which had been following Zephyr's movements, turned to seeing something green, attached to the Ravenclaw boy's back. "I also have a pet. A bunny named Buddy." Sere cupped the insect and showed it to Zach, "A grasshopper... Should've been a good snack for Zephyr." Sere let it go as she continued her story, "Buddy... He will obviously disappear if he is released freely like Zephyr. Buddy loves freedom, too much."
Sere glanced at the typewriter on Zach's lap, "I rarely see someone owning a typewriter nowadays. You have a quite unique taste. Is there any story behind that typewriter?" The lioness looked thoughtful, "Have you decided what to write? If you haven't, maybe I can give you some ideas."

Zach chuckled upon hearing Sere's response. "Yeah, it is indeed embarrassing. I also cried during the duel," Zach chuckled again. He remembered his last duels. Painful, indeed. "Yeah... We will get better if we practice and practice," he smiled. As for her response about obligation, Zach just scratched his head. Zach didn't feel any obligation to learn. He just wanted to have fun with magic. Yes. It was this selfish reason that still made him keep dueling.
"Thank you!" Zach said after he saw the lioness show him the grasshopper. "If he found it, he would definitely eat it," Zach nodded. "You make me want to meet this Buddy boy." He stopped when he realized something, "It's a male bunny, right?"
"This typewriter? My mom gave it to me last year." He positioned himself so Sere could see Tyty clearly. "It was my mom's. But then she gave it to me since she knew that I must feel very bored in school. She isn't wrong," he grinned. "We can't use any electrical devices after all. I called it Tyty," Zach patted his typewriter.
Then he heard her offer to give him an idea about what to write in his letter. "Thank you. I just have to figure out what to say to my mom about me not going home for this Easter Holiday. I always went home when the holiday started," he smiled awkwardly. "And a little bit of encouragement because I'm anxious since I don't know her reaction when she reads my letter." Then the lad let out a sigh. He was back to his problem again. Thank this girl named Sere.

Date : March 22nd, 2024 Color code : Written|Thought|Said Crying? Sounds like someone talking about me. If the fox-eyed boy is not front of her by now, Sere would definitely shake her head vigorously to get rid of the memory that she also shed the unwanted tears in her first duel, but remembering the existence of her interlocutor, Sere tried so hard not to move her head. "Practice... Yeah, that's all we should -and we could- do."
Sere nodded, "Buddy is a boy. I'll introduce him to you someday, and I wanna know more about Zephyr too! Soon, if we get the perfect time."
The girl listened to Zach's story about Tyty -his typewriter- a gift from his mother. It seems Zach likes to give unique names to his belongings. Speaking of the belonging, Zach's mother really had a good idea in giving something to her son. Sere wasn't even think about how useful the thing on Zach's lap would be in this technology-less area of Hogwarts until the boy gave the backstory. "Your mother has a good sense."
Sere widened her eyes, "You're not going home either?" Sere blinked and cleared her throat. She was too excited, to that level until she almost told all her family matters to her new friend. Zach does have a certain calming aura that makes her feel safe to tell many things. "Umm... I'm too lazy to go home. So I decided to stay at Hogwarts during the Easter Holiday."
Sere tried to give advice, "Don't worry. You just have to write it honestly and promise to send a follow-up letter about your Easter Holiday experience at Hogwarts." Sere stood up, preparing herself to run again, "Hearing your story about the typewriter your mother gave you, she must be an understanding person. The important thing is that you're communicate it openly to her, and she will be fine with that."

"That's great," he said softly. He had never seen any bunny in the school. He wondered what it would look like. Is he fluffy? Had cute teeth? Loving carrots? How would he eat his food? Zach could imagine cute things about Buddy. And he also agreed with Sere. The typewriter's colour is pretty. His mom took care of it well and it is still pretty in functional when he gave it to Zach. "Uhuh..." he nodded in agreement.
"Yeah... I'm not going home this Easter Holiday," he replied. Either? He just realized that the girl wasn't going home either. The lad looked at the lass in curiosity, why she wouldn't go home.. Then he chuckled at her reason. "Fair enough. If I remember correctly, the school would hold an event. Perhaps, you're interested in joining the event. Or..." The lad stopped, trying to remember about the school. "Yeah... Many interesting things here. Like practising duelling, for example," he scratched his head.
"I hope so..." he said. Then he looked at the lass who had already stood up. "Thank you anyway." He gave Sere a soft smile. "You're going to continue your run?" Just after he threw the question, the owl flew back with a small rat in its beak. "Ew! Don't bring it here!" Zach shouted. "Wait.... It's not one of the rat pets, is it? Tell me it's not one of them!" Zach's face was doomed. He just hoped that the rat wasn't one of the student's pets.

Date : March 22nd, 2024 Color code : Written|Thought|Said Sere warmed back up by rotating her ankles alternately, "Ah, looks like I have to find out about that event." She bended her body to the right and left side, "Yeah, practicing on duel sounds like a good idea."
She also turned her back, again to the left and right side, and loosened up her shoulders before nodding, "I will continue my run. It's already pretty late. I still need some times to clean myself up before dinner." The Gryffindor girl saw a barred owl swooping from a distance, carrying its late-afternoon snack. Zach's words made Sere blinked several times. He is right, it's gonna be a big problem if that is someone's pet... but... isn't it normal based on the law of nature? If so, that's just the rat owner's fault to let the pet run away! Please don't let Zephyr lost its snack! The thought emerged in Sere's apathetic-academic mind.
"Alright, then. I'll go first." Sere waved a goodbye. Before started back her running, she said, "Make sure that you also finish writing the letter and go back into the castle before it's getting darker. Goodluck!" The girl focusing again on her original intention of increasing her stamina. It feels easier running after that fifteen minutes break. Just like what people say : taking one small step to rest before getting back and taking another big steps towards the goal.
