a new... adventure?
Katie was reading for pleasure, in a corner of the library people rarely came into. she really wanted to know what Katniss Everdeen was going to do to get herself out of this one. the heroine was in the arena, and it was getting to the climax. she was hooked on every word. because while katie was a nervous and shy little girl, she LOVED the idea of adventure. the practicality of going on one was scary, but making new friends and saving the world? it sounded like a BLAST. she loved reading books where the characters went on adventures, even though she knew she wouldnt touch one with a ten-foot pole.
"yesssss." she quietly cheered when Katniss finally got rue out of the net, not knowing what was about to come next. she loved rue, she was her favorite girl. small and shy, but still clever enough to make it far. Maybe it was because Katie identified with the district 11 girl, she didnt know. she beamed and fist pumped the air, almost falling over. she almost returned to her book when she met the eyes of a slytherin who she'd caught the attention of, blushing immidiately and quieting. she closed the book, setting it aside and whispering "s-sorry."

a new... adventure?
~ * ~Ruby had been peacefully switching between reading, observing the occupants of the room, and drawing. They were all things that she did regularly – daily, in fact – and she enjoyed them, they could be useful to her, or a combination thereof. No one in here had particularly caught her attention or earned her interest, so (after the initial analyses, calculations, and observations she had done) she had switched to reading and drawing. This wasn't simultaneous, as she would read, then perhaps do a few sketches, then return to her reading.
It was imperative that she read. It was for her own purposes, yes, but she had a love for learning and a deep desire for knowledge. Books were some of the easiest ways to work on this, as they could hold so much information and she could go above and beyond the standard of her classmates that she was limited to during the school day.
Her eyes darted across the page as she read. She was a quick reader – there was no doubt about it – and she remained quite focused while she did it. However, she was then interrupted by a sound. She looked up to see a Ravenclaw going "yesssss" or something along those lines, and fist pumping so vigorously that she almost toppled over. Who was this? What was this reaction in response to?
The Ravenclaw's eyes then met Ruby's own, and for some reason, the girl suddenly seemed embarrassed, stopped reading, and apologized. Ruby now had time to quickly glance at the cover. Ah. It was The Hunger Games, a rather popular Muggle book. So, did the girl like adventure? Ruby was an adventurer herself, often ending up in situations that were a little bit risky. That was by choice, of course. Was this little Ravenclaw girl like her? She didn't exactly seem like the type. In fact, she seemed to have a lack of confidence and be shy.
Was the Ravenclaw the quiet type who shut themselves out from the rest of the world, and forgot to live a little and experience adventures? Ruby had a sneaking suspicion that she was. Well, time to pull another one out of their shell, she thought. This wouldn't be the first time. People generally resisted at first, but if she managed to get them past this phase, then they often realized how fun it could be.
The lyrics to a Muggle song called "The Other Side" from one of their movies started playing in her head, and the barest hint of a smile danced across her lips. She would possibly break out in song to try and get this girl out of her comfort zone, but they were in the Library. Maybe she could drag her into the corridors. She had now made it one of her goals to get this apparently shy girl to have some adventures and take risks, and once Ruby had a goal, she didn't stop until it was reached.
The first step was to reply to the Ravenclaw. “You don't need to apologize, it's quite alright. What's your name?”~ * ~
