Trunk? Loaded. New robes? On. Weather? Sunny.

Aqma stood dumbly on the entrance of the wagon, staring at her two smiling parents, waving goodbye to their only child before she embarks on her new journey. They looked proud as ever and Aqma tried hard to remember the last time she ever saw them embrace each other so happily, all because of her.

"Young lady, you are blocking the way." Aqma's thoughts were interrupted by the conductor's voice. "Please take your seat." The conductor put his hand on her shoulder and gently, but steadily, motioned her to move.

“Oh, right. Sorry.” Aqma mumbled. She took a final glance at her excited parents before heading into the passage between the carriages.

“I should be excited myself…” she thought as she passed through rows of students chatting lively. It looked like everyone else already managed to make friends with each other, except for her. “It’s tough being excited when none of this is what I wanted,” she retorted in her mind, searching for an empty carriage. This was not what she wanted indeed. Going to Hogwarts was not what she wanted. What she hoped for for the entirety of her life was Durmstrang, the school that all of her friends decided to enrol in. Despite all of her protests, her parents insisted on her going to Platform 9 3⁄4 to take the train to the school both of them graduated from. Whilst understanding how important tradition is in her family, Aqma still wished her parents would be more considerate of how hard it would be for her to socialise in a new environment like this, all on her own. After all, making friends is not exactly the skill one learns from growing up in the isolated Scottish mountains.

Luckily, she finally found an empty cabin. She immediately slammed the door behind her to quieten the annoying crowd noise, which seemed to almost mock her for her loneliness. She put her trunk on one of the seats and pulled up the curtain on the window, but immediately regretted it afterwards, as the bright sunshine blinded her. Still, she kept it up and quietly observed all the wizards and witches saying their final goodbyes, and the children awkwardly rushing with their large suitcases.

It was just a couple of minutes before the Express would depart and the train was getting busier by the second, seats being taken away one by one. Aqma crossed her fingers, desperately hoping that no one would decide to sit next to her. A knock on the door shattered all of those hopes.

Emily boarded the train after a heartfelt goodbye from "Auntie." She watched her disappear into the crowd of relatives as students scrambled on board, waving to their families as the train filled up quickly with eager students.

Emily went to find an empty carriage, carefully manoeuvring around other students, both new and returning, as she walked up and down the train for somewhere to sit. She held onto her duffel bag which contained her robes while the rest of her stuff was carried on board beforehand. She gripped it like it was a means of defence, holding onto it as she shyly walked past everyone on the train.

Near the back of the train she finally found an empty carriage and swiftly took a seat. She had her duffel bag nestled on her lap for a bit as she rummaged through it to find a book she had packed for the journey. While the whole prospect of attending Hogwarts was exciting, she was nevertheless nervous. As she passed other students, it really put into perspective what a muggle-born like herself would be like attending a school of magic. She felt left out. An outcast.

She spotted a girl in another empty carriage opposite her own, seemingly in a pensive mood. She debated going over, even as far as knocking on the door, but her own insecurities had her welded to the carriage she already sat down in. She thought best not to interrupt her anyway, not with the thoughtful mood she seemed to be in anyway.

As the train started moving, she occasionally glanced at the girl on the other side of the glass. Emily began reading her book to take her mind off everything, until she heard some commotion outside. A few minutes later, a boy came into her carriage and sat down, politely though shyly asking to sit with her, to which Emily accepted kindly.

As she and the boy talked throughout the train journey, she thought back to the girl who was still alone on the opposite carriage. She felt bad about not doing anything about it, but she hoped everything would work out for her all the same.

Emily and Em had been enjoying the train ride to their new school. Trying different sweets and chocolates from the trolley, telling eachother about their families, hopes for the school year, and nerves they had in going to the castle. It was a well needed comfort, for both of them.

Em snacked on his chocolate, allowing Emily to take some time to read. The train ride was a few hours long, and they needed a moment to rest.

Distracting himself with his charms textbook, he spared a few glances to Emily to make sure he wasn’t missing any indication that she wanted to talk again.

He saw her look towards the girl in the other compartment, sitting by herself. It was just chance Em picked this one, when his bag ripped.

Inferring Emily’s glances, Em closed his book over his finger, and cleared his throat softly.

“We should invite her over, there’s no reason anyone should come to Hogwarts totally alone, don’t you think?” He suggested, standing from his seat, opening their compartment, and locking on the other cabin door.

Em smiled widely at the girl, and waved his hand suggesting she come to join them. He looked kind, and excited to have her join.

Emmanuel had pretty much read Emily's mind. She knew from the start he was going to be the more outgoing of the pair of them. She smiled, nodding in agreement. She loved making friends, so this was no different. If only she had more courage. She felt bad about not asking to sit with her to begin with, but thanks to Emmanuel, she was given the shove she needed. As "Auntie" would remind her, "We're all in this together."

"You're right...! After all, you were kind enough to sit with me," Emily chuckled slightly. She put her book down and tucked it back between the seat and the gap by the wall. She got up and kindly stepped past Emmanuel before taking her bag of apple strips with her. She hoped the girl liked apple... or at the very least, the colour green.

She stepped out of the carriage and stood at the door to the one where the girl, still alone and minding her own business, was sitting behind. Emily took a confident breath. She was unfairly cowardly before due to her own shyness but this time, thanks to Emmanuel's company, she could offer the same companionship to her.

Take two...

She knocked twice on the door before opening it, peeking her head inside. Still a little shy, her voice squeaked a tiny bit, however her face beamed with friendly energy.

"Hi... There's space in our compartment if you want to join us?"
