The Figuring of Transfiguration
Of all the classes she had on her timetable, Emily found Transfiguration the most baffling. She flicked through the textbook, curious on what a typical curriculum looked like for such a class.
"Snail to teapot... Glass to sand…"? She struggled to see the use for such objects, especially if it involved the twisting and shaping of poor little critters and animals at times.
But she had no time to complain when everyone else walked into the room for the start of the lesson. It was at this point that Emily had forgotten she'd arrived a bit too early, being the punctual and somewhat eager student she is.
She still had yet to make a friend in her classes, something that was starting to bug her a little. She'd read countless books about friendships and making new companions, though it was all a bit hard to put into practice given her shy and withdrawn nature. All of a sudden, Transfiguration piqued her interest; if only there was a practical way to turn introversion into friendship.

The Figuring of Transfiguration
A week had passed and Emily had devoted time to revising all she had been learning so far about Transfiguration, and despite learning so much, all of which she found interesting... none of it seemed to be sticking in her head.
She groaned in frustration while reading a book on the principles of Transfiguration. There was so much physics behind it all that it was starting to turn her brain into mush. She was clever and got near top grades in each of her classes, but it would be plain obvious to anyone by now that Transfiguration was not her strong suit, not with how much physics was involved. And she hated physics, simply because she couldn't wrap her head around it. Simply. Hated. It.
She stood outside the classroom door, ingesting every word in her textbook and flicking through the pages to see if there was something she missed to help it all click together, but there was no luck. She was ready to tear the book in her hands into pieces. She'd never felt so defeated before, and of something as trivial as a school subject as well... Emily nearly cringed at her behaviour. "Auntie" would probably scold her for being childish if she ever saw her like that.
Emily took a deep breath and put the book away. By this time she had already handed in homework for her Transfiguration classes. For the first time ever, she had her fingers crossed, desperately praying that she'd get good marks when they'd be handed back to her. At this rate, it was her only testament to see if what she knew was actually sticking with her.
